THIS IS NO LONGER THE CITY OF ANGELS. The City of Lost Angels doesn’t even do it justice. This is a tomb. The crumbling skyscrapers and empty slabs of concrete haunt the city now.

A faceless evil begins to seep into the streets, darkening Charlie’s world more than she thought possible

The city is now teeming with creatures she thought only existed in nightmares. After the mysterious and intriguing Sky comes to her aid, they team up with the ethereal and elusive Fae, who seem innocent enough….at first.

In an attempt to find the secrets of her heritage, Charlie goes on a treacherous journey of self-discovery. She will put her life on the line to unlock the knowledge her mother kept hidden for a lifetime.

During her quest to find the connections of her birthright, it takes her to the darkest of places, and unexpected emotions threaten everything she thought she knew about herself.

While she fights to keep her soul intact, Charlie will fight creatures of the underworld and endarkened witches. But will love prove to be the greatest danger of all?

Heir to Gold and Ashes is a fiction, horror story loaded with all your (or at least my) favorite creatures: Vampires, Witches, Demons, Fae and other monsters. It also borders on a new world fantasy, horror story, with the new world being a Los Angeles that has been taken over by a host of dark creatures.

The story captured me from the very beginning as Charlotte lost her husband in a car crash that almost took her life, too. As Charlotte recovers, she finds out that she is not who she thought she was. Nor, was her strange life; a life full of questions, with few answers. When Charlotte is attacked, by first a demon and then witches, a mysterious Fae named Sky rescues her and helps prepare her to face the underworld and the creatures in it.

That is all I’ll tell you about the plot because I don’t want to give anything away. What I will tell you is that I am not a fan of fantasy but love a good vampire story. For fantasies, my reviews usually go downhill as I write them. That certainly is not the case with this review. Nor is it because I’m a fan of vampires; although that certainly didn’t hurt.

The reason my review is so high is because of Ashley’s fantastic story and character building. As I said, she captured me from the very beginning and held my attention right up until the last page. (Which, by the way didn’t end the way I wanted. But that’s me and I can’t hold that against her.) Especially when her story was unique and the characters different and original. Also, neither of them wandered into clichés, stolen lines from TV and movies or became completely unbelievable, as so often happens.

If I could, I would take off half a star for her not ending it the way I wanted it to end. But, I can’t and honestly, a lot of horror readers will probably like the end. Thus, my rating stands at a well-deserved 5 stars.

So, if your into Vampires, Fae, Witches and other dark monster like creatures, and want to read a very well written story, add Heir to Gold and Ashes to “your must read list.” It will not disappoint you!

Heir to Gold and Ashes by @AshleyHayAuthor is a wild ride of a book, that keeps you guessing and keeps you intrigued, as the author beautifully lays out plot points and mystery, while pacing the story to perfection. You meet Charlotte, a girl who has gone through a traumatic even that begins on page 1. I won’t spoil it, but WOW it is brutal to read. The author has obvious medical knowledge, and the descriptions are not for the faint of heart. After the incident, Charlotte is chased by demons in her sleep, as well as in real life. Her best friend Jennie is one of the funniest characters I have ever read in print, and she and Charlotte’s friendship really lifts the book when it is already sky high with mystery and allure.

Sky, a mysterious stranger bumps into Charlotte (literally) and he world starts to change in the most insane ways imaginable. The author presents the book in a fashion where it is grounded in reality, but the mystical elements are subtle and therefore they read with even more pop when the come about. Charlotte sees a world on undead, a world human eyes normally never see, and her brutal past of nightmares start to seep their way into her reality amidst finding her own powers. Sky and a host of other phenomenal characters accompany her on her journey, and the author has a deep bag of characters to choose from and all of them work like fine moving machinery.

The ending will leave you wishing for more, but there is a second book. 5 stars and worth a read. Make room for it, but bring a vomit bag, it gets gruesome, but it is a damn fun read.

Those who know me well know that if I find a book interesting I have a hard time putting it down. I finished this book in a day. It has a unique twist on supernatural creatures while also keeping the main basic things people love about those creatures. A dark reading that makes you feel for the characters, but doesn't cross the line to where you don't know if you could continue reading or not. If you like dark, horror, and blood tingling books, this is a book for you to definitely buy and read.

Ashley Hay has created an amazing horror fantasy book with such amazing characters. Heir to Gold and Ashes has just about every awesome fantasy creature you could ask for. Vampires, demons, witches, FAE!!!! I loved the mixture. It wasn't overwhelming but just enough to get your feet wet with each one. Ashley hooked me from the first page and kept my interest through the entire book. There was never a dull moment. As a dark force begins to take over, Charlotte teams up with Sky and discovers that she has abilities that she never knew she had. So many twists and turns took place and I loved it. If you love creepy creatures, dark and mysterious Fae, and all things fantasy, I truly recommend you read Heir to Gold and Ashes!

Now, when does book two come out Ashley?

Addictive and Suspensful. I normally do not read these types of books, but it was recommended to me by a friend, so I decided to give it a try, and I am so happy I did! The story line really hooked me right off the bat and I quickly fell in love with the characters. The writing is so visual it made me feel like I was actually there. Very good book! I would recommend it to anyone that loves paranormal, horror, and fantasy.
