Former President Barack Obama on Monday tweeted a tribute to fallen soldiers after President Donald Trump used his Memorial Day tweet to praise himself.

In a Monday morning tweet, Trump wished the country a "Happy Memorial Day" before extolling the accomplishments of his own administration.

Several hours later, Obama put the focus directly on the sacrifices of service members.

"We can never truly repay the debt we owe our fallen heroes", the former president wrote. "But we can remember them, honor their sacrifice, and affirm in our own lives those enduring ideals of justice, equality, and opportunity for which generations of Americans have given that last full measure of devotion."
