I’m warned that Carter Hayes is heartless.

He’s part of the screw crew.
He’ll just use you and leave you.
He’s ruthless and always gets what he wants.

Just look for the trail of broken hearts and dreamy sighs and you’ll find him.

“Hot as sin, Carter.”

I don’t have time to fall head over heels for any guy. Besides, he’d never notice someone like me. I have a three step plan. Get through college. Get a job. Get my sister out of the hell hole I left her in. That’s all I have time for.

That’s until I hear of the betting pool the guys started. Whoever screws me first gets the money. The moment Carter looks at me, I know it’s only because of the bet.

I tell myself our first kiss is only for show.
I hate my heart for falling for his irresistible charm.

For one foolish moment, I actually want him to be my first earth-shattering love. All it takes for me to give in is a little attention, a cocky smile, and a fake promise of a happily-ever-after.

When I’m surrounded by crumpled sheets and the smell of sex, I realize I let him have me for four hundred dollars.

To save what little pride I have left, I pretend it didn’t mean anything, that he’s just one last screw before we all leave college.

I’ve spent the last four years lying to myself. When I’m ready to take the final step of my plan, and save my sister, guess who walks through my front door?

This is a full-length, stand alone, unrequited love/second chance romance.
Note: The book ends at 77% with samples of Predator and Protector.

HEARTLESS by Michelle Horst is a standalone- full length contemporary romance novel Book #1 in the (Enemies To Lovers Series) ~ In this we meet Carter Hayes and Della Truman.

Della Truman is a good girl with a head on her shoulders, studying a Degree in Graphic Design whilst working at Rameses a local diner slash bar to support herself until she finishes up school in six months time and will head back to Saluda the town she left behind for her sister Jamie who is a lot younger than her.

AND

Meet Carter Hayes he’s part of the #ScrewCrew which consists of five hot guys who think they are gods gift to women. Girls want to screw them and guys want to be them.

The #ScrewCrew Team Marcus, Rhett, twin brothers Jaxson and Logan and Carter.

Marcus and Rhett are the ones with the screw lists, they’re the manwhores responsible for our nickname #ScrewCrew. As for the twins, they aren’t huge on dating. A family made up of misfits but each have the others back. As for Carter all his focus is aimed towards finishing his degree so that once he’s graduated he can work in his fathers firm.

He’s not called heartless for nothing, the nic name is in place for a reason. He’s arrogant, ruthless, he will trample on you and not look back, fuck with him and he’ll fuck you back double. But under all that you see glimpses of a vulnerable guy that will do anything for his friends.

Hot as sin on the outside but cold as ice on the inside

Carter and Della are in their final stages of their last semester of college on their last night of college life they ignite between the sheets never to see each other until many years later.

Carter has taken over his father's firm and Della is stuck back in the town that never let her out of it’s grip waitressing in a diner, taking care of her sister. When Carter walks in the door and their gazes collide it’s as though they had never been apart. Slowly they find the feelings that they had back in college had never left them and like a Knight in shining armor he whisks her away from her gruelling life and gives her a job in his company. A slow burn second chance romance proceeds.

We're from opposite worlds. I should've seen it back then, but I was too in love.

Take away the hot cover, the synopsis, the author and we have my guilty pleasure wrapped up in a shiny bow, I love books like this, enemies to lovers, to more, from rags to riches, a second chance romance and I was in my happy place, a slow burn that scorched the pages.

This threw all the feels at me, the angst, the hate then love relationship I too had for Carter in the beginning but then he slowly redeemed himself and I was hooked by his character. I loved the #ScrewCrew and can not wait to read each of their stories.
This surpassed all my expectations, a fairy tale romance that stood the test of time, a love that blossomed and grew even as they were apart and made for a strong foundation once they made their way back to each other again. This author just gets better and better, she can go from dark to light and no matter what she brings us I love wholeheartedly, but this I loved even more because it showed a softer side to her writing abilities.

Don’t go looking at my rating thinking I didn’t like the book. I did. Honestly. Who doesn’t enjoy a good enemies-to-lovers trope? I sure as heck do. And it may be the case that it’s just me and there really was no problem with this story, but I didn’t love this one.

Let’s explore why…

I felt like I was told about the Screw Crew (yeah, that’s really what these men called themselves) and I was supposed to love them despite it all. Despite the fact that they wore their whoring ways as a badge of honor. Despite the fact that girls were clamoring to add themselves to the ‘screw list’. Despite the fact that a wager was placed on who would be able to bed the heroine.

I wasn’t feeling it.

Then I was supposed to fall for and feel for the heroine because she lost her parents at such a tender age and was responsible for the upbringing of her younger sister. But not really because a kind woman named Sue took on that responsibility while she was free to venture to college. And it wasn’t like she was raking in the dough to really help out. And her plan to create a better life for her sister didn’t seem well planned. But I digress. Yes, I felt sympathy. Yes, I tried to be understanding. No, I didn’t really like her. And yes, I felt some type of way.

No. Not really. Call me cold but I really wasn’t moved.

So I’m subjected to the cruel attitude and mean words the hero, Carter, throws at Della while they’re in college. I guess that was supposed to show me how heartless he was. I wasn’t very convinced. Especially because not too long after their many head-to-head, foot-to-mouth arguments, he’d be driving himself crazy thinking about her. Talking about her being under his skin. Hmmm… but your ‘heartless’ though?! It was a real schoolyard ‘pull her hair to show her you like her’ type of deal. I guess it could be considered cute.

Crazy.

Okay, so fast forward four years after Carter and Della have a one-night stand. Kinda predictable. I swear, I could tell you how this story would go without even reading it. However, this predictability is the biggest reason why I enjoyed this book so much. Who could ever turn away from cute kids? Shoot, cute kids can save a story sometimes, I tell ya. I must admit that with this plot device, Carter became immensely appealing and I started to really care for the fellow. Even the little twist towards the end that the author inserted to liven things up was actually a pleasure to read. I only wish that sort of entertainment was felt throughout the story instead of when I’ve basically made it to the finish line.

So, again, I enjoyed the story. I think it was more of a ME thing, not an everyone else thing. So, as always, take my words with a grain of salt. I’ve read other books by this author that I’ve loved (i.e. Predator) and this story in no way is going to stop me from reading future books from her. I think the chakra that drives my reading was off or something.

Dnf at 50%. First of all, Carter is not “heartless” he cries like a baby and i didnt even feel bad for him cuz this book was so stupid for me, rather than sympathising i was frustrated. Della on the other hand was so stupid and the blurb is misleading as hell. The story is nothing as the blurb says, its not “enemies to lovers” or “college romance”. Della and Carter were not even enemies, there was insta love and they were in college for like for 20%. And there is a secret baby. 🙄 it all started when one of the member’s from the “screw-crew” which includes 4-5 popular guys makes a bet that whoever can fuck Della will get $400. But the bet actually never went further cuz Carter put a stop to it. So at the last day of college, Carter and Della fucks and after that she thinks that he fucked her to win the bet. 🤦🏽‍♀️ now i have 100 questions ( or more) regarding that but i ll just ask the main one. .... why the fuck did she have sex with him at the first place if she knew about the bet. AND yes! She did know about the bet from the beginning cuz it took place right IN FRONT OF HER.

Our stupid heroine thought that our hero fucked her cuz of the bet but in reality, everyone forgot about the bet the day it took place cuz as i said earlier, Carter put a stop to it. She leaves and then years later they met, turns out she got preggo and tried to tell Carter but couldnt reach out to him. Another question here is that in this 21st century, who the fuck writes a letter to someone informing that she is his baby momma? 😬 there were so, SO many ways she could have let him know what she was pregnant but rather than that, our stupid, idiot with a pea size brain heroine blamed Carter’s PA who replied to her letter saying never to contact Carter again. Now its not the PA’s fault cuz Carter is a famous business man and tons of ppl send him letter, claiming that he is the father of their child. 🤦🏽‍♀️🤦🏽‍♀️

Della is weak and pathetic, Carter on the other hand is a cry baby. And let me tell you, all this drama and bullshit took place in like 30% -40% of the book. It was so rushed up that i didnt feel any connection between the hero and heroine. They were just horny with the talent exaggerating.

Carter is living up his last few days of college before he has to enter the real world and help his father run the company. Carter meets Della, who is struggling with life. He attempts to fight his attraction to her, but fails.

The story is familiar and has some parts that suck you in, but an editor would have helped with some of the timeline jumps. The book covers about 5 years in less than 200 pages. The author packs a lot in here and therefore the story can use some development in a few areas. A quick example is Jamie. The author attempted to create emotional scenes around her towards the end, but I don’t know her and those sentiments are not going to move me.

It was a quick read and had some good moments.

Gosh...

Hmpf...

I loved previous books by Michelle Horst those were on a darker side, however, and they were powerful in storytelling and emotional intense presentation through characters' development...

So, it pains me to say that this story was just meh for me...and not because it was sweet and romantic "second chance/enemies to lovers" trope BUT because neither the story telling was satisfying nor the characters were deep in characterisation...

Unfortunately, I felt 'nothing' while reading about all the 'fuss'- the primar 'animosity' between the prick hot shot, Carter and a poor driven on morals chick, Della...their 'attraction' was non-existent, for me, so the crude shit he spews towards her had no merit and i really had no fuckin idea why she would give in, and suddenly 'forgives' him regarding the same attraction...

so, to state clear, his actions were pure assholery moves to start with and she was a let down in giving in so soon to his advances after the said shit, i mean really?!...and that was a minus in my book!

Secondly, the somewhat unnecessary immature drama along with the pacing of the story and the unraveling action and events was just too fast and I couldn't appreciate the author's attempt to 'build up' a credible, emotionally fulfilled plot...again...non-existent.

I m giving it a 2.5 stars rating cause it had prosperity written all over the blurb but it never reached the potential it promised. And since I love Ms. Horst writing in general, I m letting it slide...but this was just meh and I feel like it's below her other fantastic achievements....

But, of course, this is only my impression and i also know that those who love the "second chance/enemies to lovers" trope in their books with sweeter underlying general tone might love this story more, no doubt.

Ok, so, after reading this blurb I thought I was in for a college based book where the relentless man-whore lands the focused, beautiful, burdened girl. I was only sort of right. When I finished reading the book I went back to re-read the blurb and make sure I wasn’t associating the wrong blurb with this book, but it was the correct blurb/book connection. The blurb just didn’t really match the story imo. Carter and Della are only in college for about 20% of the book, then they graduate and are lost to one another for awhile.

This book was very fast-paced and I didn’t feel like I was given a good opportunity to bond with the characters. The major event of their relationship is skipped over! I don’t feel like this is a spoiler, it is technically in the blurb (though I missed it), that they spend four years apart after college. Della essentially does a duck and run, and Carter gets some horrid information at the same time, there could have been major emotional turmoil for the characters and we could have had an opportunity to feel what they were feeling through this tumultuous experience except, rather than dive into these feelings, they’re completely skipped. We’re not even given one glimpse at their time apart, not even a flash-back. Once the characters reconnect everything moves at the speed of light.

There’s a point in the book where one of Carter’s friends says that he’s being a dick like his dad and then Carter briefly reminisces about his dad, though none of it is bad, and I was left confused about the comparison. Additionally Carter makes an off-handed comment about not trusting women after his mother, and I wasn’t given any information on this until later, and the info given was seriously lacking. Carter is unnecessarily dick-ish toward Della, and he’s supposed to be ‘heartless’ but it seemingly has no motive, and Della so easily overlooks his rude comments.

There is a group of friends in this story, each of which will get their own story, and it seems odd that Carter and Della came first. With their extended separation we see a few of the other characters together in this one. I think it would have been prudent to start with the characters that were going to get together during this time Della and Carter were apart.

I did enjoy Rhett’s character and would definitely consider reading his book, though he does start off awful and quickly turns into a sweety. I’m fairly certain it won’t happen but I’m almost holding out hope Rhett will date Jamie...

This story and author seem to have potential but without the connection to the characters, and with the plot holes it just didn’t work for me.

Good read!

When I started this book I wasn't sure what to expect. I really enjoyed the concept and storyline but it all seemed a bit rushed to me. I wish there was more of the in between. To me it seemed to jump around quite a bit so I was kinda on the fence about the rating on weather it was 3 or 4 stars to me. However, the ending is what pushed me toward those 4 stars. Jamie and Danny are what did it for me! I absolutely loved what happened and it truly made me like this book so much better! I loved the dynamic between the guys. I could only wish for a group like them! All in all it wasn't a bad read!

I was not the biggest fan of how this whole book started. The ''Screw crew'' was just not my thing. I got the fact these guys were nice eventually and took care of the ones they cared about BUT I would have preferred that they had not been known as the screw crew and wanting to bang whoever they saw and then BET money?

Carter was mean to her for a very stupid reason. He walks in with her roommate who had been clearly hit in the face and Della assumed the worst, but I don't blame her after her initial meeting with those guys BUT because of this assumption Carter hates her and basically treats her like shit and says horrible things to her.

They end up sleeping together but when she overhears him on the phone with a woman she again assumes the worst and runs off. The call however was his father PA telling him his dad had another heart attack and was in critical condition and needed to come right away but Della assumes he lied about his feelings towards her and was sleeping with other girls. Hurt she gave her virginity to him and believed his life, she takes off without a word.

She is nowhere to be found afterwards and nobody can contact her since she wasn't close to any of them, and they didn't have her home address and phone. We find out she gets pregnant after that night and tries to contact Carter, but the same PA sends her a letter stating to never contact again or they would press charges for lying.

Della spends the next few years struggling to make ends meet to take care of her daughter and younger sister. Carter and the guys end up seeing her and that’s when Carter finds out he has a child....Della fears he is here to hurt her or take their daughter away but quickly finds out he never knew.

I swear there was just a lot of miscommunication between them and so many assumptions. Della spent years alone and not being with anyone and we are of course not so shocked to hear Carter was sleeping around....I wished they both had tried harder to find each other.

The drama between them two could of been easily avoided but we needed that drama to keep the story going.

Am I interested in the other guys and their stories? A little bit but not really.

SECOND TIME READING IT JAN 28TH 2020

Was the writing always this iffy? Were the events always so dramatic? Did everything just happen all at once? Regardless, i was addicted to see how the story unfolded.

MY RATING: 3.5/5 STARS

I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Okay, honestly, Heartless was a very borderline book for me. Authors who follow the troupe of enemies to lovers seem to be mistaken nowadays about what it means to be a lovable enemy to a hateful and rude enemy. I was literally seething while I read this book a lot of the times because of how some characters behaved and I'll get into it more later but be AWARE. THIS IS YOUR WARNING.

So let's start with the premise of the book. We have our heroine Della who follows the sad background that her parents are dead and she has to take care of her sister while also trying to finish her university degree. She's pretty much just working hard at night and hitting the books during the day and definitely does not need distractions like Carter.

Carter comes from a wealthy family. His mother left him and his dad when he was young so he has some mama issues and his dad is on the brink of death with his declining health so what he really wants to do is just finish his degree and then take over his family's business. He's also a big a**hole to Della and I was actually shaking a lot for the hot n' cold comments he made towards her. There were some moments in the book that really worried me but Michelle Horst did a great job at clarifying character intentions and making them realize their actions are so wrong.

Despite me having difficulty with our main hero, I still cried and was very emotional towards what happened to this couple that worked so hard to get together and then was ultimately torn apart. I thought the heroines in the book were great. They stood their place and wasn't afraid to tell the alpha males off for the stuff they were saying and pulling. I also enjoyed the group of males we got to know. They really are a family and it's touching to see them band together to protect their own.

The problem with this book was also that it ended so abruptly I was shocked. I thought there would be a lot more to the story but at least, everything was resolved. It just left me disappointed.

MY RECOMMENDATION:

I feel like I'll be interested in this series but I'm not sure if it'll be a read i'll gravitate towards to first. Maybe I'll read it after I read my other TBR books and then back to it. Nonetheless, Heartless is a touching novel with some questionable characters that you can sink into.

Heartless took me by surprise as I didn't expect it to be that sweet, more like an angsty and stressful story.
This is a quick read, first installment in the Enemies to Lovers series; it features Carter and Della, but you'll meet all the others couples of the next installments.
That's what I particularly enjoyed in this book: the tribe vibe, the numerous friends who have each others' backs. They all are endearing characters, making you want to be a part of this big family.

Carter is a member of the Screw Crew, as the five of those young men call themselves. They are players, some more than others and as such you can imagine where all of this book is going. Yes.... but no, lol!
The first part of the book takes place when Carter and Della are in college, both of them fucusing on their studies.
Della has her future all planned out: getting her degree and moving back with her little sister, take care of her, offer her the life they have always dreamed of.
Carter had piqued her curiosity but Della isn't interested in flirting and dating. One night brings them together but she jumps to conclusions about his personality, which brings up the walls he is well known to have. That's when you understand why they call him heartless. He is unforgiving and at the same time very attracted to Della, a very promising mix of emotions!!!

The thing with plans is that they don't always turn out as expected, right?
The second part of the book takes place 4 years later and I think I liked this part even more. It gave a feel good feeling, with a lot of communication and a Carter who doesn't hide his emotions. Seriously it was refreshing. Although the following events turned out to be rather common in romance books, the protectiveness Carter and the Screw Crew showed, added with really cute moments left me with a huge smile in my face. I'm definitely looking forward to Reckless!

Af!!!!
O enredo em si foi bom. Somente!

What an introduction to the #screwcrew. This book will pull you in straight from the start. Heartless is the first book in the enemies to lovers series. This is Carter and Della's Story.

This book was a rollercoaster of emotions, Carter is sexy and hot in the outside but cold and ruthless on the inside. Della is the most genuine, selfless person and I really loved her characters. A Story of two people from two different worlds colliding in a whirlwind of lust and love.

A jam packed emotional read about love lost, second chances, heartbreak, and love. I wanted to kill Carter at times but then I was swooning over him. A truly magnificent emotional read.

What I love about Michelle's books is she knows how to make you connect and feel with the characters, you become a part of their story which is amazing. I can't wait for the next book.

Wow! I loved Heartless it took my breath away.

It was everything I loved, enemies to lovers, Secret baby, Insta love, second chance romance and in the mix fan me down hot with great characters. It was like eating my favourite cake with my choice toppings.

Della hasn't had it easy life, she's studying hard at college after losing both her mother and father and taken in by a woman who she now looks at like a mother who also takes care of her younger sister while Della has the chance to get her qualifications at college.

Della shares an apartment with other girls but doesn't go out partying or socialising she study's and works at a diner as a waitress, she is away from home and there for one reason and that's to complete her courses, get a good job and be able to look after herself and her sister.

Della's first encounter with what the girls call the screw crew is in the diner where she works and you could say it doesn't go down well. Della has heard the rumours about the boys and the girls saying they want to be part of the boys screw crew, a notch on their bed post as though it's something to brag about and she has no time or respect for any of that.

While serving the guys, a bit of banter and flirting, the guys realise she doesn't fall for their charm easily and they make a bet that they can bed her the bets go up to $400.00 to who can get her first, this may have been said in jest but Della is more determined than ever to stay away from them.

You quickly learn that rumours are simply that, just rumours and the guys come to Della's rescue more than once.

Carter Hayes has an instant attraction to Della which annoys him, he is determined not to be one of those guys who fall for a girl and get hurt in the process like his dad did, so what does he do? he plays the mean card to protect himself.

The chemistry is hot, I loved the gradual melting, the moments of defeat, the submission and surrendering where Carter stops fighting his feelings to stay away and then the burn returns again when Carter and Della become reunited again years later.

I loved all the guys and I can't wait for more in this series, I didn't want it to end.

This story goes from the last college year to 4 years later when Carter is CEO of his fathers company. Della may not of believed in fairy-tales but she goes from rags to living the life of a princess with her swoon worthy King.

So I was two minded about this book, a book about guys making a bet, but I have to say that Michelle put my mind at ease when I started this book. I was hooked from the beginning.

Della is a women who hasn't had an easy childhood, now all she lives for is working, finishing her studies and taking care of herself and her sister. This is how she first meets the guys, the screw crew' at the diner where she works. Della overhears them making a bet about who can bed her first and she knows she should stay away from them.

Carter is instantly attracted to Della and its not something that he wants. His father wasn't that lucky in love and Carter does not want to go down the same path as him, so he tries to stop it by being a total douche to Della.

But if two people are meant to be, then it's going to happen whether you want it to or not. And nothing will stand in its way, not even time

I loved this story, lots of drama and lots steamy and swoon moments. I have to say that in the beginning I seriously didn't like Carter, but he redeemed himself and now I love him. And I can't wait for the next book to see what this crew gets up to.

I am 100% a Screw Crew Babe! 4.5 heartless stars.
I was absolutely over excited for this series as I am a fan of Michelle's work and she has not disappointed at all. Della and Carter have chemistry that is absolutely off the hinges hot and because of a series of unfortunate events, things don't go as planned. This book is filled with drama and intrigued and keeps you on your toes. This is a perfect example of how opposites attract as Della and Carter could not be more opposite if they tried. This was the perfect way to be introduced to all of the boys of the screw crew and I can tell you that I am now looking forward to next 4 books as these boys are absolutely awesome. Yes, the boys are man whores to an extent but have the most amazing personalities and make you want to love them all. Hope you enjoyed this as much as I did.

4.5 Explosively Sexy Screw Crew Stars!

HEARTLESS by Michelle Horst stole my heart!!! I love me an uber angsty enemies to lovers tale and this one was jam packed with so much delish! We have LOVE. LUST. ANGER. BETRAYAL. REVENGE. MISTRUST. FRIENDSHIP. SECRETS. LIES. And a SOUL-BURNING PASSION that cannot be contained! There is so much riveting drama from start to finish and I am still riding an euphoric high!

This scintillating release, which features volatile Alpha male Carter Hayes, and Della Truman, the beautiful spitfire he loves to hate, launches the author's brand new interconnected series that's chock full of gripping drama, yummy testosterone, steamy sexy times, and EPIC feels! This 5 book extravaganza is centered around a close-knit group of hot men on campus affectionately dubbed the Screw Crew.

“Every girl wants to be screwed by them and every guy wants to be one of them.”

I just swooned hard for Carter, Logan, Jaxson, Marcus and Rhett. These sinfully sexy bluebloods reek of money and love to cause a ruckus, yet beneath all the cocky swagger, their bond of brotherhood runs deep and they live by a chivalrous code of honor that makes you melt! Oh and for the record, I am claiming the roguishly charming Rhett for myself!! Sorry, ladies but this adorable manwhore is MINE!!

Michelle Horst NAILED the emotions in this first riveting installment and weaves an intricate, multi-layered story that draws you in from page one. From the first moment college coeds Carter and Della first lock eyes at Rameses bar/diner you can feel the sparks fly, but alas their budding attraction soon goes down in flames because it later ends in false accusations, wounded pride, and a nasty plan of revenge is set in motion. There is so much palpable tension and stormy chemistry between this couple throughout that you can feel the whirlwind of intense emotions down to your core!

Both these protagonists were vibrant, complex and beautifully flawed. I loved them dearly yet also wanted to throttle them on occasion because they were both so infuriatingly stubborn!!! In many ways they were their own worst enemies.

Della has had such a hard life and I rooted for this strong, brave and resilient heroine who struggles mightily throughout. I felt my heart crack along with hers when she initially becomes the target of Carter’s wrath and fury when truly all she ever wanted was to try to rise above her impoverished upbringing so she can pave a better life for herself and her younger sister, Jamie. Falling in love with a hot-tempered bad boy who was way out of her league was never part of the plan…but who would have ever imagined that she alone had the power to decimate Heartless's heart?.

Gah! I have a weakness for Dark and Domineering Alphas and Carter Hayes fits the bill to a T! Man oh man does this book’s hero know how to hold a grudge— “Carter doesn’t forgive he gets even” and crossing him or one of his mates is a big, big mistake. He can be cold as ice and has a cruel streak, but contrary to popular opinion, this hot as sin badass is not really as heartless as he seems. As the story progresses, you see a sweeter, softer, more protective side to this broody alpha male, and I promise you will fall hopelessly in love with him along with Delia.!!!

Carter and Della are just MEANT TO BE!! For bubbling beneath all the anger and recrimination and hurt feelings you always feel the soul deep connection between them. And holy smokes…their sexual encounters are so SMOLDERING HOT you feel the burn! Even when tragedy and miscommunication wrenches these lovers apart and they don't see each other again for four long years, the instant they come together again it's as if time literally stood still. Well, with one itty bitty exception but my lips are sealed on that front. I am being intentionally cryptic because you are better off going into this book blind and experiencing every tumultuous moment for yourself!!

Just a couple of small quibbles in an otherwise flawless book. First, the time jumps into the future were a bit jarring and kind of caught me off guard. Second, I was a bit disappointed that Carter and Della never cleared the air in regard to the misunderstanding that was the catalyst for their breakup four years earlier. I would have liked some closure on that front but the matter was just dropped and never mentioned again. And, lastly, while I LOVED the HEA (ummm sexiest ending ever!) , the book ends rather abruptly and I would have enjoyed an epilogue of some kind so I had more time to bask in this couple's bliss. But hopefully we will get updates on Carter and Della in future installments.

That aside, I enjoyed every single ADRENALINE-PUMPING, PASSION-FUELED moment in this fanfreakingtastic book. And as far as I am concerned, Michelle Horst is a freaking ROCK STAR!! She once again proved with this delectable tale that she is an author of rich, diverse talents and can write anything from hot erotica to gritty romantic suspense to heart-tugging NA and everything in between. The sky is truly the limit!! Now I am GIDDY with anticipation awaiting all the other Screw Crew books to unfold!! ,

Two HUGE thumbs up for Heartless!!!

Did I enjoy this? Yeah. It’s a super quick read jam packed with tropes.

Why?

I think this is an enemies to lovers and second chance love done right. I typically don’t enjoy a second chance romance bc the breakup usually has a good reason. I love how the Screw Crew are a bunch of Chads but also not - decent character development for such a short story. Della’s cool too.

Why not 5 stars?

I mostly complain about books be way too long but for everything going on in this story I wouldn’t have minded maybe another 100 pages. Also, got some whiplash every now and again with which character we’re focusing on and I LOVE YOU to YOU TASTE LIKE SHIT 🤦🏻‍♀️

Is it spicy? Yes.

Is it smutty smut smut? I’ve read smuttier and the smut doesn’t really take hold til after 50%

The heroine hears the hero and his friends (the screw team) make a bet about who can/will have sex with the heroine first.
I thought this would be like ever other “bet” story I have read before. However, the hero and his friends know the heroine heard about the bet and the guys and her become friends because of some incidents that happen to her.
The hero and heroine still have a hate/love relationship but you read their point through dual POVs.

I skimmed from 60% to the end. Nothing really held my attention from that point.

I enjoy this types of stories, so I couldn't wait for this book. Though I was apprehensive at the same time. I wasn't sure about the part where in the blurb said she new about the bet, but Della still let Carter in. I'm not fan of this, but I didn't let it to discourage me, because at the end you need to find out for yourself how author express it. Will I love it? Or will I hate it? And I have to say Michelle did a marvellous job! That part didn't bothered me at all. It's actually has different touch to it. At least it's how I saw it.

I loved both Carter and Della. She was someone who was ready to sacrifice anything to make a person she loves to be happy and taken care of. And Carter... Well, he was a heartless dick. But behind it was something more. Something that won me over.

And here comes the confession time. After this book I'm proud The Screw Crew babe! I have a HUGE crush on all five guys! Yes, for a short while at the beginning, I wanted to smack them, but soon I was hooked. They aren't what I thought they would be. They are more. And I so looking forward for theirs books.

Christ on a cracker, this was NOT what I expected.

First of all, I generally really like this author’s work. I’ve read and enjoyed some of her darker romances. I really liked Predator, even though it was a little more violent than I usually care for in my romance reads. (Update: The book cover now says Michelle Heard instead of Michelle Horst. I'm assuming they're the same author, but I'm not absolutely sure, so my apologies if I made an incorrect assumption) And, I love a good enemies-to-lovers read, too, so I thought this one was a sure thing—a future 5-star read. To say I was let down when I got to the end of the book would be an understatement.

Sadly, my problems with the story are rather extensive:

False advertising:
The blurb would lead you to believe this is mostly a new adult romance, set in college. In reality, the characters are only in college for about 20% of the book. Then there’s a time jump and a secret baby. (I HATE a secret baby) The majority of the book is not a new adult romance, so anyone expecting angsty, college romance (like I was) will likely be disappointed with this book.

The heroine:
Della is almost pathetically weak. She lets a rude comment or two from the hero, Carter, emotionally crush her and wreck her confidence WHEN SHE’D JUST MET THE GUY. She’s also one of these impossibly gorgeous creatures that all the men love, and yet she describes herself as below average in the looks department. I call it a symptom of Bella Swan syndrome.

Then, after the time jump, she ushers Carter back into her life with open arms (and legs) SUPER quickly. I could forgive her for that if she also didn’t let Carter make all her decisions for her. But, alas, Della lets Carter swoop in and “fix” her entire life without really giving her a say in the matter. She’s nothing but Carter’s little moldable trophy wife by the end of the story, and I resented the crap out of her on behalf of feminists everywhere.

And, while I don’t intend to blame victims in any way, Della is attacked and needs to be rescued by Carter not once, but TWICE in this story. She barely even fights back either time. If there’s one thing I can’t tolerate it’s a damsel in distress who does next to nothing to protect herself, and Della is FOR SURE a damsel in distress.

The hero:
Carter’s an alphahole. He feels something for Della, and of course, emotions are super scary for alphaholes, so he tells her she smells and tastes like shit. (I’m not even making that up) And this is a dude who is described in the blurb as having irresistible charm! I saw no evidence of his “charm”. He was an emotionally stunted alphahole in college, and after the time jump, he was a demanding alphahole who pretty much bullied Della into doing everything his way, without really asking her what she wanted. (Not that it mattered. She didn’t really want anything for herself, anyway. But that’s beside the point.)

Instalove:
The subtitle is another thing that is misleading about this book. Carter and Della are never really enemies. They’re immediately super attracted to each other, and human emotions terrify Carter, so he acts like a complete dillhole. It’s only a few days after Carter is a total dillhole to Della that Della decides to go ahead and have sex with him, because Carter apologizes. (Kind of. It’s a pretty lackluster apology that attempted to justify his douchebaggery. It wouldn’t have worked on me. I would have nut-punched him. But maybe that’s just me...) Then, when they reconnect after the time jump, they fall immediately into the role of happy little family, even though they barely know each other (and never really knew each other to begin with). It was all pretty unrealistic and annoying.

Long-story-short, this one wasn’t my cuppa. I probably won’t read the rest of the books in the series. (Frankly it’s hard to get invested in any group of men who are proud to be referred to as “the screw crew”) But, like I said earlier, I have faith in this author, so I’m not giving up on her. I’ll just stick to her more adult romances. I think it’s been pretty well established that new adult just isn’t made for grumpy old ladies like me.

Absolutely not! I’m trying to write more positive reviews, but this was awful! I didn’t even have high expectations because I haven’t read this author before, but I couldn’t even finish it. I never do that. I’ll skim it to see the end or suffer through it, but not this one. I think I got to 54% and suffered through til 68% and then just gave up cause life is just too short.

I could see that this book might fly if it was written in the 80’s. There was zero % of this book that was plausible or relatable to this decade.

Let’s take a swing at this thing:

There’s a group on campus called the screw crew, and girls are lining up to get on the screwed list.

Some random guys are footing the bill for her roommate’s tuition, and she’s just a buddy to them.

No one can give this girl a ride to her home that appears to be about a 10 minute walk. There’s no Uber or Lyft in this college town, and she’s made absolutely no friends at work or at school.

He says she smells like shit. He literal says that, and she just can’t stop thinking how hot he is.

He kisses her because he just has to have her and tells her she TASTES LIKE SHIT! You said what now? What woman with any self-esteem whatsoever would give a douche bag like that the time of day??

After 2 encounters where he basically jumps on her with no hint that she’s up for it, she turns up at a party and propositions him even though she knows there is a bet on who can “get her to spread her legs” first. That’s hot. Please wait while I vomit.

She got pregnant with a condom on her first time.

She can’t get the message to this, maybe, 25 year old dude in the age of social media? Really? No one knows him or has the ability to get in touch? How about contacting child support enforcement so you aren’t homeless with a child and a teenager. Who is even watching that child while she works all day?

She just ditched her life and uprooted her teenage sister to move in with some guy, who said he wasn’t going to take their child from her, but then takes the child from her unless she agrees to move to another state and live with him.

This fresh new graduate is capable of running a multimillion dollar company at 25 with no apparent work experience, but this chick has worked in a restaurant for the last 4 years and can’t manage a small diner.

I think that’s where I finally put myself out of misery. It’s not getting any better, and clearly even the editor couldn’t be bothered to read it if the typos and grammar are any indication.

Let me save you the time. Find another book or go read the back of a cereal box or something. This is a definite no.

Read on behalf of Two Darlin' Dolls and a Book Review.

"I crave more from life than the monotonous existence that small town has to offer. I want to experience everything life has to offer. I want to be independent. I want to travel. I want to live."

I freaking LOVED this book. I'm a sucker for enemies to lovers stories but this was more than that. This is also a heartwarming story of love lost and second chances. Honestly this book will grab you from the prologue.

"Once in a while, someone will break free from the norm society has created. I want to be one of those people. I want to be different. I want to break every damn rule society has ever made for us."

Della is smart, beautiful and heartbreakingly kind while trying her best to be independent. She is focused on finishing school in order to provide a better life for her little sister. She is perfectly content with flying under the radar and going unnoticed by the opposite sex. That is until she locks eyes with Carter.

"I hate him but I want him. I want to push him away but at the same time, I want him to strip me bare. I hate myself for wanting him."

Carter is a hot as sin, heartless jerk. Who also happens to be a member of the Screw Crew. Is it bad that I love that name? He is not someone you want to insult or cross and if you do he will enjoy destroying you.

"I’m Carter Hayes. I’m fucking heartless. I don’t care about the beautiful blue-eyed girl behind me. I don’t want her. She means nothing to me."

Accidentally judging someone can cause consequences that you aren't willing to face. Once you open this book you will not be able to stop till the end. I cannot wait for what's to come. I highly recommend this book and hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

"I’m giving you my broken heart, Della. I can only trust you with it.”
“I’ll keep it safe. I promise.”

I've read a ton of books lately but haven't reviewed any of them. About 20% in I lost all interest and felt COMPELLED to mention how bad this book is.

1) The blurb and what actually happens in the book differs. I call this false advertising.
2) Most of the men in this book are absolute ASSHOLES. The bet in the beginning was douchey, but not irredeemable. But how the heroine goes from hating these men for placing her at the centre of an obnoxious bet to thinking they're all sweet (within the pan of 10 pages) was just ridiculous.
3) A man who kisses me and then tells me I smell like sh** and taste like sh** is written off forever. Goodbye.

I couldn't read on. The heroine was a pathetic mess and the hero an ass. Neither were particularly interesting and nor was I rooting for them to succeed.

This is book one in the Enemies to Lovers series. I love this authors stories and this was no different. Again Michelle has captivated me with her story.

Della and Carter are totally opposites. The chemistry between them is off the charts. Carter is part of the Screw Crew. He doesn't want to fall in love or settle down but sometimes fate interferes. Della has had a tough life and I was hoping she would find happiness.

After reading the blurb I didn't think I'd like Carter and the Screw Crew but after reading Heartless I love these guys and can't wait to read more of this series.

4.5 Stars!!!! Screw Crew babe 100%!!!!

I wanted to strangle Carter in this book.. even after I still want to strangle him for a few things hehe.

But all in all, I loved the characters. Della is a strong willed, independent person who knows how to take care of herself. She's at school and only has a short time left before she graduates and earns her degree. Carter... well, to be honest, he's a heartless jerk... But behind the heartlessness of him, there's more to him. Over time he did win me over but in a completely different way. Yes, i still want to kind of smack him but once u read this book you will get a better understanding of where Carter is coming from and why he is the way that he is.

As for the rest of the characters in this book known as the Screw Crew... SWOON!!! Not over their name but once you get to know them... gah I so cannot wait to see where Michelle goes from here in the Enemies to Lovers series.

Enjoyable, sexy, enemies to lovers romance told in dual POV. Carter Hayes is rich, privileged and kind of an a$$hole, he’s ruthless and if you get on his wrong side, for whatever reason, he'll make your life a living hell. Della Truman just wants to finish college, go back home and take care of her family. No hassle, no relationships, just study, work and provide for her loved ones, however, once she gets on Carter’s radar life takes a complicated turn. I love enemies to lovers and Heartless did not disappoint. All the characters worked well together, I loved both Carter and Della, they were strong (I don't generally like a pushover) and principled. The supporting characters were funny, sexy and supportive, once you get to know them and are welcomed into their clique . With lots of sexy time and a few emotional moments I thoroughly enjoyed Carter and Della’s story. I received an advanced copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 stars!

I really, REALLY, Liked this book! ❤

Carter is a total Alpha guy and a bit of a control freak, BUT he is totally sweet and in love with Della... eventually ;)

Della is strong, brave, idependent! And she kicks ass! I fricking loved her!

I only wish the book was longer so there could have been an even better development of their story and a longer epilogue (give me more, more scenes and details, please).

This is a series I will DEFINITELY be following! (And I'm not even a series type of reader).

I absolutely Loved the 5 boys of the Screw Crew, so I will be patiently waiting for the other books, so I'll be able to read their stories... I'm mostly eager to read Logan's -Reckless - and Rhett's - Shameless - books! ❤ ... And I would like a book with Jamie's story too (well, maybe someday...)

So, if you're looking for a quick, but well written, light(ish), Good Contemporary read, this is the book to read! You'll most definitely enjoy it.

For anyone that knows me, I love a good Enemies-to-Lovers trope. Well obsessed really. They're my go-to right along with Dark Romances. And this book did not disappoint. The blurb catches your eye immediately and I couldn't wait to get my hands on it. Michelle has continued to write captivating stories that are unlike anything you have ever read before.

The chemistry between Della and Carter are off the charts, unlike anything I've seen. I could feel the tension between the two rolling off the pages and it burned me so good. None of them were expecting to fall for the other and it's amazing to see how it all falls into place. The Screw Crew are my new favourite set of guys and is this blog's newly anticipated series of the year!
