Cougars tip off at 5 p.m., Saturday, inside Moody Coliseum in Dallas

DALLAS – Winners of 14 of its last 16 games, the University of Houston Men's Basketball program wraps up its brief road swing when it faces SMU at 5 p.m., Saturday, inside Moody Coliseum.

The No. 20/19 Cougars enter this weekend's game following a tough 62-58 win at USF on Wednesday in Tampa, Fla. Sophomore guard Quentin Grimes led Houston with 22 points and grabbed six rebounds with five assists, while junior forward Fabian White Jr. added 10 points with five boards and a pair of steals.

With that win the 2019-20 Cougars became the 26th team in school history to record 20 victories in a season. It also marked the fifth consecutive season in which Houston won 20+ games under two-time defending American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year Kelvin Sampson, a first in program history.

Since 2017-18, the Cougars are tied as the fourth-winningest program in NCAA Division I with 80 victories. Only Gonzaga (90), Virginia (82) and Duke (82) have more wins.

With 53 wins in the last two seasons, the Cougars are tied with Duke for the second-most wins and trail only Gonzaga (58).

With his fifth 20-point game of the season, Grimes moved into the team lead with 12.64 points per game. Redshirt freshman guard Caleb Mills is a close second at 12.56 points per contest and need only two more points to move into Houston's Top-10 freshman single-season scorers.

Sophomore guard Nate Hinton leads Houston and ranks fourth in The American with 9.2 rebounds per game, while junior guard DeJon Jarreau tops the team with 3.8 assists per contest. Jarreau needs only 10 more assists to become the 19th player in Houston history with multiple 100+ assist seasons during his career.
