Scottish Freemasons Grand Lodge ditches social media over ‘secrets leak fears’
SCOTLAND's Grand Lodge of Freemasons has axed its social media - over "fears secrets were being leaked online".
The organisation had hoped that Twitter and Facebook would help in a publicity drive launched five years ago.
Now it's understood that those accounts have been binned.
The Times reports that confidential internal information and spats between members appeared online.
Robert Cooper, the curator of the lodge’s library and museum, confirmed that the pages had been put on hold pending a review.
He said: “As with any organisation there are internal private discussions that shouldn’t be aired in public.
“Unfortunately, some of our members are doing that.

"Naively, they are putting up messages on Facebook saying, ‘What do you think about what the Grand Lodge are proposing?’
"Issues being discussed are not public but then, all of sudden, they are in the public domain.”
Mr Cooper said that there had been instances where members had been revealed without their consent.
We told you last year how a telly documentary was produced that uncovered the hidden secrets of the Freemasons in Scotland.
Cameras were allowed a glimpse behind the closed doors of the society’s lodges.
Dubbed “The Craft”, Freemasons have been the subject of thousands of conspiracy theories — but the organisation’s HQ actually operates in plain sight in the heart of Edinburgh’s city centre.
The organisation had been keen to dispel the myths.

And some members have called for the social media accounts to return.
One said: "Social media isn’t going to go away.
"To ignore it would be extremely introverted whereas we should be outward looking and communicating positively about the craft.”
