Japanese publication 4Gamer recently had the opportunity to speak to Shin Megami Tensei series Producer Kazuyuki Yamai. He says that because this is the first time in a long while that Shin Megami Tensei will be on a home console he wants it developed properly for the hardware and not have any compromises. The game is currently in ‘scrap and build’ phase and Yamai would like a reveal as soon as possible, but asks fans to be patient.

Scrap and build?
}{ It’s where they scrap the idea of making a game for peasants and build it for PC instead… }{
Oh @PC Military Commander Sid. You and you Rebel Alliance better be ready for your day of reckoning. The First Order will not stand for that insult for long
}{ You appear to have this confused with Star Wars… I am not a rebel… PC’s are what comprise your peasantry diversions away from true power, not the other way round… }{
You wish, Your Evilness.
I don’t know the answer to your question, but here’s what I found on google.
For those unfamiliar with the “scrap and build” expression, it’s actually rather typical of Japan. It’s a very relevant local concept for architecture and urban development: instead of renovating buildings, the Japanese often prefer to knocking them down and build completely new ones on the land. Basically, the team is in a phase of iteration and trial and error. It definitely fits the “no compromise” policy mentioned by Yamai-san.
