Police sealed off the road as they tackled the collision between the Volkswagen Golf and the gas tanker.

And officers have now confirmed that the 39-year-old female driver of the Golf sadly died at the scene.

The driver of the tanker was not seriously injured in the crash.

Sergeant David Ross, of Forth Valley Road Policing, said: "We're appealing to anyone who witnessed this or has any dash-cam footage to contact us on 101 quoting incident number 1088 of 25 February."

The death comes just days after a family of four were killed in another road tragedy in Scotland.

A couple and their two kids died in a smash in treacherous weather conditions on Thursday night near Fort William.

Driver Gemma Cousin, 26, her husband Rhys, 25, and cherished daughters Peyton, three, and Heidi, one, were pronounced dead at the scene of their green Mini Cooper’s collision with a red Ford Fiesta on the A82 at Torlundy.

Heartbroken relatives led tributes to the young family, describing them as "perfect".
