The waking of Ghosts is the first instalment of a new academy series. It’s told from multiple point of views, but our main character is Zarya. She’s an outcast from her coven and a ghost hunter. She didn’t finish her training as a witch but knows how to survive on the streets. She’s the person you call when Ghosts are your problems.

The lost souls Academy is made up of paranormal misfits. It’s founder Avery Blackwood discovered the lost library in Seattle. She a witch with a different. She wants to save lost souls. Zarya is their newest invited member. Unfortunately, the academy isn’t the only ones watching her.

This is the start of a story. It’s available on kindle unlimited. The waking of ghosts as the title suggests is the beginning and this book sets-up our characters giving us a glimpse of what’s to come. The story does leave you wanting more.

I read this via KU however I’ve joined the blog tour. My review is honest and my own.

This is a fun, sassy read that I devoured in a day!

I love the concept of the lost souls banding together and the characters are fantastic!

If I had a criticism, it would be that the writing style is very staccato in places.

Not a lot occurs ‘plot-wise’ in this book, and it does end on an abrupt cliffhanger. But I imagine this is because it’s the first book of a series and is world building.

I will definitely be continuing the series!

Fun,clever, fast paced read. This paranormal book is alot of fun to read. If u like fairies, werewolves, ghost hunters and more, then this is a story you will love.
Zarya is an outcast, having been abolished from not only her family but her which coven and school as well, shes left on her own to fend for herself.
Things change dramatically for her when she meets her nemesis' in a park.
This story has a cliffy ending, which doesnt bother me much but may cause other readers to want to wait to read until the next installment is out.
4/5

To be completely honest, I didn’t like the book. Basically, the idea and the setting were interesting, but I just didn’t feel any tension. I think that was mainly because of the three main characters, I only really liked Zarya. I was happy to follow her story, but the interruptions by the other characters’ point of view and the way the plot was structured made it feel like the book was just a prologue to the series and not a story of its own. Many aspects were interesting, but in the end it did not motivate me to start the next book in the series. It’s a shame, because from the individual points, the world seemed quite interesting to me.

The storyline is great. I found it too slow and repetitive with individual character thoughts. I wish it dove more into character interactions than individual thoughts on who they themselves are and of others. Usually, I like unique names, however, there are too many and it's offputting to the point it distracted me from the story. The last twenty percent of the novel is where it gets interesting and picks up. It's worth reading. Just prepare for slow going. The Waking of Ghosts is a story about a teenage girl trying to find her place between several magical worlds when she doesn’t feel like a part of any one of them. The introduction to Zarya was fresh and inviting. She doesn’t beat around the bush, and she doesn’t try to explain herself. She doesn’t even try to make out like she’s a terribly great person, since the opening scene involves her “banishing” a ghost that isn’t really there for payment. All she’s really doing is trying to get by. As the story continues, getting by becomes harder and harder with a potentially murderous ghost stalking her. The prologue presents an equally intriguing introduction to the character of Avery, who is trying to set up her own magic school, though we don’t get many details about it until later on in the story.

Although Zarya is the main character, the story is told from a few different viewpoints, and it balances them all fairly well. We understand what each character’s goal is and their outlook on life, and the scenes from their perspectives serve the story well, filling in gaps that other characters would not have been able to.

It’s important to note that this book is the first of a duology, and it’s not a Harry-Potter-style book where the initial installment is designed as a standalone. It’s more like the Uglies series in that the first book sets up the next, and there’s clearly more to follow. Both approaches have their own faults and merits, but with only two books in the series, it’s certainly a manageable read. I’d say if the plot interests you and/or a sample pulls you in, just get the two books together and read them as one longer piece. They almost could be if the first book was trimmer. That would be its one major drawback, in my mind. There’s a decent amount of filtering, repeating information, and characters reiterating their goals to themselves when the POV switches back to them. But I also read the book fairly quickly, and if you’re the type to take long breaks in between reading sessions, you might find those reminders more helpful.

Overall, this is a solid book with an interesting cast of characters.

The Waking Of ghosts (The Lost Souls Academy Book 1) by Liliana Rose is a paranormal fantasy novel.

The series starts with Avery looking for an abandoned library to start an Academy for the abandoned kids with different abilities who don't fit in their clans and are outcasted.
Avery is also familiar with a ghost.

Then we meet, Zarya who is a witch kicked out of her coven because she was a partial ghost hunter. She works as a ghost hunter by fooling the clients for money so she can pay her everyday expenses. She starts being haunted by a ghost.

Then there is, Panguar. He is a wolf shifter.

Daire is a vampire and Karya is the newest member of the academy.

All these kids join the Lost Souls Academy to learn and to fit in, to learn their capabilities and to harness them and practice.

Zarya tries to learn more about the ghost by whom she is being haunted.

This is one of the amazing series I have read.

It has supernatural beings like werewolves, vampires, witches, ghost hunters, etc.

This is a good book.

A perfect fantasy book with a mix of horror and paranormal romance.

Though the story is said from a different point of views, it is quite well written and easy to understand.

The character of Avery is quite strong as she is trying to open an academy with her motives which are not known until later. This makes the story instantly intriguing in the first chapter.

What is the motive of Avery to open an Academy?

Why is a murderous ghost haunting Zarya?
Who is the murderous ghost?

Who is the ghost that Avery has befriended?
What is its motive?

What is the Lost Souls Academy?

This is a very interesting novel. I was very much intrigued by the opening story.

I would recommend this for every person who loves the supernatural and paranormal creatures. It is a romance in a fantasy world novel.

I loved this novel very much.

I rate this book 5 out of 5.

The Waking of Ghosts

The Waking of Ghosts (Lost Souls book 1_
Lilliana Rose

The Waking of Ghosts is another great book by Lilliana Rose. This one focuses on the Lost Souls or the mifits of the paranormal world. There are vampires, shifters, witches, fae, ghost hunters. The book starts out talking about Amy, who is the founder of the Lost Souls Academy. She stumbles upon a library that is full of books so those that enroll in the Academy have plenty to read. Zarya is a witch and a ghost hunter and she has been shunned be her coven and family. She has been on her own for over a year, and would like to increase her skill at ghost hunting. When she is invited to the Academy she is unsure of whether she wants to join or not, and burns the invitation. She finds it and is drawn to it immediately. It's a good thing because she has a ghost that seems attached to her, and she is going to have to be extra careful and very strong to defeat it. This book kept my attention from page 1 until the end. I have become quite a big fan of Ms. Rose's books over the years, and this one did not disappoint me. I very much look forward to the 2nd book and continuing to read this newest saga.
If you like paranormal books then this is one for you.

The Story…

The Waking of Ghosts is the first in a series by Lilliana Rose. Zarya, Pan, and Daire have been rejected from their coven, pack, and clan. There’s something wrong with them in their society’s eyes. They all feel the need to belong, even more so since everyone they’ve known has turned their backs on them.

Avery Blackwood has found the lost library she has been searching for.

She is starting an academy for lost souls like herself. Avery wants to be headmistress in this library where supernatural beings with no home can come and learn what they need to in order to live better lives, help each other and humans.

Zarya is a witch who is also a ghost hunter. When a menacing spirit finds her and says it has been watching her, she has reason to be afraid. When she receives an invitation to join the academy, she scoffs at first. As she’s wandering the streets after a client cancels on her, she chances upon the door to the academy. Will she find a place to belong? Will she learn more about her abilities and how to defeat the ghost that is threatening her? Or does Avery have an ulterior motive in gathering all the lost souls?

My thoughts…

The Waking of Ghosts is well-paced, but the first few chapters spend too much time reiterating the need the characters have to belong. This is a base feeling and I connected to it right away. Other than that, the characters are multi-dimensional. I enjoy the multiple supernatural characters and their differences that separate them from the norm. The main themes are belonging and working together. The book has mystery, possible romance, and a good threat of revenge.

This is the first book in a series and I’m looking forward to seeing what Zarya learns in the next book.

If I could give this book 3.5 stars that is what I would give it.

I really enjoyed the blurb for this book, and I thought it would be a very interesting read. What happened next was a story with so many grammar mistakes that it made my head spin. Fragmented sentences, words duplicated, and many other errors.

I found it very slow and repetitive with individual character thoughts. And there are few character interactions. It was like being stuck in someone's mind and hearing their inner thoughts about themselves, and others but not getting that actual interaction between them and others.

Another issue is that there is a lot of repeating information, and characters reiterating their goals to themselves when the POV switches back to them. I found this unnecessary since I read the book in just a couple of hours. I guess if you are one of those who put down a book and read multiple books at a time this may be helpful to you, but for me, it was redundant and bordered on boring.

It does have promise and isn't a horrible book. I would probably recommend it if someone was looking for something along the lines of the story, but I would tell them it is a very slow starting book. I will say the last few chapters really made the story for me, so that shows some promise I suppose.

I received a copy of this book from the author.

The Waking of Ghosts is the first book in Lilliana Rose’s new Lost Souls Academy series. The Lost Souls Academy is not your regular academy of students. The students are the cast offs, the unwanted, the misfits. They aren’t the worst thing about the academy, however. There seems to be an evil entity haunting the halls of Lost Souls Academy.

Zarya was banished from her coven and now does what she must to survive. She’s part witch and part ghosthunter, making a living by hunting entities who haunt others. She’s a teenager looking to find her way in the world and her place in the many worlds filled with magic. She finds sanctuary at the school when she starts being harassed by a ghost.

The Academy is a school where the misfits are accepted and begin to learn about themselves, each other, magical capabilities, and how to harness magic. The story is told from multiple points-of-view even though Zarya is the main character. The story is unique and filled with twists, turns, and a plethora of supernatural creatures and events. The world created by the author is interesting and the story is engaging.

Once upon a time, I used to read quite a bit of paranormal and supernatural stories until I got bored with the genre. I'm not exactly sure what made me want to read The Walking of Ghosts — the title or the stunning the cover art.

The book centers around the Lost Souls Academy, which is a school for rejects ― witches, werewolves, ghosts, and vampires who don't fit in with other supernaturals. The main character is Zarya, who happens to be a witch and a ghost hunter.

Overall, I enjoyed reading The Waking of Ghosts. I never know what to expect with a new author so my expectations were an open book, and I was pleasantly surprised with the story. Supernatural and paranormal school plots have been done to death over the years but author Lilliana Rose cleverly found new ways to make the genre fun again. The characters are well-written and the dialogue is lively. It ends in a cliffhanger so I'm wondering what happens next.

An opportunity to attend the academy might be the chance our heroine has been looking for to finally find a home. Or it might be the worst decision she ever makes. Only one way to find out.

This is book one of the series, so no issues there.

This is an urban fantasy story featuring witches, shifters and vampires. The story is well written and easy to read with a nicely detailed setting that I really enjoyed getting to know. I always enjoy mixing the mundane and the magical, so this was very fun. The characters are also well done and I enjoyed getting to know them. The plot moved at a good pace and included a nice bit of action, mystery and humor. Overall, this was a fun introduction to the world and characters and I definitely look forward to getting to know more about both in future books.

Highly recommended.

A fun addition to the paranormal boarding school genre. Didn’t really know what to expect because this is my first Lilliana Rose book, but it won’t be my last. It was fun with some great characters that I can’t wait to be filled out more with the later books.

Enter Lost Souls Academy, a school for outcasts hidden in plain site host to vampires, werewolves, fae, and witches. And don’t forget the amazing library! Zarya is trying to make her way in the world since being banished by her coven. She is making ends meet through ghost hunting - sometimes real and sometimes not. She is now the latest recruit for Lost Souls. But, she must deal with an apparition first.

I liked the book, but it does need a little more editing. It was a noticeable distraction.

This is a brilliant paranormal read , featuring the main character of Zarya , we follow her in the hunt for the ghost terrorising the academy. Will she manage to become the ghost Hunter she was destined to be?

The characters featured in this book are very well described by the author , it adds great depth to the story, making the characters believable and makes them come alive while you are reading it. It is one of them books then once you start reading it , you can't story and you end up devouring it in one sitting!

A brilliant story that flows through the story line carrying the reader along with it. Bring on book 2 in the series!!

This is a shorter read that introduces us to the members of the Lost Souls Academy. This is a school that has students that have been discarded from their people, because they are different. Zarya is a witch, but also a ghost hunter and fighter, so she was shunned by the Coven. She’s barely making it in the world until Avery, a powerful witch invites her to the academy that she started in a magical library. Here she will meet the other students, but also attracts the attention of a powerful ghosts that wants her dead. This didn’t really leave off on a bad cliffhanger at all, but the overall arc of the story does continue on.

I like Zarya and the other students, and will more than likely continue on with the series to see how it all develops. Nice read.

A good start to a new paranormal series...

We meet Avery first in the book, and she's looking to open a place of sanctuary to abandoned and alone paranormals. After this we learn Avery’s familiar is a ghost, which has yet to be explained. The we meet Panguar, who's a wolf shifter, Daire who's a vamp, and Karya, who's the newest member of the academy.

This is a really great start to this series, and I am instantly intrigued as to each of the individual characters, and where this story could possibly lead.... The reason for the four stars is the length of the book... I'd love a longer story ;)

If you are a fan of paranormal books, this new series from Lilliana Rose is going to be good. The first book, The Waking of Ghosts, introduces just some of the paranormals that will get you intrigued.
Lost Souls Academy accepts paranormals who don't fit in anywhere, a vampire with no fangs, a fairy with no wings, and others. When Zarya, a witch who has been kicked out of her coven and is also a ghosthunter, is being harassed by a ghost, she finds sanctuary at the Lost Souls Academy where she meets others and starts to learn a little more about her ghost.
Lilliana Rose has become a new favorite of mine and I am excited to see where she takes us in this new series.

Witches, werewolves, vampires, and ghosts oh my. The thing is these characters are "black sheep" of their covens, packs, and clans. Welcome to the Lost Soul Academy. Who wouldn't want to live in a academy located in a library. It was fun to get to know each character and their trait. As Zayra is trying to find her way there is evil out to get her.

There is plenty of action and twists to keep you reading. Just as Zayra starts to figure out the ghost who is haunting her the story ends on a cliffhanger. I can't wait to read the next one.

Fast paced, full of action story that has great characters.

Zarya has been outed by her family, her coven and her school. She was kicked out of her school where she was learning how to be a witch and use her magic. She had a little help from a few classmates bullying her which resulted in her getting kicked out.

Now Zarya is trying to make a living and to keep a place to live by hunting ghosts. Zarya helps people rid their homes of ghosts. Zarya is known as a ghosthunter, a freelancing ghosthunter.

Avery Blackbird has opened an academy for people with lost souls or someone who doesn’t quite fit in, in other places. Avery’s school consists of misfits like vampires without fangs or werewolves without a pack plus other paranormal misfits.

Upon Zarya’s arrival at the Lost Souls Academy she has a run in with a ghost at the school. Zarya does what she does best, yeah you guessed it she tries to banish the ghost and send him on his merry way when she learns that this particular ghost may not be going anywhere as he is the founder Avery Blackbird’s familiar. Yeah her first day could be her last. Will Zarya get kicked out of another school? Can she fit in with her new surroundings and fellow misfits?

The Waking of Ghosts is a great start to a whole new series of academy books. It has all the paranormal creatures like vampires, witches, werewolves, fae, ghosts and misfits that don’t fit in. The Waking of Ghosts also has enough action to catch your attention and keep you hanging on with every turn of the pages waiting to see what situation Zarya will find herself in next.

If you like paranormal creatures like vampires, werewolves, fae and ghosts then you are going to fall in love with The Waking of Ghosts.

The Waking of Ghosts (Lost Souls Academy Book 1) by Lilliana Rose is a fantastic story that I have had the privilege to read and give my honest review on. This is book number one in this fantastic start to a brand new series written by a brand new author for me to read. I fell in love with the characters and the story line so bad that I am hooked and can not wait to see what happens next. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading about witches, vampires, shifters , ghost and paranormal romance.

That was amazing! I love the descriptive language for both setting and characters. At first I thought Avery and Zarya were the same character; based on the description of their clothes. They have a similar style but there were key differences. Zarya the main character is great, while reading it felt like I was right there beside her. Oh! And the names are brilliant being unique while cohesive in the story. Excited to read the sequel, to see what happens next. Such a great read, first book I read in a year. Reminded me why I love reading.

Sometimes I click with a book. I fall face first into the author’s imaginary world and get so utterly wrapped up in it that I forget my own.

Unfortunately, that didn’t happen with this book.

I tried, I really did. Months ago, maybe a year, I started it but couldn’t get into it so it was tagged Try Again Later. And so I did.

I can’t narrow down why this book didn’t work for me. The characters? The dialogue? The plot? The writing style? Whatever the reason, it was an extremely slow read that felt very disjointed and repetitive. The characters whined consistently and while this *was* the first in series, they had the depth of a drip of water.

A library of knowledge and secrets...

Zarya has been on her own since being cast out by her coven and her parents for being a witch-ghost hunter hybrid. The strange invitation letter came soon after her encounter with a hostile ghost. Coincidence? Maybe not. The Academy of Lost Souls is intriguing. The library it is housed in is even more so.

This is a good series starter. There is mystery, implied future romance, danger, and paranormal action. It gives a hint of backstory for Zarya and several of the other students with just enough information about Avery to make me really curious. I received a free copy but my review is honest and voluntary.

What a fun and fast-paced read! Paranormal from the get-go, filled with werewolves, 'n fairies, and ghost hunters, oh my! If that sounds like your ticket then you will love it. Zarya is the resident outcast, not only from her family but also from her witch coven and school as well, leaving her to fend for herself. Major drama when she meets her nemesis in the park.

Beware of the cliffhanger ending...not everyone's cuppa, causing them much angst and/or to wait for the next book to arrive. But all in all a well-written book with lots to look forward to!

Lilliana Rose is quickly becoming one of my new favorite authors and this latest book definitely didn't disappoint. This is the first book in a new paranormal series with many unique characters that keeps you invested in the story from start to finish. Witches, vampires, werewolves, ghosts and ghost-hunters are among this unique group and I can't wait to read all of their stories. Drama, action, intrigue and suspense are all the great makings of this book. I am anxiously awaiting book two!!

This story introduces us to paranormal young adults who have been rejected by their own kind. The are brought together by a witch with revenge on her mind. This witch opens an academy to draw these lost ones to assist her plans for eventual revenge over those who have wronged her. This is an interesting and engrossing start to what promises to be a very good series. I'm curious to see what Zarya and the others learn in the next book, and where this new knowledge leads them.

I saved this one for when I was laid up after surgery - heart surgery - and it got me way too excited. The cover isn't a reflection of the main character who has long silver hair. And it isn't a complete story in itself. You immediately have to pick up the next book to find out what happens yet. I find the characters that Lilliana Rose creates are flawed but strong and relentless in their drive. We have a rejected person, a (to be continued...)
