From New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Rebecca Zanetti comes a new story in her Dark Protectors/Rebels series…

Dr. Mariana Lopez has finally stopped bailing friends out of difficult situations. Well, except for substituting as the leader for another anger management group, pitching in as a campaign strategist for a prospective sheriff, and babysitting three dogs. Even with such a full life, she can feel the danger around her—a sense that something isn’t right. Nightmares harass her, until the real thing comes to life, and only the dark and sexy male sitting in her group can save her. However, with safety comes a price she might not be willing to pay.

Raine Maxwell is one of the Maxwells out of Montana, which means he's not only one of the most deadly vampires alive, but his path is set and his mate has been chosen for him. To save him—to continue his line. Unfortunately, his mate is an enhanced human female who has no idea of her abilities, of his species, or of her future. He’d like to lead her gently into this new world, but his people aren’t the only ones who’ve found her, which puts her into more danger than she can imagine. Plus, in order to follow his laws, he only has one week to convince her that immortality with him is what she wants—and needs.

**Every 1001 Dark Nights novella is a standalone story. For new readers, it’s an introduction to an author’s world. And for fans, it’s a bonus book in the author’s series. We hope you'll enjoy each one as much as we do.**

Vampire by Rebecca Zanetti
Dark Protectors book 12.5. Sub trilogy of Vengeance, Vixon and Vampire. Paranormal romance novella from 1001 Dark Nights. Best read as part of the series (trilogy).
Mariana is being threatened by a stalker. Raine Maxwell will do whatever is necessary to protect his unclaimed mate, even from the crooked sheriff.

Fast moving and fun with the characters from Vengeance and Vixon playing key roles. The chemistry was strong between the strong and independent female and the protective vampire. Loved the ending of the trilogy and the “just desserts”.

The Dark Protectors series is one of my absolute favorite PNR stories of all time and I can always be counted on to buy and review. How can anyone resist hot alphas, fierce heroines, intriguing plots and twists, the danger element, the familial dynamics, the love... the everything??? If you're a fan of the series, this a neat treat to hold us over until the next book. If you're new to this series, what an amazing introduction!

This book was a must read for me because I met both Dr. Mariana Lopez and Raine Maxwell in the prior 1,001 Dark Nights installment of the Dark Protectors Series, Vixen, and I knew that their story was going to be one heck of a ride, and it soooo was.

Dr. Lopez ran an anger-management group and that is where she met Raine, what she didn't know then was that he's not human and she's his fated mate. Well, that sounds easy enough to rectify right?!?! Nope, it's anything but because she has a stalker.

This was a fast paced, action packed, steamy paranormal romance, that will have your heart pumping for more than one reason.

If you enjoy Paranormal Romances, or more specifically Vampire Romances, this one is for you. No worries if you haven't read any of the other books in the series because this book can be read as a standalone. I love that 1,001 Dark Nights and Rebecca Zanetti are giving us this little peek into her series so you can decide if it's for you or not. I have only read Vixen so far but these two books definitely have me interested in reading the rest of the series. I hope you grab a copy of this book to see what I mean, I'm sure you'll be happy you did.

Happy Reading!!!

Vampire was an amazing paranormal romance featuring a romance between a vampire and the human woman he falls for.

Dr. Mariana Lopez fled Dallas to get away from a stalker but it seems they've followed her to her new home in Indiana. After Raine Maxwell is pulled in by the stalker's actions, he is determined to help Mariana out of danger. But what Mariana doesn't know is that Raine is a vampire and she is his mate. When Raine is forced to reveal the truth, Mariana will have to decide if she wants Raine because forever for a vampire is a whole lot longer.

Vampire is a novella in the author's Dark Protectors series with a storyline and characters that are connected with two other novellas, Vengeance and Vixen. Vixen is the only other book in the series that I've read so I did have some familiarity with the characters and setting of this book. That said, Vampire works well as a standalone as the plot is fairly self-contained with only some minor references to the events of the previous two novellas. I do recommend reading the other novellas though as the character group overlaps quite a bit and having the backstory should make this book more enjoyable.

Mariana is an amazing main character and I loved her right away. After she is kidnapped at the start of the book, she's level-headed and determined to find a way out of the situation. I liked that she had more control over herself than Raine did in the situation. Raine is your typical alpha male hero which thankfully is something I enjoy in my paranormal romances. At first, Raine doesn't want to complete the mating bond as he feels it is him taking away Mariana's choice. I loved that he cared so much about what she wanted and didn't want to make her life harder. Once their relationship does start to move forward, it's so well done. There were a number of explicit scenes that were just the right amount of steamy and I thoroughly enjoyed them. The plot in this book isn't too dramatic and I liked that it served as a means of moving the romance forward.

Overall Vampire was a great read and I will definitely be checking out more books in the Dark Protectors series in the future.

3.5 stars!

This is the third novella in the Dark Protectors/Rebels series, and it’s another fun and exciting ride in a paranormal world that I cannot get enough of.

These books are a spin-off from the Dark Protectors series, and can be read independently of those books but the Rebels books should definitely be read in order as the storyline is continuous, focusing on a different couple in each book. The characters are all part of an anger management group which is made up of mostly badass supernatural beings – though human group leader, Dr Mariana Lopez has no idea.

Mariana moved to a small town in Indiana to escape a stalker, and has settled in well to her new community. But she is plagued by nightmares and a feeling that something is wrong, and it seems that her stalker is making a comeback when she starts to receive frightening messages once again. Then there’s the matter of her inconvenient lusting after one of her group members, the gorgeous Raine.

Raine is a vampire/demon hybrid and is super powerful, but he is living with a deadly curse that will cut his life short unless he can find his mate and claim her. Well, he’s found her, and it’s none other than Mariana. She has no clue about the supernatural world, and because Raine has no plans to actually mate her, he is bound by laws not to tell her anything about it. But that doesn’t mean he can’t protect her once he realises she is in danger.

It’s all action from the very beginning, and being a novella, the story moves at a fast pace. So as soon as Raine learns what’s going on with Mariana, he moves himself into her house against her will, getting all up in her business so that he can protect her, and it’s so entertaining.

She cleared her throat, forcing herself to stare him right in the eyes. “I don’t go for the alpha-male act, dickhead.”
His smile was slow and held enough warning that she stopped breathing. “Oh, sweetheart. Don’t play games with me, and don’t lie to either one of us. You’re as aroused right now as I am, and you should definitely understand that this isn’t an act.”

There’s great chemistry between the two of them, and though neither of them deny their attraction, Raine is determined not to drag Mariana into his world, and into the path of his enemies. So we get this wonderfully angsty sexual tension that builds and builds until their inevitable coming together (which is so very hot!). And all the while they are battling unknown danger, continued threats, and an over-zealous sheriff who believes Raine is actually the bad guy. It’s lots of fun, and I couldn’t put this book down, desperate to know how it was all going to work out.

Characters from the previous book are on hand to help, and we get introduced to some of Raine’s brothers, and their banter-filled interactions are so much fun. I’m hoping we get to see more of them in the future.

I really enjoyed this book. Funny, sexy and suspenseful with great action, it’s a great read. I do wish it would have been a bit longer though. There is so much to Raine’s background that I wanted to know more about, and the romance is wrapped up quickly, I would have liked just a little bit more of that, too. But overall, it’s definitely a great addition to the series.

3.5 stars!

Stalked by love

This little town is becoming the perfect refuge for the immortally inclined and each new story adds to the weave. I love the characters in this story! We got a chance to see some of the other couples I love and we got to watch these two struggle together while trying to stay apart. But the author knew exactly what she was doing when she threw in a stalker, a crooked cop, and fate, making for a dangerous and exciting book that I just couldn’t put down. The story is fast paced and steamy, and everything I expect from this talented author. I throughly enjoyed this book and can’t wait for the next one, but until then I find myself wanting to start the series all over again.

~~I received a free copy of this book to read and review for Wicked Reads ~~

This is book 12.5 of the series, but the 1001 books are designed to introduce new readers to a series as well as giving faithful fans a little treat. Either way, this is a lovely novella which gives a good run through the basic details of the paranormal world, and delivers a very satisfying ending.

Raine Maxwell needs to seal the deal with his mate, Mariana to survive, but he is reluctant to bring her into the world of which she knows nothing. He cannot help being close to her though, and indulging a little in the desire that he feels for her.

Mariana has a problem when her stalker seems to re-emerge, even after her relocation, and the chaos that this turn of events heralds is even more confusing than she ever imagined. I loved that she was prepared to be open-minded, that she definitely planned on being everything to Raine, not just a mate in name - and it was fun that she got to see a whole new side to her close friends.

I would definitely recommend this read as it is fun, sexy and dips into that other world that it is so much fun to (imagine/know?) exists !

This short concludes Zanetti's Dark Protectors/Rebels trilogy about a group who met in an anger management class in the first book, Vengeance and continued into the second, Vixen.

Each were short, but fun reads and nice additions to her Dark Protectors series.

I'm anxious for the next two books forthcoming this year and two in 2022. (* squee * nerd girl happy dance * 🤓)

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A book that I devoured in one night ><
I must admit that I am in a bookish vacuum ... I hardly read anything these days (no fanfictions, romances or fantasy ...) but the Rebecca Zanetti books are one of my favorites and I was impatiently waiting for Vampire =D
As usual, an addictive romance with passion, action and humor ... BUT MUCH TOO SHORT >< I would have liked a hundred more pages =D
In short, another good read, perfect for distraction
PS: for those who loved the little glimpses of Benny in this book, I had the chance to read Rebel's Karma and it is AWESOME =D
Vampire (Dark Protectors #12.5) by Rebecca Zanetti
3.5 stars
M/F Paranormal romance
Triggers: Stalking
I was given this book for an honest review by Wicked Reads.
Dr. Mariana Lopez has a stalker that she just can’t shake. When she moves, but still finds herself kidnapped and mysterious flowers arrive, she knows she’s been found again.
Raine Maxwell is cursed. He knows it, his family knows it and his friends. The one person who might save him is someone he loves, but can’t bring himself to mark her.
With Raine trying to figure out who’s after Mariana, Mariana trying to figure out if Raine can be trusted and an entire network of people who are either rooting for them or rooting against them, it will take a leap of faith on both Raine and Mariana’s part to find happiness.
This was a quick novella that was entertaining to read. However, I would recommend reading the previous books in the series, as it sometimes felt that it would have been more enjoyable had you known more from the series.
Another wonderful addition to the Dark Protectors / 1001 Dark Nights world!
Rating: 4 stars
Steam: 2.5 flames
Genre: PNR / Fated Mates / Vampires
*****
In 1001 Dark Nights - Vampire we get Raine Maxwell’s story. First, I am a big fan of the overprotective, uber alpha, vampire/demon with a fated mate… boy howdy does Raine check all my blocks. But Raine has a secret, one that could cost him everything.
Dr. Mariana Lopez, strong, smart, and independent...has been harboring a secret too. When Raine and Mariana come face to face with danger how will they react? Can they trust each other or will external forces try to turn them against each other?
Mariana was a fantastic character, and I loved the fact that she did not let Raine walk all over her and that she had a stiff spine and would stand up to him. The fact that they were both so protective of the other was pretty awesome too. I felt the chemistry leaping off the pages, it was like fireworks when these two interacted.
This 1001 Dark Nights addition to the Dark Protectors series had a suspenseful storyline, was fast paced, steamy, and of course fated mates…. swoon. I never had the story pegged and when the truth starts to come out, I was impressed that I never saw that coming.
I love a fated mate's story and I love the entire Dark Protectors series, along with the Dark Nights novella’s. Vampire is another must read in my opinion and I highly recommend not only Vampire, but the entire Dark Protectors series!
I received a free copy of this book from the publisher.
This novella is part of the Dark Protectors / Rebels series.  Typically I would say that you wouldn't have to have read any of the series prior to this novella.  This particular book, however, I thought had more references to other instances that had happened in prior books that you'd need to know before reading Vampire.
Mariana and Raine's story is a bit different as he's trying to stay away from her and she's trying to figure out who's stalking her.  Mariana has no idea the supernatural exist or that she's considered part of their world. Raine needs her but he refuses to put her in the position of sustaining him.
Overall this novella was a quick read.  It has a lot going on in such a short story. If you're a reader of Rebecca Zanetti's, as I am, I think you'll enjoy this quick read and a little catch up on a couple of characters.
An enjoyable paranormal romance.
This short paranormal romance had good world building, tight plotting, and good characterization. The hero and heroine were both sympathetic individuals with strengths and weaknesses. The development of the romantic relationship was hot, with these two having great chemistry. The hero was deliciously alpha and heroine was strong and smart. Reading this was an enjoyable way to spend the early morning hours.
A novella set in the world of the Dark Protectors series, Vampire by Rebecca Zanetti is a great addition to the series as well as a great introduction for new readers.
Psychiatrist Mariana Lopez has a stalker. He’s followed her from Texas to her new home in Indiana, and if the white roses he keeps sending weren’t enough, he’s now kidnapped her. Luckily for Mariana, her former patient Raine Maxwell has gotten himself kidnapped, too. Once freed, it doesn’t take long for Mariana to realize that the local sheriff isn’t going to be much help and the only thing making her feel safe is Raine’s tall, well-muscled body. Against her better judgment, Mariana finds herself falling for Raine, but will Raine reciprocate - or has he given up on any possibility of love, considering himself doomed to the Maxwell Curse?
I thoroughly enjoyed Vampire. While part of a larger series, Vampire was an excellent introduction to Zanetti’s Dark Protectors world for new readers. While there were plenty of references to past events, and many of the characters are introduced in previous novels, this novella assumes no prior knowledge and eases readers into Raine and Mariana’s world. However, if you have read some or all of Zanetti’s Dark Protectors novels, Vampire is a nice bonus story, giving you a quick, in-between story that furthers along the overall plot while not being too heavy on action and details. Zanetti’s latest is a perfect addition to the Dark Protectors series and is a balanced blend of new and old, making Vampire a sure favorite among Dark Protector fans and a wonderful introduction to the series for new readers.
Score: 5/10
Reread: no
Read other books in the series: no
I got this as a short story to read and it kind of disappointed me. While I can not say that it was bad or that I did not enjoy it, I have definitely seen better.
First of all, I know that writing a novella into a series that you also publish outside of the reading order is kind of hard, this book was extremely confusing. I was expecting some quick 101 on the world etc so we could see everything incorrect light, this was a bit too much. I was expecting vampires and demons and I would have gone along with some of the nonsense but there was some weird shit going on.
I was ready to move past that and like it, but the characters and the writing were not that amazing, and more than that, I did not quite like the sex scenes. Basically, this book was just borderline ok for me, I would not want to read it again or anything in this series since all the characters kind of annoyed me, but I do not regret reading it.
This one is a continuation from Vengeance and Vixen. Now Dr. Mariana Lopez and Raine Maxwell have their turn. Mariana has a stalker and Raine will not rest until found. Raine also has a family curse. A genetic disease that all males in his family have- a lot like Huntington disease . The only real cure is mating with life long blood exchange. I am so glad the stupid sheriff got his due.
Another must read book!
Rebecca Zanetti is definitely a master storyteller! This book was written phenomenally, the characters, setting, and story is very well crafted and draws the reader in within the first chapter of the book. The romance between Raine and Mariana is beautifully written. I loved reading about previous characters in the Dark Protectors world that have already had their own stories before Raine and Mariana. I must say I absolutely love every book I've read by Rebecca Zanetti! This book is definitely a must read and will draw you in quickly and you'll have trouble putting it down! I read the book on Kindle and listened to the book via Audible and both methods are perfect! I hope everyone that reads this enjoys it as much as I did!
I love the 1001 Dark Night Novellas. It a great way to check out a new authors books. I'm huge fan of Rebecca's Dark Protectors series. There is great world building and great characters. Raine and Marinna are destined to be together. Only Raine is a dying vampire and he doesn't want to drag Marinna into his life only to leave her. This story has humor, suspense, and great chemistry between the characters. I can't wait to read more about Raine's family.
One you have to keep reading! Mariana finds some white roses on her doorstep & fears that the stalker that forced her to move from Dallas has followed her here. She just doesn't know how he found her. She sends word to her friend to let her know what is going on. As she is looking around her house checking the locks, her door is thrown open & she is kidnapped with a hood over her head. Raine is darted with sedatives that knock him out for several hours & he finds himself cuffed & hooded in an old barn. He hears a door open & Mariana is dragged out, thrown onto the floor with him. He gets loose & loses the hood. He lets her know he is there & releases her. She assumes that the stalker must have seen him around her & decided to grab him as well as her. She says they need to escape. There is an awful storm rolling over them so Raine, says they need to wait it out. After it lets up they start walking & a farmer picks them up & drives them into to town. They end up at the sheriff's dept. to report the crime. The sheriff Baker, a rather corrupt cop, who seems to be some what interested in Mariana, is listening to them tell what happened. He then tries to convince Mariana that Raine kidnapped her & is trying to manipulate her into asking for protection. He tries to arrest him. She listens to some of the things he points out & is a little undecided until his son Deputy Baker asks if he should arrest Raine. Then she puts a stop to what the Sheriff is trying to do. She cannot believe that he hired Johnny as a lawman & put a gun in his hands. He had spent the last year beating up his young wife & had been arrested by Detective Evan McConnell. He had been put into the anger management class of Dr. Mariana Lopez but only went to one session, so he didn't graduate. However, Johnny's uncle, the Judge, who is about as corrupt as the Sheriff got the charges dropped & his dad hired him as a Deputy. Mariana tells them both to stop trying to put it on Raine. They leave. When they are back at her house he tells her he is staying until they catch the stalker. She tries to tell him no but it gets vetoed. Evan & Tabi Rusko, a demoness are in her kitchen when Raine gets out of the shower. They are trying to figure out if the kidnapping has anything to do with the stalker or if it might have something to do with Raine & the tattoo he has now. Mariana doesn't know what they are talking about & is finding it very confusing. Raine asks if she has her old case files about the stalker, his brother is an expert technical analyst. He might be able to help them. After Evan & Tabi leave they start talking, she notices he looks better than he did earlier. She asks about his health. He tries to tell her he is fine. She asks about his tattoo, the mating mark on his hand. She wonders when he got it. They kiss & again she asks about what is wrong with him. He tells her he is dying. He wonders if she would like to have a short fling with him. She can't believe he thinks she would be that stupid! He finally calls the doctor working with his family about the problem to verify that he is not lying to her. She finds out it is a genetic disease passed father to son, in his family called the Maxwell curse. She finds out there is a cure but it can be dangerous & he will not try it. After she apologizes for not believing him & having a glass of wine the door bell rings. He opens the door to find 3 dozen white roses being delivered to her doorstep, with a creepy note. Later Tabi & Evan come back to see him after Marianna is asleep. Tabi knows something is wrong with him but doesn't know what. Immortals don't get sick. Evan keeps trying to get her to leave him alone while she keeps asking questions to find out what is wrong. He finally gets her to relent & give him some peace. After they leave, Raine is about to go to sleep when he hears a loud bang. He runs out of the guest room & sees Marianna run into the living room. They both hear an explosion, he opens the front door to see his truck burning. Not long after she gets dressed she hears the Sheriff & Johnny in the living room with Raine trying to make it sound like this was his doing. The Sheriff offers to take her into protective custody by herself at this time. She says no. They leave. She & Raine try to calm down a little. She decides she would like to have a fling with him. Afterwards, he learns a little about her life before she moved here. The next morning he & Evan are looking at his truck as they start talking about Evan's adapting to this world. He hasn't been part of it very long. Tabi mated him a few months ago, so he is still trying to get used to his new strength & talents he may come up with. Enhanced Males are unheard of, thought they had all been killed off by the kurjans long ago. When he asks Evan to look out for Marianna for him he wonders why. Raines tells him his time is limited. About then the Sheriff pulls in & arrests him for the bombing of his truck, kidnapping Marianna & stalking her. Marianna & Tabi come out to hear Raine tell them to call a number on his cell phone for his lawyer. She calls & tells the man who answered what has happened. He says he is pretty close & should be there soon. She hears the Sheriff talking, comes into the living room & tells him to get out. Tabi just wants to beat the crap out of him, but Marianna won't let her because he will just press charges against her. He tries to make them go away. He shows her some photos sent from security cams in Dallas when she was still living there. It shows Raine in a lot of them. She can't believe he is the stalker. It just couldn't be! Tabi tries to aske him why he would ruin his own truck? The sheriff says to send them off his tail. The sheriff has Raine in trying to get him to confess to all charges when the door slams open & his brother Cade walks in. He finds out that Cade was close by. He figures it out! He is going to kill him! He finds out his brother Collins helped him get this little "family matter" together. The sheriff doesn't know what they are talking about. Raine tells him to get him out of here & the sheriff tells him not happening. The sheriff keeps tossing remarks at them when one of the deputies comes in to say he has no record. They tell him if he isn't released Raine is going to sue him for everything he has. They let him go. While this is going on Marianna is packing, she is going to take a small trip away from everyone so she can get stop being so confused! Evan tells her she should wait & hear what Raine has to say but she just needs to step back & take a breather. she tells them she will call when she gets to her destination. She stops at a rest stop & when she comes out her car is gone! She is knocked out. When she wakes up she is in a closet on the floor. When she starts looking around for a way out a guy in a creepy mask opens the door & has her sit in a chair. They are in a little hanger at some private airport. Raine & Cade Are already on the way because he put a tracker in her purse. He calls Benny because he wants to find out what is going on. The tracker is going the wrong way. Benny's friend hacks into the security camera to tell him Marianna was kidnapped by Kurjans, but she can't tell him anymore. The video is being wiped clean as they are speaking. As they are waiting out the storm & for a few of their people to show up, the kujan watching Marianna is answering a few of her questions. They found her because of the mating mark the Dallas police were trying to find on the internet. Raine's tattoo. She's not mated, so she's fair game. He tells her that because she is an enhanced female, she is to be taken for one of his people. She doesn't know what he means. He says more about vampires, shifter, demons & witches. She isn't believing it. She makes a dash for her purse & gun, he grabs her. Raine breaks open the door to free her from the kurjan. She sees the other man fighting the guards by the door, when Raine & her attacker start fighting. she starts believing it when she sees the guy pull Raine's knife out of his neck & watches the wound close up. Raine finally decapitates him. She runs for the door as Cade finishes off his foes. Raine gets her to their car. She is fairly shaken by what she has just learned when Cade jumps in & introduces himself. He then apologizes for kidnapping her & Raine the other morning. He & his brother thought if they had some time alone together Raine might get things going. She verifies everything she has just heard from the Kurjan. Learning that Raine & his brothers are vampires. Tabi is a demoness, Evan an enhanced male / mated immortal. They go back to her house & Cade leaves. Marianna finds out that the cure to the Maxwell curse is for the Maxwell to mate with his destined mate. He didn't want to try it because if he mated her it would make her an even bigger target. All his enemies would be after her. She thinks about it for a while & decide she wants to be with him. She will risk it. They mate. The next morning Raine gets a call from the sheriff about a new lead that connects to him & he goes to the station but takes Marianna to Tabi's so she will be safe. While they are there Johnny's soon to be ex wife gets a call from him saying if she doesn't come get her things it is all going to the dump. She & Tabi go to get her mother's china set. Marianna stays there. The sheriff knocks on the door, Marianna opens it. He tells her Raine sent him to get her. She knows he is lying, because Raine would never send the sheriff to her. She tries to shut the door, he won't let her. He pulls his gun & tells her to get into the car. He just wanted to talk to her, is that so bad? All he wanted to do was help her, but instead she turned to that Maxwell jerk. He says a few more things to let her know he sent the white roses here. He wanted her to come to him for help. She tries to get out of the car & Raine rips the door off to knock the sheriff out. Later there is a party going on about Evan winning the election for sheriff. Marianna learns that her stalker in Dallas has been caught harrassing another woman. It was some guy who had worked in their system. Tabi is already starting her new ideas, Abby should run for Mayor. Raine should be the new Judge if they are really going to clean up this town. Both are not too sure about it, but Tabi is already starting her new campaign slogans. It is a great little story!
This is book 12.5 of the series, but the 1001 Dark Nights books are designed to introduce new readers to a series as well as giving faithful fans a little treat. Either way, this is a lovely novella which gives a good run through the basic details of the paranormal world, and delivers a very satisfying ending.
Raine Maxwell needs to seal the deal with his mate, Mariana, to survive, but he is reluctant to bring her into the world of which she knows nothing. He cannot help being close to her though and indulging a little in the desire that he feels for her.
Mariana has a problem when her stalker seems to re-emerge, even after her relocation, and the chaos that this turn of events heralds is even more confusing than she ever imagined. I loved that she was prepared to be open-minded, that she definitely planned on being everything to Raine, not just a mate in name – and it was fun that she got to see a whole new side to her close friends.
I would definitely recommend this read as it is fun, sexy, and dips into that other world that it is so much fun to (imagine/know?) exists!
M/F Paranormal Romance
Triggers: Stalking
Dr. Mariana Lopez has a stalker that she just can’t shake. When she moves, but still finds herself kidnapped and mysterious flowers arrive, she knows she’s been found again.
Raine Maxwell is cursed. He knows it, his family knows it, and his friends know it. The one person who might save him is someone he loves, but he can’t bring himself to mark her.
With Raine trying to figure out who’s after Mariana, Mariana trying to figure out if Raine can be trusted, and an entire network of people who are either rooting for them or rooting against them, it will take a leap of faith on both Raine and Mariana’s part to find happiness.
This was a quick novella that was entertaining to read. However, I would recommend reading the previous books in the series, as it sometimes felt that it would have been more enjoyable had you known more from the series.
These books are a spin-off from the Dark Protectors series, but they can also be read independently! This one is the third novella in the Dark protector/Rebels series. This series revolves around a group of characters who are all part of an anger management group which is made up of kick ass supernatural beings. However, the completely human group leader, Dr Mariana Lopez has no idea.
Mariana moved away to a small town out in Indiana to flee from a stalker. Though her move went well and she's all settled in to the new community the nightmares continue to haunt her, she can't seem to shake off the feeling that something is terribly wrong. She begins to receive threatening messages and she soon realizes that the stalker she did everything she could to escape had made a come back. Though while dealing with all this there was one other complication in her life that she wasn't sure if she needed to find a solution for or not and that was Raine.
Raine is a powerful vampire/demon hybrid, but the catch is that he's living with a deadly curse that will cut his life short unless he finds his mate and claims her. You guessed it, he's found his mate in the most unexpected place, his anger management class. Mariana knows nothing about the supernatural world, and Raine has no plans to actually mate her. Though Raine can't tell her about the supernatural world as he is bound by laws not too, it doesn't stop him from wanting to protect her once he realized the danger she was in.
What I loved about the book was its pace, from the get go its action and story unfolds in front of your eyes and you can't seem to put the book down no matter how hard you try. My favourite part being when Raine learned of Mariana's stalker, he moved himself into her house so that he could protect her. Who doesn't love the living together in close proximity till you inevitably fall in love" trope. There was amazing chemistry between Mariana and Raine despite him not wanting to get involved with her in order to protect and shield her from his world and its dangers. But like I said the falling in love was inevitable, as the sexual tension built through out the book and made their final coming together SO satisfying.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book it was the perfect concoction of sexy and funny with a suspenseful plot that kept me unable to stop reading.
3.5/5!
VAMPIRE by Rebecca Zanetti is instalment 12.5 in Rebecca Zanetti’s contemporary, adult DARK PROTECTORS/ REBELS erotic, paranormal romance series, and the latest entry in the multi-authored 1001 Dark Nights series. This is four hundred year old, vampire Raine Maxwell, and psychologist Dr. Mariana Lopez’s story line. VAMPIRE can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous instalments is revealed where necessary. The current arc of the series focuses on former/current members of Dr. Lopez’s anger management group, most of whom are not quite human.
Told from dual third person perspectives (Mariana and Raine) VAMPIRE follows the building romance and relationship between Mariana Lopez and Raine Maxwell. Mariana Lopez has a stalker, and finds herself a prisoner alongside Raine Maxwell, a former member of her anger management group but from the outset it looks like Raine may be a part of our heroine’s problem. When things begin to escalate, Raine becomes as much as a victim but a victim who isn’t helpless when Mariana’s life is threatened. Raine knows that Mariana is his mate but refuses to tie her to a potential life on the run, a life that is threatened by otherworldly beings, and the possibility that Raine will not be around for the long haul. What ensues is the building romance and relationship between Mariana and Raine, and the potential fall-out as Mariana’s stalker is determined to claim our heroine as his own.
VAMPIRE is a story of obsession, power, fate and love. We are reintroduced to vampire/demon and assassin/mercenary Noah Siosal, and Abby Miller; detective Evan McConnell, and his fiancé purebred demoness Tabitha (Tabi); Deputy Baker and his son Johnny. The fast paced premise is engaging and intriguing; the romance is seductive and hot; the characters are energetic, and powerful.
