That man . . . grr. I wanted to strangle him and kiss him and kick him and lick him all in the same moment.

I simply adore this series. I cannot get enough of it. I was immediately hooked the second I read Runaway Road, and it seems to only get better with each book!

If you know me or follow my reviews, then you already know I'm a sucker for a second chance romance. So suffice it to say that I gobbled this story up with a spoon and licked my fingers after for good measure. It was delicious!

If you've read the first book, then you know the premise already. If you haven't, it's about a group of teenage runaways that chase their happy as adults in the fixed up cadillac that they slept in as kids. Now it's Gemma's turn and I couldn't wait to get beneath this woman's layers. Gemma is the uber successful one of the group. She's put everything into building her business and her empire. So much so, that she's left every other aspect of her life on hold. Nothing gives her meaning anymore. She got her success but she still feels numb. So she sells her business, gets the cadillac from her friend, and drives to the sleepy town that was once a stopover that left an imprint on her soul.

Easton and Gemma shared one night together before she left him and the town in her rearview. But it was so much more. So much, in fact, that neither forgot about the other. And one Gemma is unnerved to see the handsome man again, Easton appears flat out mad and eager to chase her out. A dare causes her to stay and soon the chemistry between them doesn't take long to rekindle.

I loved the push and pull between the two of them. Gemma has plenty of scars left on her soul from her past. And nothing was more satisfying then watching her let Easton in, little by little, until he fully gets through all her walls. Easton was as stubborn as they come and Gemma's leaving hurt him more than he wants to admit.

Everything about this story was fantastic. The small town feel and its inhabitants. Easton's family and the way they so easily bring Gemma back into their fold. Gemma's reunion with her best friend that she left behind and making things right. And the romance between her and Easton? Perfection.

I'm obsessed with this series and I'm already craving the next book. Unrequited love? SIGN. Me. UP.

I was excited to read the second book in Denver Perry’s ‘Runaway’ series. I thought Wild Highway would be more of a roadtrip book, but it turned into more of a second chance/small town ranch romance. I enjoyed Gemma and Easton’s story. I felt it was just a little too short, I wanted more. I do however want the Cash and Katherine book SO BAD!

Such a great series!Wild Highway had it all a heartwarming romance ,it was emotional and steamy!I loved this story, and the writing! This is about Gemma's journey to find herself.

description

"Gemma and I argued. We were at each other's throats, and it was because if we didn't fight this attraction, if we gave in... we'd be doomed."

I adored Easton, he is swoon worthy, sexy, and a broody cowboy! The chemistry between Easton and Gemma was off the charts!Wow they were addictive!

Give me a small town hate to love romance any day! I really loved this second book in this series. Gemma takes the car and drives back to the resort in Montana she had briefly worked at and left some important people behind. One of those people was Easton. After one night together, Gemma left for good and never looked back. Now, Easton hates her and wants her gone. But Gemma decides to stick around to show Easton she doesn't run away when she's scared and Easton is not happy. This is definitely hate to love and both Easton and Gemma know how to push each other's buttons. But I loved how Easton had a sweet side even though he really didn't want to care for Gemma. The setting was great and there were even some horses, which I always love. I wasn't the biggest fan of the other woman drama at the end and how clueless Easton was, but overall this was a quick and fun read!

“This journey was about searching for a real life. The life money couldn’t buy.
I wanted the things I’d never had.
Family. Love. Peace.”

Characters
Easton (33, manages the family ranch in Montana):
The following words/phrases were used to describe Easton: rugged, rough, sexy, authentic rancher, gorgeous, infuriating, overwhelming

Something to know about Easton:
- he is supposed to be in charge of the ranch, but his dad and his grandpa just can’t seem to let go and they constantly undermine his authority. This has created a great amount of friction between the men on the ranch.
- “I’d been put in charge of this ranch but Granddad hadn’t read the memo. He reminded me daily of how he’d done things in my day.”

Some quotes about Easton:
“There was something comforting about physical labor that soothed my soul. Something relaxing about being on a horse.
It was in my blood. Working here called to my soul.”

I was a Montana rancher who loved the land, my family and a marbled, medium-rare steak.”

Gemma (30 , recently sold her cosmetics company to Procter & Gamble for $12M):
The following words/phrases were used to describe Gemma: ambitious, has an air of sophistication, sad, lost, numb, empty, fearless, wild, scared, guarded, smart, driven, beautiful, loving, fierce, strong

Something to know about Gemma:
- "I used to be impulsive and adventurous. Money and success were to blame for the caution that had invaded my life. A month ago, I’d had hundreds of employees counting on me to make the right decisions. They’d needed me to take care with my actions to ensure they had jobs. In worrying about them—for hours, days, years—I’d lost myself.”
- Gemma also has real estate holdings, she owns interests in restaurants and a luxury auto dealership and is a partner in a fashion design company.

Some quotes about Gemma:
“I was on a new path now. Where it was going, I wasn’t sure. But the excitement, the freedom, was something I hadn’t felt in a long, long time.”

“Give me a dollar and I’d turn it into ten through sheer will and determination. I worked hard and fast, something I’d been doing since running away from home at sixteen.”

“I’d broken a promise to a close friend. I’d ditched her, choosing money over that promise and the decision had haunted me since.”

“my mother was certifiably insane. No one rescued me from her. So I rescued myself. And part of that meant shutting out the world.”

The Story:
“This car’s look was different but the inside would always feel like Londyn’s home. As an old, abandoned wreck destined for the scrap pile, Londyn had chosen this Cadillac as her shelter in a junkyard we’d called home. The junkyard in Temecula, California, where Londyn, four other kids and I had lived after running away from our respective homes.”

Six teenage kids run away from home and end up at a junkyard living in cars (a Cadillac) and tents. Bonds form, but ultimately they go different directions.
There will be six books in the series (at least I’m assuming so) where each kid will get their well deserved HEA. This is Gemma’s story and it starts out with her mission to return the fixed up Cadillac to Karson in CA. She takes a detour along the way and ends up at a ranch in Montana where she worked 11 years ago. She has lots of good memories of the ranch, including an incredible night she shared with Easton before she left without saying goodbye. Easton is still holding a grudge for being deserted.

My Thoughts:
The following are my thoughts about this book:
- Not sure I really bought into Easton’s 11 year grudge. It’s not like they had a long standing relationship and Gemma left him. They had a one night stand and the next day she was gone. Get over it dude.
- Good chemistry between Gemma and Easton. Doesn’t matter if they are arguing or getting busy between the sheets. They sizzle. "I’m going to take you into the bedroom and make sure you know that the reason I fucked you against that wall and in my garage was not because you don’t deserve the bedroom.” He bent and brushed his lips against mine. “But because when it comes to you, I have no control."
- Gemma...oh my. I wanted to hug her 💔❤️
- Easton comes from a very loving family, and I would have liked to see him sit down with his dad and grandpa and talk ranch management. I felt bad for him. They all deserved to be happy in their respective ranch duties and I didn’t like to see them fighting each other for control. 😕
- Small town story. Primarily takes place at the ranch in Montana.
- The supporting cast was Easton’s family and Kat who was one of the kids from the junkyard. I thought they all added layers that enhanced the story
- as much as I liked this book, I’m taking a point off for unoriginality. I’ve read the basic plot in countless romance books and nothing was a surprise or unexpected. What I did love was the runaway kids element and the bonds they have.
- It’s a pretty short book
- I definitely can't wait to read Cash and Kat's story in the next book. This book sets up nicely for the next one.

Overall:
- Do you need to read previous books in series?:No. I thought the author did a good job of recapping the important things from book 1.
- POV: dual POV
- Tropes: second chance
- H likable? Yes. But, he was a tiny bit of a jerk in the beginning. By the end I definitely loved him though.
- h likable? Yes
- h virgin? no
- First time they kiss: 54%
- First time they sleep together: 55%
- steamy? Yes
- OW/OM drama? not really anything significant
- H/h cheat? they had a one night stand 11 years ago, so they have definitely been with others during this separation. There was never any commitment to stay together after their one night. Once they are together again, no cheating.
- Did I skip pages? No
- Big secrets? Not really. Gemma’s past is hard for her to speak about, but it’s not a secret or a lie that impacts Easton
- Did I cry? Gemma has some heart tugging revelations about her past, but I didn’t cry.
- Did I laugh? Not really
- Cliffhanger? not for this couple.
- Epilogue? 6 months later
- HEA? Yes
- Recommend? yes

Quotes
“That woman had me twisted as tight as the braid on a bullwhip.”

“The black and soundless night only made it more obvious I was alone.
That there was only one heartbeat in the car. There were only one set of footsteps in the fresh snow outside the cabin. There was only one jacket to hang on the coat hook.”

“Once again, Mom was right.
When it came to women, I was thick as a brick wall. Someday, I’d remember that my mother was always right.”

“I’d been dealt a miserable set of cards for the first part of my life, but now I was getting straight aces.”

“Are you asking me to marry you?”
He arched an eyebrow. “Did I ask?”
I laughed and stood on my toes to brush a kiss to his lips. “Let’s pretend you did and that I said yes.”

4.5 'Where do you fit, Gemma?' Stars!

I do believe I have a new favorite runaway! Though I’ve loved the stories of both runaways I’ve already read. Devney Perry is killing it with her new series about this group of broken people who shared a junkyard home when they were young. We started with Londyn and now it was time for Gemma to get into the Cadillac and get her own adventure to happiness. Of course, Devney did a wonderful job with this emotional second chance romance!

Wild Highway is the second installment in the Runaway series and I believe it is best enjoyed after reading Runaway Road. Gemma Lane left a difficult life behind when she was just a young girl. She build a home in a junkyard with five other kids and now, years later, she is a very successful businesswoman. There is one thing though: she feels empty and does not know where she belongs. That is what makes her take Londyn’s car on a road trip and she ends up in Montana, where she reunites with the two people she left behind there years ago: one of her junkyard friends and the man who apparently hates her after how they left things back then.

I was still just a runaway kid, numb to the world, searching for anything to make her feel.

Oh, did I love Gemma and Easton! I love me a good small town, second chance romance and Devney is an expert on both of those troupes. That back and forth between this couple was captivating. The pull was so strong and what seems to start again as hate is not. Not at all. This love story, besides being entertaining and addicting, was full of emotions. This is the second chance Gemma and Easton deserved. I loved how their relationship developed, their interactions with all the Greer family and their slow burn chemistry.

“Be real with me.” I inched closer, bringing my hands to her shoulders. “If no one else, be real with me.”

I do have to say I especially enjoyed the second half of the book, which happens to be romantic, burning hot and emotionally intense. Learning the whole story of Gemma’s past broke my heart and seeing how Easton becomes protective and tender melted my heart. I loved this couple together and it so clear they belong with one another. I mean, THAT SCENE in the last chapter? MOVIE MOMENT! I cried. I freaking looooooved it. It brought everything together and it made my poor soul so happy.

I was his. I belonged with him.
The chaos I’d felt for, well... forever, seemed to simply uncoil.

Therefore, I am rating Wild Highway with 4.5 STARS, same rating as the first book in the series but for different reasons. This time Devney gave us a touching second chance romance and trust me, you don’t want to miss it. You’ll fall in love with Gemma and Easton, their beautiful connection and the rest of the characters too. I am loving the theme of this series and its characters and I literally cannot wait for the next book. Those teasers about Katherine and Cash got me so excited! Highly recommend this one!

Wild Highway is going to give you the small town romance feel, indulging in a unexpected road trip, and wanting to heal old wounds. This was the kind of read that will hit when you’re least expecting it and even though you will breeze the story in no time, these characters will have a lasting effect on you.

Gemma didn’t have the perfect childhood like some kids did. Looking back on it, some moments were filled with fear and having a sense of loss but through it all, she tried her best to get through it. Being on her own from the age of sixteen and not being sure what her future would look like, Emma made it her mission along with her three other friends to survive in what is sure to be a crazy world.

giphy-67.gif

With luck on her side and a drive like no other, Emma became a very successful business woman and is now at the top of her game. But you know what they say about being at the top: it gets lonely. When she’s asked to do a favor by taking a road trip, Emma decides to use that time and not only self reflect on her life, but to make amends for what happened in the past with some friendships. But self discovery and rekindled friendships aren’t the only thing that’s going to happen when she lands on the family farm that meant so much to her in the past.

I will admit that I did not read the first book in this series and I feel like I didn’t even miss a step because it was a complete standalone. I really liked the flow of the story, the setting was perfect, and I couldn’t get enough of these characters despite me wanting to shake them a few times.

If you’re looking for a sexy heartfelt small town romance, then you definitely need to try this one.

2 books in and having such a good time with this series!

Devney Perry can write! She has me in my feelings and I get so engrossed in her stories. I picked this book up this morning and read it all the way through within the same day. Each time I would take a break from it, it would occupy my mind.

I’m loving that this series seems to be following a group of people, misfits, who’ve had it rough in life. Gemma (and Londyn who we’ve met in the previous book) are runaways. They’ve escaped a terrible home life and gathered together in this one particular place, with others, to survive a messy childhood.

Now that they are older, they have made a life for themselves, but their past still seems to haunt them and it affects different areas of their lives, especially their romantic relationships.

Gemma threw herself into work and made money, became successful but for the life of her, can’t seem to find a place to call home. The lack thereof and her loneliness was so palpable in this story and my heart broke for her. She’s always been someone that was able to escape her emotions.

There’s more to this story, of course. The beginning was a bit slow, but I loved every moment of it.

I really want to like Wild Highway more than 3 stars. I really do. I have high expectation from Miss Perry. Again, I feel disappointed. Runaway series has different tone from Miss Perry compares to her other books. The story is short and not much drama.

Wild Highway is a second chance romance. Between Easton and Gemma, I can relate to Gemma. Despute her success, she is lonely. She is also hide a scars of her family drama. POV is from both Easton and Gemma but mostly from Gemma. So I can not connect well with Easton. I feel Easton is just a silence brooding hero in the corner.

Overall, OK read. But wishing for so much more.

It's_not_hoarding_if_it's_books Ig page

I was very intrigued by Gemma's character in the first book so I got very excited to get to know her story. Devney's Perry words are always enticing and I adore her writing style that gets better and better with every new book.

"I used to be impulsive and adventurous. Money and success were to blame for the caution that had invaded my life. A month ago, I’d had hundreds of employees counting on me to make the right decisions. They’d needed me to take care with my actions to ensure they had jobs. In worrying about them—for hours, days, years—I’d lost myself.

She takes the cadillac from Londyn to take it herself to California after she sold her company in Boston. But before California she takes a detour to find some closure in a place she where a long time ago she left behind people she loved.

"I was setting out to right a wrong. To find myself again.
On the wild highway."
.
.
.
"But even with all the power, the prestige, the fortune, that hole was still there. The numbness remained.I was still just a runaway kid, numb to the world, searching for anything to make her feel."

This place is the ranch/resort the Greer family owns, and where she, Lonny and Kathrine worked after they left the car-park. Kat was left behind when she followed her path and became successful in Boston and now she returned to apologize , not only to her, but to a men she left after a passionate night together.
Easton is bitter and resentful towards Gemma , but soon they both discover the flame that burned between them when they were young is still very much alive.

"That man . . . grr. I wanted to strangle him and kiss him and kick him and lick him all in the same moment."

Their banter and interactions are funny and charged with tension, and soon both give in into this thing neither can stop, but at the same time remain cautious with their hearts. East, because he knows Gemma will leave again, and her, because she is terrified of feeling anything.

"There were so many incredible things about this woman. She was smart and driven. She was
beautiful and loving. But damn if she wasn’t blind.
Would she ever see what was in front of her?
Everything she wanted, everything she needed, was right
here. A home. A family.
Me."

I love this Cadillac, that seems to be a symbol of some sorts. The knot that keeps together the 6 runaway kids, like a good luck charm,a lifeline, that saved and will continue to save the rest of the runaways.

Oh my word.

I'm all in my feelings over this story. I don't know what I was expecting, but it wasn't the emotional punch packed into this short, sweet, sexy book. I loved Runaway Road, but Wild Highway took it to the next level to me. I felt Gemma and Easton's connection to my core. My heart wrapped itself around them and felt every ache and bruise as these two sorted through their issues and fumbled their way into a hard-won love story.

It was so good. Gemma's story broke my heart. I felt for her. I ached and hurt and occasionally wanted to give Easton a good smack across the back of the head on her behalf. I loved how she sorted through her own baggage while still allowing Easton to be her hero. I loved how Ms. Perry managed to make her this complex character - wounded, but strong. A warrior princess with a glass heart. She was so easy to love.

And Easton? Pure cowboy perfection. Strong, silent. I loved watching him process his feelings and try to do right by Gemma - even as he sort of biffed it at every turn. I loved his steadfast heart. I felt like I didn't get as deep of a dive into Easton as I did into Gemma, but I loved him all the same.

The chemistry between the two was palpable, and the tenderness between them completely swept me off my feet. It was emotional, but it was also feel good and I want to read a million more of these stories.

I also loved the family dynamics in this one. I loved how it wasn't just Easton winning Gemma's heart, but really his whole family. I loved the rekindling friendship, and the hints that there is more to come. It was just so completely satisfying. I feel like this series is just getting warmed up, and my heart is already all-in on it. I love everything about it - from concept to execution - and I absolutely can't wait to see where it goes from here! ~ Shelly, 5 Stars

***

Oh man, y’all know I’m a huge fan of second-chance romance! I love seeing true love win when given a second chance. That sometimes time and distance and a few life lessons are just what’s needed for two people to realize what’s missing—what they’ve lost. And that’s just what happened with Gemma Lane.

Gemma’s been running away from her childhood for years. And by running away, I mean building her brand, making her fortune. Securing her future. But in doing so, she’s not happy with her life. And she doesn’t quite understand her melancholy until she arrives in Montana to try to right a wrong.

But that proves to be easier said than done—oh not with fixing her friendship. Nope, it’s trying to prove to Easton Greer that there’s more to her than just her money. And that she’s done running away. That this time, she’s running toward something that looks an awful lot like love.

And in love is what I am with Wild Highway. I loved Gemma’s vulnerability. Her openness, her insecurity. Her ridiculous ability to love wholeheartedly. And to forgive past injustice. And I loved her together with Easton.

Gemma is just what Easton needs to balance him. Balance out his fiery temper, yet unending patience in dealing with his father and grandfather and their meddling. Easton, once his feathers settle, has been in love with Gemma since she was nineteen, though it took him a while to realize it. But once he did, whoa, do the sparks fly between them—in and out of the bedroom.

This Runaway series is just hitting it’s stride, and I can’t wait to see where the road takes Kat and Cash in Quarter Miles. ~ Missy, 5 stars

Wild Highway by Devney Perry is the second book in the Runaway series and it can be read as a stand-alone. I went into this book with high expectations and Perry did not disappoint. She took me on a wild yet captivating journey, one which I have yet to recover.

This installment brings us Gemma’s story. From the moment of her introduction in book one, she piqued my interest, and I was curious about her story. Let me tell you it wasn’t pretty. However, she proved to be one tough cookie. She pulled herself from a life on the streets to becoming a self-made millionaire. Despite this, she feels her life is missing something. She sold her cosmetics company and embarked on a road trip to California where she would deliver a Cadillac to the guy who looked out for while she used to live on the streets. However, before she delivered the Cadillac, she needed to make a detour so she could right a wrong and so her journey took her to Montana.

It displeased Easton Greer, manager and part owner of Greer ranch and resort in Montana to see Gemma on the property. It appeared she broke his heart eleven years ago. Afraid she would hurt him again, he it made his duty to make her life miserable, so she would leave. However, he did not count on  old feelings to reignite and for Gemma, who gave as good as she got.

Easton had a stubborn streak a mile long, and he proved to be clueless sometimes. I was not a fan at first, but by the end I was team Easton. I loved his work ethics, his strength, his gentleness and his capacity for understanding.

Easton and Gemma’s chemistry turned out to be a scorcher. Despite having achieved so much Gemma struggles with self-doubt and feelings of not belonging.  Ii was a pleasured watching her coming to the realization that s she was loved and she had a place to call home.

I enjoyed how Gemma and Easton’s relationship developed and I was happy to see how it turned out. Their journey to happiness was not easy, but it was worth it in the end.

The story, despite the heavy topic, was peppered with humour and passion. I enjoyed the family setting, and I loved how the Greer family embraced Gemma.

Conclusion/Recommendation
Do you enjoy second chance romances set in a small town and one which gives you all the feels? Then purchase a copy of Wild Highway and while you are at it get a copy of Runaway Road as well. You will not regret it.This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

Second chance romance.
Love hate relationship.
No intimate scenes other than the Hero and heroine.
Both with others during time apart though no details.
Small other woman drama.
Heroine feels he flirts but he is clueless to other woman feelings.
Breadcrumbs dropped for future books in series.
HEA.
Epilogue.

One thing I did feel at the start, the heroine sells her company for millions and she and her PA are worried what she will do with her life..... Who cares, she has so much money she can do anything..... Poor soul.

Another 5 star read from Devney Perry, the second journey in the Runaway series.

This time Gemma drives the Cadillac to Montana to see Katherine and to apologise for abandoning her there eleven years ago.

Gemma left the morning after spending the night with Easton so he is not impressed that she is back at the ranch.

Gemma and Easton have a slow burn relationship, enemies to lover.

I lost myself in this story that I was at the end before I even realised it. I loved every second of this book.

I am looking forward to Quarter Miles, Katherine and Cash journey this will be very interesting and I only have to wait a few weeks YAY to Devney.

This was a sweet second chance at love read.
Gemma and Easton had one perfect moment, but the outcome wasn't the same for each of them.
One runs away to make a better life, but fate had another plan.

Gemma had a terrible childhood and was never enough for anyone to stick around for, to stay through the good and bad or put her first above all. Despite all that she has made a name for herself and become what she had hoped to be.
Easton has essentially the perfect family. Loving and stable. Has never yearned for affection or to find his worth. He just belonged, always.

Together, these two found the love to beat all loves. It wasn't easy, but Easton allowed himself to be a safe place for Gem.

Devney Perry has knocked it out of the park with Wild Highway. When I think of second chance romances, I think of romance, angst and heartache. Wild Highway hit all those marks and took me on a journey I never saw coming…

Wild Highway is the second book in the Runaway Series and it follows the story of Gemma and Easton. From the moment you meet these two characters, you will be utterly consumed by them. I mean, you might as well cancel all of your plans for the day, because you’re going to want to just devour their story.

Gemma’s life has never been easy. Her home life was toxic and it forced her to leave home at a young age. Ever since she left home, she’s fought and worked hard for everything in her life. She’s tried to make something of herself and tried to find her place in the world. But, no matter what Gemma does, she always feels like she’s spinning her wheels. She’s never truly found her place, so when the opportunity to take a road trip to California presents itself, Gemma can’t turn it down. What started off as a road trip to clear her mind, ends up with a detour that turns her life completely upside down……

Wild Highway is literally everything that I could want and need in a second chance romance. The characters are real, flawed and filled to the brim with emotion. They are easy to relate to and the more you spend time with them, the more you want to see their story come together. Gemma & Easton had me hooked from the very first page. The chemistry between them was scorching and impossible to miss. They had the enemies to lovers vibe going and when you add their past to it, it only made things more intense. Gemma was strong and fierce. She had been through so much and just wanted to find her place in the world. And while Easton appears to be this gruff, broody man, there is more to him than meets the eyes. He’s got the weight of the world on his shoulders. He’s got major feelings for Gemma, but is afraid of letting her get close again. I loved watching these two try to figure things out and see if they could find their way back to one another again.

Wild Highway consumed me. It filled me with so many emotions and I couldn’t help but devour this book. Gemma and Easton were a force to be reckoned with. Their story proved to be everything that I wanted and wished for. It’s the kind of story that knocks you off of your feet and will keep you begging for more. It’s a story filled with love, angst and heartache. It’s a story of forgiveness and hope. It’s a story that will leave you with so many feels and the biggest smile on your face.

Wild Highway was a fantastic read from beginning to end and I just loved every single second of it. I am completely in love with the Runaway Series and can not wait to see what journey this author will take my heart on next!

4.5 stars!

There is something about a Devney Perry book. You know you’re going to get a beautifully written story that will capture your heart and make you fall in mad love, and that’s exactly what I experienced with this one. The second book in the Runaway series is a gorgeous story of a lost woman finding her place in the world, and an amazing second chance romance that had me feeling all the feels.

Gemma was one of six runaways who found a home together in a Californian junk yard. She has come a long way since then, creating an empire and making her fortune. But she’s just sold it all and taken off for a solo roadtrip across the country in an attempt to wind down and find out where she truly belongs. She’s picking up the travels of her best friend, Londyn, with plans to drive her Cadillac back to California, but she detours to a ranch in Montana where she worked for a short time 11 years previously, with plans to catch up with another of her fellow runaways who still works there. And it puts her right into the path of somebody else from her past, Easton Greer.

These spontaneous decisions of the past few weeks suddenly made sense. They had purpose. They had meaning. They were to get me here, in this moment.
I was setting out to right a wrong. To find myself again.

Easton’s family owns the Greer Ranch, and he’s now the man in charge. He and Gemma have a history, and their time together ended badly. He is not happy to have her back, but she is welcomed with open arms by the rest of the family, he is not happy when she decides to stay for a while.

It's such a great setup, with broody Easton doing his best to avoid Gemma, but teasing and baiting her whenever they are forced together. He doesn’t believe that she’s prepared to give up her wealthy, pampered lifestyle, and she’s determined to prove him wrong. And underneath it all, their wild attraction to each other simmers.

“What do you want from me, Easton?”
For you to get the hell out of my head.

Easton and Gemma have sizzling chemistry. Their attraction is undeniable, and all of that bickering soon unleashes their passion for each other. But they are determined to protect their hearts this time around, and they try to keep their feelings out of it. But that proves harder than they thought.

He made me feel small—safe and protected. He made me feel free to be myself.
Easton made me feel. Period.
I wasn’t ready for him to go and take the feeling with him. Not yet. Not when I’d been numb for so long and with him here, I was alive.

I loved these two together. It’s not a conventional romance, by any means, but the fact that they can’t keep away from each other says so much about the depth of their attraction and how much they still feel for each other. They slowly rediscover their friendship, and you can see how deeply they care, but Gemma is searching for something, and Easton refuses to stand in the way of her dreams.

Would she ever see what was in front of her?
Everything she wanted, everything she needed, was right here. A home. A family.

Me.

It’s beautiful watching it all unfold and I was sucked right into Gemma and Easton’s story. There were moments that broke my heart, that had me holding my breath in anticipation, or cheering in sheer joy and excitement as they eventually figured it all out.

I loved this story and I struggled to put it down, desperate to see how it was all going to turn out. There’s a nice set up there for Katherine’s book up next, and I can’t wait to continue on with this series.

4.5 stars.

My heart was all tingly after reading this feel good, second chance love story by Devney.
As good as the first book Runaway Road was, this book is Even Better!!!
Londyn’s cherry-red, 1964 Cadillac DeVille convertible

description

it seems like the fabled pumpkin carriage given by fairy godmother of fate itself, taking the girls to their HEA. I mean if Prince Charming can't come to the princess, they get into their car and Runaway on the Wild Highway!!
It's a relay trip turned life changing journey for at least two of the Junkyard Gang of Temecula.
"These spontaneous decisions of the past few weeks suddenly made sense. They had purpose. They had meaning. They were to get me here, in this moment. I was setting out to right a wrong. To find myself again. On the wild highway."

description

There's something to be said about hot & sexy Cowboys in hat, boots and chaps that makes a girl go ga-ga. Easton Greer is just that, plus he has a tight Ass in those fitted jeans. Gemma Lane never stood a chance, 11 years ago and now in the present. But walking away has been easier for her, to protect her heart.
"Easton had perfected sexy, mysterious cowboy. The man belonged on the cover of a romance novel—shirtless, of course."

description

When the Twain meet and revisit some of the unfulfilled desires, the heart jumps in to create havoc with the senses and it becomes a messy situation where one of them is bound to get hurt real bad!!
The book is alive with all the emotions. Set in a small town in Montana, it has earthy and rich sentiments, crispy weather and warm cozy cabins. There's midwestern hospitality and open armed policy for the lost ones returning home

description

Only Gemma has no idea where her journey ends.
"I just wanted to go home. But where was home? Boston? California? The cabin? None of those places were home. I was filthy rich and utterly homeless. The closest thing I had was that Cadillac outside."
It's a "wandering soul looking for nirvana" kind of a story, almost like an epiphany before the fork in the road, in the middle of nowhere!!
5 stars for stallions and studs who ride them

Oh my! What an absolutely beautiful, moving story of finding where you belong and second chance romance!

Image may contain: sky, plant, outdoor, nature and water

My heart ached for Gemma. She has had one tough life but she has not only persevered, she has excelled. I’m all about family and watching Gemma struggle with the lack of family cut me to the quick. I wanted to grab her into my arms and make all the pain go away. She was wounded, knew it, but unable to find the answer of how to heal herself.

”What do you want, Gem?”

A place

A safe place. A forever place.

Maybe that place didn’t exist for women like me, so I stood on my toes, threw my free arm around his shoulders and brushed my lips against his before I gave him my second choice. “You.”

California Cowboy Engagement Photography, Ranch, Western, Rustic, Horse - Lyndsey Garber Photography

I had a few reservations about Easton in the beginning. He had some issues to deal with and I realized pretty quickly that they were justified. It also didn’t take me long to fall in love with him. Once he opened himself up, he was all in and that included being sure that Gemma had what she needed to find happiness. I love a protective, unselfish hero. Especially one that responded in the way Easton did. And fyi: he’s a “darlin’” lovin’ cowboy! Swoon!

Nice

This is a fast read but it is packed with so much emotion that I found myself sobbing at a couple of points, and cursing this author for her ability to make me do so. The chemistry between Easton and Gemma absolutely sizzles, especially once they get past the enemies stage. Of course, there is no denying the attraction while they’re still engaged in their arguments and stand-off.

This is a complete stand alone with no cliffhanger, but it does set us up for the next book in the series and I’m chomping at the bit to get my hands on it!

5 Gemma and Easton Stars

I appear to be reading this series completely out of order but this book holds up as a standalone very well.

And I am LOVING it.

I may be a tiny bit addicted to Ms Perry's style of story telling. From The Coppersmith Farmhouse to Letters to Molly I am hooked.

Wild Highway is the second in the Runaway Series and it is Gemma and Easton's story. When Gemma was eighteen she spent some time working on the Greer Family resort in the depths of Montana and from the very start she was attracted to the eldest son , Easton, who was home from College. Gemma thought the attraction was one sided until her last night there when Easton and her shared a night together. Gemma left unexpectedly the next day and unwittingly left Easton reeling. And angry at the way she went. He wasn't as unaffected by her as she had thought.

Fast forward eleven years and Gemma is a successful business woman who has found that business and wealth still hasn't filled the emptiness in her heart. Her traumatic childhood has left deep, open wounds that no amount of therapy or money will ever fully heal. She sells her business and takes up the idea of her friend Londyn to drive a restored vintage Cadillac (with huge sentimental importance) across the country to California . On the way she detours to apologise to her friend Kathryn who she also left behind when she fled Montana...but seeing Kathryn means seeing Easton.

Gemma is a strong heroine and I got why she behaved the way she did. When key people in her life have let her down, it's hard for her to believe anyone could care enough to want her. Easton was so broody and poker faced but still waters run deep and our hero was a raging torrent of passion and want underneath the cool exterior. He was also a little clueless when it came to women .

I got completely wrapped up in this book. I was fully invested in the main and secondary characters. I loved the pace of the story, the romance, the heat, the pulling of the heartstrings moments - all of it.

Near the end there is a part where Easton chases after Gemma and I have to say it is a scene that will stay in my heart and mind forever. Oh my goodness - this romance junkie was in seventh heaven reading the way he goes after her. I was beaming, swooning and sighing. THIS. This is why I read romance.

Read Kindle Edition & Listened to Audio. Narrated by Jason Clarke and Lucy Rivers. Jason was awesome . Lucy has a lovely voice but she spoke a little quickly at times.

HEA? Yes and it leads into the next book about Katharine.
Cheating? No. Just a tiny bit of OW drama but Easton is solid and very loyal. The drama added just enough angst and was really well done. I enjoyed it.

Another sweet story in this series, super quick and easy to read! This was more of a second chance romance so I liked that there was a back story and a little history with Gemma & Easton. That scene at the end where he chases after her riding jigsaw along the side of the highway, how freaking swoon worthy!! Loved it

At this point, this Cadillac is never going to make it to California! It's definitely a good luck charm tho, it's 2 for 2 at finding soulmates!

I devoured this book! Once I started I couldn’t stop, I was consumed. So far, Wild Highway is my favorite book in the Runaway series! This book brought so many emotions—it had me feeling everything. I cried both sad and happy tears and was overcome with so much happiness. Gemma and Easton captured my heart—I loved them so much.

Gemma has not had it easy. From a young age her childhood was anything but perfect. Gemma became a runaway and found safety at a junkyard with 5 other runaways who she formed a friendship with and who became her family. At the age of 18 she leaves California with Londyn and Katherine and they make their way to Montana. Once there she starts working at the Greer Ranch and finds some peace. Wanting better for her life, Gemma jumps at an opportunity that’ll change her life. She ends up leaving Montana, but not without regret.

Now, eleven years later, Gemma has sold her cosmetics company and in need of figuring out what’s next for her and what she wants out of life. She embarks on a road trip, one in which leads her back to Montana and to finally apologize to Katherine. It also turns out that Gemma left someone else behind and he’s not happy to see her back.

Easton Greer never thought that he’d ever see Gemma again. He thought what they both shared that night all those years ago was not just one-sided. Though he was wrong since the next day she left without saying goodbye. Now she’s back and Easton pleased to see her he also isn’t kind to her, but deep down those same feelings he had for her are resurfacing and at the forefront. And in order to protect himself from more heartache he won’t admit what he feels to Gemma and save himself from yet more pain when she ultimately leaves again.

Gemma and Easton consumed me. There’s no doubt that these two are perfect for each other. Seeing Easton care so much and showing Gemma that she belongs and that the ranch and being by his side is the place for her to call home was so heartwarming. And watching Gemma finally realize that she belongs and feels wanted and loved had me shedding tears. Gemma and Easton were exactly what the other needed and watching them become friends and eventually become something more left my heart at full capacity. I loved their journey and loved their love so much more.

Wild Highway is a second chance, enemies to lovers romance jam packed with feels. I fell so hard for this story and these characters. With each book in this series that Devney writes it just gets better. She has you immensely invested in each new character that you can’t help but need their story and go along on their journey. The Runaway series is easily becoming one of my favorites and I can’t wait for what’s next.

Broody, unforgivingly gorgeous cowboy reunites with the one who got away?? A recipe for disaster & fiery chemistry. I loved how headstrong Gemma was and the growth she discovered within herself. After rising from the ashes of her adolescence and creating a name for herself, she still felt empty and suffocated. What she thought she needed was a vacation with her best friend’s vintage car and the open road. What she got was the passion and freedom she deserved. The epilogue was my favorite!

tropes: second chances, small town romance, and, frenemies to lovers

A Roadtrip That Ends With Forever Love!

I was Totally Smitten with this story! LOVED IT!

Gemma had a rough start at life. She went from a runaway living in a junkyard to millionaire. She just sold her company and she's taking a road trip. Her first stop takes her to a best friend which leads her to her next journey. She's ready to make amends and reunite with her junkyard family.

There's no better way to figure life out then to hop in a convertible and hit the road. Gemma's back to the place where she had her first real job. Greer Ranch and Mountain Resort holds fond memories and a long lost friend or two. She's not sure of the reception she'll receive because she was their working and then one day she just left eleven years ago. No goodbyes. And she left behind a good friend and the man she spent one night after crushing on him.

Now she's a strong, independent, successful woman and she's ready to make things right. The ranch is just what she needed. Now she has wide open space, friends that treat you like family and an angry cowboy that is going to make you work for his attention.

It wasn't hard to gain forgiveness from her old friend, but Easton is not going to make her life easy. The second she showed up, he was ready for her to go. The one night they spent together has been a fond memory for years, but he doesn't trust her to stick around. He knows her stay is only temporary because the one thing that Gemma always does is run away.

Sparks fly between these two. As much as Easton wants to hate her, she slowly wins him over. They bring the HEAT! There can never be a relationship because she is searching for a place to call home, but hiding their fling is becoming more difficult. Gemma struggles with what her heart wants and being too afraid to take it. One of them will have to take a risk if they want forever.

This second chance, enemies to lovers romance was a heart stealer. I fell hard for these characters. The author's writing style is a favorite for me to read. She delivers beautiful characters with layers that you will look forward to peeling back. This series is a journey and each new character leads us somewhere new to fall in love all over again. I have really enjoyed the two books in this series and I cannot wait for the next.

GIRLS!! And men if you are here and reading this. I FREAKING LOVE THIS BOOK. Let me go as far as saying I LOVE THIS FREAKING SERIES. Devney Perry has become an absolute AUTO read author for me, having penned one of my very favorite reads EVER (Molly) and every single story I have read just takes a little more of my heart. Let's be honest here...I have been STRUGGLING to read and keep my attention on the book at hand but once I started this one, I was TOO quickly reading the end. UNPUTDOWNABLE. These characters owned me. Whether it was because I wanted to throat punch them or hug the living breath out of them with comfort, seriously. I loved them. Devney Perry has a ways of painting not only the scene in front of you with such brilliance you feel there, but the emotions attach themselves to you and you seriously become a part of the tale. It was such an engaging, emotional, love affirming, finding your home story that I seriously could not tear myself away from. READ THIS SERIES. READ THIS BOOK. xo

Thank you for the early read, Ms. Perry. It was more appreciated than I can say. xo

description

‘She’d been a force of her own, so tied up in her own life that others were forgotten. I just had to bide my time. Then Gemma Lane would disappear. And I’d go back to forgetting the breathtaking woman with the sparkling hazel eyes who turns out, I hadn’t forgotten at all.’

Wild Highway by Devney Perry is another small-town romance in the Runaway series, a series we’ve fallen utterly in love with. We say it time and time again, Devney Perry writes the sweetest emotional romance. This series is every hopeless romantic’s dream. Low on angst and high on character chemistry, having that addictive second chance romance aspect we love so much. Whilst each book can be read as a standalone we’d highly recommend reading in order as the thread of the storyline continues in every instalment.

‘I’d shown the world I was more than where I came from. I’d made my mark, my fortune and fame. And I’d learned the hard way it was just as hollow as the home where I’d been born.’

Gemma has had a tough start in life, but she is one determined and strong lady, refusing to repeat the mistakes of her mother, and never wanting to feel hungry or go without again. Spending years of her teenage years sleeping rough in a junkyard with fellow runaways she struck a close bond with Londyn in particular, who slept in a convertible Cadillac. When Londyn decided to drive the Cadillac back to California to the boy she got close to, she met her soulmate along the way, halting her journey. Londyn’s story was Runaway Road which we loved too. When Gemma decides to sell her company to find herself and fill the aching loneliness in her heart, she takes the baton to continue Londyn’s mission. But first she has some apologies to make on the way, which is how she finds herself in the one place in Montana that she ran from eleven years ago, the first place which resembled a home. This is despite knowing she will see the one man she has never forgotten, Easton Greer. However, she is intent to see and apologise to one of the fellow teenage runaways, Katherine.

“What do you want from me, Easton?”
“For you to get the hell out of my head.”

Easton was a lush, a rugged ‘hands-on’ cowboy with a chip on his shoulder. He’s not the most welcoming of Gemma, but then who can blame him after her leaving without warning the morning after a night of intense connection. Sceptical and cautious he’s extremely vocal on how unwanted Gemma is. The pair skirt around each other, hiding what lies within their hearts. Both seeking something the other can fulfil.

“Be real with me. If no one else, be real with me.”

Reading Wild Highway had us feeling like we were reading with a permanent smile on our face. Yes, it was emotional too, however, the sweet romance was the most prevalent and what a gorgeous and swoon worthy romance it was. An easy and fairly quick light-hearted read, Wild Highway is a wonderful addition to the Runaway series.

‘Easton covered my hand with one of his, trapping me to him. “What do you want Gem?”
A place.
A safe place. A forever place.

“With. Me.” He dropped his forehead to mine. “You fit right here with me.”

OOOHHH HELL YEAHHHH thank you Devney Perry for pulling me out of the slump 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

GEMMA AND EASTON!! oooof, the tension??? the ANGST?? exactly what I needed. this was the short and sweet read I needed. oh, and the spice!! ooof. I mean, not something out of this world but perfect for this story.

“Gem.” I cupped the back of her head. “Fuck.”

Second chance romance is always a hit or miss for me. Usually the time apart would make me nervous but there was no funny business in this, so huge win!! The whole series is about a bunch of runaway kids who used to live in a junkyard together. Each book is about different characters, and this one is about Gemma. After leaving the junkyard, Gemma worked in this resort/ranch owned by the mmc, Easton's family. They had a thing, but then Gemma left without saying goodbye. Eleven years later, after selling her very successful business, she came back. Despite being successful and, you know, rich, Gemma was lost, unhappy, and she felt very, very empty.

“I’m not going to beg you to stay, Gemma.”
Right before she slammed the door in my face, I heard her whisper, “No one ever does.”

Easton didn't take her coming back very kindly in the beginning. He was still kinda holding a grudge. And listen. Was it ridiculous because it happened like a decade ago and they're in their early 30s now and should just get over it? Yeah, but I don't care. It was GLORIOUS 🤭 Despite how short the book was, Easton stayed mad for a good chunk of time which I preferred, because it made them finally letting each other in a very special moment.

This book basically checked off all of my romance boxes. Enemies to lovers vibe, pining, tension, ANGST!!!, witnessing a breakdown moment, and the jealousyyyyy 🤭 ooou I ate it up. There was a lil found family vibe too!! And I loved how Gemma was kinda the outsider for a bit there and she felt like she didn't belong and AHHHHH it was so angsty lol.

This was a fantastic read!! I did wish it was a bit longer but the book still rounded up pretty nicely anyway so it didn't bother me. And I loved the epilogue!!

“Then come home. Please.”
“I thought you weren’t going to beg me to stay.”
“Let me rephrase. Come. Home. That’s not me begging. That’s me giving orders.”
