Summertime … and the living is easy.

Unless you’re dating the next big pop star,
and your meddling parents are holding you hostage a thousand miles away.

After spending nine months with Jonathan, being apart is harder than I expected.
When I finally get to California for a two week visit—
with my older sister in tow as a chaperone—
my welcome from his mom and manager is colder than I expected.
They think I’m a distraction.
And their thinly veiled barbs make the city of angels
feel more like the city of vipers.
Despite interference and roadblocks,
the summer is full of new opportunities
and our time together is everything I want it to be.
But when the summer ends, I’m headed back to college
while Jonathan starts his North American tour.

I knew dating a popstar wasn’t going to be easy,
but how am I going to handle spending even more time apart?

Again, I am impressed and really enjoying this new series setup from Jerica MacMillan. I love that Gabby and Jonathan's story is being told across three books. I feel like this story is so big and full of so much emotion and obstacles for the couple to deal with and attempt to overcome that there is no way one book would have done it justice. And having just finished book two in the series, I am left with conflicting feelings.

On the one hand I am extremely satisfied with the individual development of Gabby and of Jonathan. To see how they are growing as musicians and performers. How they are standing up for themselves and each other and what they want. I'm also happy to see how they have developed as a couple. To see how they handle the new stresses that have been thrown their way. But on the other hand I am stressed and anxious that I will have to wait to see what comes next. The ending of book two was perfect and yet the fact that I don't already have book three ready to immediately jump into so that I can get the answers I need saddens me. But it's the sadness most readers experience when they have just finished a good book and either have to wait for the next in the series, or they had to say good by for now to those characters. It's a good sadness.

I grew to love these two characters even more after reading this book and I am left with all kinds of thoughts and ideas swirling through my head as to how things can possibly be resolved happily for them, but I have high hopes that Jerica will deliver a fantastic book three that will leave me not only happy with the conclusion of Jonathan and Gabby's story, but anxious for who ever is next in line to find their match. That is another thing to look forward to with so many good secondary character presented. Either way, I am still firmly a fan of this author and can't wait for her next book.

This is the second book from the series Songs and Sonatas. You need to read the first book before you read this one because this book starts right where the first one left off. I love pop star romance but this author makes me fall in love with it even more. I could not wait to start this book. I am hooked on Gabby and Jonathan’s story. This book kept me glued to my Kindle all night long. I devoured this book in only a matter of hours.

Gabby has been missing Jonathan for almost a month but summer is coming. She is so excited to see him again but her parents want her to stay home for the summer. After of a lot of persuading Gabby gets to go to California for a couple of weeks. She also has to bring her older sister to watch over her. Gabby can’t stay with Jonathan so she is staying at his apartment and he is staying at his parent’s house. She is loving the time with Jonathan and doesn’t want to go home. Gabby is then called on a offer she can’t refuse. She is so happy when she gets to stay longer. Gabby has only two problems ,Jonathan’s mother and manager. They both think that Gabby is a distraction and will go away eventually. Will Gabby’s and Jonathan’s love be strong enough to survive or will it be too hard to keep together?

This story is absolutely amazing. You will get all of the feels. I felt happy and then I would get upset due to some of the problems that this couple had. The storyline has it all romance, deceit, and forgiveness. You will fall in love with these characters all over again. Gabby is so sweet and genuine. She loves the true Jonathan and not the material things. Jonathan is a gorgeous pop star that has a good heart. He loves his family and he doesn’t take his fame for granted. The way he treats Gabby will make your heart melt. Gabby and Jonathan have some steamy scenes that will make your temperature rise. This book has some twists and turns I didn’t see coming. This talented author sure knows how to keep you on your toes. I love that this author wrote this book in both of the characters points of views. This gives you more of a personal connection and what the characters are thinking. I can’t wait to see what happens to my new favorite couple next.

I received a copy and voluntarily left a review.

Jerica MacMillian's latest novel, Development, finds us back in Gabby and Jonathon's tumultuous ride through their new love and musical journey. If you thought their story was full of angst, passion, and paparazzi in Double Exposition, get prepared for more drama, musical madness, and lots and lots of heat! These string players will be manipulating more than just their instruments, they will also be playing with reader's hearts!

My fascination with Gabby is still going strong watching her explore a new niche in the music world. I enjoyed seeing her negotiate with her parents who still want to keep her a little girl, and admiring the way she is learning to fit into her boyfriend's new world full of cameras and fame. She is a young woman on the rise of something great and is not willing to back down from her own dreams or give up on her love for Jonathon, no matter what obstacles remain. She is a bad ass violinist who is fearless in going after both success and matters of the heart!

Jonathon is learning that being in show business while grown, isn't going to be without its challenges either. Especially in the midst of a new love that he just can't live without and precious time to spend with her. He soon learns that it is going to be hard to pursue his dreams and also be with Gabby. But everything worth doing is not easy...right! Jonathon shows that there is more to him than just chiseled abs and musical talent and he will leave you singing his praises and falling ever harder for him!

Jerica MacMillan gives us another outstanding musical performance starring a talented, head strong couple that will stand up to all the odds to be together. I highly recommend both Double Exposition and Development for a glimpse into a love that will flourish even surrounded by fame and all the problems that come with it. I adore the Songs and Sonatas series and cannot wait to experience their finale that I am sure will leave us all standing at ovation, clapping with our hearts in our eyes!

Development (Songs and Sontas Book 2) by Jerica MacMillan is the second book in her Songs and Sontas series. I highly suggest that you read the first book before this one as this one picks up where the first one left off with Gabby and Jonathan's story. Their story was hot, sexy, steamy in the first book and it continues to be in this one. I have enjoyed this author's books from the first one I have picked up. She never lets me down in her books and I know what I am getting every time I pick one up. This story pulled me in right from the beginning and kept me engaged throughout the story. These characters will take you on a roller coaster ride of various emotions that you won't be able to put down. In this installment of this series Gabby and Jonathan are still trying to prove to everyone that their love is real and isn't going anywhere. Life will through struggles at them but is their love strong enough to break through them? As their musical careers grow will it break them apart? One of my favorite parts with these characters is to see them grow and how strong their determination is. Their love is strong but sometimes love can not stand the stress of life. I found myself hoping that these two find their HEA. These two really are great together, they have such great chemistry. You will just have to read this series to find out what I mean with them. They just grow throughout this story that makes them that much stronger. The secondary characters are just as great in this story. I don't think it would be the same story without them. I highly recommend this book as I know you will want to see what happens with Gabby and Jonathan and the challenges and battles life puts them through will amaze you.

Development by Jerica MacMillan a five-star read that will leave you wanting more. This is the second book in the Songs and Sonatas series and you do have to have read the first book Double Exposition first, as this story picks up right where the last one left off. Jonathan and Gabby’s relationship has grown along with my love of music, they both just have a way that makes you fall in love right alongside them. They both support each other, but they are both at such vastly different points in their lives, Jonathan is about to become a rock-star and Gabby is a student set to finish her degree, they will have to face time apart for them both to get what they want and that starts with the summer break, this summer break will make or break them and in Gabby’s case it may just make her into the woman she will become. Relationships are hard enough but when your folks are all against you it can make you fight to prove your love is worth it, or cause too much drama, I won’t tell you what happens, but I will say I can’t wait for book three to find out where this author will take us next. This journey has been one filled with love, passion and drama and I’m sure there more to come.

Development is Book 2 of the Songs and Sonatas series and is NOT a stand-alone. It picks right up where Double Exposition left off.

Gabby and Jonathan are navigating their relationship and life with music as best they can. The characters continue to grow and mature. This is naturally morphing from YA to NA and I think Development is the perfect arch for this trilogy.

This is not a series I would recommend to my young cousins because of the open door sex, but I would absolutely recommend it to friends.

I am very much looking forward to the conclusion of this trilogy.

This book had me all up in my feelings. I'm so happy for Gabby and Jonathan but at the same time sad. It seems like the odds are stacked against them. Not to mention everyone around them. I loved watching the development of their love and their careers throughout this book. Jerica just makes you feel so deeply for her characters. I can't wait to see how Jonathan and Gabby handle his being on your. I think their relationship is pretty solid but I guess we'll see in the next book.

Oh so good

I enjoyed this continuation of Jonathan and Gabby's story. The story really flows and we are introduced to Jonathan's brothers a little bit and Charlie (Charlotte), a popstar that Jonathan has known since he got started in music. I really hope to see more of her as the series progresses.

Another great read by Jerica MacMillan. I’m truly enjoying this series and the storyline with the two different career tracks for these young musicians. The areas and demands they both have to navigate their relationship through will either make or break them. I can’t wait to read the next installment to see what happens and what they both go through in the process!

The Songs and Sonatas series is Jerica MacMillan’s best work yet! I love, love, love that this is so much more than a college romance. A rock star and a classical violinist? Yes, please!
Before I go any further … please don’t be put off that this series is the story of one couple, told over the course of three books. It’s handled brilliantly. The writing is sigh-worthy, and the characters are fabulously developed. I love that each book takes us to the next step in Jonathan and Gabby’s relationship as it blossoms into a lasting love.
Book one, Double Exposition, is all the feels, all the anticipation, all the excitement of new love. I finished it with a sigh of contentment, excited about all the upcoming possibilities. And I was not disappointed.
Development seamlessly picks up where Double Exposition left us. Their love is deeper, the stakes are higher, and more obstacles are thrown their way––Gabby is back at Marycliff, Jonathan is on tour, they are apart more than together, and parents are meddling. And through it all, Gabby is faced with some unexpected choices and tough decisions. I love watching her mature from a wide-eyed freshman to a confident and talented young woman who knows what she wants and stays on the path to get it. And I love Jonathan for her! He may not be without his flaws, but he will do anything for his girl.
I’m on pins and needles to see where the conclusion to this awesome story will take us! Five swoony stars to Development!

Okay read...but so frustrating

I loved book 1. Jonathan and Gabby were wonderful together, and I wanted to find out more.

Book 2 basically just made me angry and frustrated. I skimmed through most of it because I wanted to know what happened, but I was not a big fan of the story for the first probably 60-ish% of the book.

Gabby is 19 years old, about to be a sophomore in college, and yet her parents treat her like she's 12 -- and the worst part is, she lets them. She spends part of her summer with them in Texas, then decides she wants to go see Jonathan for the rest of the summer in California since he can't travel to her. He even says he'll take care of everything and buy her ticket. Instead of having a backbone and telling her parents she -- as a mature adult -- is going to go spend the remainder her summer with Jonathan, she begs them to "let" her go. They are resistant and finally relent -- but only if she stays in Jonathan's apartment while he stays at his parents' house, only if her older sister goes along to supervise them, and only if the visit is just for two weeks. ...She's an adult. They've already been sleeping together pretty much daily for nine months by the end of the last book. I get that she doesn't want to alienate her parents, but this was over the top ridiculous and controlling behavior from parents over their adult child, and it irritated me to no end.

Then on top of that, she lets his manager, his mother, and others try to influence their relationship. There are a LOT of struggles for them in this book.

That said, the writing is good, and you do learn a lot about the characters in this book. I'm hoping for the best for them and will continue on to the third book. Hopefully it's better and Gabby grows more of a backbone in it. I'm hoping for a HEA but right now I'm frustrated with Gabby and all the outside influences.

Not a standalone. You must read books 1 and 3 with this.

Development is the second book in the Songs and Sonatas series by Jerica MacMillan. It is a continuation from the first book, so I recommend reading that book before starting on this one.
This story picks up where the first one left off. It is summer vacation, and Jonathan is in California, which may as well be a world away, in the process of preparing for his upcoming tour. After a little negotiation with her parent, and agreeing with their terms, Gabby finally joins Jonathan there. She’s excited to see him again and Jonathan is so happy to have her with him again. But not everyone is as happy about their relationship, which puts added pressure on these two young lovers. Add in a meddling mother, a less than friendly agent, all the media scrutiny- and it’s a wonder they’ve even made it this far.
An opportunity presents itself for Gabby, which opens up a few unexpected doors for her, and also allows her to extend her stay with Jonathan. But, all too soon summer comes to an end and Gabby has to return home. How will they make this long-distance relationship work, especially when he sets off on his tour?
Another great instalment in this fantastic series. I loved how Ms. MacMillan was able to introduce some real character growth and development into this story. We see Gabby slowly beginning to stand in her own power a little more- as well as both Jonathan and Gabby growing both personally and professionally. They really are so great together and I can’t help but cheer them on from the sidelines.
Again, I dived right into book three before I even thought about reviews- because I couldn’t wait to find out what happens next.

Thank you, Ms. MacMillan!

Development is the 2nd book in the Songs and Sonatas series. In Development, we pick up with Jonathan and Gabby where we left off in Double Exposition. Jonathan is in Los Angeles and Gabby is in Texas on summer break. The two are eager to spend time together. Jonathan is continuing to work on his re-emerging music career and the two must navigate the negativity thrown their way. Gabby still faces insecurities about both her musical ability and her relationship.

Development gives us more of a glimpse of both of their families and the relationships they each have with them. We see that Jonathan and Gabby continue their steamy, passionate relationship. While Gabby still has some self-doubt, she is developing into a more mature person. Both of them have a lot of opportunities that are coming their way with will bring with them new obstacles and developments in their relationship. You know that there is about to be more stress added to their relationship. We won’t find out what that will be until the next book in the series.

As in the first book of the series, Development was told from an alternating point of view, which gives a better understanding what each character is thinking. I really liked this addition to the series, we are given a good look at where Jonathan and Gabby are in their relationship and a glimpse of what is to come for the pair. I can’t wait for the third installment in the series.

Development is the second book in Jerica MacMillan’s Songs and Sonatas series. I really loved this book – it’s great to read about a young musician exploring her gifts and beginning to build her career. And the romantic subplot is alright as well!
The romance is very well written and it’s lovely to see the relationship developing more steadily over several books. Despite differences in age and career stages, there isn’t too much of a sense of power imbalance and there are good levels of communication most of the time. It’s a healthy relationship where both parties prioritise a balance between their relationship and pursuing their musical careers, which is really wonderful to read!
As a musician, I love how much detail MacMillan goes into in both Jonathan and Gabby’s musical activities. Jonathan is a singer-songwriter and Gabby is training as a classical violinist, although in this book she begins to expand her horizons into different genres and musical activities. I particularly love reading the parts when things are really working for them creatively – it makes me feel so happy!
For me this book gets a solid five out of five stars. I would (and probably will) recommend it to musical friends who enjoy romance. Non-musicians would enjoy it too as, although it goes into a lot of detail, the language is not too niche and it gives a fun insight into various aspects of the music industry. It is worth starting with the first book, Double Exposition.

Development by Jerica MacMillan Review

This is the second book from the series Songs and Sonats.  You need to read the first book before you read this one because this book starts right where the first one left off.

As summer is under the way, Gabby has been missing Jonathan for almost a month now. She is so excited to see him again but her parents want her to stay home for the summer. After further persuasion, Gabby gets to go to California for a couple of weeks.

In this second part, we see the relationship of Jonathan and Gabby's put in the ultimate test. Music brought them together, will music be the very thing that breaks them?

They both support each other, but they are both at such vastly different points in their lives, Jonathan is about to become a rock-star and Gabby is a student set to finish her degree. This summer break will make or break them and in Gabby's case it may just make her into the woman she will become.

Relationships are hard enough but when your folks are all against you it can make you fight to prove your love is worth it, or cause too much drama, I won't tell you what happens but I will say I can't wait for book three to find out where this author will take us next. This journey has been one filled with love, passion and drama and I'm sure there more to come.

Will Gabby's and Jonathan's love be strong enough to survive or will it be too hard to keep together?

Gabby is back in Texas with her parents and Jonathan is in California working on his debut album since the end of the school year. Gabby and Jonathan wants to be together but Gabby's parents aren't very open to Gabby going all the way to California.

A compromise is reached with Gabby's parents where Gabby is able to go to LA to see Jonathan. Gabby and Jonathan spend time together and Jonathan also brings Gabby to his recording sessions and asks her for input. It is at the recording session that Gabby gets a chance to use her musical talent and she is nervous and excited.

Gabby is open to opportunities that she never thought she would consider for her musical career. These opportunities allows Gabby to stay in LA with Jonathan and they are able to spend more time together.

Parental interference causes issues for the happy couple and they must decide if they will continue with their relationship whether their families approve or not. Gabby and Jonathan must decide how they can continue their relationship once Gabby goes back to school and Jonathan starts his concert tour. They are determine to work on their relationship despite all the obstacles that continue to come their way.

I can't wait to see what happens next when Gabby goes back to school and Jonathan starts his concert tour!

Development- Jerica MacMillan

5-star review

Development by Jerica MacMillan is a fantastic rockstar romance. This is the second installment in her series Songs and Sonatas. This series, unlike her others, focuses on one couple, Jonathan and Gabby, and for that I couldn't be happier. Their love story is beautiful and so real, and I love being able to read it!

This book cannot be read as a standalone as it starts off right where book one, Double Exposition, left off. So, I would highly suggest reading them in order. I really enjoyed reading Double Exposition, but I absolutely loved Development. I loved getting to know Gabby and Jonathan on a deeper level as a couple and as individuals. This story opens up many doors for the two of them and I can't wait to see how it all plays out.

This story like all Jerica's other work is perfectly detailed making it an easy read. I learned a lot more about music since reading this series and I can say that I have a much better appreciation for all the hard work that goes into it. I really love that she went into so much detail about the music aspect of their story as it plays such a big integral part.

I absolutely can't wait to read the final book in this series, Recapitulation, to find out how Gabby and Jonathan's story plays out.

I would definitely recommend this book and series to others!

4.5 Stars!!

*Please note that Development picks up where Double Exposition ends. You need to have read book one to get all the feels of book 2*

Part 2 of the Songs and Sonatas books was amazing! The more I read about Jonathan and Gabby the more I just fall in love with them.

Jonathans music career is just about to explode. So before he goes on tour, he and Gabby manage to convince her parents that Gabby can visit him in California for two weeks.

When Gabby gets there, you can actually feel their relationship blossom. Their time apart made the stronger and I love the way they both support each other. Both have each other’s backs and will stop at nothing to make sure the other one is okay and making the most of every opportunity given to them.

Gabby came into her own in this book, I felt like her time in California has possibly shaped her into the women she is about to become. I’m not sure if her lack of confidence is because she has to justify her every move to her parents or the fact that she is 19 with an old soul but I can’t wait to see where book 3 takes her and Jonathan.

Loved it, highly recommend it and as I said, cannot wait for the next book!! Well done Jerica!

Development
By Jerica MacMillan
5 stars

I have read quite a few books by this author now and every single one has been a 5 star read for me. I lose myself in her writing from the very first page. She creates such amazing characters that you can’t help but fall in love with and story plots that keep my interest from beginning to end.
Development is the second book in the Songs and Sonata’s series and the next part in Gabby and Jonathon’s story. I really do love these two, there’s just something about the both of them that draws me into their story and lives. They had so much to overcome and so many people to prove their love for each other. I found myself rooting for this couple from the very beginning and I still am! I can’t wait for the next instalment of their story!! Although the story is told over three books it doesn’t feel drawn out. The story is so well written that you do want to just keep reading.
Another fabulous story from this very talented author and I cannot wait to see what happens next for Gabby and Jonathon and also what else Jerica MacMillan comes out with in the future!

Development by Jerica MacMillan is the second novel in her Songs and Sonatas series and let me say What A Fantastic Follow Up! I could not get enough of this book!! In this book you see the relationship between Gabby and Jonathan face so many things and yet the battles don’t break them down. In each of MacMillan’s other books her characters are made of some great stuff, and she continues to show the great character of each of her creations in this book. I love how mature she made Gabby in this book, showing how adult she needed to be with her relationship, and how that maturity led to a better relationship overall. In the music industry you often see relationships portrayed as only physical or too deep but this book really showed a positive relationship with realistic expectations. I can’t wait for the third book in this series! Everything I have read of MacMillan’s in the past has only made me love her writing more, and this series is no exception. I can’t wait to see what else she comes up with.

Development is the second novel in the Songs and Sonata series by Jerica MacMillian. This is my second book by this author.

Starting where the first book left off, Jonathan is now in California and Gabby finishing her freshman year of college.

With summer coming, Jonathan invites her to stay with him, but she knows that her parents won’t agree. They talk about how to convince her parents but they still aren’t sure how to do it.

I was so excited for the next book, but was also apprehensive but I really enjoyed it. It was nice to see how Jonathan and Gabby grew not only as a couple more as individuals. It was great to read the development with how they deal with obstacles that come their way.

Like with this first book, I do love their relationship and how it grows. Their love for each other is shown, even when people doubt it. With meddling parents, paparrazi, tabloid gossip, the young couple have a lot to overcome.

I’m excited yet sad to read the last book. I don’t want this series to end. I want more of Jonathan and Gabby.

The descriptive and compelling writing style that I fell in love with in “Double Exposition” continues in book 2 of the Songs and Sonatas series. “Development” picks up after a few weeks and find Gabby and Jonathan separated by miles but still very much in love. The author continues to develop strong characters through action and less telling, which is something I really like. When the characters are the main focus and what drive the story, it is important to make the reader feel as if they are in the room listening as a friend. And Jerica MacMillan accomplishes this beautifully. I also enjoy how when Gabby visits, she has her own life and isn’t just sitting on the edges of Jonathan’s. Her dreams are not taking a backseat even if it would be the easiest route. I do have a few questions and opinions, but since this is a three-book arc I will hold off in case everything is answered. There is no over the top drama, just an emotional build that keeps the reader glued to their book.

The series is told in alternating points of view and should be read in order.

Development by Jerica MacMillan is the second book in the Songs and Sonatas series. It picks up straight after the first book ends so this series must be read in order. As with all of this authors books Development is another fantastic addition to her repertoire.

Following Jonathan and Gabby on their journey this book shows the next stage in their relationship. With new challenges and new opportunities not everything is plain sailing for them.
Their main issue initially stems from the fact they are thousands of miles apart, attempting to make a long distance relationship work.

Given the fact this book isn’t a standalone I won’t delve anymore into the description. However I can state that this book is just as good as the first and just as good as anything I have read by Jerica MacMillan. Showcasing the writing style I have fallen in love with along with two characters I loved reading about this book was everything I had hoped for.
If you haven’t already discovered her I cannot recommend this series enough and everything this author has produced.

Truly remarkable storytelling. As I finished the story I knew that my life will not be the same again. I have fallen for this author's writing and cannot wait to devour the next book. The characters were truly inspirational and the storyline was compelling.

It is amazingly intense and the author prepares you for the journey for you to take alongside the characters really well. The characters and story development were perfectly done. This book was extremely well written and has fast become one of my favourites of all time. This book was full of many twists and turns that will keep you guessing what is going to happen until the very end. I devoured it in one sitting. Incredible work!! I absolutely adored reading this book and will be one clicking the rest of this authors work.

The way the author makes you feel everything that the character is experiencing is unlike any other.

I will definitely be recommending this author to everyone I know. Definitely one awesome book to pick up and I can see this author going from strength to strength.

I liked this one better than the first.
It starts where Double Exposition finished off - Jonathon has graduated and he and Gabby are spending their summer apart while he spends time in the studio and she spends time with her family. I felt quite hopeful for a lot of this book - everything comes together for Gabby - she sees a new side of the music that she didn't fully appreciate in her classical cocoon - and this certainly helps her grow and gain confidence. This book is key to the decisions that Gabby makes in the third book and the relationships outside of academia are crucial in developing her personality and making her decisions believable. The timeframe for this book is relatively short in this book - just 3 months from start to finish - and although not a huge amount happened, I felt it was really key to explore this part of Gabby's development into adulthood. As with the first, I could have done with more of the chemistry between J and G outside of the bedroom - I wanted more dates, more focus on what they were as a couple.
Well-written and enjoyable read.

I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. This is the 2nd part to this series. It is summer & Jonathon has gone home to LA to start on his career. Gabby has gone to Texas to her family. They manage to convince her parents to let her go there for 2 weeks as long as her sister comes along & he stays at his parents home. Gabby ends up getting a break in her musical career also by getting some jobs playing her violin & also getting to continue her lessons too. She also kind of starts composing some too. She is given some suggestions to consider doing composition also. Meanwhile, she & Jonathon are still strongly in love. However, his mom & his manager seem to think that she will be a distraction for him while he is on tour & she is in school. His mother even tries to convince her she must break up with him even if she wants to further her musical career. What will happen when she goes back to school & he goes on the road? I just love this series & can’t wait for the rest.
