Downtown Amarillo will be a barbecue lover's paradise Thursday.

The 22nd annual Amarillo Chamber Good Times Celebration Barbecue Cook-Off will run from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday on the chamber grounds, 1000 S. Polk. Entrance gates will be located at 10th Avenue and Polk Street, 10th and Tyler Street, and 11th Avenue and Tyler.

The event will boast 100 cook teams competing for bragging rights as they barbecue ribs, brisket and other meats. Most will offer food for the crowd, which is expected to top 6,000, and other vendors will provide drinks (alcoholic and otherwise).

It's a networking event, designed for businesspeople to connect, but the party atmosphere is an important facet, as well.

We’re proud to celebrate our 22nd year of what we think is Amarillo’s greatest networking event with food, fun and friends," said Gary Molberg, Amarillo Chamber president & CEO. "This event is about so much more than juset great barbecue. It is a truly phenomenal experience that should be on everyone’s bucket list."

The event won't include a band this year: Between the ever-growing crowd and the ongoing renovations and construction at the Firestone Building, there's no room for a stage this year, chamber officials said.

Tickets are $30 in advance through any Panhandle Ticket outlet including the Civic Center Box Office, any Amarillo/Canyon United or Amigos Supermarket, online at Panhandle Tickets or by phone at 806-378-3096 (not at the Chamber office, though). They're $40 at the gate.
