Salinger’s might be opening back up for business.
Party of Five creators Chris Keyser and Amy Lippman are developing a reboot of the ’90s Fox drama, but there’s a twist:The project is centered around a first-generation Latino family who have immigrated to the U.S., per The Hollywood Reporter.
While the original series, which ran from 1994-2000, was about the Salinger siblings’ struggles after their parents’ deaths in a car crash, the new Party of Five would chronicle a Latino clan’s highs and lows as they learn to make it in a new country. (No word on whether Mom and Dad survived or not this time around.)
The reboot is in the very early stages — producers Sony Pictures Television Studios haven’t even heard a pitch yet — and no network is attached.
Ready for more of today’s newsy nuggets? Well…

So, it has nothing to do with Party of Five. It is an entirely new show, with a new concept, and new characters played by new actors. From the people that did Party of Five.
Exactly. Such a disappointment after reading the headline.
Yeah… I don’t see the need for that twist, nor why it would improve the show. Not everything needs that level of diversification. (Not that I don’t love seeing TV represent real diversity.) In this particular instance, the resonance of the original clashes with that idea.
Yay! They were the only redeeming thing about BB19
I look forward to their new challenges as a couple
I’ve never seen it but i’m 100% certain you’re wrong
There’s nothing redeeming about any season of big brother – ever
Not one person on BB19 was without fault. Jessica and Cody were beyond rude and did their own share of bullying in the house. They just cared about themselves and just gave up on playing Big Brother, stayed in their bedroom and made out. It was really pathetic. The entire season was awful.
I’m very surprised that they have fans. I didn’t find anything appealing about Grumpy Robot Cody and Princess Jessica.
What? You must have watched a different show? Sucked at the game. Ignorant, homophobic, transphobic, bigots. Yea I’ll pass on them on amazing race.
Party of five reboot isnt the same…enough already…come up with orginal ideas instead of slapping the title on something that is differen
Yeah, I don’t get it. If it’s not basically the same, it’s not a reboot. The idea of a 1st gen latino family with (i am suspecting) no parents can work on its own. They don’t need to call it Fiesta de Cinco, or name them the Salazar’s – the idea is already ok without them tagging on to the name of party of 5. Is it that they’ve run out of names for tv shows?? Whats the other one they’re doing? A reboot of Greatest American Hero with an Indian woman who drinks tequila a lot??? What? Why?? Just call it something else. Naming them Party of 5 and Greatest American Hero will only cause people to have expectations that wont be met. I’m fine with less white people on tv, but not ok with piggybacking on old ideas and names of shows. The ideas are fine without the old names of old tv shows.
Wow, a reboot? How unusual in this day & age….
How many people will psycho Cody punch out?
I’m no great fan of Cody, but he never punched anyone in the house. Even after they repeatedly harassed and provoked him in an attempt to get him to hit someone and get thrown out.
Of course not, he knew he would get kicked out and not get any money. But you have to admit the guy carries around a lot of hate. He admits it himself, he hates everybody that’s not Jessica.
Yaaas 30 Rock!
Don’t really care about the BB casting on Amazing Race. What is more important is when is it premiering? Same as last season? With this casting, does that mean that they’re doing away with the ‘partnering with strangers’ thing? I hope so.
Po5!! I’d rather have a reunion with the original cast members.
Also, wth 30 Rock is leaving Netflix then? Or has left it?? :( Hulu is THE WORST.
The last day to watch 30Rock on Netflix is September 30.
There are quite a few good series leaving Netflix at the end of September. 30 Rock, Friday Night Lights, The Wonder Years, to name a few.
I’m glad I don’t watch The Amazing Race, ick.
The people over at Fox are playing fast and loose with the term “reboot.”
I hate exclusive streaming rights. It just makes me run towards…alternatives…
30 rock is my go to show on Netflix when I am bored during the occasional dry spell. I seem to be on a cycle where I look forward to new content on Netflix constantly then I watch the new thing I’ve been looking forward to and am then just waiting. Then I’m sad on Fridays Chelsea doesn’t have a new episode. And if it’s a week Samantha Bee is off air!!???! God help me!
I renew Hulu whenever they send me a please come back email and catch up on whatever I’ve missed there and I usually leave it for an additional month just because I forget to cancel.
Also are fall premieres getting later each year?!?! Didn’t shows used to come back in August or at least earlier September?!? Now it’s like late September/early October?!?
I’ll pass on this. I’m thoroughly fed up with reboots that just trade on title recognition of a property and then, to further a political agenda, they change the gender/race/ethnicity of the core characters. Enough.
So they’re letting the transphobic Cody onto another show to give him yet more air time?? Ridiculous.
So it’s a totally different show with the same title? It sounds like it could be good but it’s not Party Of Five.
But will they be Illegals? Have they crossed the borders with a tourist Visa or did they follow the law? What message does the show want to launch?
I am latina, and a huge fan of the original series, but the latino twist of the Salinger’s story it could be another kind of show and name… not my Party of Five.
PoF, as Dawson’s Creek, remains in my favorite period of time,. the 90s.. right know, and maybe because of “This is Us”, Sony wants another emotional drama and also emmy or golden globe award winning show.
So sad, Amy and Christopher, the showrunners, never had another great show as PoF. “Time of your Life” was a waste of my time and also broke Bailey and Sara. I’m still hating those showruners for that
Do i not understand the term reboot? This sounds like a completely different show that happens to have the same name. So disappointing
If anything, it’s more of a reboot of Fresh of the Boat.
How can you call it a “Party of Five” reboot if the entire concept is going to be different?
