Motorcyclist dies after crash with car ‘travelling wrong way’ on East Kilbride Expressway as driver is arrested on the A725

All lanes have been shut down following the collision around 6.45am this morning, with cops confirming the male motorbike driver was pronounced dead at the scene

A MOTORCYCLIST has died following a crash with a car "travelling the wrong way" on the East Kilbride Expressway.

Cops were called to the smash on the A725 road at Blantyre, near Glasgow, just before 7am this morning.

It's understood a vehicle was seen driving in the wrong direction before collision.

Officers have now confirmed that the male driver of the motorbike has died following the incident, while the driver of the car has been arrested.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 6.45am on Saturday 10 November 2018, police were called to a report of a serious road crash involving a car and a motorbike on the A725 East Kilbride Expressway.

"The car appears to have been travelling in the wrong direction on the carriageway when the collision occurred.

"Emergency services attended and the male motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The male driver of the car was arrested at the scene and subsequently taken to Hairmyres Hospital for treatment.

"The road will be closed for some time and motorists are being advised to use alternative travel routes.

"Enquiries are ongoing and anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to contact the Divisional Road Policing Unit based at Motherwell via 101, quoting incident number 0927 of Saturday 10 November 2018."
