Amazon announces new French Amazon Original interactive dating series Love Island is coming exclusively to Prime Video in 2020

New French Amazon Original show, produced by ITV Studios France for Amazon Studios, brings one of world’s most successful, exciting and talked-about TV series formats in the world right now to TV viewers in France

Love Island will have daily episodes released to stream daily, launching in 2020 exclusively on Prime Video in France, available to stream at no additional cost to a Prime membership

London, 7 November 2019 – Amazon Prime Video today announced that one of the biggest, most exciting and most talked, written and tweeted about TV formats in the world right now is coming to France, exclusively for Prime members. Based on a format owned by ITV Studios and Motion Content Group Ltd, Love Island, a new and unique unscripted French Amazon Original series, is a dating show like no other. Full of romance, humour and of course love, Love Island is filmed and edited in real-time with daily episodes released every evening so the TV audience can play a key role in the story that plays out through voting in an interactive app. The French version of this global TV phenomenon will launch exclusively as an Amazon Original TV series on Prime Video in 2020, and will be available to view at no extra cost to a Prime membership.

This year, ITV2 aired its fifth series and announced that it will show two series in 2020, while Love Island also successfully launched in the US - where its will also return next year - as well as in Belgium, Netherlands, Poland and Hungary. It has run for three series in Germany, two in Australia and Finland and has also been commissioned in Sweden, Denmark, Norway and New Zealand. Love Island is also the number one entertainment app in eight territories; has had four billion social impressions and has 1.5 billion views on Love Island Global YouTube channels.

Love Island is a month-long dating show with a difference. The show will follow a group of single islanders who descend on a luxurious villa in South Africa before having the opportunity to couple-up with someone they are attracted to. Housemates will have to select their partners wisely and win over the viewers because Prime members will vote to choose who stays on the island and who leaves through a dedicated Love Island app. In a month full of challenges and dramatic twists, the Islanders will couple up, dump, re-couple and form alliances as relationships are made and broken in an effort to win a big cash prize by being the last couple standing. And the drama doesn’t end there; only one of the couple will be offered the cash prize, and have to decide whether they choose to share it with their new found partner. There is arguably no other show on the planet right now with as much daily drama, passion, excitement and swimwear, as Love Island.

“Love Island has been an incredible success around the world and since 2015 in the UK, so we’re incredibly excited to be able to bring the show exclusively to Prime members France on Prime Video next year,” said Georgia Brown, Director of European Amazon Original Series, Amazon Studios. “The show is incredibly ambitious with episodes filmed, edited and delivered to customers on a daily basis so that they can be part of influencing the drama in real time, by voting on who should stay and who should leave the villa through the Love Island app. Around the world this is the most talked-about show on TV right now, so we’re thrilled to be working with ITV Studios France to bring the highest quality version of this hit show to Prime members in France very soon.”

"Love Island is finally coming to France and it is great news! This hit format from the ITV Studios and Motion Content Group is a real social phenomenon in the UK, where it unleashes passions and sees its ratings beat record after record each season. From Australia to the United States and Germany, Love Island successfully travels the world and we are proud to produce the French version for Amazon Prime Video,” said Franck Firmin-Guion, ITV Studios France President. “This is our first collaboration with Amazon Prime Video this very innovative partner, who has great ambitions, particularly in France. We are delighted to support them in their development by launching Love Island on their innovative and ambitious platform, making this the first interactive dating show aired in real time.”

Love Island is an Amazon Studios and ITV Studios France production and will be available exclusively on Prime Video in France, in 2020. Love Island is distributed internationally by ITV Studios Global Entertainment.

Love Island will join the thousands of TV shows and movies in the Prime Video catalogue, such as award-winning and critically acclaimed global Amazon Original series including Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan, Good Omens, The Grand Tour, American Gods, The Boys, Homecoming and The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, all available on Prime Video at no extra cost for Amazon Prime members.

Prime members will be able to watch all episodes of Love Island anywhere and anytime on the Prime Video app for smart TVs, mobile devices, Fire TV, Fire TV stick, Fire tablets, Apple TV and stream online on primevideo.com and soon on select SFR set-top boxes. In the Prime Video app, Prime members can download episodes on their mobile devices and tablets and watch anywhere offline at no additional cost.
