TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – Alabama volleyball pushed its current win streak to seven matches with a pair of wins Friday at the Crimson-White Tournament against Southern and Murray State.

Alabama (10-2) swept Southern (0-9) in the first match of the day but struggled to get in a rhythm offensively, hitting .147 as a team with all three set victories coming by four points or less. The Tide was more polished in the 3-1 win against Murray State (7-4), stuffing a season-high 14 team blocks and holding the Racers to a .112 clip while hitting .270 as a team, Alabama's highest percentage at home this season.

Senior Natalie Murison posted seven digs in each match for a Friday total of 14, which moves her to second all-time at Alabama with 1,367 career digs. She is now 357 away from tying Amy Pauly's (2005-08) school record of 1,724. Sophomore Hayley McSparin hit .529 with a team-leading 24 kills between the two matches, including a career-best 11 blocks in the match against Murray State, just two shy of the Alabama school record. Senior Leah Lawrence tied McSparin with 24 blocks and tallied a team-leading five service aces on the day.

MATCH ONE: ALABAMA 3, SOUTHERN 0
Alabama battled against a resilient Southern squad in Friday's opening match, going past the 25-point mark in set one and edging out close victories in the remaining two sets. Over the entire match, there were 24 tie scores and seven lead changes, including four in the deciding third set. Lawrence led the Tide offense with 12 kills and McSparin was also in double digits, finishing with 10 along with a team-leading three blocks.

Alabama found itself trailing early, 8-6, but scored three-straight to retake the lead at 9-8. Back-to-back kills by Lawrence and Ginger Perinar gave the Tide a three-point lead at the media timeout, 15-12, and Southern took its first team timeout three points later with Alabama now leading 17-13. The Tide eventually extended its lead to six points, 23-17, but the Jaguars narrowed the gap with a 6-1 run to hold Alabama at set point with a one-point lead, 24-23, and the Tide took its first timeout. Southern scored a point to tie it after the break, 24-24, but kills from Lawrence and Christine Jarman would give Alabama the 26-24 victory.

Tied at 7-7 in set two, Southern built a four-point lead with a 6-2 run to lead 13-9 as Alabama took a timeout. Consecutive points by the Tide later cut the Jaguars' lead to three points, 16-13, and the visitors called a timeout. Alabama eventually pulled ahead, 19-18, on a kill by Jarman and a Southern attack error made it a two-point game with the Jaguars taking its final timeout. Alabama scored four more unanswered points to extend its lead to five points but Southern cut it to two points at the end, 24-22, but a solo block by McSparin gave the Tide the 25-22 win and a 2-0 match lead.

Alabama scored the first two points of set three but Southern responded with six-straight to take a 6-2 lead. Alabama tied it three times before retaking the lead, 10-9, on a service ace by Kaylee Thomas. Later with Alabama in front 17-14, Southern retook the lead with four-straight points before consecutive Jaguar attack errors gave Alabama the lead back, 19-18, and the Jaguars took a timeout. A service ace from Lawrence gave Alabama match point, 24-20, and a back-row kill by Thomas two points later secured the 25-21 win and completed the 3-0 match sweep.

MATCH TWO: ALABAMA 3, MURRAY STATE 1
Alabama built a 2-0 match lead before Murray State avoided the sweep with a win in set three. The Tide ended the match with a 10-point victory in the fourth to claim the four-set win. Alabama out-blocked Murray State 14-3, a season-high for the Tide, with McSparin earning a career-high 11 blocks, just two shy of the school record. McSparin also added 14 kills for her first career double-double.

Alabama built a slim 7-5 lead early in set one but Murray State quickly moved back ahead with a 6-1 run to lead 11-7. Down 14-12, kills by McSparin and Perinar tied it up at 14-14 and an ace by Quincey Gary gave the Tide a one-point lead at the media timeout, 15-14. The Racers scored three-straight points after the break to move back in front but the lead was short-lived as the Tide retook the lead at 19-18 on a Murray State attack error and the visitors took a timeout. Alabama got on a roll in the closing stages, reaching set point on a block from Mahalia Swink and McSparin as Murray State called its final timeout trailing 24-20 and the Tide held on to win the set, 25-21.

Alabama got off to a strong start in set two, hitting .500 over the first 17 points to build an 11-6 lead before Murray State took its first timeout. Alabama scored five in a row after the break, capped by a service error from Meghan Neelon, to build a commanding 16-6 lead. The Tide would hold onto its double-digit lead for the remainder of the set, ending the 25-15 win on a service ace from Lawrence to build a 2-0 match lead.

After eight tie scores early in set three, Alabama added some cushion with a 4-0 run to move ahead 13-9 but Murray State fought back to tie it back at 14-14. A kill by Swink made it a one-point game at the media timeout but momentum swung back in Murray State's favor, with the Racers leading 22-19 at the Tide's first timeout. Alabama took its second timeout soon after trailing 23-20 and Murray State held on to win, 25-22, and avoid the sweep.

The Tide started set four with a 7-2 run and the Racers would fight within one point but Alabama would hold its lead, using a 3-0 run to build a 15-11 lead at the media timeout. The Tide continued to push in the closing half of the fourth set, using a 5-2 run to make it a seven-point game at the 20-point mark and a service ace by Lawrence at match point would ultimately end it, giving Alabama the double-digit victory at 25-15 to secure the 3-1 match win.

Alabama concludes its weekend at the Crimson-White Tournament facing Troy (5-8) on Saturday, Sept. 16 at 1 p.m. CT.
