hen it comes to hiking, Marin is home to some of the best hiking trails in the Bay Area with an urban park system consisting of more than 500 miles of spectacular trails. Head out to the Marin Headlands in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area with views of the Golden Gate Bridge or venture inland and hike to the top of Mount Tamalpais for a 360-degree view of the entire bay area. Experience the rugged coastline of the Point Reyes National Seashore, and meander among the giant redwoods in Muir Woods. Additionally, there are many well maintained county parks and 34 open space preserves offering visitors outstanding scenic vistas, redwood groves, cascading waterfalls, opportunities for wildlife viewing, and other natural amenities.

Instead of driving to the woods make a reservation on the shuttle. Muir Woods Shuttle Reservation $3.00 per adult round trip ticket (16 years and older) Free - child round trip ticket (15 years and younger) The Muir Woods Shuttle picks up at the following locations: Pohono Park & Ride - Free parking available 100 Shoreline Hwy in Sausalito Recommended for visitors driving to this shuttle stop area. Parking reservations are not needed at this location. Transit Connections: Allow a 30-minute departure window. Marin Transit: Route 17, Route 61 Sausalito - Parking not available; Be prepared for a 3 min walk. Shuttles leave from Bay & Bridgeway Streets in Sausalito. Recommended for visitors taking the Golden Gate Ferry from San Francisco’s Ferry Building and the Blue & Gold Fleet from Fisherman’s Wharf at Pier 43. Reservations at this location are made for an exact departure time. Please arrive 15 minutes before your scheduled departure.

s the last commissioned work by famed architect Frank Lloyd Wright, the Civic Center was the only government project he designed. Sadly, Wright didn’t see the completed building, as he died in 1959, before the project was finished. Visitors can take in an array of extraordinary design features at this national and state historic landmark. The beauty of the building belies the controversy that preceded its construction. Get to know more of the architect and his building by taking a 90 minute docent-led tour every Wednesday or Friday at 10:30am. Tours leave from the second floor Café, Room 23, at 3501 Civic Center Drive.

he Bartolini Gallery, inside Marin Center’s Exhibit Hall Building, presents the work of local artists year ‘round and showcases the diversity and creativity of talent in Marin County. The gallery is open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.and on selected weekends. It is located at 10 Avenue of the Flags in San Rafael.
