CG Corp Global, known for its instant-noodle brand Wai Wai in India, is looking to expand its presence in the FMCG segment.

The company is in the process of setting up a mega food park in Rajasthan in collaboration with other partners. Its strategy to foray into other segments of the packaged food business will be enabled through backward and forward linkages available at the food park.

Varun Chaudhary, Executive Director, CG Corp Global, said: “We are looking to inaugurate the Greentech Mega Food Park by August-end. This is a ‘farm to fork’ model and we will leverage on these backward and forward linkages to foray into the ready-to-eat segment soon.” The company will initially look to enter the snacks segment, such as bhujias and potato chips.

As the lead promoter, CG Corp Global has invested about ₹150 crore in the Greentech Mega Food Park, located at Roopangarh District in Rajasthan.

Chaudhary said the linkages with farmers, procurement centres and processing facilities will help the company enter segments such as staples and the artisanal cheese segments. Given its location, the mega food park will have access to a variety of raw materials such as cereal grain crops, pulses, oilseed, vegetables, spices and fruits.

The size of company’s FMCG portfolio, which consists of instant-noodle brand Wai Wai, is currently pegged at about ₹750 crore. Last year, the company extended the brand to the QSR segment with Wai Wai City, which is modelled on the noodle bar format.

“We are looking at a turnover of ₹1,000 crore from Wai Wai and Wai Wai City alone. Our future growth though will also be driven through product diversification strategy which will be enabled by the upcoming food park in Rajasthan,” he added.

The company plans to open about 1,500 outlets of Wai Wai City in the next five years, which includes expansion in other countries. “
