Danielle is avoiding her family. Her sister is getting married and she needs to make a decision weather to attend. She’s family but her husband isn’t a prize pony. Danielle comes from a rich family but what makes her happy isn’t the same thing as her family. She thinks he life is on hold but everything she wants is right in front of her.

Logan is a twin. He’s been in love with Danielle once she walked in the door. The problem is she said she wasn’t looking for love.

This is part of a series however can be read easily as a standalone.

I really like this author. Her stories suck you in and this was no different. The characters were loveable and the plot kept me interested. 4 stars out of 5.

I can't with Emily Goodwin.
I can't.
She sends me a book. I'm like, "Oh, I can just read a little and then go back to the twenty-one million things I have to do today." Riiiiiight. Guess how many things I scooted to the next page of my to-do list because of Cheap Trick? Yup. Twenty-one million. Ha!
I got nothing done from the moment I opened the ebook until I hit "The End". (They came way too early - I wanted more!)
Emily has a knack for bringing characters to life, characters that feel like your friends. Your neighbors. The guy you wished worked at your local bar. (But thank God he doesn't because I'd probably have a habit by now!)
Her writing is flawless. Her descriptions are beautiful. Cheap Trick is five steamy stars and quite possibly Emily's best work yet! (I feel bad saying that because I loved the other Dawson's and I don't want them to get their feelings hurt.) ;)

“But that’s life, isn’t it? It’s not about going through it and having everything fall perfectly into place. It’s about the people you have on the ride with you.
The ones who hold your hand.
Who help you up when you fall.
Who love you.

Cheap Trick is my first story by Emily Goodwin and I absolutely devoured it. I love nothing more than discovering a “new to me” author and absolutely being drawn into the world they create. Emily is an extremely talented writer who has crafted the perfect slow burn friends to lovers’ story. For me, they are the best kind of stories. Where has this author been all my life… now I’ll have to go and add all her back catalogue to my ever growing tbr list!!!

Danielle is an extremely relatable character who I was drawn to instantly and couldn’t wait to get to know. She’s always struggled to get her life in order and when things don’t go to plan, her first instinct is to run. Danielle, like a lot of us, is always on the search to find her place in this world. When Danielle arrives in the small town of Eastwood, she’s not planning on staying too long, but things change when she meets Logan and they soon become the best of friends and work colleagues at the local bar. When Danielle needs a date to her sister’s wedding, there is no better option that comes to mind than Logan. Faking a relationship with Logan should be easy, but what happens when fake feels turns into the real deal?

Danielle and Logan have an instant connection and attraction that is undeniable, even when they weren’t ready to admit to each other what those intense feeling really meant. I love relationships that start out as friends first; I love seeing the feelings develop from something innocent and platonic to something so much more.

I became fully immersed in Danielle and Logan’s story; what started out as a mutual like and respect for each other, developed into a powerful, love, want, need and desire. If you’re anything like me and love your slow burning friends to lovers’ story, then I cannot recommend Cheap Trick enough. I can’t wait to read more of what this profoundly talented author has to offer.

“How lucky you are that you get to fail. You can only fail if you’re living, and that’s not something you should ever take for granted.”

LOVED Logan and Danielle’s story. Definitely the sweetest and easiest Dawson Family read so far. Pretty low angst, but still tons of emotion. Loved the best friends to lovers combined with the fake relationship trope. Love this series so much and can’t wait for what’s next with Owen.

⭐️ 5 "Don't Be Afraid to Fail" Stars ⭐️
Cheap Trick was so sweet and beautiful! I love the Dawson Family Series and was so thrilled about Logan’s story. Emily Goodwin crafted an irresistible and perfectly matched couple in this slow burn friends to lovers romance! Danielle and Logan had me under their charm with all their flirty, amusing banter and their tangible sexual chemistry!

“How lucky you are that you get to fail. You can only fail if you’re living, and that’s not something you should ever take for granted.”

Danielle ends up living with her grandpa in small town Eastwood, after escaping her family’s last betrayal. She starts working at Logan’s bar and they develop a strong friendship with a simmering attraction! The young woman is also searching for her true identity. I felt the moments she’s the most genuine are all her times shared with Logan. She doesn’t think about the appearances and judgment and just be herself. When Logan poses as her fiancé for her family’s benefit, it’s the perfect opportunity for him to show Danielle they could be amazing together! This situation is the little push they both need to dive into love!

Logan! Aaaaw! That man is the best! His repressed feelings for Danielle are killing him and you clearly feel the struggle to not go for her. He respects her wishes to not enter a relationship and doesn’t want to break their amazing friendship. He’s so loyal, sweet and charming! I also cherished his conversations with his twin, Owen. Those two are polar opposites, but understand each other better than anyone.

“Hearts are wild things needed to be confined to cages. They can’t be trusted.”

Logan and Danielle are purely spellbinding! The electricity between them had me bursting with anticipation for them to finally take the plunge into a romantic relationship. They gave me chills over their effortless connection. They’re so intense and hot when they finally admit their feelings! I can easily say they’re my new favorite couple in this incredible series.

The Dawsons are without a doubt one of my absolute favorite fictional family. There’s just something about their dynamic that is so enjoyable to read about. The teasing, the support and the love between the siblings is so beautiful. With each book, I get to fall in love even more with these amazing characters!

“All my life, I’ve wanted someone to look at me the way Logan is looking at me right now. Like he can’t wait to strip me down and run his hands all over my body. Like he’s going to take all night pleasing me. Like I’m the only woman he ever wants to look at ever again. Looking at me like I matter.”

Cheap Trick is a swoon-worthy story with the most enchanting pair packed with feels, humour and passion! Now I just can’t wait to read Owen’s story!!!

NO SPOILERS!

Cheap Trick was a sweet, funny, sexy, and highly entertaining standalone friends-to-lovers romance, and it has been my favorite standalone in the Dawson Family series so far! The storyline and characters were incredible, and I loved Emily Goodwin’s writing style. Logan and Danielle were extremely lovable and relatable characters, and I connected with them so easily. I loved the friendship and insanely hot chemistry they shared together, and I loved every moment of their love story. Cheap Trick was a MUST READ contemporary romance, and I can’t wait to read the next standalone in the Dawson Family series, Fight Dirty!

Cheap Trick by Emily Goodwin is the fourth book in her Dawson Family series. A standalone contemporary romance set in the world of the Dawson's whom we did previously meet in Cheat Codes, End Game, and my favorite (still) Side Hustle. Danielle meets Logan Dawson in his bar and the stars collide and the sparks fly and (you get it, right?) instant attraction. But co-workers they must be and friends they become. But then who better to have as her fake date for her sisters wedding than someone hot and available like Logan? Iy won't mess with their friendship, she said. Things will work out fine, she said...

The emotion and tension between these two was sizzling off the pages (kindle screen) and it was a definite page-turner for me. Emily Goodwin is fast becoming a must-read author for me. Enjoy!

I didn't realised this book was a slow burn but I just got sucked into it. I kept on reading to know when they will finally get together.

Logan and Danielle are so easy to read about, their behaviors and feelings towards one another easily flowed and comfortable. But they kept their true feelings towards each other hidden. This is where I really got frustrated, not in a bad way. But I just want them to get together. Sadly, he would rather have Danielle as a friend than not at all!

Danielle, for me, is not an easy character, she didn't know where her life is going and she always thought she's not a strong woman and bound to fail. Logan saw her for more that what she saw in herself, he understands and accept her for what she is. I really admire the two of them together, even when they were just friends.

But when Danielle wanted them to pretend they're engaged while attending her sister's wedding in Hawaii, things were bound to changed! Both of them were motivated to act on their feelings and finally took a leap into it.

When they finally got together, that moment was just so satisfying to read.

It was good

*** There are spoilers throughout***

I liked this book. Not sure this will be a long review. But we'll see once I finish typing.

So anyways; I liked Logan and Danielle story, for one I was sad that her grandfather died I was excited that he was alive when she was in his room; but I assume 9/10 her father and I mean her mother and her grandfather maybe was arguing that lead to his heart to start and him dying but who knows. Only the author does. But I was glad Dani didn't listen to her parents about coming back and working for her uppity parents and working at his business and doing what they want her to do...... I think living in the country, and not the city is way better. That's where I live.... but her picking her own happiness is so much better... her sister I can tell doesn't want that life ... kind of jealous a tiny bit but not much... her parents are just horrible, but at least she has Logan parents and everyone who cares and don't think money is everything.

Btw I can't wait for Owen story that's coming on June 13th..... that's going to get me excited because I want him to be happy to and stop his whorish ways for GOOD.

P.S. But in the end, I am glad that Logan and Danielle got married for real this time; which I knew was going to happen anyways; plus with Dani ending up pregnant which I knew was going to happen also...I was just glad she picked staying over living this time...

I freaking loved this book so much. But I mean considering it's a friends to lovers romance, are you really surprised?! I am not. It's one of my favorite tropes!

God Owen and Danielle were perfect! Their story was fun, super cute, had the right amount of angst, heartache and steam. Honestly, the perfect combo to reel me in and never make me let go.

I love this series and I cannot wait to read the final book in 4 days.

I really enjoyed this book and the plot was better than some of the other ones in this series. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 was because they still couldn't express how they felt (didn't even have their first kiss) until we reached roughly a little over the 60% mark of the book. And then after that they showed small signs of love and affection because her Grandpa died and were going through those motions. After that was slowly leaving the conversation, they got together, said they love each other, and got engaged within a month. I know they were best friends first which is why they thought they couldn't risk it in the first place but still the extremely slow build up was frustrating (it was like having reader blue balls) and then the super fast love story within the last couple chapters was like if the author was just trying to give us what we craved super quickly.

Well well well, what do we have here? A 'Best Friends to Lovers' trope? How could I? Easy, it is Emily Goodwin. Emily absolutely slays me with her writing style and finally back in the world of Dawson's family tree, I loved every minute of it. I cannot and will not say it enough, Cheap Trick was the romance I needed this month in my life. Everything from the romance, to the drama, heck the characters - I loved it all.

That is right, I loved Danielle. I loved her personality, her presence, how she carried herself - just everything about her was both empowering and relatable. I enjoyed how she was with herself, she understood she had absolutely no clue how to be an adult, what she was doing or whenever or where she would go next, but she knew she was looking for something. I liked it about her. Yes, it might seem fickle, but she never once settled for anything less that happiness in herself.

And not only did I absolutely adore Danielle, I loved Logan. But does that surprise anyone? Nope. I tend to always love the male leads, I can't help it. Give me swoon worthy man meat any day of the week and I will melt from my seat in five minutes tops, Logan is definitely scrumptious. Logan was amazingly sweet. Between the teasing of Owen, telling him to make a move while Logan wanting to keep Danielle as a friend was just enduring. He didn't want to force her into a relationship knowing, and believing that is that she needed. I liked how he was a human. I felt he was never forceful, he was kind and sweet and really protective over Danielle.

But that chemistry? Please and thank you because Danielle and Logan had it all...I cannot say it enough as to how much I loved their dynamic. they flowed easily together as friends and when they finally pushed that limit, they realized how fierce their passion for one another really engulfed them. They simply had this this infectious, very flirty type tug of war with their emotions.

This is what I like to actually see in these types of tropes, because yeah 'Best Friends to Lovers' is definitely my least favorite because it always irks me how someone goes from saying oh him purdy, lemme break a piece of that now. But what did Goodwin do differently? She actually had two characters who were definitely attracted to one another from the start and it just beautifully cascaded. The circumstances of being friend-zoned was mostly due to Danielle's insecurities of settling down as well as Logan and this played on both their personalities. They had a great connection as friends, they joked in sexual subtleties that was lite and friendly while also having each others back.

I also really enjoyed the drama of Cheap Trick. It was believable at the very least. I liked how the family drama really held Danielle down, just her baggage of that situation really aided on the support and chemistry between her and Logan. I felt her sister was a horrid human being, how her family treated Danielle really disgusted me and yet was so believable because this is how some people are, the woman shaming was just powerfully written. I loved that angle a lot, it really highlighted that vapid, narcissistic woman growth we see in today's society that is just shake your head worthy.

Overall, what else can I say? I loved Cheap Trick, and honestly for anyone who knows me know that is saying something. I loath 'Best Friends to Lovers' tropes, I say it repeatedly so when I find a good one I will be known to scream it to the ends of the world. I cannot get over the dynamic between Logan and Danielle, the chemistry was there, heck it was always there and the build up was down right delicious. Drama spectacular, the feels - oh man I am still feeling the tugs on my heart for this one. Just phenomenal, but at this point should I be surprised that Emily Goodwin is amazing?

Now, I just need Owen. I just, ugh, I need him. And I need Dean. The more and more I see Kara, just the absolute more I loathe her. I need her gone and Dean to find someone knew, better. GONE I TELL YOU EMILY.

Cheap Trick deserves an infinite amount of stars, I loved it that much. If you’ve read the previous books in the Dawson Family series, you’ve met the twins, Logan and Owen. This is Logan’s story.

First off, I LOVE Emily’s writing. The way she describes a scene you feel like you are right there with the characters and I know I have said that in other reviews of her books that I’ve done, but it is still true and it is something that I love.

Secondly, Danielle. I have never loved a heroine more than I loved Danielle. She is EXTREMELY relatable, especially for me on a personal level. I instantly connected with her character and that is rare for me when it comes to heroines. She was lost, she didn’t know what she wanted in her life, she didn’t feel like her life was together. Who knew a trip to the local bar at 1 AM on a Thursday could forever change her life? Grandpa was my absolutely favorite, that man was full of wisdom. I highlighted EVERYTHING he said in the prologue because they are good reminders that we all need at times. The growth of Danielle from the start to the end was inspiring and just another thing I loved about her.

Now, Logan. The man is seriously swoon worthy. He was instantly attracted to Danielle. That very first moment he saw her, he was hooked. Of course, when she tells him she doesn’t have plans to stay, everything is temporary he doesn’t pursue anything. Instead they become best friends and coworkers. I loved Logan, he was sweet, supportive, caring, HOT…I could go on and on.

Danielle and Logan together are perfect. Their chemistry is off the charts! I loved their friendship; it was so natural and easy going. There wasn’t any sort of awkwardness between them as they navigated through their fake relationship.

There were also many great Dawson Family moments throughout the story. I was cracking up whenever Quinn and her love of cats was mentioned, because she is truly the crazy cat lady and it’s hard not to love her for it. Plus, more of Archer, Wes, Scarlet, Dean and unfortunately, Kara (I’m still not a fan of her). I’ve completely fallen in love with this family.

I was completely hooked on this book from the very first word and couldn’t put it down. It had me laughing, swooning, fanning myself, ugly crying and just smiling out of pure joy. Everything about it was perfect from the description of the scenes, the characters and just the flow of the story.

This can be read as a standalone, but I HIGHLY suggest to start from the very beginning so you can fall in love with the Dawson family from the very beginning.

Cheap Trick is a MUST READ and a HIGHLY RECOMENDED read from me!

Family drama is always so relatable. And there is plenty of that in this story. Along with the amazing Dawson crew we’ve all met before....

Danielle is at odds with her pretentious family, so when she needs to escape she beloved grandfather. Upon arrival she’s decided she’ll hang tight for a while, decide what she wants to do with her life then move on. That is, until she walks into Getaway and finds herself right at home.

Logan and his twin brother, Owen, own the bar & grill Danielle now works at. He finds himself instantly drawn to her and fights his feelings for his best friend all the while.

Dani finds herself in need of a fake fiancé for her a-hole sister’s wedding and who better to play the part than her bestie who already knows her so well...??

Logan & Danielle are so sweet together! The fact that they’re best friends makes it that much better because they still had that playful banter best friends have.

I loved it!

Cheap Trick is the fourth book in the Dawson family saga that tells the story about Logan who has made regular appearances in the other books in this series. This was a slow burn that really drew me into the story and had me hanging on every word written.

Danielle was a really fun character that i could definitely relate with. i really felt for her in regards to the way that her family treated her, who were the complete opposite to the Dawson family.

Logan I have been intrigued by from the first book in the series and i really enjoyed reading about him int he story. I loved the way he was willing to deny his feelings for Danielle in order to keep her in his life. It showed how much she meant to him.

Cheap Trick had appearances from the main characters from the previous books in the series and you are able to see what they up too now. This story had a few twists in the story that i was not expecting. This was a very enjoyable read.

Cheap Trick is the 4th book in the Dawson family series that tells the story about Logan who has made regular appearances in the other books in the family series.
I loved Logan and Danielle 's story because it's a slow burn, friends to lovers romance and its easy to read their demeanor towards one another. Logan did make some mistakes but let me say, Danielle disabused him of those notions shortly.
This friends to lovers romance is a beautiful read for its full of feels, drama, angst, twists, forbidden romance, 5 alarm heat, and romantic love that sizzles. A beautiful friends to lovers romance written in such a way that the reader will be swooning pretty much all the way thru right along with Danielle.

I totally fell on love with slow burn, beautiful romance. I fell totally head over heels with this really great story. I started this book not knowing what to expect. I just love a friends to lovers story and this had me gripped. I ain't very keen on a lot of slow burn romances but when they are written correctly like this they can blow your mind.

I totally loved Danielle and Logan, watching their relationship change was brilliant. Although they had an attraction to each other they fought their attraction for sometime. To say I enjoyed it is an understatement. A thoroughly enjoyable read. And a total recommend from me.

Another Dawson wins me over!

We got a tease of Danielle and Logan’s complicated relationship in Side Hustle where the boy was head over heals but too darn scared to pull the trigger to take their friendship to the next level lol. Cheap Trick picks up just as these two crazy lovebirds are ready to burst with need. While Danielle’s mind is getting her worked up about everything, Logan has finally decided to play all his cards. And he definitely steps up his game in showing his girl that he knows her better than she knows herself, which is cause for some swoon worthy moments! If you’re in the mood for these moments than look no further than this friendship to lovers romance.

There are so many things that I love about this book! I love that all of the Dawson siblings are in all of the books, including this one. I love the slow burn and war of emotions that Danielle and Logan both experience throughout the book. I love how Logan is there for everything and has her back. Ugh Logan is just perfect in this book. I related so well to Danielle, I have definitely experienced my fair share of expectations put upon me by my family. Overall I love the way Emily wrote their story and wrapped everything up. I'm dying to see what happens in Owen's book.

Such a sweet slow burn, friends-to-lovers/fake romance book! I love Logan and Danielle's friendship and how it turns into more. And Logan is totally swoon worthy and sweet. This is the fourth book in the Dawson Family Saga. I have not read the others in this series and didn't feel lost other than not having some of the siblings background story. This family cracked me up in this one so I am definitely I felt going to read the others.

Give me more Dawsons please!!

I loved Logan and Danielle so freaking much. I have a thing for friend to lovers and this is friends to lovers done so well. There’s just something about friends realizing they’re more than friends. Friends finally opening that door and letting in those feelings.

I loved Logan and Danielle’s chemistry. They were so freaking cute!! They made you wait but they made it worth it. I also love the fake relationship element that was thrown in. I loved seeing what was part of their story and what was their true feelings shining through.

As always, I’m in love with the Dawson’s and can’t believe this next book is the last. I’m going to be so sad once it’s over. They’re just an amazing family that’s always there to support each other. Which is such a contrast to Danielle’s family in this book.

Danielle is looking for her future and looking for her path and because of her family’s expectations she fails to see she might already be on the right path. I was not a fan of her family and why she was forced to move in the first place, but I’m definitely glad she did.

Can a fake engagement turn to true love?

Danielle does not want to follow the path her father set up for her, but she also does not know what path she wants to follow. From the first moment he saw Danielle, Logan fell in love. Yet for a year he did nothing but become best friends because she always said she didn't want to start a relationship when she would leave once she found out what she wanted. What Danielle never told Logan or would let herself feels is that she also wanted him.
When Danielle gets invited to her sister's wedding she lies and says she is engaged. Logan pretends to be her fiance. During their stay in Hawaii for the wedding will Logan and Danielle finally give into their feelings?

Magnificent

Emily is a master wordsmith and does not disappoint one bit with this masterpiece. Logan and Danielle are so beautifully written that you are sucked in from page 1 and putting the book down is not an option. Danielle is strong, smart, and damaged. She makes mistakes but tries her best to make it right. There are so bits of wisdom here that are thrown in by Danielle’s Grandpa that touched my heart as some of the best written words I’ve ever read. Reading Cheap Trick was nothing short of a privilege.

I loved how natural their story felt considering how much they each felt for one another from the start having had an instant love. It wasn’t over the top hard to believe and just steadily built until emotions and feelings finally all untangled into a perfect whirlwind romance.

Completely in love with all of Logan; he’s supportive, stable, intuitive, safe and overall a swoon-worthy character.

Danielle is so easy to relate to and I wish she could be my friend in real life. 😂

I honestly didn’t want their story to end because it’s just THAT good. 🖤

Absolutely love this family. Been waiting and dying for the twins Logan and Owens stories to be told.
The warmth and detail in the writing draws you right in. The emotions are palpable, the characters automatically draw you in. You feel everything.
My one eyed crying, so nobody could see was certainly in effect reading this book.
I love the dynamics in the Dawson family. One click this book, or Quinn and Archers or Wes and Scarlets and embroil yourself in a feel good book. You won’t regret it.

Friends to lovers

Loved Danielle and Logan. Logan is your typical guy who doesn't want to rock his friendship with his bestie but his madly in love with her. Danielle is a woman who has not yet decided her future but has done everything expected of her, until she moves with her grandfather and works in Logan's bar. This book made me swoon (over Logan), laugh, cry on and there moments so he prepared.

Loved it!!

Danielle and Logan have been friends for years. They felt attracted to each other but never acted upon that attraction until circumstances intervened and Danielle needed Logan's help with her family. This is a wonderful love story proving that best friends can become lovers and lifetime partners. This story was beautifully written and emotionally gripping. This is a wonderful series. I am patiently waiting for the next Dawson book!!
