Signs of the End of the Age

³ As he sat on ^(A)the Mount of Olives, the disciples came to him ^(B)privately, saying, “Tell us, ^(C)when will these things be, and what will be the sign of your ^(D)coming and of ^(E)the end of the age?” ⁴ And Jesus answered them, ^(F)“See that no one leads you astray. ⁵ For ^(G)many will come in my name, saying, ‘I am ^(H)the Christ,’ and they will lead many astray. ⁶ And you will hear of wars and rumors of wars. See that you ^(I)are not alarmed, for this ^(J)must take place, but the end is not yet. ⁷ For ^(K)nation will rise against nation, and ^(L)kingdom against kingdom, and there will be ^(M)famines and earthquakes in various places. ⁸ All these are but the beginning of ^(N)the birth pains.

⁹ “Then ^(O)they will deliver you up ^(P)to tribulation and ^(Q)put you to death, and ^(R)you will be hated by all nations for my name's sake. ¹⁰ And then many will fall away^[a] and ^(S)betray one another and hate one another. ¹¹ And many ^(T)false prophets will arise ^(U)and lead many astray. ¹² And because lawlessness will be increased, ^(V)the love of many will grow cold. ^13 (W)But the one who endures to the end will be saved. ¹⁴ And this gospel of the kingdom ^(X)will be proclaimed throughout the whole world ^(Y)as a testimony ^(Z)to all nations, and ^(AA)then the end will come.

⁶ And I am sure of this, that he who began ^(A)a good work in you ^(B)will bring it to completion at ^(C)the day of Jesus Christ.

Prayer for Spiritual Strength

¹⁴ For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, ¹⁵ from whom ^(A)every family^[a] in heaven and on earth is named, ¹⁶ that according to ^(B)the riches of his glory ^(C)he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit ^(D)in your inner being, ^17 (E)so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being ^(F)rooted and ^(G)grounded in love, ¹⁸ may have strength to ^(H)comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and ^(I)height and depth, ¹⁹ and to know the love of Christ ^(J)that surpasses knowledge, that ^(K)you may be filled with all ^(L)the fullness of God.

^20 (M)Now to ^(N)him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, ^(O)according to the power at work within us, ^21 (P)to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

Unity in the Body of Christ

4 I therefore, ^(Q)a prisoner for the Lord, urge you to ^(R)walk in a manner worthy of ^(S)the calling to which you have been called, ² with all ^(T)humility and ^(U)gentleness, with ^(V)patience, ^(W)bearing with one another in love, ³ eager to maintain the unity of the Spirit in ^(X)the bond of peace.

³⁰ Then ^(A)will appear in heaven ^(B)the sign of the Son of Man, and then ^(C)all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and ^(D)they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven ^(E)with power and great glory. ³¹ And ^(F)he will send out his angels with a loud ^(G)trumpet call, and they will ^(H)gather ^(I)his elect from ^(J)the four winds, ^(K)from one end of heaven to the other.

The Lesson of the Fig Tree

³² “From the fig tree learn its lesson: as soon as its branch becomes tender and puts out its leaves, you know that summer is near. ³³ So also, when you see all these things, you know that he is near, ^(L)at the very gates. ^34 (M)Truly, I say to you, this generation will not pass away until all these things take place. ^35 (N)Heaven and earth will pass away, but ^(O)my words will not pass away.

No One Knows That Day and Hour

³⁶ “But concerning that day and hour ^(P)no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, ^(Q)nor the Son,^{[a] (R)}but the Father only. ^37 (S)For as were the days of Noah, ^(T)so will be the coming of the Son of Man. ^38 (U)For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, ^(V)marrying and giving in marriage, until ^(W)the day when Noah entered the ark, ³⁹ and they were unaware until the flood came and swept them all away, ^(X)so will be the coming of the Son of Man. ⁴⁰ Then two men will be in the field; one will be taken and one left. ^41 (Y)Two women will be grinding ^(Z)at the mill; one will be taken and one left. ⁴² Therefore, ^(AA)stay awake, for you do not know on what day ^(AB)your Lord is coming. ^43 (AC)But know this, that if the master of the house had known in what part of the night ^(AD)the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake and would not have let his house be broken into. ⁴⁴ Therefore you also must be ^(AE)ready, for ^(AF)the Son of Man is coming at an hour you do not expect.

The Day of the Lord

5 Now concerning ^(A)the times and the seasons, brothers,^{[a] (B)}you have no need to have anything written to you. ² For you yourselves are fully aware that ^(C)the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night. ³ While people are saying, “There is peace and security,” then ^(D)sudden destruction will come upon them ^(E)as labor pains come upon a pregnant woman, and they will not escape.

¹⁰ But ^(A)the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then ^(B)the heavens will pass away with a roar, and ^(C)the heavenly bodies^[a] will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.^[b]

^3 (A)Remember, then, what you received and heard. Keep it, and repent. If you will not wake up, ^(B)I will come ^(C)like a thief, and you will not know at what hour I will come against you.
