Woman stabbed 13 times by daughter, in critical condition: police

JERSEY CITY -- A Jersey City woman is in critical condition after she was stabbed 13 times by her daughter in her home early this morning, Jersey City police said.

The 53-year-old victim was rushed to Jersey City Medical Center, where doctors determined she was stabbed seven times in the back, twice in the upper chest, three time in the right thigh and once in the right arm, a Jersey City police report said.

Police responded to the Virginia Avenue building at 1:42 a.m. and found the victim and her 30-year-old daughter, Michelle A. Acio, on the blood-soaked floor, police said.

Acio has been charged with attempted murder, domestic violence and weapons charges.

A roommate told police that the 53-year-old victim came running into her bedroom five minutes earlier, yelling for help and that she had been stabbed by her daughter, the police report said.

At the same time, the witness told police, Acio went to the kitchen, grabbed an 8-inch knife and tried to attack her mother again, the police report said. The witness told police she disarmed Acio and threw the knife under the bed, after which the victim called 911.

Police investigating found "large amounts" of blood in the basement apartment where the victim lives. The police investigation also turned up a bloody pair of scissors on the floor near the bed of the first-floor apartment, the police report said.

The police report did not give a motive for the stabbing. Acio was also taken to the JCMC. The 53-year-old remains in critical condition this afternoon, a hospital spokeswoman said.
