Irvine Vics boss Stevie Wilson says it took seeing his players go through the pain barrier to put a smile back on his face after a weekend from hell.

Wilson admits he was a nightmare to live with after his side suffered a shock 4-1 league defeat at Ardrossan Winton Rovers on Saturday.

He branded the display sloppy and the Westenders’ worst in a long time.

But after a weekend stewing in silence, he finally cracked a smile on Monday night after his players were put through a gruelling training session.

He said: “I invited a friend of mine who is a top fitness instructor to come in and take the session.

“He does a 20-minute workout called Game Fit and it’s the real deal. It works every part of your body and is used by top sports scientists and elite athletes.

"The players were blowing out their backsides and that made me smile for the first time in days.

“We had a laugh about that but after Saturday’s game I didn’t want to talk to anyone. I think most people looking at the result would have got a shock, well I did too.

“It was a tough one to take, especially as we had prepared so well.

"We were our own worst enemy though and I know we are capable of much better.”

Vics have no fixture this Saturday but have arranged to play Dunipace in a friendly at Greenwood Academy with a 2.15pm kick-off.
