Panaji: The Goa government on Friday executed a trilateral Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Department of Bio-Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India (GoI) and Nobel Media, Sweden to hold the ‘Nobel Prize Series — India 2018 (Science Impacts Life)’ to be held from February 1-28 next year along with a month-long exhibition brought from Nobel Museum, Sweden. The Nobel series has earlier been organised in Gujarat.
The event will be jointly organised by Department of Bio-Technology, Ministry of Science and Technology, Government of India in collaboration with Nobel Media, Sweden and Department of Science and Technology. Vijay Raghavan, Director, Department of Biotechnology, Ministry of Science and Technology, GoI, said the Ministry is very excited to host the event in Goa.
“The employability of the world is merging towards robotics, automation etc. In order to be ready for this, the young generation needs to have a strong foundation of science. Goa has been extraordinarily adventurous in taking on changes in the world. This scientific cynosure will allow the young Goan to emulate Nobel laureates around the world and to take on formidable challenges against any odds in the future,” he said.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar said, “Science has been my strength and weakness since I believe that every aspect in the world, including Governance is a scientific exercise. Science is logical and the best thing that has happened to mankind. It is very important to encourage people towards pure science rather than technology.”
“We must show the world how the possibilities have changed the world by using science as a tool. This event will surely generate good science students,” Mr. Parrikar said, and added, “This event is very important for educational upgradation.”
The CEO of Nobel Media AB, Sweden, Mattias Fyrenius, said, “This event should be seen as a celebration of science and education,” and added that the event will consist of exhibition from the Nobel Museum and Nobel dialogues in which Nobel laureates will interact with school children and teachers.
