'Trimmed Down' Founders Day, River Relief Benefit Is This Weekend

ALGONQUIN, IL -- Committee members for the Algonquin Founders’ Days festival are planning a benefit to help raise funds for those who are still recovering from flooding along the Fox River. The River Relief Benefit will be held Sept. 8 through Sept. 10 and will be a "trimmed down version" of the Algonquin Founders' Days Festival. Founders' Days was forced to cancel its festivities this past July due to extreme flooding in downtown Algonquin.

The River Relief Benefit festivities will be held on Harrison Street, north of Route 62, over the course of the three-day festival.

“We’ve tried to find a way to still hold our Festival but add a charitable aspect to it in light of recent events. Algonquin is a community of generous and caring individuals and supportive businesses which we believe will be highlighted during the River Relief Benefit,” said Michael Wasz, social media chairperson for Algonquin Founders’ Days.

More details surrounding the festival will be released in coming weeks via Facebook and the Algonquin Founders' Days website. Due to logistics, there will not be any parade or fireworks, two popular events at Algonquin's Founders' Days

“Thankfully we have been able to keep many of our originally scheduled vendors and performers and several
other events that are less taxing on the manpower that we require from the village, that in recent weeks has been stretched thin.” said Dan Barton, president of the Algonquin Founders’ Days committee.
