Down on Main Street: Stroll, Shop and Savor

Midtown Park - Houston

Many cities and towns throughout the United States have a ‘Main Street,’ but it’s a safe bet that few can match Houston’s Main Street for its diversity of shopping, dining, nightlife and entertainment. For those living at The Isabella at Midtown, the exploration of it all starts when they step out the door.

Along Main Street, choose from a world of culinary choices and the trendiest night spots, or find the necessary sundry, grocery and clothing retailers, all without the hassle of driving and parking. It’s one of the many perks of having a Main Street address.

Midtown is one of the most walkable neighborhoods in Houston, earning an “86/Very Walkable” from Walk Score. On a beautiful, day, the leisurely 45-minute walk up Main could provide some healthy exercise. That is, if you weren’t stopping every five minutes to check out another cool shop, great eatery or funky art gallery. Not a walker? Midtown boasts high marks for biking and light rail, too.

So, whether it’s a walk, pedal or ride, the typical day of a lucky Midtown resident is “mainly” one of fun, convenience and opportunity.

Double Trouble - Houston

Imagine waking up Saturday morning. A look out your window reveals Main Street is already buzzing. You certainly have options and -- on occasion – obligations. Nothing major, just the to-do list that’s caught up with you from a busy week. A simple walk down Main allows you to accomplish some of those tasks, as well as enjoy all that living in the heart of the city offers.

Start the day by making your shopping list over a cup (or three) of coffee at Double Trouble Caffeine and Cocktails. What to do about your friend’s upcoming birthday? Just next door is My Flaming Heart for unique gifts or Sig’s Lagoon for a collectible vinyl.

After the “must do,” it’s time for the “want to” – LUNCH! So many choices are just down the street. Will it be “katfish & grits” at the breakfast klub, the famous spring rolls at Mai’s Restaurant or tacos-to-go at Tacos A Go Go?

The Ensemble Theatre - Houston

In the afternoon, go ahead and take the dog for a run at Midtown Park, but then it’s time to focus on you. Get your heart rate up with Zumba at 24 Hour Fitness or find your center at Yoga One Studios, both just a few steps from Main Street.

On your way home, wander in and out of the numerous art and theater venues like Art Palace, The Ensemble Theatre and Devin Borden Gallery, or see what’s on at MATCH, Midtown Arts & Theater Center Houston.

When the sun goes down, it’s time to get dressed up for a night out! There are several great spots for dancing – Cle, Barbarella or Continental Club. If you prefer to chill over a cocktail or craft beer, nearby options like Nouveau Antique Art Bar, Mongoose versus Cobra or Wooster’s Garden are just a few minutes away. You can also go back to Midtown Park for dinner by the park, which features regular celebrations and occasional live, outdoor shows.

Continental Club - Houston

All too soon it's time to call it a night. Thankfully, there's no need to wander around a parking lot fumbling for your keys. If you're a resident of The Isabella at Midtown, just mosey a few blocks along well-lit Main Street or hop on the METRORail to find the comfots of your own home.
