Alumnus Defies Labels at Morning Ex
Parker alumnus Regine Rousseau ’90, a businesswoman, entrepreneur, poet and author, spoke to the Parker community at Morning Ex on Monday. She owns her own event planning and wine company called “Shall We Wine.”
Rousseau focused her presentation on labels and their impactful influence on what we think we can achieve. She shared her own story of shedding labels to create her own unique business. Throughout the presentation, Rousseau gave students a quotation to use when they felt others were putting them down for their ideas for what they wanted to do with their lives. She told students to say, “Thank you for your opinion, but your fear is not my reality.” Rousseau also shared that it’s okay to reinvent yourself and try many different things throughout your career.
Her message of “there is no bad job if it connects with what brings you alive” was evident in how she lives her life!
“How did I get here? I wasn’t supposed to be here. I am black, I am a woman, I grew up lower middle class, I am Haitian American, I was labeled as learning disabled.”
