Dr. Sharon Mowat Named Co-Physician-In-Chief for Kaiser Permanente's Diablo Area

Sharon Mowat, MD, a pediatrician hospitalist practicing in Walnut Creek and Antioch, began her new role May 1st.

Sharon Mowat, MD, a pediatrician hospitalist practicing in Walnut Creek and Antioch, has been named as the new co-physician-in-chief of Kaiser Permanente’s Diablo Service Area.

Dr. Mowat succeeds Dr. Judy Lively who will retire at the end of June from Kaiser Permanente with nearly 29 years of service. Dr. Mowat will serve alongside Dr. Kenneth Grullon overseeing a team of more than 950 Kaiser Permanente physicians in Central and East Contra Costa County and the Tri-Valley Area of Alameda County.

“It is an honor to help lead such a diverse and experienced group of physicians,” says Dr. Mowat. “I believe that as health care providers we have the responsibility to engage, empower and inspire each other and the communities we serve. I look forward to building upon the successes our hospitals have achieved and enhancing the patient experience for all of our members and patients in the Diablo Area.”

Dr. Mowat joined The Permanente Medical Group in 2002. She has held a number of leadership roles within Kaiser Permanente’s Diablo Area: Associate Physician in Chief for Technology, Associate Physician in Chief of Inpatient Pediatrics and Associate Physician in Chief for Human Resources and Physician Education & Development.

Dr. Mowat received her medical degree at Northwestern University School of Medicine in Chicago. She completed her residency at the University of California, San Francisco Medical Center and she is board certified in Pediatrics.

She is married with two children. Her family lives in Danville.

Dr. Mowat assumed her new role on May 1, 2017.
