Steven Pienaar will miss South Africa's upcoming friendlies

Everton midfielder Steven Pienaar is out of the South Africa squad for forthcoming friendlies against Norway and Iceland because of injury.

The 27-year-old suffered his knee injury at the hands of international captain Aaron Mokoena.

Mokoena unwittingly inflicted severe bruising on his compatriot when Portsmouth lost 1-0 to Everton in the Premier League last month.

Franklin Cale of Ajax Cape Town has been called up to replace Pienaar.

Bloemfontein Celtic captain Thabo Nthethe has also been called up to the squad, he replaces Belgium-based defender Anele Ngcongca who has had to withdraw due to a family bereavement.

The 2010 World Cup hosts face Norway in Oslo on 10 October, before taking on Iceland in Reykjavik three days later.
