New Standalone Sports Romance

Sexy Athlete: I bet you . . .
Penelope Graham: Burn in hell, quarterback.

The text is random but Penelope figures out exactly who “Sexy Athlete” is. And why she shouldn't take his wager.

Ryker Voss.
Football star.
Walks on water and God's gift to women.
Just ask him.

His bet? He promises Penelope he’ll win her the heart of the guy she’s been crushing on. His plan—good old-fashioned jealousy. Once her crush sees her kissing Ryker, he'll realize what he's missing. Sounds legit, right? The only question is . . . why is Ryker being so nice to her?

Penelope Graham.
Virgin.
Lover of sparkly vampires and calculus.
His mortal enemy.

Penelope knows she shouldn’t trust a jock, but what’s a girl to do when she needs a date to Homecoming? And Ryker’s keeping a secret, another bet, one that will destroy Penelope’s heart forever.

Will the quarterback score the good girl or will his secrets mean everyone loses this game of love?

*Author's Note: This is a standalone sports romance with an HEA.

**You do not have to have read I Dare You, although you should if you love jocks and nerdy heroines. :)

➳When an instant attraction takes place, there will be no denying that Penelope and Ryker are meant to be in a quirky, charismatic, and burning with passion romance novel that yet again, Ilsa has conquered in every way...

➳I know the kind of ability I have when it comes down to reading books in a fast pace, but never did I think I would ever encounter upon the day of when I would read a book in A DAY! My gosh am I shocked as you are, because bless all heavens and the soul of Ilsa for writing such an incredible sport romance that has me on the verge of bringing back all my Twilight merch that I currently have in my attic. Seriously y'all, this is a romance novel that I highly recommend, and wishing I could give it more than five stars. Everything that I adore in a sports romance is included. The sexual tension, all the passionate scenes that we encounter with Ryker and Penelope—two individuals that are one hundred percent different in every way. One, the team captain of his college football team, the quarterback with a reputation that oversees him whenever and wherever he may be. The other, a college student who is trying her best to stay focused on her literary career of becoming a romance novelist, while acquiring two different jobs and has a family past that has made her uncertain about every being in a relationship with a football player.

➳The chemistry between Ryker and Penelope is definitely something that should be talked about, but since I am a butt-head and I don't want to give anything away AND I also want everyone to be tempted to read this book, I shall keep my descriptions on a down low since this is a MUST novel to be read this fall season. My honest adoration for Ryker is the only thing keeping me head strong as well because my emotions where indeed all over the place with how sweet and caring Ryker actually is, hiding it all underneath this rough exterior of a man. When it comes down to Penelope, she is a head-strong type of gall as well, but once they are both together the ultimate of softness always comes into play;
"I swallowed and break our gaze, thinking about these confusing feelings I have for him. Because I can say all day long that I just want to be friends, but the truth is I'm so fucking hot for him that it hurts. I can't stop writing about him I can't stop looking at him..."

➳When the truth strucks, and Penelope finds out what has been going on, Ryker needs to try and find a way to have her back. Since his love her is one that he does not want to let it diminish. Something that I find rather endearing, making him a possessive alpha who stakes the claim over Pen. Not only physically, but also emotionally.

➳Overall, this story took me a level of want that I never thought I would ever seek. There is also no denying that this book is one of my 2018 favorites now, especially because it being fast paced, sweet, an alpha male is involved, and there are happy endings all around, Ilsa has officially made me a true fanatic of her writing.

I BET YOU: Is the second full length standalone novel within the series (The Hook Up #2) by Ilsa Madden-Mills. In this we meet Ryker Voss & Penelope Graham.

Twenty-one year old Ryker is the Quarterback’s golden boy of Waylon University where he’s attending his senior year, he's never been one to date seriously, but he's had his eye on Penelope from afar, she's not like the girls he's used too, she's nerdy and sweet, a red headed vampire loving crazy bird owner that works at their local restaurant 'Sugar's Bar and Grill' in Mississippi.

There's something mesmerizing about her that calls to the caveman in me and brings all my alpha instincts to the surface. She's part goofy but clever. Hot but innocent.

She’s the one that wrote a scathing editorial shaming and naming him as one of the attendees at the foot ball fighting ring that took place about him a few months back, even though she tried to right her wrong she’s gotten the feeling that due to that report he’s got it in for her. Or so she thinks. She despises guys like him, the jocks with the revolving doors, she only has to look at her father to know that she doesn't want anything to do with jocks.

But whenever she's around Ryker there's an unusual pull she feels towards him, an undeniable chemistry and sexual attraction that is off the charts, and has her questioning her rule about not dating jocks.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

If there’s a bet to be made, Ryker or his teammates will be the one’s dishing them out towards the lead up to homecoming to get their hands on the schools one and only betting trophy.

One bet that’s thrown down is that Ryker can’t get the girl before homecoming, and that girl is Penelope. But when that bet hurts the one he's started caring for all bets are off..

I have a weakness for cocky, arrogant sports jocks!! And this ticked those all important boxes when it came to this genre..The agnst, the hot jocks, the jersey chases who want to bed them, the guys who want to be them, the bets, this had it all going on..Straight away your pulled into the story, these two were utter perfection together, their banter, their sexy times all made for the perfect weekend read.

His beautiful, hard body is the best thing I’ve ever felt. I cling to him as we wrap our arms around each other, and for the first time since my mom passed, it feels like everything really does have meaning. A purpose. There really is fate. There really is emotion that transcends sorrow and sadness, those pains merely preparing you to accept the sweetness in life. Love.

I BET YOU is another sexy and funny sports romance about a popular college jock and quirky and sassy coed. There are countless romances with the same players and yet I never get tired of them. This story was steamy, wildly funny, and thoroughly entertaining. It’s not my first book by Ilsa Madden-Mills, and it will not be my last either. I love this author!

Ryker and Penelope may seem like an odd couple to most but they’re perfect for each other. A bet between the players of the Waylon football team is what sparks this unlikely romance but deep down they have a real burning attraction building between them. I loved their funny banter and smoking hot chemistry. There’s a nice dose of angst thrown in to mess with a reader’s emotions but in the end, this story has a lot of heart! I was thoroughly entertained and delighted with this one. I highly recommend it.

Here are my overall ratings:

Hero: 4.5
Heroine: 4.5
Plot: 4
Angst: 4
Steam: 5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

Penelope Graham is a southern girl who grew up in the small college town of Magnolia, Mississippi. She’s a quirky bookworm who loves romance novels and everything twilight. She holds down two jobs, and goes to school full time as a senior at Waylon University. She hasn’t had a lot of experience with dating, but does know she isn’t interested in football players. She knows too well how they operate. Then she gets the attention of the most popular guy on campus, Ryker Voss.

Ryker is the golden boy of Waylon University. The captain of the football team, and the star quarterback for the Wildcats. He’s the hottest jock around and a total player. Ryker and his friends love to hang out at the restaurant she works at. When he begins to show interest in her, she is suspicious of his intentions. The football team is notorious for their betting shenanigans leading up to homecoming, and she doesn’t trust him. She doesn’t even like him, but she’s still affected by his good looks. He’s absolutely gorgeous, and she hates she can’t stop fantasizing about him.

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

There’s a bit of drama between them that results in an apology and some promises. They begin spending time together and soon can’t keep pretending they’re only interested in friendship. There’s a real connection between the good girl and the sexy athlete. Opposites attract and the fireworks between them can no longer be denied. As they get to know each other better Penelope realizes Ryker isn’t the person she thought he was. He’s not the arrogant womanizer who has to be the center of attention. He’s kind, funny, and she can’t help being drawn to him. Ryker can’t get enough of Penelope. Something about her is different. She’s genuine, beautiful, and her opinion matters to him. As they start to fall for one another will secrets ruin everything, or will love win?

-Something about him gets the rebel in me riled up.

-“Your the kind of girl I have to work for.”

-“You... are... everything.”

I loved this enemies to lovers college sports romance! It has hilarious banter, fabulous characters, insane chemistry, and delicious football players. I couldn’t put this book down, and was completely consumed from start to finish!

Romance: ❤️💙💜💛💚
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌎🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 👤👤👤👤

The setting: Waylon University

The Hero(s): Ryker Voss - QB1 and the most handsome guy at the school. Ryker is always surrounded by Jersey Chasers. He had some trouble last year when his best friend on the team was fighting illegally and he didn’t tell anyone on the team. His friend was suspended for several games and Ryker was cleared but not until his name was dragged through the mud.

The heroine: Penelope Graham - she is a smart girl who studies in her free time and wants to someday be a romance novelist. She daydreams and writes historical romances and they always seem to star Ryker Voss. Her father was a football player and left her mother when she got pregnant, so Penelope will never date a football player

The Love Story: Ryker and his friends have bets going all the time and he makes a bet about Penelope. Penelope has a crush on a studious guy in one of her classes and Ryker tells her he will help her get a date with the guy.

I love Ilsa Madden-Mills books, they have plenty of steam and lots of humor. I am just getting in to audiobooks so I thought this would be a good one to listen to. I enjoyed the narration, though there was something about the inflection sometimes in the woman’s voice that made me dislike Penelope a bit. I am not sure if it was how she was reading certain lines or the actual words, but I suspect it was how she was reading it.

I guess I just got the impression that Penelope was a bit uppity from the way she said certain things. Though overall I really did like the narration and the story was great. I do like sports romances and I love it when the protagonist has an animal. This one was a parrot named Vampire Bill and Penelope was teaching him a new word every day. Overall this is rated 4.5 so I will give it 5 stars.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I could NOT put this book down. It’s funny. It’s fun. It’s sweet. It’s sexy. It’s a page turner. It’s light new adult college sports romance at its absolute best. The banter is EVERYTHING. The relationship between the mains is EVERYTHING! The side characters are just intriguing and interesting enough without taking over the whole story. The trope is not new, but Madden-Mills somehow writes in a way that makes it feel original and fresh. Ryker is the man of your book hero dreams, and Penelope is the heroine you can relate to and root for. So. So. Good!

I swear I’ll write a better review later when I’m not delirious, but damn this book is good. Read it on 10/25!

Ryker Voss is MINE!!!! Gah! Not only is his name the stuff of legends, so is he! This is why I call Ilsa Madden-Mills the Queen of New Adult romance!! All the swoons!!

It’s not often I love a genuinely sweet hero, but it happens. Ryker and Penelope are super cute. I’m not certain if I should classify this as enemies to lovers or friends to lovers because they’re both.

Here’s what I loved:
Penelope is quirky and a bit of a mess. But she’s also self aware and brave. She has no problem putting Ryker or any of the football gods in their place. I loved her personality.
Ryker is so flipping sweet. He’s such a great guy. I love that he can’t seem to figure out how to act with her. It’s quite entertaining to witness these two figure out what’s truly going on between them.

It’s a realistic take on romance at this age. Quirky, sexy, and fun! Recommended.

On the outside, Ryker Voss is the typical college football star, which is exactly what Penelope thinks and why she would rather avoid him. But there's more him than just a cocky grin, and he's determined to make her see that. Even if it means torturing himself with an entire movie about sparkly vampires. I really liked his character and enjoyed getting to see those endearing moments where he wasn't as confident and was pretty shy when it came to his feeling for Penelope.

Penelope was this fun and quirky character that didn't let what others thought affect her life. She was definitely not a soft spoken bookworm of a heroine, and instead she stood up to Ryker and his football friends when they wanted to make her a bet. Like Ryker though she had moments where that confidence wavered some, like with dating, but that's when Ryker was there to show her the ropes and make me swoon. They were honestly adorable together and I loved those moments Ryker could turn Penelope into a blushing mess.

Bottom line, Ilsa Madden-Mills knows how to do NA romance brilliantly well and I loved this book. It is definitely a book I recommend reading, and can be read as a standalone with no problem if you haven't read I Dare You.

Overall Opinion: I tried really hard not to let my expectations get me this time, and I think for the most part I succeeded. I didn't expect much from this book (except maybe some hot scenes), but it really was hard going in after seeing all the raving reviews not to expect more. It was predictable, not very deep (even though the author threw out some characteristics that should have been deep but were not really delved into all the way), and kinda low on the steam factor. It was alright. Not something I would hate and not something that I would love -- but it's that darn college athlete theme so I couldn't resist, right?! 😜

Brief Summary of the Storyline: This is Penelope and Ryker's story. Ryker has been coming around Penelope ever since she wrote an expose about his involvement in an illegal fighting circuit. Penelope's dad was a NFL football player and burned her mom, so she has sworn herself off of football players. After a bet that ends up hurting her feelings, Ryker offers to make it up to her by helping her gain her crush's attention. After spending more time together, they both realize that they want each other. There is some team and family drama and a few sexy times...and they get a HFN ending.

POV: This alternated between Penelope and Ryker's POV.

Overall Pace of Story: Good until the very end (see closure section below). I never skimmed and I thought it flowed well.

Instalove: No, they take a while to develop stronger feelings.

H rating: 4 stars. Ryker. I liked him. I appreciated how he didn't care what others thought of his feelings for the h.

h rating: 3.5 stars. Penelope. I liked her for the most part. I appreciated tha she was smart. I didn't like how she took Archer's (who she knew was a scumbag) words and didn't let Ryker speak for himself.

Sadness level: Low, no tissues needed

Push/Pull: Yes

Heat level: Good. They have some good tension, chemistry, and scenes -- but not so much it takes away from the story. It's kind of a slow burn, because they aren't intimate until ~70ish% in my kindle app.

Descriptive sex: Yes

OW/OM drama: Not really

Sex scene with OW or OM: No

Cheating: No

Separation: Yes

Possible Triggers: Yes

Closure: This had alright closure with what I would call a HFN ending, but I'm sure other readers would be fine in classifying it as a HEA . The ending did feel abrupt, as yet again we have a book where the big conflict is resolved and then we are thrown into an epilogue.

Safety: This one should be either Safe or Safe with exception for most safety gang readers depending on personal preferences.

Oh this is a fun one. The title alone tells you it’ll be interesting. What’s a bet, right?? A harmless fun bet to a bunch of football players might be a devastating life changing one for others.

I enjoyed Penelope. She was that innocent yet strong girl. She knew what she wanted, saw where her future laid, and she tried to stay true to her feelings. Enter Ryker. Ryker the college team quarterback. The most popular boy on campus, heck in the nation. And when he shows interest, you catch on that it’s all because of a bet. But here’s the thing. Is it a bet. Is the connection, the feelings, the memories made all a bet, a horrible taken too far bet, or is it really a story of two deserving individuals falling in love?????

I enjoyed this one, it was sweet, it was fun, and I’m a sucker for these football players 🏈

I Bet You is the second book in the Hook Up series, but it can be read as a standalone. What a fantastic addition to the series! I loved how this book started and I kept loving it until the end. Real life has been very busy lately, but I couldn’t wait to continue reading this book and I did read every minute I could. I Bet You was a sweet, funny, unique and a little emotional romance. I adored the epilogue! This book is one of my favorite books by the author.

Penelope and Ryker are amazing characters. I loved Penelope from the start. Ryker took a little longer, but once I loved him, I loved him hard! Ryker is strong, determined, sporty, real, reliable and caring. He’s the quarterback of a college team and he loves playing it. He has great team mates. Ryker works hard, but he’s amazing at playing football and he wants to go pro.

Penelope is smart, kind, hardworking, honest and caring. She doesn’t care who Ryker is and she doesn’t mind telling him what she thinks of him. Penelope knows exactly what she wants to be later and she definitely has the fantasy for it. Penelope doesn’t have many friends, but she only has great friends! I especially loved her roommate and I want her to get her own book.

I Bet You is a slow burn romance. It takes a while before Ryker and Penelope are really together, but there was definitely enough chemistry and banter between them to want them together. Penelope is not the woman Ryker usually goes for, but he desperately wants her. Ryker would do anything for her and he can’t imagine being with someone else. Penelope never expected that Ryker would be attracted to her and she tries to keep her distant, but she could only fight against her feelings for so long. Penelope and Ryker are perfect for each other. They support and love each other. I loved them together!

I really love these college/football books (sorry Lorraine 🤭🤭).

It's always a bit cliche and you mostly knows what to expected and how things will end, but I just can't stop reading and get involved by their little dramas.

I was super excited about Ryker's book after finish I Dare You, because he was the bestest and supportive friend ever! He was there for Mav, even when his "appendage" were always messing with the wrong ladies.

Penelope is a fireball who doesn't give a shit about football players (so you already know where this is going to end). A red hair with a heart of gold and a lot of daddy issues.

I'll say that I got a little disappointed with Ryker's backstory. Since he was so present in Maverick's book, I expected the same in his own... Or at least some closure. But it was almost totally standalone on that matters. Just like the author's purpose.

I loved the MC and although their romance was a slow burn, their connection were pretty clear.
Ryker is a real babe after all.

Now I'm obsessed with Blaze and Charisma, so I have to read I Hate You.
😂🤷🏻‍♀️

Read as an audiobook🎧

I Bet You is a frenemies to lovers college romance between a bookworm heroine who is not afraid to say exactly what she thinks and a football-player hero who falls in love with her big mouth. While it wasn’t exactly original, the flirting was amazing and it made it worth the read.

Penelope (h) was ridiculous in a way I found funny, but I’d totally understand someone may hate. She was a romance reader taken to the extreme, always daydreaming -specially about Rycker fucking her.

He cocks an eyebrow. “What’s for dessert?”
My body flushes, picturing us in a small kitchen. My ass is planted on the bar, and I’m reclining back with my knees up and my panties pushed to the side. He’s got his jeans shoved down to his hips, grinding into me-

I was a bit annoyed about everything Rycker (H) did for her, when she was doing almost anything in return, but I tried to remember Rycker was Penelope’s fantasy more than an actual human being -that’s what usually happens in college romances. In fact, Rycker could have been perfect if he didn’t tend to solve problems with other members of his team by fighting. He was honest and straightforward -maybe too much

He shrugs. “Your best asset is your hair. You should wear it down more…” He pauses, his eyes roving over the wavy curls. “Every man who sees it down imagines his hands wrapped around those strands as he’s taking you from behind.

The highlight of the book was the flirting before they got together. They were so good and sexy! I was listening to all their teasing with a huge smile on my face because it was so good I couldn’t help it.

“You’re in an upper level math class when your major is psychology, so you must like numbers. Am I right?”
“Maybe I took it because I knew it was likely you’d be in there.”
I laugh. “You’re such a liar.”
“Well, then I guess it was fate that we both ended up in it.”

However, I also had some issues with the book:

↬The fighting (I hate people who solve everything by fighting)
↬Penelope was supposed to be a virgin but their first time having sex felt like a non-virgin having sex (what’s the point of having a virgin heroine if you are going to forget that when you write the scene?).
↬The ‘villain’ of the story was as plain as a table
↬The last part of the book felt like a soap opera. I was really close to dnf it because I didn’t like all the drama the author decided to add to the story. It was cliché and OTT.

Overall, let’s just say I had a lot of fun listening to the first part but the second part felt like a whole different book. I recommend it if you don’t mind drama and not-realistic characters in your college romances.

We already met QB Ryker in the first book. Now he gets his own story.

He's very interested in Penelope. Sweet, nerdy, bird-owner, vampire-fan, redhead Penelope who works at the diner.

But his football team's famous stupid bets get in the way of a possible romance. His 'buddies' bet he can't get her to sleep with him. She already found out about the first two bets about her - so how can he even begin to have something serious with her now?

description

It won't be easy - and the bets might destroy everything once Penelope and Ryker start really falling for each other ...

description

Such an adorable & funny story - with some serious/sad/interesting family problems thrown in.

It wasn't anything new really. I've read a million sexy and funny & heartbreaking sports romances. And even lots of those had a cute nerdy girl and a football team betting stupid bets that will lead to a fight towards the end. BUT - I love those books!!!! I love football and college romances. And this one was so sweet and funny and sexy and moving ... I loved Penelope and Ryker! And I hated Archer. What's his problem?? Ugh!

I really enjoyed reading this book! Finished it in one day .... Ryker was just too cute to resist! ☺

4 stars

I Bet You was a fun sports romance with a lot of heart! I love that our heroine was a booklover who was a fan of Twilight and all things vampires as well as being super smart. Ryker is the QB and Penelope really doesn’t love football players- she has her reasons. There is some betting and I liked the aspect of Penelope’s family in the book also. Overall this was a quick read and I enjoyed it lots!

Title: I Bet You (The Hook Up #2)
Author: Ilsa Madden Mills
Genre: Contemporary Romance, Sports

Guys,
The Hook Up series is honestly starting to be one of my favourite sports romance series.. I have  read I dare You numerous times. So, you can bet the fact that I have read I Bet You twice already since I received it.

I love the fact that the female protagonists in Ilsa Madden Mills The Hook Up series  are kinda nerdy, kinda weird and a whole lot like us (Girls who love to read books, obsess over fandoms and love romance books). We first met Delaney, my soul sister, in book 1, now we are introduced to another 'soul sister' aka Penelope Graham in book 2.

I can honestly say that Penelope and Ryker's story will give you life!
You can bet on the fact that Ilsa Madden Mills will deliver a book packed with witty banters, hilarious moments and sexy-fun situations.

Now, here's the thing, I loved Penelope but Ryker is a whole new species hahahaha
He is a typical jock.. cocky and full of himself (everything we want a jock to be in a sports romance right?). But underneath all the Jazz and air of 'Mr. Cool', Ryker is genuinely a nice person, super smart.. and has a heart of Gold.

Penelope and Ryker are a match made in Sports romance heaven!

So... Yes... I Bet You is a Swoon Fest.

From the very first book I read by Ilsa Madden-Mills I knew this author was super talented and would fast become one of my all time favourite authors. Her book captivated me and I couldn’t put it down and since then each new release has gotten better and better and now there’s this one, I Bet You. I’m so damn amazed at this book. I thought I Dare You (Book One in the series) was incredible but this one just shot right past every book and instantly become my very favourite book of hers. It was fun, sad, and angsty. It was the perfect combination for the perfect book. I’m so in awe right now and I freaking LOVE IT.

There wasn’t just one thing I loved about I Bet You it was everything, everything all meshed together perfectly to create the perfect book.

The main characters, Ryker and Penelope they were fun. Their interactions were so different to the typical romance book. Ryker is charming, sexy and fun. He’s your not your typical jock, he knows he’s gorgeous and could get any one he wants but he doesn’t, he wants the one woman who denies him, how fun! Penelope is a Nerd, she loves book and numbers. Give her a good romance book and she’ll be putty in your hand. She’s an amazing, strong woman, seeing her pull through the things she does is amazing. Put these two together and they make an incredible pair.

The Storyline oh my god. Not only is it a sports romance but a second chance romance, my favourite kind of book, sweet baby Jesus. I’m a puddle of mush right now gah. Like all second chance romance’ you expect the heartbreak and angsty shit but by god this one hit the heart so hard it shattered into tiny pieces because this couple is perfect and only deserve all the good things in life.

No matter how many words I write I just can’t seem to do this book justice enough, seriously. When a book has you at a loss for words that is when you know it’s a freaking AMAZING book. When that book whips you away from reality and sucks you into a whole new world you know it’s a phenomenal book, a book you won’t be forgetting anytime soon.

Ilsa Madden-Mills gripped me from the get go with I Bet You and I don’t want to let go, I want to revel in the moment with these two characters for a while longer. I feel like an addict right now, I need another fix of these two. This beauty is definitely up there on my top 2018 reads! I’ve got way too many feels going on right now. If I could rate this higher than five stars you bet your ass I would!

"I'm more of who I should be with you, and I promise you, I will never let you down like that again." He cups my face, his gaze intense. "You...are...everything."

OMG OMG OMG! Be still my heart! I just finished the most AMAZING book that I cannot stop thinking about and messaging everyone that I know is reading it right now. I am left with a serious book hangover and I am staking my claim as Ryker being my book boyfriend (back off ladies! ;)) Ilsa, you have hit it out of the park with this one- I Bet You has captured my heart and I am not sure I even want to recover from this amazing book.

Ryker and Pen's story is everything I love to read about in a New Adult book. Add in some football, and you pretty much have me hooked before I even open the thing. The chemistry between these two- do not even get me started- it was SIZZLING from the very beginning. I wanted every other person to back away and let their love blossom. I love nothing more than to read about a big jock who just wants love and when he finds it, he doesn't do much else but that. These two together are the stuff that romance books are all about!

All the little quirks of Penelope that Ilsa added in made this book even more amazing- from the suckers, to the lip balm, all those little things that make you giddy when you read- she gives them all to you! It was so much more than your typical nerd/jock hook up- you were rooting for them, you love them, and you want them to work. They are by far one of my most favorite couples that I have read about in 2018. Pen and Ryker for the win!

I can't give enough praise hands for this book- it was beyond amazing! I am gushing, I am swooning, and I am probably rambling, but this is how much I loved it! All I can ask is that you give this book a chance, that you promise me you will read it and I can pretty much guarantee that you will love it as much as I do! 5 full stars from me!

Gosh I love how this author writes sports romance. It's always smart, it's always funny and it's always HOT!!! I Bet You is the next standalone from one of my favourite one click authors & I definitely recommend.

QB1 Ryker Voss + a bet = big trouble for Virgin Penelope Graham.

One of my favourite things about this author is that she gives us heroines who know their mind, they may be shy or they may even be virgins but they're not easy pushovers. Add to that alpha guys that are not OTT. They are MEN, like MANLY MEN, that give us that yummy tummy feeling when a guy is all growly "MINE" over a girl, but they're also hardworking guys who understand consent, being a gentleman and just being decent.

Add in a kick ass group of best friends and you've got a believable college romance where you're wanting everyone to get their HEA and I already have a bunch of side characters I hope we're going to get more from.

If you're looking for a fun, smart read - this one's for you.

I received an arc of this book.

The GOOD:
Cute romance between 21yo college-student/waitress virgin h & 21yo popular college-quarterback H who resisted the bet a goading teammate made with the team re: H smexxing h by Homecoming night but didn't tell her about it until it was too late.

Witty & sometimes funny dialogue spurned on by snarky h's comebacks & put-downs of H's flirty/cocky “I know you want me”-assertions with h. Liked that H was celibate for the past 4 months since the college-newpaper article h wrote re: his & his BFF-teammate's involvement in illegal gambling was publicized coz part of his celibacy seemed to be due to his new fascination with h. Liked H's stalker-like secret obsession with h (i.e., he kept showing up at the diner she works at & asked for her as his waitress, he'd drive by her house that was out of the way from his) but nothing OTT. He was patient with h & even helped her approach her crush OM with dating tips & kissing h to make OM jealous.

MEH or the BAD:
Ok pacing/S chem/detailed S. Average character development in transforming somewhat-insecure introverted h into a more confident & outgoing person. And cocky manho H into a more focused/devoted/thoughtful boyfriend to h. He was a little too patient at times with h though & I understood that he was giving her the space to figure out her feelings for OM & for H by herself. Plus it gave her time to get to know H. But I wished H was more assertive in showing her he wanted her & wasn't going to just watch her fumbling flirting efforts with OM. H was overall a nice confident guy who was well-respected & liked by his teammates. He wasn't cruel to his female hanger-ons ("jersey chasers"). He just ignored them. Average emotionality with some funny moments. No angst.

Sexual History:
virgin h had been kissed & touched up to 2nd-base (boobs). H was a player who took what willing women offered him. But he'd been celibate for 4 months since h got to his radar & his football career in jeopardy due to h's newspaper article.

Sweet and sexy college football romances like I Bet You is why I love New Adult Books. The nerdy romance book loving heroine and the hot jock should not work together but they DO! The perfect blend of humor and swoon made this one enjoyable read.

The dynamics of Penelope's and Ryker's relationship were quite interesting. They start off as sort of enemies but then Ryker, as a peace offering, tries to help Penelope get a date with another guy she has had a crush on. I was slightly annoyed with Ryker for helping her get another guy when he was obviously into her but I got over that pretty quickly. So then they actually become friends but the chemistry between them cannot be denied and Penelope learns very quickly where her feelings lie. No worries, this is not a love triangle in any way.

The sexual tension between these two was off the charts! Ryker also turns out to have a swoon worthy romantic side. I will say I found the "You complete me" line a tad cheesy because only Jerry McGuire can pull that off. However, I really did love what a sweet boyfriend he was. If watching twilight doesn't show you care then I don't know what will.

Dumb male adolescent behaviour is thrown into the mix when Ryker is offered a bet by his fellow teammates that will undoubtledly hurt Penelope if she finds out. This added some mild angst to the story and I enjoyed watching this play out. I loved the traces of humor in this book! A parrot who likes to curse, unicorn glitter lotion, a fascination with chest hair and terms like titlets really pull this book all together.

If you're looking for a fun, light college romance with humor and swoon, go check this one out!

I wasn't much impressed with book 1 I dare you
but I was pleasantly surprised by this one, though

Ryker Voss is
Mr. Golden Boy Quarterback of Waylon University

and if you are NOT into college romances, then well don't go into it...

BUT somehow this turned out ot be not your USUAL college stereotype romance...

sure, the very blurb doesn't give you any hint that it wouldn't be your typical romance you are used to...sure, there's a BET involved, and sure, there's also a jock and a "not your everyday type" girl jocks fall for...BUT then again, Ryker isn't quite your typical jock either LOL

And now, that I have successfully managed to complicate this NOT that complicated story LOL, this is still a college romance with not so typical characters, lots of wit and sympathic humor, a bit of misunderstanding kinda stirs up the waters a bit but it all ends in a well expected HEA...

and yet, I loved how it was all mixed well, it was light, it was funny, it had a bit of drama, yet it wasn't overdone, it wasn't immature or lame or cheesy...all in all, I'm pleased!

DNF @12%

I usually enjoy Ilsa Madden-Mills's books but this one felt off from the very first pages. The starting was really rushed, it felt like some pages were missing from my book. I thought I should continue reading it but it didn't get better and I was confused because of the number of characters that were introduced.

I don't want to spend more time on this book so I won't continue reading it.
