He's a British rock star.
And my stepbrother.
What can go wrong?

He called himself Spider. I just knew him as the sinfully gorgeous guy with eyes of fire that fate sat next to me on the airplane. I didn’t know who he really was…rock star…my stepbrother.

He kissed me because he thought we’d never see each other again. We would.

Everyone warned me about him.
They said he was ruthless and cold and screwed up.
They said he’d leave me with a hole in my heart.

Maybe I should have listened.
Maybe I should have built up a fortress to keep him out.
But I crumbled instead.

Some have said there's an unbreakable thread that connects those who are destined to meet. If that’s true, then the moment he sat next to me, we were bound together forever.

He just had to figure it out before it’s too late…

Spider's been out for three months! Thank you for the reviews/ratings! :)

From Wall Street Journal bestselling author Ilsa Madden-Mills comes a new standalone romance about a flawed hero and the woman he can’t forget.

"She crossed my path and changed my whole direction."

He calls himself Spider.

I just know him as the sinfully gorgeous guy with eyes of fire that fate places next to me on the airplane.

I didn’t know who he really was…British bad boy…cocky rock star…my stepbrother.

He kissed me because he thought he’d never see me again. He would.

Everyone warned me about him.
They told me he was careless and ruthless and screwed up.
They said he’d leave me with a hole in my heart.

Maybe I should have listened.
Maybe I should have built a fortress to keep him out.
But I crumbled instead.

They say an unbreakable thread connects those who are destined to meet. If that’s true, then the moment he sat next to me, we were bound together forever.

He just had to figure it out before it’s too late…

I get a buzz from the connection that’s always been between us, that knowledge that she and I are two parts of a whole. I let out an exhale. I’m nothing without this. Without her.

SPIDER is one of those books that once you start it, you simply won’t be able to put down till you get to the end. It has so many of my favorite tropes that there was no way I wasn’t going to fall madly in love with this book! Get ready for an addictive story involving a gorgeous bad boy British rocker and his beautiful and vivacious little step-sister. This is one seriously angsty second chance romance that left my heart soaring by the time I got to the end.

Rose is a young woman who had a rough start in life. In her early childhood years, there were very few people who showed her true kindness, one was her grandmother who taught her to believe in herself and the other was a beautiful boy who offered her help during one of the lowest points of her life. Years later she is adopted by a woman who provides a stable environment and the best education that money can buy. Rose is months away from graduating High School and her dream is to attend New York University in the fall. On a flight back from New York City to Dallas, a gorgeous British Rock God named Spider ends up in the seat next to hers. There’s an electric undercurrent between them from the moment their eyes lock on each other. They both have this odd sense of familiarity. Flirtatious banter results in a passionate all-consuming kiss that knocks the wind out of the both of them, but soon enough they reach their destination and head off expecting to never set eyes on each other again. When they get to baggage claim the two are in for a huge shock when it turns out Rose’s adopted mother is Spider’s soon to be step-mom.

Spider is devilishly charming and has no problem with the ladies, but he uses sex as a quick fix and no one has ever gotten inside his heart. His childhood is plagued by loss and sadness. He became addicted to drugs during his teenage years, and at twenty-two, he hasn’t been able to kick the habit even after several stints at different rehab facilities. His relationship with his father has been strained and the atmosphere is filled with tension when they all arrive back home. Spider’s dad can see the looks that pass between Rose and his son and he’s not having any of it. He warns Spider to keep away from Rose.

As hard as he tries there is something about Rose that he can’t resist. The two are like magnets that have a strong pull towards each other. Just when Spider and Rose are about to give in to their feelings, things come crashing down on them in spectacular fashion and Spider is forced to push Rose out of his life. It’s not at all what he wants and completely soul-shattering when it happens. The angst from this point on in the story is quite unbearable. But deep down you will realize that Spider needs to deal with his demons and conquer them before he can be any good for Rose because even though he’s breathtakingly beautiful, your heart will belong to Rose and want only the best that life can offer her.

Years later we find that Rose has accomplished her dreams. She’s now taking graduate courses at NYU and dating her college sweetheart. It took nearly four years but Spider is clean and is a world-renowned Rock Star. But no amount of time or distance has diminished his feelings for Rose and he’s on a mission to win her back. Will he be able to get a second chance with his one true love?

Here are my overall ratings on the book:

Hero: 4.5
Heroine: 5
Plot: 4.5
Angst: 5
Steam: 4.5
Chemistry Between Hero & Heroine: 5

SPIDER is currently available and I highly recommend it. I promise you will get sucked in by this amazing story!

I can only give this book a 3 stars...mainly because it has a big pet peeve of mine, and once the issue happened I became emotionally detached from the hero and heroine. In the case of Spider and Rose, Spider ended up sleeping with a women after he had met Rose. It is a huge no no for me in the romance books that I read, that the hero sees his "love" and does not sleep with any woman after he lays his eyes on his woman. I realize that may seem old fashioned to some...but it is ME, and my biggest peeve. Once Spider did what he did....and more than once....I was then quite emotionally withdrawn from what the outcome was going to be for him and Rose.

I will say though, that the last bit of the story, when he decided to clean up his act...it was an enjoyable story. The writing was done very well, and I know a lot of readers who would really enjoy this one. It includes the step brother/sister theme, as well as a rock star one. So, if you are a reader who can over look the hero sleeping with other people during some of the story, then this one might be up your alley.

As for me, I didn't love it...nor did I hate it...I will give it a three stars and leave it at that. Please do read some of the other reviews though, as there are a lot of high reviews for "Spider!!"

My soulmate gr friend Bookylicious read this book and told me to stay away from it as she is sure that I would strangle the hero to his death and she is sure that I would hate the heroine for being so weak and easy. So, I trust her and pass this book!

What I have learnt from my friend is more than enough to pull my hair so I don't need the extended version of it.

I’ve never been much of a cover whore, but this shit hot cover had me at first glance! I mean, seriously, how could I turn away from this sexiness? Couple that with the fact that Ilsa Madden Mills knows how to do New Adult perfectly. My ever growing TBR never stood a chance!

Here’s the breakdown: It’s a story of fate. Finding your one true love in the most unexpected place. Rose meets an unbelievably handsome stranger at a pivotal moment in her life. When they part ways, her life changes. Years later, she meets another handsome stranger on a plane. She’s drawn to him like no other, but knows he is bad news. What’s a girl to do? Take a chance, right? Well, what neither of them know is that he’s also her new step-brother!

What I enjoyed: The prologue and epilogue were life. I loved the feel of each of them. I was immediately drawn in by the epilogue and left completely satisfied after the epilogue.
Having read the Briarwood Academy novellas, I was excited to see the new direction of the story. I’m a sucker for a hot brit and wounded soul. Spider certainly fit the bill. He’s a hot mess at the beginning of the story...actually through a lot of the story. Lol Rose was an exceptional heroine. I loved her spunk and back story. She made the most of her change in circumstances and learned how to stand up for herself. The characters were a major plus.

No one is more shocked by this than I am, but the time jumps (which I’m not typically a fan of) were a big success. I really enjoyed seeing the growth and character development of both main characters, but it was done without a ton of exposition. It was perfectly executed and was a true win in moving the story forward without weighing it down.

I have to say, I misjudged the premise of the story. I thought British rocker and ran with it. While the story wasn’t at all what I expected it was still a fantastic read. It’s a story of love, fate, and fighting against the odds to achieve your dream. Another sweet, and emotionally riveting read from a favored author. Spider is the epitome of an exceptional angsty NA read. Recommended for fans of Stepbrother Romance, Broken Heroes, and Angsty or Emotional reads.

Rockstars and stepbrothers. Couldn’t get more unattainable then that... Add in a meeting in the past, an encounter that leaves a hopeless 11 year old girl hopeful, marking her in an unforgettable way. A sexy first kiss on an airplane 6 years later, I’d say fate had a big hand on that once in a lifetime love. Then enter asshole actions and I wanted to throw my fricken kindle. Yep, can say I really did

I loved this story and I hated this story. I loved the connection between Spider and Rose, I loved how he gave up his love to give her everything, I loved his mission to get clean, although it took awhile. I hated Spider’s whorish actions, I hated the heartbreak, I hated Rose’s lack of compassion towards Trenton. I could list a lot of things I loved and hated in this story but without giving more away, I’ll stop.

I did enjoy this overall, just not my favorite from this author. But the last half of the book, I fell in love with the new man Spider became❤️

Rose had a pretty shitty life growing up. One night, when she was 11, it's so bad at home, she runs away ... and finds ... him. The nice, beautiful, tattooed, teenaged boy who talks kindly to her, gives her some money for food. Tells her to call him if it ever gets really bad at home again.
Her savior.
When she's 17, on her way back home to her adopted mom and her new hubby, she meets him again on the plane. Spider. Only, they don't recognize each other.
There's this huge attraction on both sides. But suddenly things are way more complicated - turns out they're step-siblings! And everybody is warning her away from him - even Spider himself.

What will happen to Rose & Spider?
Will there be a HEA??
READ THE BOOK TO FIND OUT!

I adored this book!

description

First of all - the cover! I LOVE IT!
And then the blurb? Rockstar and stepbrother? YES!!!!! MINE!!!!

Both Rose and Spider are such broken people. They've been through so much in their young lives.
They would be so perfect for each other.
But of course Rose is only 17 and there's much more healing and growing up to be done - seperately - before we can ride off into our happily ever after sunset!
But the reader has an amazing time reading about that journey!
I loved every second of it!

If I had to find something I didn't love-love? Nothing major - I might have wanted a bit more sexiness and a bit more rockstarness. This tiny little spark that would've made this an amazingly epic love story - that was missing a bit for me. Maybe another 50 pages with just something a little ... more or a little something different.
BUT, I really loved it the way it was!

SPIDER was such an adorable YA/NA love story! So full of love, loss, grief, addiction, rockstars, artists, psychologists, parents, stepsiblings, friends, gay bff, horrible private school bi*ches - so many things in this one book - it would make an amazing netflix show!!! ☺
Please run to your nearest amazon for your own SPIDER - this one is MINE!

Tattooed British Bad Boy Rocker!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Narration: 🎧🎧🎧🎧🎧
Romance: 💙💚🖤💜
Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📔
World building: 🌎🌍🌏🌎🌏
Character development: 😁☺️🤬🥵😘

The heroine: Rose - Rose had a terrible childhood in a very bad part of town called tin town until her mother dies when she was 11 and she is eventually adopted by a rich but strict woman. She is on her way to see her adopted mother and try to talk her in to letting Rose attend university in New York.

The Hero(s): Spider - after playing a show in New York and partying like a rockstar, he wakes up hungover and finds himself having to take an early morning flight to visit his father and his new wife.

The Story: Spider and Rose meet and find themselves seated next to each other on an airplane. They are attracted to each other from the start. Spider thinks Rose is in college, but she is seventeen and a few weeks short of graduating from high school.

I loved Spider in Very Wicked Things. He was in Dovey’s best friend and he was awesome. He seemed the same in the prologue of this book when he is in high school and meets 11 year old Rose. She was hiding out from her mothers boyfriend when she sees him buying drugs and he is nice to her.

Fast forward 6 years and Rose meets Spider at an airport and he is exactly what you think a British bad boy, up and coming rock star would be. He is handsome and has an over-inflated ego due to the way women fall at his feet. Some of Spider’s first thoughts we see are his assuming he could “get to know” Rose better on the flight and his craving for white powder to get rid of his hangover and to cover up his feelings about having to go to his father for help.

Like in a lot of romance novels, the Hero turns from an arrogant jerk to a deep and likable human being in record time as the heroine gets to know him. I liked Spider as a person and he has a lot more going on than at first glance. His relationship with his father is strained, his band starts to do well and he does some things that make him very relatable.

The Narration was great. Savannah Peachwood is one of my favorites and was perfect for Rose. Rusty Coles did a great British accent for Spider. I couldn’t tell if he is actually British or just faking the accent but it was very believable for the character.

I haven't read a stepbrother book in a while, and I was never actually that into the trope, but this blurb grabbed my attention hard so I knew I had to read this one. Spider and Rose had rough time in their relationship and I ended up really liking that they fought for each other in the end.

Getting to the point where I liked them though, that took some time. I was annoyed at the drama popping up between Spider and Rose, and I really didn't like the whole Trenton thing bring thrown in there. It seemed unnecessary to me and made me like Rose less because of it.

There were aspects like that in the story that I didn't like, but in the end I enjoyed the reading experience. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone that likes an angsty read.

Rose goes to visit her (adoptive) mother, because her mother recently got married and it’s time for Rose to finally meet that husband. On the airplane, Rose meets Spider. Rose hates flying, but Spider can calm her and make her forget where she is. Rose and Spider have a nice conversation, have a laugh and share a passionate kiss. Both of them didn’t expect to ever see each other again, so they were shocked when they discover that they’re step siblings. Rose is now off limits to Spider, but Rose wants Spider too much. They have to spend some time together and the attraction between them only grows.

The author writes the best British, damaged bad boys. Spider owned my heart at the end. He has changed for the better and he did some sweet things for Rose. He wants her and only her. Rose is an incredible woman. She’s sweet and smart. Rose doesn’t care that Spider is her stepbrother nor what he does. She wants him desperately.

I adore Spider and Rose together. They are so good for each other and they belong together. Spider and Rose have more in common than they think. They both are passionate, determined, independent and a little damaged. Rose didn’t have the best childhood. Spider and his dad haven’t had the best relationship for years now.

I was hooked after just reading the prologue. It was perfect, just like that beautiful epilogue. I loved how Rose and Spider met (again) and how easily they connected. They have an amazing chemistry. I loved the first part of the book a little more than the second part.

For those who absolutely loathe any type of cheating, check the spoiler.

Title: Spider
Author: Ilsa Madden-Mills
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Publication Date: November 13, 2017

ARC

This book was everything!! I can't get over how much I loved this book! I knew it was going to be good..It's an Ilsa Madden-Mills book but Spider was unexpectedly epic!

I love the story of Rose and Spider, their journey of love is heartbreaking. Their situation needed an arduous restraint for their love for each other . But in the end, their love is never-ending and years apart won't lessen their love for each other. It's a story about destiny, Rose's destiny, and how it's intertwined with Spider's.

Spider was such an emotional, riveting story about fighting obstacles to achieve their dreams. I loved this book from the very first paragraph till the very last sentences.

This book was such a delight to read and I didn't realise how much I didn't want it to end until I was literally a page away from finishing it.

I want you, as readers to read it! I highly recommend this book! Spider will squeeze your heart with it's emotional torment, it's sweet unending love and an epilogue that will make your heart melt into a puddle of joy and giddiness!!

Well great, now I'm disappointed. That was no where near as epic as I expected it to be... what happened? Look back in Filthy English, Spider was great in that! But then this happened and womp womp womp.

So this book is divided into two parts, and within each part we have glimpses from the characters at different ages of their lives. Part one, loved it. It starts with Rose at 11 and Spider at 16, it was great. Then it moves on to Rose at 17, Spider at 22. It was also great. I liked the innocence but could feel the pull between the characters. May have been a bit too instalovey for my liking but oh well.

Then of course something happens (predictable), the characters react (predictable), and we fast forward a few years into part two. From here, things become even more predictable. And personally, I thought it felt very monotone. At this point when Spider came back and he and Rose began talking, I just wasn't feeling it. I didn't believe their relationship, I didn't understand the feelings that were supposably there. I thought it was forced and fake, if I'm being perfectly honest.

I've been looking forward to this book for a long time so it's safe to say I'm a little sad by this turn in events. I'm usually a huge angst lover but in this case, I found the scenes and dialogue to be too predictable and even cheesy at times to actually enjoy it. Benefit though, it's only about 260 and it reads rather quickly.

“Epic love...you and me.”

The prologue paints us a dismal picture into a young Rose's life and her one glimpse of kindness comes in the form of Spider...someone she will never forget.

Fast forward six years and they meet again at an airport although they don't make their connection to each other, they still have some amazing chemistry.

They continue getting to know each other on the flight and Rose finds out more than she wants to about Spider. And I felt Spider really regretted that...more than he was willing to admit.

And wouldn't you know it? Turns out he's her new stepbrother! Naturally, they get warned off each other and since Rose is not quite eighteen yet, she's really off limits.

description

They have a tough time staying away from each other and at an impromptu moment, things get blown out of the water and the consequences end up devastating Rose. It certainly doesn't help how horribly Spider treats her. It was sooo sad!

Luckily, we get a couple of two year time jumps and Rose has graduated college and dating someone from high school. Then, Spider shows up.

There are some situations that people don't care for and I totally understand but for me, I LOVED the angst. It really helped knowing what all Spider did and how he felt but...he really needed to grow up.

I think the time apart was good for Rose. She would have been too focused on Spider and not on herself if she hadn't have had time to grow and experience some life on her own.

I loved the art show but my favorite part was how the author flipped the epilogue like the prologue. That was soo great! And I loved the little additions!

I'm sorry, I'm just not a fan of reading stories where the main characters sleep with other people besides each other. It's hard to cheer for these characters to be together, especially when they cheat on their current significant others so they can be together.
I just couldn't get into this story.

Finally writing this review! Woohoo!

Spider was so freaking good! I just wish it was a series because I definitely wanted more! It is a dual POV from Spider and Rose. Now I never saw them as "step siblings" mostly because she was a foster kid and her foster mom/his step-mom was a bitch and I hated her. That probably seems weird to people that are reading this review but for some super odd reason my brain just wasn't computing them as a siblings. No matter how hard I tried it just didn't seem to fit for them.

Okay, now the family situation was weird for them and that's probably why I didn't see them as being a true family no matter what. Rose finally found her voice/back bone throughout the book which made me like her more. I also liked her fighting spirit but I disliked when she became a hot whiny mess when things didn't go her way with Spider. Also, she dated like the most emotionless guy on the planet. I hated him and his "friends" because they saw themselves as better than her. They just needed a swift kick to the ass and maybe a punch to the face.. then maybe I would dislike them a little bit less.

Besides that, there was a romance in this book. Of course I ended up shipping the heck out of Spider and Rose throughout the book. They were in some huge ass obstacle course for most of the book too. It's like Spider had to grow up and become a person that he deemed suitable for Rose. Then Rose had to finally claim Spider as her own. Also, to heal her heart since he basically broke it over and over again. The whole reunion of them at the art show was amazing in my eyes.

Overall, I loved this book even if it did frustrate me at times. I'm happy that they got their happy ending too! I didn't expect twins at all and it made me so freaking happy. I seriously wish I could get a book 2 and that this would magically turn into a series.. like what about her best friend and his fiance?!? I could totally get on board with that book. I would like more please!

“You’re scared of me Rose?”
Never.
“I’m scared you’ll rip my heart out.”
“I probably will.”

E vuole proprio Spider.

Persino l'epilogo l'ho trovato meraviglioso.

I was hooked from the right from Chapter 1 and I just could not put it down. There are so many things I want to share about this book but I will refrain because I want you to get lost in it like I did.

Rose and Spider are so different and yet so alike. They both have experienced loss, heartbreak but the difference between them is that Rose has a determination to succeed and find her happiness while Spider feels like there is no HEA in his future.

One thing is for sure is that Spider's story was so much more deeper than I thought it was going to be. To see the side of him that he always hid from the world had me tearing up. Despite having the "I don't give two sh*ts" about life the one person that brought the best of him out was Rose.

Please be prepared to have your emotions all over the place, one minute loving Spider and the next feeling disgusted and wanting to hunt him down!!

I honestly was getting nervous because I did not know how it was going to end with Rose & Spider yet I kept hoping that they would have their HEA. Their beautiful story was just breathtaking and just amazing!! 5 Breathtaking Stars

Necesito cualquier cosa.
Necesito a Rose.»

«—Nunca me escucharás decir esas palabras, Rose. Yo no amo a nadie.

I'm just not sure what to think here. The beginning was solid and I got ready to be thoroughly entertained, and then somewhere down the road it turned into such a mess. Honestly, Rose' behavior was so juvenile I couldn't even with her. Jeez, go ahead and fall in love with a guy you knew for couple hours, who also happened to have sex with another girl in that same stretch of time. Yeah, that's a nice way to start a relationship. If he also happens to be your stepbrother and a drug addict, well, that's just icing on a cake. You notice how I didn't mention the 5-year age difference? That's because: 1) it wasn't the biggest hurdle for these two, 2) this "hang up" was never on my radar like for some people.

Then again, the fate angle was really good and Spider was really funny.

So, yeah. It's a tossup.

Over and out

I have recently been introduced to this very talented author. After finishing Filthy English and realizing Spider was as getting his own book I may have screamed, just a little.

You meet Spider very briefly in Filthy English, you learn very early on he’s in a very successful band and has many, many, demons.

Spider gosh there are so many things to say about this intoxicating man.

Band.
Sexy.
Demons.
British.
Troubled.
Lost.
Tattoos.
Did I say sexy?!

Those are just a few things to think about when picking this book up. The writing as always, is instantly addicting. The way this author blends these two characters who have lived such different lives, but ultimately fate is what intwines them from the get go and she won’t let go.

This very forbidden love story goes back years.

Fate has these to by the neck and they don’t even know it.

ILSA is a one stop, cant do anything but gasp, and sigh, and hate the things she puts you through. But by the end, she creates meaningful love stories. I have fallen in love with all things ILSA Madden Mills and I don’t want to ever stop.

I loved every minute of Spider.

It was okay.
Meh.

description

I enjoyed parts of it.
Other parts were just... I don't know... off.
It was a quick read.
Steamy.
There is an underage aspect to a large chunk of this book.
Didn't bother me, but might bother some.
Overall, it was just so-so.

Looking back, this seems to be my common assessment after reading one of this author's books.
Perhaps I just don't mesh well with her writing.
Will I pick up another book from this author?

But, who knows. Never say never.

So I've read a lot of awesome reviews that made me put it on my tbr. But my opinion is so different. Don't get me wrong I kind of enjoyed it and I got fair warnings of certain things.

I just couldn't connect well with either of them, but that's probably just my fault. It could be so much more, or it's really just me. Because there are a lot of awesome and great reviews, so check out those instead of this one.
