C.D. Reiss

CD Reiss is a New York Times bestselling author. She still has to chop wood and carry water, which was buried in the fine print. Her lawyer is working it out with God but in the meantime, if you call and she doesn't pick up she's at the well hauling buckets.

Born in New York City, she moved to Hollywood, California to get her master's degree in screenwriting from USC. In case you want to know, that went nowhere but it did give her a big enough ego to write novels.

She's frequently referred to as the Shakespeare of Smut which is flattering but hasn't ever gotten her out of chopping a single cord of wood.

If you meet her in person, you should call her Christine.

The only thing I like about this book are the names of the protagonists, Harper and Taylor; everything else was super confusing and unrealistic on a massive scale.

After reading 4 of her books yet liking only one, I think, conclusively, it's safe to say that Reiss's books are not for me. DNF @ 60%.

4 More Than The Obvious Stars
* * * * Spoiler Free It's Live!!!
I first heard about this book over a year ago. Right off the bat I knew C.D. Reiss was going to do her homework and take her time to make this authentic. Before this was a thought or at least before our knowing of this up coming book, the Tech World has been making headlines... and not the type any company would want.

It has been no secret the Industry has looked upon women as less than. From harassing women gamers and programmers to female executives getting smacked by a ceiling harder to break than glass.

These behaviors have run rampant in Silicone Valley and how it has gone unchecked for years can baffle a logical mind. Yet at the same time, the people who have populated this industry may have certain common threads... and those common threads have allowed this blatant attitude... and part of the focus of this book shines a spotlight on it.

Because besides these companies being part of "An Old Boys/New Boys Network"... it is the essence of who these New Boys have been...

*Side Note*

Now please... I am going to make comments here that could be considered generalizations...They are just my personal observations and also pertain to parts of the book

These men who created this computer world and those who live in it May Be Those who were not comfortable with interpersonal interaction with women... they may have been labeled Geeks/Nerds, made fun of... may not have been regarded for what their masterful minds could do... The Teen Years are the worst... If these guys were not appreciated...if the high school years were harsh and cruel then interaction with young women may not have been positive. These boys/men developed with a bonding among themselves and it continued to protect them when they went out into the world creating their companies. Keeping women out so as they could keep the "distractions" away was a chickensh!t way to just keep their minds focused on their tasks.

Underestimating women/objectifying them gave them power they never had before... and there was a comfort in it. There was also no one who forced them to adapt and adjust... grow up and accept these women were their equals or betters. Today these companies as well as all corporations are being forced to address these inequities...These fights are in the news every day.

So there is that. Again, Generalizations for the purpose of this review.

As to the appeal of Hacking...This is addressed...we have a very clear take on how this power and ability to manipulate can become addictive ... and take someone who may not feel comfortable in person with actual people... and then have all this power by using a couple of keystrokes.

So with all of this happening as motivation and backstory for me...I entered this story.

We are taken on a hijacked journey... Taylor Harden is a man who has been on both sides of the Hacking World. As a young adult he was introduced to the dark web by a co student who was deeply in it. He was mentored, encouraged and shown all of the ways to work people's data... to any advantage.

Taylor developed his skills and with this other powerful hacker... he tripped over something that triggered the FBI at his door. What happened next was the turning point for him... He never gave up his friend... he claimed he didn't mean any harm...oops it was a mistake I did all by myself....and with the power of his lawyers...he became an asset and not a jailbird. It did force him into the White Hat category and many of the dark web felt he rolled over.

Time has gone by and Taylor has worked hard creating a company that will change the world... it will change how all the computers will work. The language he has discovered with all of his dedicated teams is written like nothing we compute now. Taylor's company is ready to present it to the press before the scheduled GreyHatCon...where all the major players... Black Hat and White converge... Data Companies of all types ready to see what Taylor is bringing... an unhackable new program that will revolutionize the industry.

He has the team disciplined to turn off all computers...He is ready to talk with the press in his inner domain and then the impossible happens... On the overhead screen... He see something that should not be scrolling and then a black screen... He is locked out of his own program.

As you can imagine, everything goes to sh!t... and Taylor has to find the hacker. Somehow he and his team track a trace to Middle America... a place that makes no sense...A company that has long been closed.

Taylor takes off, singularly focused on finding this guy who took his code and fixing this thing before GreyHatCon...Things have to be fixed or everything is lost...

He lands in this No Man's Land... of a town that once was a Company Town...That had a thriving economy and more than 10 thousand inhabitants. But now the welcome sign to the town has scratched it out to reflect maybe 1400 people total...and the cracks in the asphalt with fighting weeds growing out of them is telling...

This town has died... and only ghosts and the clinging souls determined not to leave still live there.

This is the set up of the book... and it takes us on a journey that becomes a mystery maze... we are lead just like Taylor and the leader is a genius...who does not share the same chromosomes as Taylor.

Yes, the mastermind of all of this is Harper... a woman who has a plan which is more than 3 dimensional... more like 5.

Harper carries her own pain and responsibilities... many were thrust upon her, some she takes on personally and shouldn't. Her talent is through the roof. We meet her and never underestimate her.
She is part of this town, whats left of it and because of her family was the Company, there is an extra concern and care for her from the others.

Taylor and Harper cross paths, then Taylor proceeds to be stuck in this place where he was lead... by the hacker. He is on a search for some kind of clues he has been teased with... and the hunt is on.

There is one problem... Taylor is drawn to this curious woman... it grows and develops and then explodes.

I will not go into the specifics.... but I will share... If you know and have read CD Reiss before...then you know anything that takes place between these two is so intense, so clear, real and sometimes raw...you will be experiencing it yourself as you read.

You will also be in Taylor's head through out this entire time.. you feel all of his rage, anger, confusion, concern, frustration, lust and then love. You will also see through his eyes what this town represents...it is almost a Billboard highlighting all the wrongs which have happened in this country... How towns lost their children to other cities... How those who were not given new training for the newer job markets once the traditional jobs left...All of this is front and center and lends a perspective you cannot ignore.

This book is a Romance novel, for sure..It is strong in the commitment these two characters turn out to have. They are hot and you will be there from the start... you will also be given more as the surrounding characters will cause you to be curious about them, too. It looks like there will be at least 2 more books involving characters from this.

This book also is a statement about economics and equality. It is a comment and possible conversation starter for more than a Happily Ever After. We shouldn't be surprised...because is is written by C.D.Reiss.

So let me get this straight...
A man who is on the brink...

Has the plan...
Has the ability...
And has the Heavy Hitters taking numbers trying to invest...

But there's a hold up...
A very serious issue...
A smart ass who is messing with his app, his vehicle to unparalleled success...

Not cool when the culprit turns out to be his Achilles heel...
His fantasy walking, talking and mental equal...

But this fantasy is not interested, willing or accessible...
Oh Snap...

This book is everything I love about CD Reiss. It takes the romance novel and turns it upside down. Nothing was predictable, and it was a puzzle - CD Reiss spoonfeeding me clues, half of which sent me in the wrong direction and all that I gobbled up and begged for more.

I read this in bed. In the car. In line at the supermarket. While brushing my teeth at night.

I couldn't stop, and I experienced every sort of emotion right alongside the Hero. Taylor really stole my heart. He was absolutely unique in his honest vulnerability - and soooo fall-in-loveable. It was the best six hours ever, and I was wincing by the final chapters, afraid to have it end.

I loved that this book didn't end in a cliffhanger. Still, I'm absolutely craving the next one.

It’s been a while since I read one of Ms. Reiss’ books and this one was so different with what I read by her before! I really tried but I couldn’t go further. I really couldn’t understand this hack-plot and encryption/decryption! Besides the plot, I didn’t like the characters (especially the h) and couldn’t connect with them. I’m in a minority here so pay no attention to me and read it, hope you enjoy it more than me!

Taylor Harden lives in California & is the King of Code. He's the Everest in the hacker world. His childhood friend invested startup capital in his company, & he's been developing a computer system that's about to be released into the world. He will be known as a legend. He's created a system called QI4 & bragged about it. His code is about to be everywhere. He's on the edge of fame & everything he's worked for is suddenly within reach when it's abruptly taken from him. He built an unhackable system that is hacked in a split second. He somehow failed to protect the work he'd spent a decade building. He feels he's let his team down & blames himself. His reputation & future is on the line, so he decides he has to track down the hacker that's targeted him & fix things.

 photo IMG_0302_zpsynxuwmki.jpg

Taylor tracks the hacker to a small town in Nowhere, USA called Barrington. It's a ghost town, but he's determined to find his guy & try to negotiate. He's stunned to find out this brilliant guy is actually a gorgeous woman named Harper Watson. She's the town sweetheart & the queen of hacking. Tired of scraping by & living in the shadows, Harper has her own agenda, and big plans for Taylor.

Taylor is at Harper's mercy when it comes to his code. She's withholding the information he needs & has his life in her hands. He knows she's supposed to be the enemy & she's the reason he's trapped, but he can't help the way he wants her.

 photo IMG_0303_zpskvra3ag0.jpg

-"I want you."

-You're mine. Only mine.

 photo IMG_0364_zpsgegpp6tn.jpg

As Taylor & Harper grow closer, Taylor begins to question what's most important to him. He's consumed with his feelings for Harper, but when his two worlds collide what will he have left? Will he have to choose, or can he have it all? Can they find a way to be together & make things work?

➦So... this wasn't your typical Reiss book with bdsm elements and it was nice to see something different from her! It was definitely erotic but rather tame compared to some of the other books I've read by her. And... I ended up liking this one, as you've probably gathered.

➦Not the first book I've read that had a badass female hacker in it but certainly one of the best ones. It was interesting to witness this male computer genius being manipulated by a chick who decided to blackmail him with his own code. lol and she sure did have plans for him. They may or may not have been of sexual extortion. The question is - why?

➦I've opted for an audiobook of this and I ended up enjoying it. There were definitely some geeky elements to this novel as well as some computer jargon but I didn't feel like they were over the top distracting. It gave this book a... vibe. I guess.

➦Another thing that I loved was the male only POV, not often that I get to read those these days. Loved being in this guy's head while he was trying to figure out this chick and what made her tick. Oh, and if "teach me sex" was a trope then I shall hereby assign it to this book because that's what was happening here. And me likey, of course.

'King of Code,' is the first sexy standalone in a new series of standalones by CD Reiss. A suspenseful romance about a hacker tech genius on the cusp of greatness and a sassy, super intelligent member of the fairer sex standing slightly in the way. The blurb gives us this information and as the layers of the story are revealed I found myself wondering and surmising as to why and how and who making this an intriguing read with well-developed charismatic characters who kept me guessing and wondering throughout.

The hacker premise ensures, ‘King of Code,’ offers a unique telling of a romance story with Reiss clearly demonstrating that she has looked heavily into this subject which should be highly attractive to the techy nerds among us. There are times when I must confess the hacker details felt complex and perhaps overshadowed the romance and intensity of emotion that I seek from my reading material which, having thought a great deal about this, I think possibly was the root cause of why I did not feel the high level of chemistry between the hero and heroine in the way that I normally would with a Reiss novel. There are also aspects in the story that I expected to have a greater impetus and certainly from a personal reading perspective I would have liked these aspects to be further explored.

'King of Code,' offers a fresh approach and different kind of reading experience for romance lovers and, as always, this book is strongly crafted by the author showcasing a sophisticated style and beautiful writing within the narrative making this novel a must read for fans of the author and those seeking a geeky romance with an intriguing edge.

Hacking.....Silicon Valley......BitCoin.....Coding......Downtrodden Town and Love. In true CD Reiss fashion, her words pull back the layers of a very detailed driven book. Hacking isn't for the faint of heart. It is complex, nerdy, powerful, and driven. Those in the world are really on another playing level. Their IQ and their desire and passion and need to surpass one another is what drives them.

Taylor Harden is Mr Silicon Valley. You have read the blurb and he gets into trouble. Enter Harper......someone that has completely turned Taylor upside down.

This story has a lot going on. There is hacking, there is deceit, their is Silicon Valley and their is Barrington, USA. Besides the hacking, there is Barrington that has fallen on hard times, a town that is slowly dying because all the jobs have left. So this story is a conglomeration of all this and two individuals that bring it all to a head.

I will say that the love story comes later in the story but it is riddled with hacking and an underlying sexual tension. The townsfolk of Barrington and the players of Silicon Valley help mold Taylor and Harper's relationship. The how and why of the hack also ties into their complexity of their relationship.

This story has so many points that are spoilers that it's hard to fully discuss. What I can say is that this story is different, complex, engaging and full of social relevance.

2.5 Definitely maybe

It started off pretty interesting but then I stopped liking it for some reason. Instead of falling for the characters more and more they just kind of got annoying.

The writing style was definitely something else though (bad or good, I still can't decide), so it made for an interesting reading.
I also found out some new things, so it deserves 3 stars at least. I dunno, maybe you should just read it to decide for yourself.

Man, I love CD Reiss’ books. I’m convinced she can pretty much write anything, serious, light, erotica, any freaking thing! And King of Code is no exception. This was so original, so refreshing and super funny.

I loved the hero, he was so cocky and confident and to see his entire world crumble, and then this girl turn his life upside down was definitely a treat.

“I love you, Harper.”
“I love you. Please get out,” she said absently.
There was something nice about that. To be loved habitually. Thoughtlessly, almost. Being so deep in her heart that she could say she loved me without thinking too hard about it.

The heroine was also super sweet and endearing, but she also remained a bit of a mystery to me. Like I couldn’t quite figure her out. Probably because the book was entirely in Taylor’s POV, I couldn’t completely connect with her but I enjoyed the relationship regardless. I also enjoyed the secondary characters like her sister.

So, overall this was cool, different, and also super romantic and sexy too! I definitely can’t wait to see what the author brings next. She definitely has a fan in me!

She’d made her own decisions, and I’d made mine. We’d succeeded, failed, and come full circle back to each other. Our boats were lashed together, swaying on the endless sea. We were dots, specks, insignificant blinks under the weight of infinity. I was not afraid.

Oh and I also have to mention that although I read an ARC early on, I also listened to the audiobook narrated by Christian Fox and it was absolutely fantastic. He completely nailed Taylor!

For some reason, this is my favorite quote <3 :

This was different from what I thought it would be but still good. As a programming student and System Support Analyst professionally, I was really excited by the concept and in many ways, it definitely felt well researched and authentic.

Where I found myself with unmet expectations was in the characterization. The way we were told characters were wasn't necessarily supported by what they said or did. I didn't really catch the vibe that Taylor was as strong/confident as he was purported to be. He felt a bit dimmed through most of the story up until the time that he became intimate with Harper. Then he became hella sexy and more but I think it came in a little too late. Something similar happened with Keaton, one of the primary support characters.

I liked Harper and her quirks. Her manipulation and games were interesting, even if they were wrong, but the reasoning and purpose were anti-climactic. There is definitely room for growth and I hope to see the series reflect it, even if through cameos in other books.

Safety: No others for either even though there is a suggestion that there would be. No rape or abuse.

Smart. Sexy. Bold. Original. Suspenseful. Unique. These are a few words to sum up CD Reiss latest release, KING OF CODE.

#KingOfCode_CdReiss

In this digital age where technology and the internet are practically a body organ since our life seems to be consumed and dependent on it, CD Reiss has boldly and artfully written a story that intertwines and weaves computers, hacking, duplicity, suspense, intrigue and romance all into one. This might not be your typical love story of hearts and flowers but that’s what makes Reiss stands out. She engages her readers to look beyond what is written. She allows her readers to see a new scope and dimension when it comes to how every detail is an integral part of what is going with the characters. Literally, she takes her readers down a proverbial rabbit hole where codes, the dark web, computer etymologies, hackers, secrets, betrayals, and life are all thrown at you and very slowly, Reiss tells you a story that will leave you at awe. I honestly don’t want to say much but this book consumed me. It was fresh, modern, and wickedly smart. The writing was brilliant. And the story line was masterfully told. All there is left to say, you better be one-clicking and downloading this book (legally of course) NOW!!

The Audio:
I was a little nervous to try my first audiobook of a book I haven't already read on my Kindle or Paperback but it actually worked really well. There were a few times I had to go back and re-listen so I could imagine what was being said but that was more of the fact that I was trying to concentrate on the book and work at the same time. The readers voice was nice to listen to and I thought he did a good job with changing his voice to match the different characters.

The Story:
I wasn't sure what to expect from this book so I mostly went into it blind. Taylor and Harper were nothing like I expected them to be, though, yet I ended up loving them.

Taylor was the character that was focused on the majority of the time and we got to see him grow from the asshole hacker to, well still an asshole but one that actually cared about other people. I loved getting to see his journey from the guy that took what he wanted without consequences, to the guy that will be the object of my dreams for a good long while.

What had me really intrigued though was the hunt he was on for the hacker that humiliated him and then the hunt for the answer of how to reverse what they had done. The whole book had this feel of suspense and I was kept waiting for a big reveal or some shocker that I was trying to guess the whole time. I loved that it had me so captivated and I just couldn't stop listening.

It was a really intense story and even though it didn't technically end on a cliffhanger and these characters had their story come to a complete end, it still has me impatient for the next one. I need more from these characters and I'm not ashamed to beg.

I have been SO excited for this book ever since I heard it would have a female hacker heroine. CD Reiss always gives her readers something unique and different with every book, and I couldn't wait to see what she'd bring with coders/hackers. King of Code is unlike any other book I've ever read to say the least. It was hot, intense, exciting, and unputdownable. And I loved that it was all in the hero's POV! Review to come!

Great story. A unique story line... I've never read anything like it.

description

This book involved a whole lot of computer code jargon that I must admit I didn't fully comprehend. I have limited coding knowledge and I'm okay with that. I didn't feel like I was missing anything in the story due to my lack of computer hacking skills. I was totally sucked into it anyway. It all could have been a load of made-up crap, but I'd like to think the author did the necessary research on the subject.

I was totally digging the too-smart-for-the-boys computer hacker chick. Yaaasss! #GirlsCodeToo

Taylor Harden is a hacker/coder on the cusp of revolutionizing a new computer code to the world. Believing his system is unhackable, the inevitable occurs just days away from the reveal causing Taylor to find the hacker, protect his investors, preserve his company and reclaim his rightful place in history. When Taylor follows the clues to the hacker he doesn’t expect to be a pawn in the game of cat and mouse.

“I was the Everest of the hacker world. They wanted to get me because I was big, I was a challenge, and I was there.”

Harper Watson grew up in a small town with certain privileges associated with wealth; however, she learned early there are no guarantees. With her vision and heartfelt reasons, Harper does the unimaginable by luring Taylor within her realm of code.

“I like to know how things work. Once you know that, you can do anything.”

As Taylor slowly learns that Harper has a plan, the constant give and take that occurs sets a quick pace leaving Taylor at a disadvantage. When Harper actually reveals her terms, Taylor is shocked but is more than willing to succumb to her demands.

“I’m going to fuck you like you fucked me.” I twisted her hair in my hand and yanked her head back. “And you’re going to take it.”

During this process, Taylor slowly begins to crack Harper’s code, but while doing so, he discovers what he’s lost along the way. Offering a sense of community, Harper shows how people matter and the cost of irresponsible success.

“I’d been perforated between what I’d wanted before I met her and what I wanted after, then she ripped me in two.”

From the beginning, I admired Taylor’s work ethic and appreciated the added dimension of humanity as the plot developed. With Harper having skills that are equal to Taylor, it showed how they can work together on higher level despite the general sexism that pervades their industry. While I had issue with part of Harper’s reasons for hacking Taylor, the overall storyline surpassed my doubts.

Told from Taylor’s POV, I enjoyed getting in his head and reading about his primal urges toward Harper. Additionally, Taylor’s friendship with Keaton was endearing and interesting on many levels, as it certainly added to the suspense of the ongoing plot.

In King of Code, CD Reiss effectively shows her versatility in writing romance infused with sexual tension and the fundamental theme of social responsibility. At times, the tech world created in these pages felt so foreign but it also carried the idea that any code or language can be created and understood.

For those who enjoy a push and pull romance, I recommend King of Code!

I read this two days before Duke of Desire came out and when I needed a break from The King's Man due to the stupidity of a secondary character.

Anyway, I'm still not sure what I read.

Mr. Robot meets Romance novels maybe? Something along those lines.

It's definitely a strange book. First of all, the writing felt rather choppy, like a staccato rhythm with one sentence stating one fact, and the next stating another at times, without a proper transition.

As far as the story goes, the blurb says it all. Taylor has built a seemingly un-hackable system, bound to revolutionise our computerised world. The prologue states openly that his aim is to be named along the likes of Steve Jobs, Bill Gates and Jeff Bezos, no less. When the unthinkable happens - his system gets hacked during a press introduction - Taylor needs to find the person who hacked it and now holds the system at ransom. The hacker leaves clues as to where to find him/her. Of course, it's a her, as I'm reading a f/m romance.

So he ends up in a town called Barrington and meets our heroine, Harper, a highly intelligent and equally highly complicated person.

I wanted to like this book, and strangely enough, I did. But then I didn't. And then I did, and then I didn't. That's how the story goes. really. It covers a variety of conflicts. The deep seated sexism and misogyny within the IT industry, the slow death of communities due to a failing economy, the meaning of family and friendships.

The book was good when it concentrated on those topics, however convoluted it may have been. But the romance fell flat. Taylor (he's the sole narrator of the story) was quite a dickhead while Harper's character was suffering from what I perceived as mood swings. It took a long, long time before I could get a grip on both.

It didn't really help that Harper was a virgin. I know that I may come across as a reader who categorically rejects virginity (male/female alike) but that has never been my point. I've known enough virgins past their 20's to know that it isn't that uncommon, or rather, it is uncommon but not unheard of.

I digress.

My point is, if one of the characters in a CR is a virgin, I need a valid reason, and I didn't believe in Harper's reasoning. Anyway, as soon as the sexy times begin, Harper turns more or less into a - you guessed correctly - a sex goddess. Sigh!

It also didn't help that the author probably tried to be as authentic as possible in regards to her main protagonists' passion: coding/hacking. I'll admit, when they talked shop, it went straight over my head. I could have asked my husband who is - haha! - a software engineer, but I wasn't that enthralled by Taylor and Harper to do so.

So, a strange book, indeed. A lot of things that didn't work, but enough other elements that did work and kept me reading.

I wish the editor and author had cut down a few of the multitude of topics covered; trim it down a little. There's so much going on, if I tried to recount and attempt to analyse the plot, I may as well end up writing an essay.

I may or may not continue with the series. Not sure yet.

I could not get into this book at all...I kept waiting for something exciting to happen as this is a book about a hacker but it just fell flat to me. I couldn't connect to the characters at all. I love CD Reis's books so I am bummed about this one :(

I had an unexpected reaction to this book. I totally loved a secondary character more than the main characters. Welp!!

Harper and Taylor were fine. Their sexy times were hot. However, they didn’t do for me. I didn't connect to either of them until the very end of the book. I adore CD Reiss and the storyline of this book is interesting, but Keaton… Keaton stole the show and became the character that I wanted to know more about.

Here’s what I really enjoyed: The writing is amazing. You can pretty much count on fantastic writing anytime you pick up a CD Reiss novel. It’s well researched and expertly structured.

The audiobook is fracking amazing! It’s one of the best I’ve ever experienced. The production is unbelievable!! I loved all the bells and whistles AND Christian Fox could read me the phone book and I’d still love him!! His performance is beyond fabulous. I highly recommend the audiobook.

So, overall I liked it, but didn't love it. I CANNOT wait for Queen of Rust. I’m waiting on you Keaton!

2.5 baffled stars

Two big problems with this for me - I didn't like the main character (sexist, selfish and up his own arse) and the code/hacking plot baffled me. They were trying to 'get into' the system. I don't actually get what that means (and I'm not interested enough to find out) so the suspense I should've got from that plot just whizzed straight over my head.

Still, the smut was good, but this wasn't for me. Would probably suit if code is your thing or if you enjoy being challenged.

~*~ 4 1/2 STARS ~*~

Even though this isn’t my favorite novel that CD Reiss has ever written, doesn’t mean it wasn’t pretty damn FANTASTIC! I think this might be one of the realist, smartest, and most unique romance she has ever written. Sometimes when I read a book, it’s clear to me how much grit, heart, and soul an author has put into their work, and with KING OF CODE, I believe CD Reiss put ALL OF HERSELF into this love story between two hackers. It’s clear in the character development. It’s clear in the emotion that flew off of the pages. It’s clear with the attention to detail on every single page. The vivid imagery in this story alone, just blew me away. The minute I read the ending, I wanted to experience it ALL OVER AGAIN, and that is not new when it comes to myself and Reiss’ work. Nobody can get me quite riled up over a story like Ms. Reiss can.

I wanted to quote the hell out of this book. I seriously have tons and tons of AWESOME quotes that I’m dying to share, but I want you readers to go into this story super fresh-eyed and innocent. KING OF CODE isn’t just a book you read. KING OF CODE is an EXPERIENCE that you will want to go through again and again. These two characters go through so many ups and downs that it made my head spin, my heart ache, and my body ignite! Taylor and Harper are unique and amazing characters that I fell HARD for! Their story was complicated, sexy, and emotional. The minute I cracked the first page, there was no going back and I just hope that CD Reiss continues to write like this. I hope she continues to write with her whole being, no matter what anybody says, because even though I’ve never met Ms. Reiss, I feel like I know her so much better after reading this book.

Taylor Harnden has come from the slums of nothing with his life to kingdom by hard work. He has created a computer code that he brags in completely unhackable. He has hired the best of the best men, in the world, to ensure his hard work and swear are worth every man hour and penny he spent while not even being able to eat to create this company.

Big unveiling of this code for the Kinf of Code happens. And of course, in true climactic fashion, this code has been busting all to pieces. The unhackable has been hacked. And Taylor is LIVID. He vows to find the "man" (because obviously women aren't as smart as he is and the only one to hack the unhackable HAD to be a man) that did this and take him down.

A chip found in one of his devices leads Taylor into the middle of nowhere that has all but died. Harper is this gorgeous woman who carries the weight of what is left of this town on her shoulders. Finding out it was indeed a WOMAN that hacked his code, we watch as these two go through a range of emotions (and other roller coasters throughout this amazing read) that lead them both in the same place, feeling the same thing. As always, CD does not fail to bring the heat, and boy do these two have it!! (Keep a glass - or jug - of water handy!) I absolutely love how this sets up the next books in the series, giving us more insight into characters!

This book is suspenseful, paranoia-inducing, panty-melting madness, I tell you. Madness!

I don't really know much about hacking or Operating systems or code, but I followed along well because the writing is absolutely brilliant. And now I'm checking my phone and my computer and ALL THE DEVICES, because I'm pretty sure I will get hacked
anytime, lol.

Taylor and Harper are great characters - and great together - even when they hate each other. I fell in love with the secondary characters as much as I did the King himself. The small town setting brings its own set of problems, but they're doing the best they can and that's why I loved them.

The angst, the drama, the feels, the suspense - this book has it all and I loved every moment of it!
I highly recommend.
