According to DOVVSU, the act could qualify as an offence if it is causing emotional stress to husbands.

It is a punishable offence under the Domestic Violence Act 732 of 2007, the Central Regional Coordinator of DOVVSU, Mr George Appiah-Sakyi, says.

“If your wife wears jeans to sleep and causing you emotional abuse it’s an offence and you can report her to DOVVSU,” he stated.

He made this known at a with leaders of churches in the Cape Coast Metropolis on terrorism and other security issues.

He also observed that men in Ghana risk serving a two-year jail sentence if they refuse to eat food prepared by their wives as it amounts to an offence under the country's domestic violence laws.

Other offenses punishable under the Act include husbands making their wives unhappy, causing them emotional pain and coming home late.

Mr Appiah-Sakyi said one could be sentenced to a maximum of two years imprisonment or to a fine of 500 penalty unit which is equivalent to GH¢6,000 or both.
