Denver's in the top 10 in the U.S. in a new report, the "top 10 metro areas for job accessibility by transit."

When it comes to the ability to get to work by mass transit, Denver ranks in the nation's top 10 cities.

That's according to a new report by the University of Minnesota, which ranked Denver No. 10 nationally when it comes to the "top 10 metro areas for job accessibility by transit."

The nation's 49 largest cities were ranked by the study, which ranked New York No. 1 in the country, followed by San Francisco, Chicago, Washington, Los Angeles,. Boston, Philadelphia, Seattle and San Jose.

"Transit is an essential transportation service for many Americans, and we directly compare the accessibility performance of America’s largest metropolitan areas," said Andrew Owen, director of Accessibility Observatory at the University of Minnesota, in a statement.

According to the report, Denver's grew its transit-oriented job base by 5.14 percent from 2015 to 2016, the 14th-highest growth rate in the country.

"Seattle and Denver both have rapidly expanding light rail systems, supported by extensive and frequent bus networks," according to the report.

Last week, the Regional Transportation District said its newly renovated Civic Center Station will open on Dec. 17.

And earlier this month it was reported that during the last 12 years, RTD's FasTracks project has pumped more than $1 billion into the region’s small business community.
