Southeast Capital Investment Group Raymond James Scholarship

Southeast Capital Investment Group recognizes the importance of cultivating young talent in the finance industry, as it plays a crucial role in driving economic growth. As part of this commitment, they have chosen to establish a $500 scholarship offered to Valdosta High School and Valdosta Early College Academy seniors. Eligible recipients should demonstrate a passion for finance or a related field, with aspirations to later pursue a career in the sector.

Annual Scholarship

The Valdosta City Schools Foundation, Inc. has $1,000 scholarship(s) available for students who are currently enrolled in Valdosta High School or Valdosta Early College Academy and plan to attend a college, university or technical school.

How To Apply:

  • Apply online 

  • Student applicants must complete all required application materials outlined below. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Have an adult review your completed application before submitting. The applicant will receive an email with a PDF document of their application for review.

  • Counselor must complete the following form (https://forms.gle/XYmJXMPxPfC3Jd4S7). This will include the student's official high school transcript.

  • Student applicants must submit their completed application packet online by 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for a scholarship:

  • Preference is given to students who have been enrolled in Valdosta City Schools from K – 12th grade.

  • The student must be enrolled in Valdosta High School or Valdosta Early College Academy.

  • The student must be accepted for admission to an accredited college, university, or technical school (attach acceptance letter(s)).

  • The student must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher throughout their junior and senior years.

  • The student must retain full-time enrollment.

Students who meet the eligibility requirements will be rated and selected by a scholarship committee based on the following criteria (incomplete scholarship application packets will not be rated):

  • Scholarship eligibility criteria

  • All requirements of the Scholarship Application

  • College planning and preparation

  • Letter(s) of enrollment acceptance from a public college, university, or technical school

  • Personal essay from the student discussing their life experiences and expressing their future plans and goals. Students should take this opportunity to speak personally about their struggles, their victories, those things that set them apart from their peers.

  • Letter of support from an adult who states (1) potential for applicant’s success in and beyond college and (2) why the student should be the recipient from among the applicants.

  • Completed counselor's form (https://forms.gle/XYmJXMPxPfC3Jd4S7). This will include the student's official high school transcript.

Harley Langdale Jr. Foundation

Scholarship

Up to five (5) $500 scholarships will be awarded to students from Valdosta High School and/or Valdosta Early College Academy planning to attend technical school, college or university. If you are interested, please submit a completed application no later than 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

The Harley Langdale, Jr. Foundation was formed in 1958 exclusively for charitable, educational, scientific or religious purposes.  The Foundation seeks to enhance our community and to promote the entrepreneurial spirit that Harley Langdale, Jr. exhibited throughout his life.  Our focus is the support of education programs, health care initiatives, faith based activities, youth programs and other initiatives to foster community improvement primarily in Georgia.

Scholarship

A $500 scholarship will be awarded to a student from Valdosta High School or Valdosta Early College Academy planning to attend technical school, college or university. If you are interested, please submit a completed application no later than 11:59 pm on Sunday, April 7, 2024.

Kicks for Cats is a nonprofit organization founded by Brayden Anderson and Jay Ball, two VHS Wildcats, that provides shoes for students in need in the Valdosta City School system.

Edward Colton Dean Memorial Scholarship

Valdosta High School Naval JROTC Program

The Edward Colton Dean Memorial Scholarship is a $1,500 scholarship available a graduating senior involved in the VHS Naval JROTC program who plans to attend a college, university or technical school.

Who was Edward Colton Dean?

Edward Colton Dean, or Colt, as his friends and family called him, was a Wildcat to his core! He could make friends easily and loved everything about the JROTC program.  Following in his brother Reed's footsteps at VHS was a challenge Colt accepted and one he excelled at as a VHS Cadet. He felt that leadership was giving your all for the sake of those around you.  He strived to lead not by force, but by integrity, honor, empathy and honesty.  This scholarship is to honor his efforts, his memory and his friendships through the VHS Naval JROTC.

South Georgia Medical Center Foundation Scholarship

The South Georgia Medical Center Scholarship was established in 2024 by a generous gift from the SGMC Foundation in order to provide scholarships to Valdosta High School and/or Valdosta Early College Academy seniors seeking to pursue a career in the field of health care. The SGMC Scholarship exists to alleviate some of the financial burden of higher education in order to help create a future for healthcare students in South Georgia. SGMC Scholarship recipients will be awarded $1,000.

SGMC Scholarship recipients must be the following criterion:

  • VHS/VECA Seniors with a GPA of 3.0 or higher interested in seeking a career in the healthcare industry

  • Students must plan on attending a post-secondary institution in the State of Georgia during the duration of the scholarship year

  • Students must have an expressed interest in returning to South Georgia to serve in the field of health care upon college graduation.

  • Student must be a U.S. citizen

Lowther Memorial Scholarship

Roosevelt Lowther Memorial Scholarship

Mr. Roosevelt Lowther was a beloved member of the Valdosta Wildcat community and this scholarship was established by family and friends to honor his lifelong Wildcat legacy.

Mr. Lowther spent his entire career in Valdosta City Schools.  He began in August of 1979 serving one year at Valdosta High School.  In 1980, he moved to Valdosta Junior High School and spent 14 years teaching in the science department.  During the summer of 1994 he moved back to Valdosta High School where he completed 21 more years teaching various science courses.  Lowther retired in May of 2014 but came back for one year as a part-time science teacher.  Following that year, he has remained a constant on the campus of VHS as a long-term and day to day substitute teacher.  He loved his Friday night responsibilities as the "on-duty" teacher for the VHS student section at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium.

Annual Scholarships

Valdosta City Schools Foundation, Inc. is thrilled to release two $1,000, one time scholarships available to current certified employees working towards an advanced educational degree and classified employees working towards an education degree.  

Recipients must plan to return to Valdosta City Schools for the 2024-25 school year.  In the event the recipient leaves VCS within 3 calendar years of receiving the scholarship, the funds must be repaid to the Valdosta City Schools Foundation, Inc. within thirty days of official resignation.

How To Apply:

  • Applicants must complete all required application materials outlined below. Incomplete applications will not be considered. 

  • The applicant will receive an email with a PDF document of their application. In the event of any errors, please contact the VCS Foundation, Inc. prior to the scholarship application deadline.

  • Applicants must submit their completed application packet by April 30, 2024.


Scholarship Eligibility Criteria:

Applicants must meet the following eligibility criteria to be considered for the scholarship:

  • The applicant must be employed by Valdosta City Schools/Valdosta Board of Education.

  • The applicant must be attending an accredited college, university, or technical school (transcripts will be required).

  • The applicant must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

  • The applicant must be returning to VCS for the 2024-25 school year.  

  • Extra points will be awarded based on years of service with Valdosta City Schools.  

Applicants who meet the eligibility requirements will be rated and selected by a scholarship committee based on the following criteria (incomplete scholarship application packets will not be rated):

  • Scholarship eligibility criteria

  • All requirements of the Scholarship Application

  • College planning and preparation

  • Personal essay from the applicant outlining the reason(s) for wanting to pursue an advanced college/technical degree and the applicant's college and career goals in the personal essay. We also ask that each applicant share the ways they intend to or currently inspire their students and how they maintain that inspiration.  

  • The letter(s) of recommendation should expand on the applicant's potential for success beyond their current classroom role as well as why the applicant should be the recipient of the scholarship. At least one letter should be from the applicant's principal, assistant principal, department head or lead teacher.
