Edinburgh to Glasgow ScotRail passengers’ fury over ‘utter chaos’ with crowded platforms and ‘cancelled’ trains

DOZENS of ScotRail passengers have taken to social media to complain of crammed conditions on trains and platforms.

Furious tweets claim cancelled services have left platforms incredibly crowded with not enough room for travellers.

It appears hundreds have lined platforms at Edinburgh Waverley and Haymarket this evening.

Events including the Fringe, Scotland's rugby match against France and the English Bank Holiday appears to have caused travel chaos.

And it looks like a train breaking down near Linlithgow has caused the disruption into this evening.

Kirsty Wark tweeted: "What is the problem @ScotRail? Shocking service problems between Edinburgh and Glasgow.

Lynda Sirel wrote: "@ScotRail what is going on in Waverley? No one seems to know, trains are cancelled left and right, with hundreds waiting to get to glasgow"

"They seem to be cancelling all the edinburgh to glasgow trains, but not telling anyone. They just disappear from the boards."

Vikki Wood said: "Haymarket station- Train to Fife right now. Bloody taxi it is. Disgrace & unsafe. People begging. People fighting to get on. @ScotRail animals in cargo treated better."

Lynne Porter wrote: "Is @ScotGovFM aware of tonight’s utter chaos? Time to get our country rid of Abellio once and for all. Utter disgrace, having to keep in contact all night with my nephew to ensure they reach home safely. Appalling services"

Lisa Black: "Seriously you need to get this sorted.Standing on a packed train at Edinburgh Waverley then told to get off and join a packed train that only has 3 carriages"

And an eyewitness said: "9.51pm tonight, last train to Perth from Edinburgh. Absolute pandemonium tonight people fighting, shoving and no police policing this at Waverley.

"Scotrail national joke. What’s worse is we say to the guard as we squeeze off that’s a health hazard and he replies I know. Surely it’s under his responsibility to prevent these things happening"

ScotRail have tweeted: "We are dealing with a train fault at Linlithgow which is causing disruption.

"Our staff are currently fault finding and we will update you once we get more information from the ground.

"CLEAR: Staff have rectified the fault and services on this line will not be affected by this issue. Apologies for your delay.

"NEW: Services from Edinburgh Waverley & Haymarket are extremely busy this evening and will remain so for the rest of tonight. We’ll continue to do all we can to keep customers moving and encourage those travelling between Glasgow and Edinburgh to use all routes available. 1/2

"CONTINUED: However, if you can, we’re asking customers to consider alternative transport arrangements for those travelling from Edinburgh city centre. 2/2"

A ScotRail spokesperson said: “We’re sorry to our customers who have experienced disruption and busy services today. We do all that we can to meet demand. Every available train we have is out on the network to get our customers where they need to be.

“Customers delayed by 30 minutes or more are encouraged to claim for money back via our Delay Repay Guarantee on our website or mobile app.”
