CCTV footage showed a woman swiping the framed pic of the iconic Scots poet after an alleged disagreement with staff at the White Swan Hotel in Duns.

The group claimed the bar told them to “f*** off” - but this was denied by the pub on social media.

The group wrote on Instagram: “Robbie’s coming home with us the night”.

Taunting the hotel, they added: “Tell weegie sabs to ‘f*** off’ and you better believe we will steal your items for no reason and run away cackling into the night”.

And on social media they also alleged that the boozer was a “pro hunt pub”.

Slamming the saboteurs, the hotel wrote: “At no point did any of our staff tell these people to “f*** off”.

“As you can see from the Instagram post you’ve posted “you better believe we will steal your items for no reason” .

“We have never came across sab members that act in this manner and I would hope this is not how they would like to be represented.

“If this is how they carry on, no they will not be made welcome in future.”

The Borders pub said that the saboteur thief was accompanied by three men and a woman when she stole the Burns pic.

They say that two of the men had long hair, and that the other one had green hair.

They told punters that the woman who accompanied the Burns thief had dreadlocks.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "We received a report of theft from a business on Market Square, Duns on Saturday, 18 January, 2020.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
