With so many places in the world to see, why return to a place you have visited before? Some people travel to the same location trip after trip.  There’s a certain amount of comfort with traveling that way.  You know the lay of the land.  You know how to get where you’re going, and you never are without a restaurant for dinner.   I like to explore and see as many places as we can, but there are some places we return to for just that reason – – you are familiar with your surroundings, you know you will have a great time, and you know you will be able to relax.  With just that thought in mind, we booked another trip to the Four Seasons Nevis.

What makes the resort special?

The island of Nevis has a lot to offer, with the history, the lush terrain, and the friendly people.  The Four Seasons Nevis fits right in.  The low-profile buildings designed with the traditional West Indies architecture are at home in the landscape.

The beauty of the island is preserved here as well.  The golf course respects the traditional elements of the island, from the historic sugar mill to the lush groves of mangoes trees, to the spirited green vervet monkeys who roam across the property.

The landscape is flush with palms, flowers, and other plantings, beautifully maintained.  The Poinciana (Flamboyant) tree, the national tree of the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis, is in full bloom, breaking up the spance of deep green surrounding Nevis peak.

The resort is dedicated to preserving the creatures of its island home.  The Four Seasons Nevis partners with the Sea Turtle Conservancy, dedicated to tracking migration patterns of sea turtles to protect their nests and grow the population. The resort sponsors the satellite tracking of two sea turtles each year to provide data necessary to the conservation effort.

The dining options reflect the wide variety of seafood available, and takes advantage of the bounty of mangoes for which the island is known.

This is not a resort that could be anywhere in the world.  It reflects the island’s comfortable, laid-back, but elegant, sense of style.

The care offered by the resort staff reflects the friendliness of the Nevisian people. The  “Nevisian Spirit” is not just the name of a boat at the dock.  At the Four Seasons Nevis, you know you are on Nevis. Everyone here, from the folks in housekeeping, to the concierge, to the beach attendants serving up sweet treats, embodies that spirit.  That is what makes this island, and this resort, so special.

What has changed in six years?

There have been a few changes since our trip here in 2011.  The transfer from the airport used to be to the cruise ship dock in St. Kitts. From there it was a 45-minute boat ride to Nevis.  With the development of a brand new dock at the south end of St. Kitts, the journey by boat is only 15 to 20 minutes.

To get there, your driver picks you up from the airport and takes you along a winding road with gorgeous views of St. Kitts.  Once you reach the dock, you are greeted with your choice of punch (rum or no rum), and have a chance to relax before boarding the boat to Nevis.

Four Seasons Nevis

The beach at the Four Seasons Nevis was showing some signs of erosion, requiring an extensive beach restoration.  While we were there, we were on one-half of the beach while they worked on the other.  At the end of our trip, we moved to the newly-restored southern beach, while work began on the northern end.

The resort did its best to make the guests comfortable during this construction project, and offered complimentary sunset cruises and snorkeling trips.  We were treated to afternoon goodies, from coconut macaroons to fruit jellies, delivered to our rooms.  As a guest, you hate that some things have to be done on a property while you’re there, but it is not bothersome when the resort makes the effort to give you those extras to make up for the inconvenience.

The resort has added its own beach bar, Castawey Nevis, on the southern end of the beach, a relaxed place to sit back with your toes in the sand.

The resort also added private cabanas which can be rented during the day along the northern beach, allowing guests a bit more privacy.

Also added was a gelato cart, actually “Chillatto” cart, which rolled through the property offering gelato with a variety of flavors.

Sometimes it is nice to return to a place which is familiar, comforting, and easy.  For that, the Four Seasons Nevis was the perfect choice.
