Tishomingo won its first Class 3A state softball title Saturday, topping Washington 1-0.

Pitching was key in this game as both teams struggled to get base runners early on. Tishomingo pitcher Grace Anderson finished with 15 strikeouts in the win.

Tishomingo (37-2) was finally able to get a run across the plate on a sacrifice fly from Anderson in the fifth inning. Washington (31-1) got a runner to third in the bottom of the inning but was unable to bring her in.

“We got a few hits back to back, that made the difference right there,” Tishomingo coach Charles Hook said. “They never give up. They just never give up. (I’m) so proud of them.”

Washington was last year’s Class 3A runner up as well, losing to Sequoyah Tahlequah in the 2018 title game.

Class 2A: Silo 4, Dale 1

It was a familiar sight for Silo, competing for the Class 2A state title against Dale, but this time the outcome was different.

After two years of being runner-up to Dale, Silo won its first fastpitch title.

Both teams got a run across in the first inning, but after that neither team could get its offense going. In the bottom of the sixth Silo (37-3) loaded the bases and scored three runs to take the lead and eventually the win over Dale (33-5).

“We’ve just been trying to get better every year to be able to beat them,” Silo coach Mike Lawless said. “But they’re such a great program, so it’s indescribable to do this accomplishment.”

Class A: Morrison 12, Tushka 2

Morrison made its first trip to the Class A state softball tournament this year, and it left the champion.

Morrison’s bats were hot in the 12-2 run-rule victory over Tushka Saturday. The Wildcats got off to a fast start, scoring five runs in the first inning, including a three-run home run by senior Jasmine Warriner.

Tushka (31-8) tried to rally in the fifth inning. Senior Tenley Wainright brought in two runs with a single, but that would be all Tushka would get.

In the bottom of the sixth, Morrison (32-4) led 8-2, when Warriner hit another three-run blast. Paris Warriner drove in Morrison’s final run with a single later in the inning to end the game.

“Obviously a dream come true,” coach JT Freeman said. “All the work that we started in the summer and put in, you know you see it come together like that in the state tournament.”

Class B: Kiowa 6, Whitesboro 1

Kiowa (40-4) won its second consecutive Class B title, breaking the game open when Cloe Crawley hit a bases-loaded triple for a 3-0 lead.

Kiowa would add to its lead with a two-run home run from Sydney Linscott in the third inning.

Whitesboro (30-10) tried to rally in the sixth. The Bulldogs loaded the bases but could only get one runner home as Kiowa was able to make a double play and escape the inning.

“It’s special. I don’t know if it’s more special to me or our community,” Kiowa coach Keith Quaid said. “Small town like us, small town like ours, they don’t happen every day, and to win two now, it’s unbelievable how this town will always remember this group of girls.”
