Video Game Rankdown Pt. 2

Halo 3

IPB Image

Halo 3 was an easy decision for me to cut for a couple of reasons. Firstly, its a first person shooter and I am awful at them. When I tried to play this game at a buds place, my deaths were innumerable. Secondly, there was another Halo game still in, so I feel less about cutting this one. Thirdly its my choice. :haha: Anyway Halo 3 is a single player and multiplayer game that was released in 2007 on the XBox 360 initially (later rereleased on the XBox One). You can play through in campaign or story mode with one to four players. The story takes place after the events of Halo: Uprising. Halo 3 was the best selling video games in 2007 in North America, so thats pretty big. The game has come very far in the rankdown, but its time is over.

Mortal Kombat II

IPB Image

I love the mortal Kombat series, but much like Halo I cut Mortal Kombat II because there were still 2 other Mortal Kombats left. Turns out that was a fail because theres only 1 in the finals. Mortal Kombat 2 was the first Mortal Kombat game I got to play, and it was released in Arcade. It featured my favorite character in the series for the first time (Kitana). It also had several other new characters to the franchise. Those individuals are: Baraka, Jax, Mileena, and Kung Lao. All of the roster from the first game returned. Those were Raiden, Sub Zero, Reptile, Shang Tsung, Scorpion, Liu Kang and Johnny Cage. I will admit, I have fond memories of this game, and I was never great at it, but the series continued to get better in my opinion. By comparison this hasn't aged well and isn't nearly as fullfilling to play. I am not surprised this game made it this far in the slightest. I am happy one of the best versions of this franchise is represented in the finals!

Resident Evil

IPB Image

I'll be honest, this was the easiest game for me to cut this round, so the fact that it was still around when it was my turn was surprising. Resident evil is a survival Horror video game. This was the first game in the series, and it spurred not just sequels, a spin off,and three remakes, but also 6 live action films and 4 anime films. This was the start of a massive franchise. The player is given a choice between Jill Valentine and Chris Redfield, two main characters for the franchise. Each has abilities the othe doesn't. Jill is better with guns and has a lockpick, and Chris is the more durable of the two. The game takes place in Raccoon city in 1998, during the time of a string of murders. Chris and Hills team is assigned to the task and need to figure out whats going on. The game features 4 endings ranging from best to worst, assuming this is dictated by choices you make in the game. Good placement for the game I feel.

Tekken 2

IPB Image

Another game that I have fond memories of. However its not my favorite Tekken game. The ones I preferred were eliminated a long time ago, and this one is just so-so. There were two playable versions of this game, the arcade and console versions. I originally played it in the Arcade and later owned a copy on the Playstation 1. The arcade version only had 10 playable characters, and when it came to the console, they more then doubled the roster (to 24). Tekken 2 had returning favorites like King, Kazuya, Heihachi and Yoshimitsu return. It introduced us to some of my favorites in the series too in Jun, Roger and Alex. Tekken 2 had a number of play modes including: story, survival, and team battle modes. I used to be big on fighting games (pro button masher here), and a specific bud and I have many hours logged into this game.

Resident Evil, MKII, Halo 3, and Majora's Mask deserved a place in the finals. :/

Super Mario World deserved a place in the finals. :/

So every game I eliminated, thanks :/

They would have been eliminated anyway, as the only Tom would have possibly saved was Majora's mask. So its not like its my fault for 3 of them, thats a group effort. :haha:

I do agree about Super Mario World, It was between that and Earthbound for me. Megan was supportive to I put Earthbound through.

The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

IPB Image

The only strategic cut I made this round. We all know how popular the Zelda series has been over the course of the game and how fast people were to move them into the finals this round. Link as a character was prominent in several rounds.

This was the third Zelda game I had played, and the third I had beaten. They all offer a unique experience and this one came in the form the prominent uses of Masks, and the three day life cycle of the game. As most of you know Majora's mask the game is on a 72 hour cycle, equating to just under an hour of game time, before you have to turn back time on the ocarina. At which point the moon crashes into Termina and the game ends. So progression was hard when I was younger.

4 of the 24 masks in the game allowed Link to physically transform. He would become a Goron, a Zora and a Deku are the three prominent ones. There is a final mask in the game that lets him get massive and shoot beams from his sword. All of the masks have uses in the game, so finding the masks and using it appropriately was interesting.

Sorry for the cut, but there are just too many Zelda games in the finals, and you already have Ocarina of Time to represent the Nintendo 64 generation.

Yeah Sola is right I would have never moved Majora's Mask on or anything else popular as the Final Fantasies were targeted and cut without any regard for how people liked them.

Victoria agreed to do Halo 2, I will do Star Ocean and these four:

The Sims (PC; 2000)

Xenoblade Chronicles (multi-platform; 2010)

Soulcalibur (multi-platform; 1998)

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords (multi-platform; 2004)

The difference between "I wouldn't have saved Majora's Mask because there are games I liked more" and "I am cutting Majora's Mask because there are too many Zelda games" are worlds apart. If Sola hadn't put that incredibly stupid reason for cutting Majora's Mask nobody would have pointed out that it was an incredibly stupid reason to cut it.

Just say it was a threat and move on. :dead:

Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords

IPB Image

I am very surprised these Star Wars games managed to last as long as they did. I thought they were brought into the game by CGF or someone else that isn't in this rankdown anymore and they were just flying under the radar but it turns out a couple people like them. Well I've never been a fan of video games based on books and movies in the first place (even loosely, as these games are set far into the future from when the Star Wars movies are) and I've only played a little bit of the first one back in the day and it didn't really hold my interest. Apparently this one is better of the two in terms of story and characters but I've never played it and it's an easy one to do 100 words for now.
