RECYCLING staff told of their shock after finding boxes containing 60 explosive detonators at a dump.
George Burgess alerted his colleague Jim Durkin when he spotted two unusual metal containers in the small electricals zone.
Jim, 51, inspected the alarming stash including connecting cords and a hand plunger in Keith, Moray.
He said: “If these had been processed as usual the people further down the line could easily have set them off with devastating consequences.

“Even if they’d ended up in landfill, the machinery involved there would have easily triggered an explosion.”
Cops were called to the recycling centre, which was closed after Wednesday’s scare.

The devices were destroyed by bomb disposal teams in a controlled explosion off site.
Moray Council waste manager Mike Neary reckons the boxes were from nearby quarrying sites.
Hailing the pair, he said: “I’ve no doubt they averted a potential tragedy down the waste process.”
