The best scent ever made. A summer frag that lasts 8 hours plus.

You need to be okay with soil. Sweet, tangy loam. If you like a nice loam soil scent, you will love this.

Drydown is an apple soap via the vanilla/sandalwood/musk base. With little hints of that soil popping up now and again.

I can't understate how optimistic and happy this is. It makes me smile until my face hurts and sometimes it brings a tear to my eye. Literally. This is ART.

WeezyPipes

There are many fragrances people say smell like the forest floor, this one actually does - and in a very classy, masculine way. I bought the sample collection and was surprised this was a highlight while many I had been excited about were duds. I think you need to dress up a little for the smell to be interpreted correctly, otherwise people may think you live in the woods or something.

I think Panda would appeal to fans of Hermes in particular, it has the earthiness from the TDH line and the vegetal greenness from the H24 line. It's in that same mature, dry, classy wheelhouse but even less apologetic about it. I might need a bottle.

nobookclub

Vegetal, bitter, grassy opening, a little bit citrusy, with a strong urinal undertone. Dries down via earthy floral and bamboo notes. I don’t get apple or tea, no crispiness or lightness, just overwhelmingly animalic. The vanilla in the base is overshadowed by the civet and musk. Masculine leaning, good longevity, aptly named. Interesting and unique.

AikoKoji

The opening is bright and interesting, and then it quickly reveals its nauseating floral and soil assault. I can appreciate the uniqueness and artistic qualities of the layers to this one, but it is just too much for me. And yes, it's a beast performer, you cannot wash this off your skin once it's on.

KingKaris

The smell of rich fertile soil as it grows apples, oranges, and bamboo! Once it drys down and the musk, vanilla and sandalwood set in its what I imagine cuddling a great smelling panda bear would be like!

vipariously

Forgettable generic masculine perfume. Poor longevity.

Doesn't have earthy notes or tea, which was disappointing.

Tshahb

Bad.

Death by geosmin, very strong, too much.

SofiaTeddy

A green apple amplified by very strong floral, ozonic but above all earthy scents. Just like the other Zoologist creations that aim to recreate the smell of a natural habitat, "Panda" also manages to seduce with its wooded and hyper-photorealistic appearance. Very very cute!

The opening of Panda is glorious and very memorable- green, dewy, and ozonic with a slight edge of bitterness. It calls to mind a verdant mountainside in early spring, covered with dew. On me this lasts about 40 minutes before transitioning into an equally green but much more flowery phase that manages to be a super fresh white floral, a rare feat. Perhaps this is the same mountain side a few hours later, with the sun warming everything and the flowers beginning to release their scent into the moist air. The dry down is less magical, it becomes sort of a bland ambery woody scent lacking any of the juicy fresh greenery from it’s open. Still nice but I wish the green had stuck around. It lasts at least 8 hours. I’d call it completely unisex. The first few hours of this are a revelation, and so beautiful and interesting.

So butthole is an actual note, OMG! I honestly loved!! All of these .

squarewunder

one of my favourites in the zoologist line, i love the smell and its oddly nostalgic, the green apple is definetly smellable and id compare it to a slight note of greenley

My Spring 2024 mainstay for sure. I'm revisiting most Zoologist perfumes because over 3 years, my nose has involved after exploring, collecting and wearing so many perfumes. I remember Panda being one of the ones I liked back then but it was that, a "like", not love. Fast-forward 3 years, this is fantastic. Bright, green, floral and uplifting. Perfect for Spring and I'm sure it'll do great in cooler Summer days and the first warmer days of Fall. Surprising, this has a lot of staying power. I get a good 4-5 hours where I catch frequent whiffs of it when I move and then it sticks closer to skin a good 8+ hours.

I've seen some describe this as "wet", I can kind of understand that. I'd say Panda isn't so "wet" to me (Dragonfly is, and Bat too but for different reasons). Panda is rather very green. The tea note is very present here. The opening is very fresh and while there's the sweetness of apple here that might remind of YSL Y, the tea and flowers give it a fizzy brightness that might be a bit off-putting to some guys. I personally love that about it. The tea and magnolia is beautiful. The tea note sticks around and turns greener with bamboo as it dries down. Towards the end, it gets slightly smoky and woodier but although civet is listed in the notes, it never sticks out and plays more of a support role here.

I'm very fond of this one. You won't offend many people with this, it's very clean and fresh. There's a minority of people (including my own mother, haha) that might get fixed on the earthy side and find it "weird" and "black soil"-like (to paraphrase her) but in general, people tend to enjoy this one around me.

Perrynelson777

At first I get a little of the apple, tea, and earthy notes. Shortly after I mostly get patchouli, osmanthus, and musk. It reminds me of the signature Quentin Bisch smell, just toned down. This kind of patchouli and osmanthus smell had always given me a bubble gum vibe. This one's ok, it's not one of my personal favorites. I can see people liking this one though.

pizzy2wizzy

An absolutely incredible green fragrance with a wet and earthy twist for me it was love at first sniff Ideal for spring 9.5/10

Scratch & Sniff

When I first tried this scent, I couldn’t stand it and considered scrubbing it off. Then I revisited my sample a few weeks later, and I couldn’t stop sniffing my wrist. Upon closer study, Panda is slightly reminiscent of Seahorse – one of my all-time favorite Zoologist fragrances – except this bottle trades the coral reefs for the bamboo fields.

This is as bright, airy and as green as they come. I can imagine sitting in that gentle bamboo field as a breeze pushes past, and the sun pierces through the bamboo stalks. Panda is an extremely wearable fragrance that’s best sprayed in the dew of spring or the high heat of summer – ideally during daytime road trips through green fields and deep ravines.

I think what was originally so off-putting to me was the apple note. I normally feel the same way about artificial apple scents that my stomach does appletinis: nauseating and vomit-inducing. But there’s more nuance to this fragrance than merely apples. As it turns out, comparing this fragrance to just apples is like comparing apples to…well, you see where this is going. Perhaps it’s the bamboo and the earthy notes that make this more complex, although I’m mildly embarrassed to admit that I don’t know what bamboo smells like. I guess…this?

There is also something distinctly 90s about this fragrance. Maybe it’s the inherent youthfulness of the scent, which some reviewers described as shampoo for teenagers. But let’s be real: the 90s were cooler than this decade and so, as the 90s kids used to say, put that in your pipe and smoke it.

I need to sit and frolic with this Panda a bit longer. I don’t know yet if it’s full bottle worthy, as the apple might still be too overpowering for me, but I have been quite charmed upon meeting it for a second time…even though it wasn’t originally a Pan-DUH for me.

In five words or less: Bam, boo, this is delicious.

kcp

Shockingly bad and genuinely upsetting. This is just any generic mens cologne. It smells like shaving cream and that's it.

JBirb

I like a lot of perfumes from this house, but this one, while by no means unpleasant, doesn’t work for me. Starts off with a blast of tart, fairly realistic apple, after a few minutes this mingles with a fresh green tea note. There’s a vague greenness underneath - I get the earthiness only a little, there’s a bit of minty-ness possibly from patchouli, but mostly it stays a watery fruity tea perfume. Reminds me more of a shampoo marketed for teenagers than of a tangible place in nature, like the better zoologist perfumes manage to evoke.

Whateverwhocares

Complex, tart, dark fruit compost on a bed of mixed wood. Deep and thought provoking. Certainly an acquired taste. Original animalic musk that's equally odd and pleasing. Challenging for sure, but manageable.

Has a frozen makeup overtone that almost bought this Panda 🐼 a 😐 rating, but the quality is there so I went for a 🙂. 👍

moyashi

Opening is very earthy with fruity and floral notes in the background
Fresh green and earthy sillage which is fresh and grounding
Up close it's juicy fruity apple and tangerine
Florals and woody base which on the other hand make it happy and uplifting

Silverfang

A bit pricey but with zoologist you will get a very unique scents.. Panda is a realistic bamboo scent.. soapy clean and very lively in the heat.. love it!

Billford420

Very nice easily wearable, nice green apple opening, smooth clean drydown with a hint of sandalwood, not getting any animalic funk or soil. In fact most of the mid and base notes listed aren’t present on my skin.
With that said it can easily blend in with other blue designer fragrances.
I’d rather not pay niche prices for a designer type scent, especially when designers are sold at discount online.

missile414

This is a bamboo fougére! But blended so well and has an interesting freshly turned soil facet that allows one to admire it and meditate on the life a panda could lead. I like it.

Nadia1401

This smells like a generic men’s cologne from the early 2000s. I can’t remember which one, but as soon as I smelled it I was turned off by the association. I imagined Panda to smell more like what Elephant smells like.

The only other Zoologist to disappoint me as much as Panda is the current Dragonfly, which smells like a generic women’s perfume from the early 2000s.

Josu01

Panda is a perfume that adapts very well to the Summer heat. It opens with a fruity, green and earthy scent.

The apple is clearly perceived in the opening combined with other fruits contrasting with the ozonic notes, the white flowers and osmanthus. The slightly dirty and earthy heart is made up of patchouli, earthy notes, bamboo and orris.
The civet and musk in the base are balanced by the creaminess of sandalwood and vanilla.

Very fresh, pleasant and easy to wear. Amazing longevity on my skin, good sillage for the first couple of hours. The projection of the perfume is not beast mode, but it is noticed in bursts that come and go. I like the sweet-earthy combination. Panda is very unisex and ideal from spring to autumn.

Frenchghost

This smells like cage 💩poo from a 🐼 not wearable, the animalic note just is way to strong, this leans more masculine or Feminine?, Its a wild beast breathing heavy he's biting into a juicy green apple,he's rolling in the fresh earthy soil🌿 your getting a breeze of wind of panda 💩 poo, your at the zoo,you go home&try a shower to get the cage smell of an animal from your trip off&the scent gets stronger, lol, this Is a beast as a very noticeable skin scent ,after 6hrs I showered&it's still very noticeable, I scrubbed my forearm&wrists with lathers&lathers of soap,be aware, once you go in this panda poo cage it's really hard to get off!!! This is way too realistic of a zoo exhibit& panda 💩 ,I'm sorry I don't see this wearable, I appreciate how realistic this creation is,just my opinion this wasn't done in a wearable way I guess❌️ lasts forever on skin may take days to get off skin, glad i sampled 1st,cuz i almost got a fb without smelling😱Please sample 1st,good 🤞 luck

theinvisibleman

Smells like dirt with a musk/fruit theme. Its nice but its not for me. Its ofc male leaning. This smells fancy, it invokes the same feeling as beaver from the same house but beaver does it better because of the aquatic/ozonic notes.

Again, really nice but not for me because beaver does it better, I'd wear it at a wedding or some other formal/suit function. This beats beaver in longevity by far probably has something to do with it being extrait while beaver isnt.

Its a very classy smelling perfume, again, like beaver, but the earthiness is not for me. It truly smells like wet dirt mixed with nice smelling fruits/greens.

spritzspritz

On me: bright green and earthy. I love an apple note and wish I could detect it here. It also has a SHARP animalic edge that is...tolerable. Fits the name. It can feel light if applied with a light touch. Acutely motivating. However, to me, Panda is definitely not for wearing out; I wouldn't want to foist it on unsuspecting strangers.

On my husband: urinal, urinal, urinal, some green notes, a little dirt, and more urinal. Very sharp and unpleasant.

CAF911

You have to really like earthy soil notes to enjoy this.

I want to like it, but the earthiness just overwhelms everything. This is in the same league as the original Bat in terms of wearability. Maybe someone can pull this off, it’s not me.

Zoffe

Truly unpleasant on my skin, unfortunately. Everything was completely overpowered by wet dirt. Had to scrub it off, which very rarely happens. Might have applied too much, so will try again. When I dare to. Because wow.

thongvm2711

Clean green apples with moist soil. The pleasant, airy scent envelops the musk inside.
Not too much special, a bit disappointed by too many notes. Maybe the smoothness kept me from noticing them, or they were too few.

actual-working-nose

urine note... again with zoologist and urine notes/accords :/

RhettB27

Felt compelled to leave a review 1 minute into smelling this one off the blotter, wow. Apple, tea, green and fresh with light animalic facets…done just beautifully. The earthy notes and planty bamboo definitely come out more as it settles with gorgeous and lush florals supporting. The ozonic quality is also apparent off the top and stays to bolster the overall freshness of the composition. The earthiness helps pull this one masculine as it’s overall a more feminine offering imo, but it’s just gorgeous and could work on anybody. Has an elegance to it and I definitely see the resemblances to frags like Coco Mademoiselle as mentioned by others, but it has a more masculine quality to it with more interesting layers and overall depth. What a curveball and surprise so far into my Zoologist samples, lining up to be a sure favorite. Sucker for a great tea note and this apple/tea combo is killer, will update if anything big changes.

kpop_stan

I'm so confused by this fragrance. The top notes are absolutely DELIGHTFUL and as it settles the sweetness gives way to something earthy but still light (the bamboo, no doubt). Unfortunately soon after everything falls apart and it becomes a dark, spicy, musky men's cologne-type scent. This and Koala have a startlingly similar progression once the top notes fade out, though this is definitely more pleasant - Koala ends up smelling like Tiger Balm.

It's not BAD by any means, just far more masculine leaning than I was expecting... I wish Zoologist would drop the "everything we release is unisex" schtick because it's just not true.

With that said, I'd 100% buy this for a male friend/family member. In fact I plan to save up and get this for my dad as something extra special if he likes my sample I'm going to give him :)

brand117

Oh, yes. Panda- my love. Green, sweet, and woody/musky. I would always get compliments on this one since it was so different, yet still approachable. Absolutely nuclear in its earlier iterations, no more than a spray or two was necessary to last all day.

perseeque

I love my Mr. Panda! Surprised with the negative reviews. It opens with typical soil/earthy/overriped-fruit Zoologist notes but very quickly develops into something similar to Chanel Chance/Coco MDMSL. Coco stage takes about 3-4 hours; it's more complex and 3D than Chanel's one. Then the apple and fresh notes come in and stay on top of Chance notes making this scent very enjoyable. It's clean yet sexy and vibey. I admit that initial spray could be a bit dump but it fades away quickly and leaves you with a very elegant fresh juice. Bonus - it has a subtle chypre aspect in it and it's magnificent. Also longevity is astonishing for a fresh frag.

LinnyBot

Wet dirt and fresh bamboo, or a garden that has just gotten some rain, but there's also an underlying sweetness - almost smells more pond-esque than Dragonfly does, like actual pond water or algae without waterlily (wonder if they would layer nicely).

Updated: That green bamboo and apple really pair so nicely with the dirt, and as it dries down - hours later, it sweetens up to the base, cutting through some of the sharpness but never losing its essence or completely changing from that wet bamboo apple orchard scent. Love it, definitely need a full bottle. Easily my perfect signature scent in hot weather.

AlecGutteridge

In my book the newer version of Panda is more wearable and agreeable than the 2014 formulation, but is lacking in terms of originality. I find myself smelling like apple shampoo, and that's not a smell that I personally enjoy to have lingering about me throughout my day. 6.5/10

ckorp8

There’s tea? Yes. Potting soil? Yes also. Like it? Not really. No apple detected either. Just okay for me.

Edit. Dry down after a few hrs is more likable but still poting soil like.

Edit. Revisiting this after a bit more than a year. The apple is now very prominent. Wonder where it was hiding the last time I sprayed. Anyway I upped it to ‘like’ since I still can hardly stand the potting soil note.

Caldrumr

This is a no for me.
Mildly interesting in the opening, but quickly fades into a chemical mess that reminds me a lot of YSL Y EDP.
This doesn't do the brand justice. I am not a fan.

MaxillaryMary

DKNY Be Delicious plus Potting Soil? It's very energizing. It's optimistic. It's fruity and playful. It's a panda cub.

This is a very unique fragrance that lasts forever. I do recommend trying it first, because if you don't like it, you will be stuck with it all day. It expensive, because you just need one spray and it lasts. It's a unique fragrance that I do think is easy to enjoy, but I don't think everyone would want to wear it. That wet dirt note that's artfully blended in makes it not feel not generic. It gives it an intriguing edge.

I blind bought a travel spray. I don't regret it. I have to be in the mood to wear it (although that applies to all my fragrances), but my partner wears it more often than I do and every time she does, I'm so happy I bought it.

OnTheNose1982

It’s so much harder to do a review of a perfume I love than ones I’m either meh about or dislike because I’m challenged to actually pick apart why I love it. Usually I just put it in because I know I love it and rock it on a day where I don’t want to think about what I’m wearing. So I love Panda (new formulation - found the old one less complex with lots of bamboo and more green).

I’m wearing it today on the first day of spring when the weather actually feels like spring. Immediate it is green, with some white flowers peaking in and a creamy animalic base. It’s super well blended so I have to go in eyes closed for another sniff to get the resinous tree sap and wet earth that’s reminiscent of Bat from this house. To me it’s fresh without having any citrus or aquatic notes in it, which is how most fresh perfumes achieve that. The freshness might come from the apple and tea, but I can’t pick up those notes on their own.

This lasts all day on me! It’s an extrait de parfum which is the more concentrated than eau de parfum. Even strong rose/Oud perfumes often disappear on me so I appreciate a fresh scent that I don’t have to reapply.

It’s by far my favourite Zoologist because not only is it interesting, but it’s actually very wearable.

I don’t recommend perfumes in my reviews because it’s such a personal item and your skin chemistry makes a huge difference. So while I love this, it doesn’t mean you will too, but I can’t resist saying if you want a fresh green earthy perfume with a zing, pick up a tester!

Kadafi

I love Panda 2017, I just wish it wasn't so expensive ! £165 for 60ml bottle! If it was closer to £100 for 60ml bottle then I would be happy wearing this everyday. I get some earthy green, fruits mixed in with a tropical vibe, just lifts up my mood. The bottle is so cool looking with the amazing panda artwork, I just need to find a replacement bottle at a reasonable price.

Picture a world with no pollution or humans damaging the planet, pandas just sitting in a jungle surrounding by bamboo and fruits .

EDIT UPDATE

Price here in the UK has increased to £175 for 60ml bottle, yes its a nice pleasant scent but its way overpriced . Let me do the calculations :-

175÷60 = £2.91 per ml so a standard 100ml bottle of this stuff would be a mind blowing £291 . I would say its fair market value is half this price at £145 for 100ml . For this reason, I can't possibly recommend buying this fragrance.

Auburenite

I must be crazy because all I smell at the opening is pineapple, almost a piña colada like combo. The freshness is very bright and clean but also tropical. The base later has scents of bamboo or pale green heart woods. I don't know if I get animalistic panda but I definitely feel pandan in this scent but slightly more tart. The panda on the image is wearing a tux but I'm not sure I'd wear this one during fancy occasions, maybe smart casual.

muscshamal

I wanted to like this but it smells a bit too artificial 'apple' scented toiletry product for my taste... It does however last a long time and has strong projection. So I suppose if you were looking for an apple liquid soap or shampoo scent that lasted on your skin, this is it.

bitterRed

I like the opening of Panda. On me it's a modern fruity-floral that's complex and well-blended. The apple is there but doesn't dominate, it mixes well with the florals. The ozone/water seems to bring out the ripeness of the fruit and the more heady qualities of the florals. As the opening progresses, there's a hint of something underneath that starts out almost spicy, but then evolves into an animalic/earthy edge.

As Panda progresses the excellent amber heartnotes begin to emerge, and I get a slight soapiness. There's something familiar about this amber accord, perhaps I've encountered it in a Guerlain? I enjoy the progression of this fragrance, it gives me plenty to think about.

After a few hours I start getting a mossy edge to this, and my favorite point in this perfume is when the amber fades and the oakmoss comes forward so there's a balance of the two. I agree with the reviewer who said this is more a chypre than an oriental, a modern, fruity-floral chypre without the powdery notes that often make chypres seem so vintage.

Eventually the moss is what lingers through to the next day. Something about my skin amplifies oakmoss, and here I find it addictive. I spritz Panda before bed just so I can wake up to a mossy dreamland. The base accords of this perfume are among the most enjoyable in my collection.

I got the full set of Zoologist samples, and Victor included a handwritten note plus a bonus sample of the newest release, the lovely tuberose-marine Seahorse. The set worked well for me - some of the options that I thought were going to be great didn't work at all, and others that I never would have gravitated to have become favorites. My favorites in the line are Panda and Sloth. Both are wearable yet unique, modern and truly evocative of the story that goes with them. Honorable mentions go to Beaver (leather jacket left at the Lake House), Bat (dark and fruity), Rhinoceros (gorgeous room-filling tobacco), and Nightingale (delicate Japanese chypre).

DiscoPolga

The opening was off-putting for me...smells a bit fecal, I'm wondering if my nose is picking up civet straight from the start. It settles after a few minutes, goes into something sweet and sweaty. The middle reminds me of rotten fruit, smells like a more hardcore version of "I am trash" by ELdO. I much prefer "I am trash", as it doesn't have the animalic qualities.

BassWurst

Starts with a strong impression of rotten apples, continues fruity in Erba Pura manner and ends with indolian jasmine. Not really my cup of tea...

Kaleidosaur

Oh wow! What an oddball! Initially, there's a blast of green apples; it almost reminds me a bit of DKNY Be Delicious (for a few short seconds). As it settles on the skin, it keeps a bit of that freshness, but it also turns really earthy. There is also something skanky and dirty in there. I feel like this is a piece of perfume art, but I don't want to smell like this!

Fragaddict123

I can smell the green apple in the opening
It radiates for a while then it becomes a skin scent
It’s definitely unique but not excellent
Longevity could’ve been better for a extract de perfume
The opening is the best part of the fragrance and I didn’t like it on skin
The positive thing is it’s wearable not alike a lot from the brand sadly not worth buying a full bottle

Riverwind79

Just omg! So in love with the scent! I just got a 5ml decant from a seller as he said the perfume smell can be a bit challenging and its better I try a decant before I make the decision to get a full bottle. Moreover, its not cheap. I really enjoy fruity green opening. Its a very pleasant scent and totally gonna get full bottle of it!

ikea pencil

Eating candied apple during the first rainfall of the season in a tea and bamboo garden.

There's 3 main notes: A sweet candy-like apple, a dirty animalic soil and a green accent note. The apple here is very sharp and crisp. Because of the tea supporting note this comes off like apple scented shampoo? If you focus on just the sweetness though this almost tastes like a synthetic apple flavor they have in some candy. The middle note here is a nice animalic dirt-like note. It has that Petrichor vibe where the all the air comes out of the ground and it's a little wet. This is my favorite note in the perfume! It's almost smokey in a way. Lastly there's a strange green accent here that holds up the Apple but also comes into its own. It stems from bamboo, patchouli and a little bit of tea.

From the art I *think* this is meant to be a nice gentlemanly scent but the Apple+Tea combination gives this an awful cheap soapy quality that's really hard to overlook if you've smelled it before. Moreover the Apple is way too sweet. The base here smells amazing and of very high quality. It's a shame the top notes ruin it.

At a quick whiff the Apple can come off as a nice manly deodorant though as a perfume this is "eh". It's not amazing but not offensive either. I'd love to see Zoologist reformulate -- removing the tea cranking down the sweetness.

Tolkashutka

Apple, "earth" (soil & patchouli), and musk.

Didn't know Pandas were fans of Granny Smith apples, but you learn something new every day. ;)

In all seriousness, it opens up with a very zingy green apple, much like a fresh Granny Smith. Not usually a huge fan of apple notes in perfumes, but this is very agreeable. The apple dominates the composition for most of the opening, but then as it begins to dry down, a really nice musky soil & patchouli accord emerges. This accord plays surprisingly nice with the apple, which sticks around for most of the wearing.

It's a solid "like" from me on scent alone, but I don't like it enough to immediately add a full bottle to my collection. Additionally, while it's a nice scent, I don't like it enough to pay full retail asking price, which brings my overall vote down a notch to a very strong "ok" instead. As with the other Zoologist scents that I've tried, longevity is a strong 8-9 hours, firmly placing it into the "long-lasting" category. Ah, screw it, Panda--based on your longevity, you've earned your "like".

Of the three Zoologist samples that I've tested (18 more to go!), I like Panda more than Elephant, but not as much as I (really) like Sloth.

Current ranking: Sloth > Panda > Elephant

StrawberryMoonFox

First impressions were "green, fresh, light and fruity"- the apple really shines through at first. After a while it started to dry into a clean, fruity, floral vanilla. I have tried 16 Zoologist perfumes (testing them in alphabetical order) and this is in my top 2 favourite. It smells like clean candy cologne on my skin. It may be the only one I'm 100% buying a bigger bottle of.

It opens with strong green apple note, which I find it to be rather artificial, but as it develops you will get some dirty animalic earthy smell. I didn't get any tea nor bamboo notes at all. The performance is really good - my girlfriend who was sitting on the other side of the table can smell it even applied hours ago. I wouldn't think of a panda after smelling this, but if it was the other way round, then you could see how it represents pandas.

A word of caution, be careful with the amount of spray and go light - this stuff is so potent, a spray too much will send you down for a nausea.

ntlzhng

I love tea and fresh fruit scents, so I was really excited. I expected the scent to be clean, fresh, and gentle. I'm a person who is fine with intimate projection, and this scent was much louder than I expected. It opens with a sharp, screechy green apple and soap smell, and then dries down into a very different, woody/earthy scent that gave me generic cologne deja vu. The three zoologist perfumes I tried were absolutely unique and metamorphic when they hit the skin, but definitely a bit too strong for me.

NDStars

First blast of sweet light fresh wet greens, like springtime in a bottle. I imagine a cool foggy morning in a bamboo forest in China. There is a darker ticklish earthy element that keeps the crisp airy green from floating away. To my nose, the sweetness comes from a strange fruity floral combination.. it's hard to define exactly which fruit and flower. An all-around sweetness I suppose but this is the far from generic. Lovely! The projection isn't too far from skin level; hopefully the performance isn't as ethereal as it smells. Unisex but leans feminine and best for spring and warmer weather.

6+ hours later: On my skin, this scent did not stick at all and hopefully it's just bc my skin was dry. The sweet green is very faintly there and was mostly gone by the 3rd hour.

JToronto

This is the reformulated (2017) version; I did not get a chance to try the original. Very sharp green and wood, a harsh smell that tickles the nose, then green apple. Very clean and astringent, would make a good bath gel. Softens to a woodier green. Unisex. I gave it 6/10. Not planning to purchase, but I'll finish off my sample. Good for work or casual wear.

MrEleven1181

Panda 🐼 starts off with apple and tea with apple being quite dominant for the first hour. Problem is the apple scent is more like apple candy sweets than an actual apple, so I didn’t particularly like the opening but after the amber comes through and thats the dominant note on the dry down. The amber is nice and i did enjoy the dry down on this fragrance. Performance around 6 hours and skin scent for me.

Panda 2----2017
Tested from spray sample.

This is a "complex" one, IMO.
First spritz is strong...then the notes develop on the skin....
I call this "semi-fruity green" type scent...???
I get the apple/tea/floral....and underneath there is earthiness...
This goes thru changes on my skin....in a good way....
I actually do whiff a tad of Coco Mad in this.....weirdly...lol....but just for seconds....
I am enjoying this so far !!
Unique,,,IMHO.
Good...good performance/sillage too.

a7_mad1991

🐼 Im in love!
The green mix apple, tea, magnolia and others creates a jade aura that is very interesting and attention grabbing.
Very versatile, the scent subtly changes every 20 minutes ! Keeps it exciting
Definitely a must have for my collection! Finally something new and different !

Gobtholemew

This perfume is STRONG!

I don’t really get any apple scent from this. It kind of smells like bitter laundry soap, if that makes sense.

After it dries down it smells faintly of vanilla.

Kind of gave me a headache, not gonna lie.

BaySense

Ok, I've now fully recovered from COVID, it seems. This is very nice. Nothing challenging about it.

I get the fruity apple bomb with florals and tea in the opening. Slight greenness, slight earthiness as it dries down. Very fresh.

Vitodito

Panda smells so good to me.
A combination of apple/tea/bambu with a very slight earthy touch.

I feel this is just an attractive sexy perfume, although its price is veeery bad!

Sprayer is one of the best in the market

At least no weird smell here, but just a sexy attractive fresh fragrance

Bubbles1964

The performance of Panda cannot be denied. I could still smell it more than 16 hours later, but it’s not nice in any way. All I can smell is a synthetic, tart green apple mixed with hair dye and a pine car freshener. It’s headache inducing.

This is the newer version, the 2017 extrait de parfum. The best thing about this is the name, Panda, and wonderful Zoologist artwork on the label.

Annabear

I received a sample of the newer version from one of the distributors here in Australia. Although I can see the merit in Panda and the art in the execution, this is not for me.
Humid soil smell, with a compost vibe - not at all dirty but definitely that wet earth hit following on from a strong alcoholic barber shop opening. For the next 15 minutes or so, that earth went from damp to dry creating a dusty quality to the fragrance. I was anxious for it to wear off. I can see how others would like it, there is clear mastery in the composition. It’s just not my style.
If you’re looking for a bamboo green fragrance with rice notes, I don’t believe this is it and you should try it first.
Thanks for reading.

jero

here new Panda the bamboo note is missing, but written on the package the bamboo is still one of notes... the heart note.

Koala of Zoologist is a koala in chewing its food the eucalyptus, here Panda 2017 what the panda is chewing so greeny I don't think it's its food the bamboo, neither do I take it simply as a green apple I would even dare to bite, the green thing is so energetic beyond man's comprehension, or it's the intensive osmanthus flavoured green tea constently dipping from corners of the mouth... this kind of synthesis keeps me exciting.

maybe it's the green note with some of the resins or earthy materials. powerful sillage, Panda 2017 is recognizable to people, making me declare today I'm a happy walking panda, come to give me a HUG!

the longevity is superior. I believe before the reformation Panda was more at easy, chewing in its daily routine. PS: the incredible green performs best on the clothes.

SmellMyCheese

Opens with a fresh aspect that is green and watery, but also a very effervescent green apple like note, which is unfortunately for me quite scratchy.

I guess this was done to get the fresh cut bamboo accord but this doesn't quite work for my nose, it smells quite synthetic and I find a lot of overlap with YSL Y edp which I also didn't enjoy too much.
I do like the earthy aspects though and a bit of the tea note you can feel drifting in.

Don't get me wrong this is far from a scrubber, and I see why people really like this but this is one Zoologist that is not for me; I'm much more of a T-Rex kind of person.

ts4r

A delight to wear with each pump of the atomizer.

Fresh green apples, wood and earthy notes with a strong a prominent musk. The musk is so good and carries the green apple very nicely., I get almost zero Civet in this, but I can smell something that hints at it.

This was a sample which turned to a travel size and then a full bottle.

I'm so glad to finally own it.

Longevity 10
Projection 8
Quality vs Price 10
Uniqueness 10 (It absolutely does not remind me of any perfume)

edit: it borrows the musk accord used in Erba Pura, Le Capital, but it's very muted. I couldnt notice it until I had both perfumes beside each other.

Simmy73

Panda 2017 is amazing! A wonderful, powerful and long-lasting green, tart, fresh, floral & slightly earthy fragrance. The opening is very green and tart, and contains a wet soil note which never disappears (and is never very prominent either, it is perfectly blended). As it develops, the tartness is toned down a bit, and the florals come alive in the middle of the green, wet and soily notes. It is pretty unique: the only perfume I have smelt with some similarities, at least in the opening, is Nishane's Hacivat (although that one doesn't have the soil note). It lasts quite long and projects substantially for at least a couple of hours. Second only to Camel in my Zoologist list, and among my top 20 ever, for sure.

thinkingover

Panda somehow comes across with similar opening to Bat. Very strong and earthy. Then the next note is different. Feels a little like mixture of something medicinal/herbal and some leather. It is just not a fragrance that brings you joy or comfort. Overpowering and strange.

Victorchachi

If you want to get a feel of what this smells like at a fraction of the price, try Zara's Cool Heighs, since they both share that strong intensive apple note in their composition, that stays throughout their longevity. However, this one right here uses that accord to its most elegant capabilities, giving you a comforting sweet smell, without being nauseating at all, something which Zara's one could end up being.

Sillage in this is pretty good, and I can still smell this on me a couple of hours with no effort from my side. It is more feminine than masculine, and a perfect blend of sweet and green. Overall performance is fantastic (+8 hours).

For some reason I did not like it that much at first, and the reason may be that I smelled a lot of Zoologist perfumes at once and did not really leave room for this to stand out on his own, but I'm glad I did, since this is just magnificent.

It's one of the few Zoologist perfumes, maybe along with Macaque, that doesn't have a strong resemblance to the chosen animal. This is the last thing I picture when I think of how panda's habitat may smell like. To me this smells like the wardrobe of a really famous celebrity from the 50s.

7/10.

jerryyanis

'Panda (2017)' was a love at first sniff for me. It has that artistic touch, but also manages to be very appealing. It's got a great combination of fruity green apple with earthy notes and tea. The earthy notes in this aren't a dry earth; there's a sense of moisture, almost as if the soil has been freshly watered. I never got a chance to smell the original formulation, so I can't compare the two, but this is a great release. For a fresh green fragrance, the performance is outstanding.

meg0825

Unfortunately, Panda is not for me. The opening is very similar to Bat with the earthy soil notes, but I think these notes are much stronger and last longer in Panda. Panda also features lots of crisp tart apples and musk. It's just too sour for me. There are only a few apple fragrances that I really enjoy. Oh well, they can't all be winners. I love Zoologist though. One of my favorite houses.

acoolguyab

Do NOT blind buy this perfume. You may regret it. I bought a product from Zoologist and got a sample of Panda. I watched famous YouTubers reviewer this perfume. I thought it must be great. Unfortunately, those reviewers received this fragrance for free so they lied. If you wanted to know how this perfume smelled like, you should go to a garden store and bought a bag of dirt and then you would rub your hands with the dirt and smell your hands. Yep, it smelled like dirt. I would not buy this fragrance if it was under $50. It is $210 CAD for a 60 ml bottle.
My ¢5 advice is do NOT buy it.

floydwellian

Oh no! I really wanted to like this one. I love Elephant, but if I have the right sample Panda smells like an outdated, sharp aftershave from a barber shop on my skin. I like LOTS of unisex fragrances but this is not my jam.

Back to Elephant...

Khalid11

The opening is little sharp and green I didn't like it but after the dry down I like it.

AMajeedQT

Green, fresh, floral, musky, dirty.

Panda is one of the better & more appealing scents from Zoologist.

It's a fresh & green fruity apple scent, with a mild white floral tone, & dirty musky "earthy notes" accord that smells like dirt with a mild barnyard-y stink.

This whole green fresh fruity musky scent is pulled down by the stink of the earthy note. It would've been much better at lesser amount of it, or even without it.

And yet, Panda is still one of the better smells from Zoologist.
As I've said in my review of Bee, Zoologist don't make fragrances, they bottle scents. They take a common scent from nature & re-create it in their labs & bottle it. Hence, as "fragrances", they are not always the best smelling. But they are sure are unique.

Big "Like".

kiraagold

Climbs green trees and drinks peach tea, then holds orange flowers at paws length during the descent to the forest floor.

Sweet, comfortable and ponderous, but not terribly exciting.

Muzoona

Well , not sure if this one is better than the old version because I didn’t try the old one. Anyway .. this perfume reminds me DKNY green apple mixed with Chanel No. 19 .. not so good mixture.

Scentclub

Alcohol.
A slight earthiness.
Top notes of fruits and citrus.
Its heart notes are floral and sort of aquatic on my skin.
Overall this reminds me of one of the Calvin Klein scents I tried as a teenager. It is surprisingly sporty and fresh, easily wearable and unexpected. It is the most youthful of the Zoologist perfumes I have tried and it would easily suite a teenage audience.

Buddino72

Another great fragrance from Zoologist.
I love this version, but I smell a lot o fruit in it, mainly sweet pineapple; even if it is not in the declared notes.
Very likeable and mass-appealing, moderate sillage, but very good longevity.
It is fairly unisex, but more towards the feminine side; even if I wear it very eagerly.

savvyminx

I requested a little sample from Luckyscent, and the first time I tried it, I didn't like it at all. I think that I had a residue of another scent on my skin at the time that totally clashed. I tried it again just now, fresh out of the bath and after having worn a very light and short-lasting scent yesterday so there was nothing left to interfere.

But NOW, I'm impressed. Maybe it helps that it's a cool, fresh spring day, the overcast kind that smells like rain and dew. Panda opens up with a crisp green apple and a pop of bright florals, with that funky civet and herbal patchouli to ground the whole thing out. The slightly pissy ammoniac smell of the civet would be unbearable in other compositions, but here it pairs with the apple to give it bite, tartness and complexity. How is this FRESH and FUNKY at the same time?

Definitely don't blind buy this, get a little sample.

ApathyAngel

I wish I could have tried the original, but I do really like this reformulation.

Even though this doesn't have a bamboo note, it still definitely gives off that vibe. Bright, green, and earthy.

The apple is crisp and bright, but there's that smooth musk underneath it, too. Definitely worth sampling.

AHeartLikeMine

This smells very mineral and earthy. It started with fruity notes that only lasted a few seconds. The strange metallic/earthy scent is not something I am sure anyone wants to go around smelling like. After an hour or so, it dries down to a floral chypre.

Scent Dude

Zoologist makes some truly unique fragrances and Panda (2017) is exceptional. I imagine this scent is what it would be like to walk on the edge of a tropical jungle after a light rain while eating a perfectly ripe green apple. It opens with a blast of delicious crisp apple, musk, tea and earth notes which gives off a slightly sweet smokey vibe . After a few minutes it starts to transform into what I can only describe as a scent kaleidoscope smoothly transitioning from note to note. Sandalwood and vanilla start to mingle in with subtle white florals from the lily and magnolia. As the earth notes fade out mandarin and amber peak in periodically to let you know they're there. Longevity on my skin is legendary, seriously this stuff lasts for ages. You'll smell this on clothes days afterward. Sillage is relatively moderate keep in mind I am reviewing this in the winter. I expect this to be much better in warmer weather. Bottom line is this isn't a fragrance, this is an experience and an absolute masterpiece.

xmelldefrag

Wow, i love Panda 2017, for me basically its like wearing apple jasmine osmanthus tea. The earthy note keeps the scent vegetal. And it's totally green and refreshing.

I've never tried the original formulation of Panda though, so i cannot compare them, but Zoologist is a clever niche brand, they never smell generic at all, Panda included. Though for me its a tea scent, but its nothing like its predecessors.

Panda has stellar longevity with medium silage. A compliment getter for sure.

It's a love at the first smell for me.

LadyIva

I liked the original Panda, but this reformulation is also brilliant. This may well be the most tenacious scent that I have ever worn: I sprayed this on at 8:30am and, 15 hours later, it’s still there - faint, but noticeable.
I don’t know why Panda is classified as ‘Oriental Floral’ because, to my nose, it’s predominantly green-musky. It’s completely unisex: the opening still contains that earthy-civet scent that smelled like panda’s poop in the original version, but it quickly subsides and the rest of the exposition is dominated by the sour green apple (fortunately it smells nothing like DKNY!) This is followed by an interplay of green, woody and fruity notes: aside from apple, soil and civet I can also smell dirty patchouli, something leafy, some powdery florals, mostly osmanthus, with a fresh-ozonic overlay. If you love this type of green-musky unisex fragrances, do invest in this beauty, because it is incredibly long lasting and leaves a beautiful trail.

diane9247

Panda opens with a juicy green apple and crushed leaves (though I don't get tea, which is listed), with pretty osmanthus and white flowers a few minutes later. That little civet fellow starts to come out and I've grown to like him since I started sampling Zoologist. Earth! I love the earth, and so does the roly-poly panda. Sandalwood and musk add depth, softness and warmth. I don't pick up much patchouli, amber or vanilla, but maybe I don't need to!

I honestly expected bamboo, even though it's not a listed note, and I see in a couple of reviews that the first version did have it. Wonder why it was taken out. Well, no need to be so literal. Panda is pure nature and that's a good thing!

Panda is long lasting and sillage is moderate.

Ladios

Wow!This is a manly scent. I've been wearing this for a few days now...all I can say is that Zoologist is a brand to be taken very seriously. This is a very bold animalic fragrance. The civet is definitely there. I've not smelled any perfume like this before. It is freshy green, floral, smoky like the smell of tobacco and earthy. A pure masterpiece!

eamaccready

Despite the removal of the bamboo, I like this reformulated one. I agree it's a little more wearable than the other Panda, although I liked that one too. I have a sample vial still that I'm using sparingly. I like the fruity/earthy/animalic combo of Panda. Most fruity fragrances and I don't get along very well, but the Zoologist ones seem to work for me. I agree with Casamir that this is sort of reminiscent of Bat, but they don't smell the same. It's much lighter and fresher, like a summer weather version of Bat, if you will. I dig it.

shuttercore

This was my first introduction to the house of Zoologist and it blew me away. Such unique fragrances! This one in particular opens up with a very fresh green musk that then dies into an Oriental floral before ending with a light powdery wood scent. Perfect for day wear, but is easily wearable any time of day. Great performance. I tried a sample of it and bought a bigger bottle the next day.

jeffwithfrags

I was wondering.

This is wayy better than the per-million green of the original and kudos for Zoologist for realizing the need to make more of an actual Cologne/Perfume than just Artwork with a bunch of lab pipettes.

So there is some daylight here with apples/citrus and something honeyed with the apparent but expected greeness

Still; animalic-musk/civet are such strong notes, you'd think as a reformulation Mr Wong would have learnt a lesson in Topnotes and wearability.

While he has somewhat, he's sort of at it again; this isn't particularly the crowd-pleaser that the Huge apple diagram in the pyramid points towards; the musk is still strong and won't sit comfortably with the casual/mainstream crowd.

In the end; if you're going Fruity, you better be doing it right (ie: more Aventus and Enchanted Forest, less Pulp and Acier Aluminum)

Version 2017 still treads a perilous path between 'Fun n Fruity' and 'Weirdo art guy/girl doing semi-exciting but ultimately too different things'

Mmm. A bit more testing needed; I'm trying to be generous but these Niche heads really do need to put away the cat-litter more often

My rating: 6/10

hesione

They reformulated this one to something completely different. I cannot get my head around how this has anything to do with Panda. This version is extremely sweet, full blast of fruity notes, reminds me of Byredo Pulp (animalic version)

millascent

This is probably my second favorite scent of the whole zoologist line, right behind Macaque. Panda 2017 is sweet and tart, also green and woody, with some of my favorite floral notes to soften its vibrancy. Beautiful color in the bottle, and the scent is so playful and upbeat. This reminds me of how an anime Panda, versus a real panda, would smell. As others have noted, it is very long lasting.

Cauda Pavonis

Fruity aquatic. Fairly pedestrian; my least favorite so far from this house. Even with that it's still head and shoulders above most pedestrian fragrances. I guess this is supposed to be a Panda eating an apple in a flower filled bamboo forest?? Clean and green, with a zippy tartness from the green apple. Cool and airy. Very Japanese in style, by which I mean this is the kind of fragrance Japanese companies use in their soap/ deodorant/ personal grooming products. It also reminds me of those 90's "fresh" fragrances. Panda is actually quite pleasant and likeable, just boring. It's happy and uplifting though, and if that's what you want you could do far worse.

Natan123

Apple and civet, which gives this fragrance a bit of a cat piss vibe in the background along with the fruityness and earthyness. Overall it smells nice, except for that cat piss smell if you really put your nose into it

minaminamina

If I could handle the first 10 minutes this would be one of my favourite perfumes... An oriental apple, so rich, fresh and beautiful. Unlike anything I have tryed before. I adore it. Not the usual green fruit mix... Unfortunately it opens up with quite a bit of soil wich on my skin is so prominent that simply puts me off. It's the first note that hits my nose before the rest starts playing.

More testing required. Maybe in warmer weather it could work on me.

If you like earth, soil and a bit of greenish dampness than you could love it from the start.

In any case it is something worth exploring. Great projection for the first couple of hours, than becomes subtler, but still demands attention. Moderate longevity. Definitely unisex. I imagine this works easier on man thou.

Tested from an original samole bought directly from Zoologist.

cocolover56

This fragrance is so unusual to me. The apple, from the listed notes, is the strongest to me. There's this strange tartness that reminds me of something that I found in most Amouage scents. Am I crazy? Is it an alcohol thing?

BUT! My GOSH, I love this so much! It lasts longer than any scent I've ever worn, even through a shower. Despite what people say, I do detect something similar to bamboo.

I've not tried the original, but that doesn't mean I'm without right to an opinion about the beauty of this. Don't understand the hatred for this.

oschi

Actually smells pretty pleasant. After the first spritz I immediately get fresh green and earthy notes. After 10 seconds the warm base notes with musky civet come through. The civet is not predominant and not disturbing at all. Even when you smell it up close, it smells sour at most and is still not unpleasant. After 30 seconds I started to get the floral notes together with the green apple and patchouli in the background. After 2 minutes it seems to stop developing for a while and the sweet green apple becomes the predominant note (with the orange appearing too). After 5 minutes I definitely start to smell the ozonic notes too. And I think this stage is the best and I love this phase. The vanila comes through after 10 minutes and it stays that way. Everything is mixed well now and it's veery smooth. None of the notes feel out of place and you can enjoy the fragrance as a whole.

EDIT: I kind of missed this part the first time. After 30 minutes it starts to get feminine and floral on me for a short duration. It smells like the sweat of a woman - at least a little. I know this will sound weird but it smells kind of like the underwear of a woman I dated once. Like vagina sweat or something. Very weird... but I don't dislike this to be honest. EDIT END

From what I've heard the other Zoologist fragrances capture the essence of the habitat pretty well, but this one unfortunately doesn't. Something is missing.

But in return you get a very wearable and imo very versatile fragrance. The ingredients seem to be decent to good quality.

I honestly can't agree with most reviewers before me. This is easily a like for me, almost a love. Not what I was expecting, but it's impossible for me to dislike this. The only downside I could think of is that it reminds me of some other popular perfumes I've smelled before. The opening (10minutes) is very unique but it hasn't got that uniqueness after the opening is over.

Long lasting and moderate sillage.

Ignas39

The new Panda is completely different from the older formulation. There is absolutely no similarity between the two. The old Panda was very fresh, smelled like a bamboo forest during or after the rain. This one, however, smells like tart apple mixed with earthiness and some musk. Due to the patchouli note it makes me think of Thierry Mugler line, as they use a very similar dirty patchouli as in Panda. It is pleasant, but for those with an acquired taste, as this formulation is not as easy going and easy-to-wear as it predecessor. I really do like it, yet like with any other Zoologist fragrance, you must sample it before getting a bottle, it is definitely not for everyone.

P.S. This formulation is not as reminiscent of a Panda as the original fragrance (in my opinion). To me, this could be called Elk, bear, mouse or any other animal that has apples in their diet (Pandas do too, but bamboo is what comes to mind first).

fmvolume

I got samples of old and new and I dislike both. The opening is just disgusting in my opinion. Not a blind buy and you really have to acquire this taste of smell for whatever they're trying to achieve.

Thane

I got a sample of this along with Dragonfly. I've always avoided animal notes for fear of "cat pee" smell. Apple is another one I avoid. So I was pleasantly surprised by this and glad I ventured out of my comfort zone.

The musk and civet are the predominant notes for me. I can't make out the other notes individually, I just get a general fruitiness and fresh floral behind the harshness of the musk and civet. But it all seems to work together well. After a while the fruits and florals die down though, and then it's very "animalic," at least compared to what I'm used to.

I haven't tried the original version of Panda, so can't compare. But I guess I could picture a large bear in a forest, even without having bamboo or much "green" notes.

This is a little bolder scent than I'm used to, so I don't know if I'd call this a safe blind buy, but definitely worth trying in my opinion.

Casamir

This new formulation is much more wearable than the original Panda. The original was one of the few fragrances I've ever tried that pretty much gave me a headache - an orange blossom bomb - and a bit more feminine for my preference.

The new Panda is nice - mostly green apple, a wet earthiness, and hints of white florals. (If only it had a bit of the spicy green scent of real bamboo leaves to give me a feeling that it's inspired by a panda.)

One thing I do have to say though, because of the fruits and earthy notes, it does remind me of another of Zoologist's scents: Bat.

the big totoro

I do not like this one at all. I love the original formula of Panda, lovely fresh bamboo, this is nothing like that. It has this terrible synthetic leather and oud (even though not listed) that completely took over and dominated the composition giving me a migraine. I was given a free sample with my last Zoologist order that unfortunately leaked onto everything else in the order and I have spent the last month praying for the smell to disappear.....so yes it has incredible longevity, unfortunately I dislike it.
