Like teammate Bobby Orr, Derek Sanderson has outstanding credentials in junior hockey. Also like Orr, Sanderson won the NHL rookie of the year award with a stunning 24 goal output last season. He’s just a youngster, 22 years old.
Details
Derek Sanderson’s 24 goals in his 1967-68 rookie campaign indeed earned him Calder Trophy honours as National Hockey League rookie of the year. However, it wouldn’t get much better than that over his NHL career.
Sanderson topped out with a 29 goal performance for the Bruins in 1970-71. Not quite what fans envisioned after his 41 goals in 47 games for the Niagara Falls Flyers in his final season of major junior hockey.
