- Lows Limited EV-only range, hybrid turbo V-6 lacks visceral appeal, price bumped over $15k from previous year.
- Verdict It's a plug-in hybrid supercar that can run on electricity alone but, most important, it delivers the McLaren connected-to-your synapses supercar experience.
Overview
Technically McLaren’s entry-level model, if such thing exists in the rarefied world of supercars, the Artura’s 2023 debut marked the maker's first foray into the world of plug-in hybrid powertrains. Light, powerful, and displaying a textbook if subtle example of McLaren’s modern styling ethos, it promptly landed a spot on our Editors' Choice list. The 2025 Artura sees a few updates, first and foremost the addition of the Spider open-top version. The electrically operated top stows in a claimed 11 seconds at speeds up to 31 mph; a dimmable electrochromic version is available to let the sunshine in—or not—with the top in place. The core interior attributes remain in place, and the Artura’s comfortable and livable cabin is remarkably accommodating for a supercar. Power from the twin-turbo 3.0-liter V-6 hybrid powertrain is up too, now rated for 690 horsepower compared to the previous model's 671. (Owners of 2023 and 2024 Arturas are offered the software update to bring their cars to 690 horses free of charge.) There are more changes underneath the skin, including a retuned chassis, a modified exhaust note, and improvements in the electrical architecture to ensure speedy communication between subsystems, just to name the highlights. All the updates work to keep this least costly McLaren a paragon of mid-engine, rear-drive performance at a price significantly more reasonable than some of its competitors—including its 750S big brother.

#6 in Best Luxury Sports CarsWhat's New for 2025?
In addition to the new Spider convertible model, both the Artura coupe and Spider see a 19-hp boost in output. Additional mechanical or performance updates include revised valving for the adaptive dampers, faster electrical architecture that dramatically quickens the response time of said dampers, a retuned exhaust with a “cleaner” sound that's said to envelop the passengers, new powertrain mounts for increased stiffness, and new aerodynamic ducting designed to increase airflow and improve cooling capability of the engine and brake components. A new, 15-spoke, silver finish wheel design is standard. The Dynamo and Star wheel designs offer a new gold-colored Orum finish; McLaren’s Caliber 10-Spoke Super-Lightweight wheel is optional and finished in Silver, Dark Stealth, or Gloss Black. All wheels can be accented with titanium wheel bolts said to reduce unsprung weight by a mere 0.9 pounds—certainly more of an interesting talking point than something that improves performance noticeably. Also new for 2025 is standard road sign recognition and lane departure warning while blindspot monitoring and cross-traffic detection join the options list.
Pricing and Which One to Buy
The price of the 2025 McLaren Artura starts at $256,308 and goes up to $281,008 depending on the trim and options.
While the open-top Spider is undeniably enticing, the coupe is still the purest representation the Artura’s core mission statement. It’s also a quite bit less expensive; of course, for wealthy sun worshippers, the approximately $25,000 upcharge for the Spider might seem like a bargain. There are countless options available for both models.
Engine, Transmission, and Performance
The Artura is powered by a new hybrid twin-turbo V-6 powertrain that makes a combined 690 horsepower and 531 pound-feet of torque. The gas engine is supplemented by an axial flux electric motor located within the housing of the eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and it's juiced by a 7.4-kWh lithium-ion battery pack under the rear of the cabin. Interestingly, McLaren states an owner “can expect” up to 21 miles of EV-only range, but the EPA states 11 miles of all-electric operation. During our initial test drive, we praised the Artura for its appropriately searing acceleration, but noted it lacked the auditory gratification we like in rival sports cars. McLaren must have agreed, as the 2025 Artura features a reworked exhaust designed to emit a more passionate soundtrack. The Artura is also the first McLaren to ride on the company's new Carbon Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), which is said to be lighter than its predecessor's structure. Handling is razor sharp and a blast to pitch around a racetrack, but it also has a softer side that provides a comfortable ride for commuting or highway cruising.
0–60-MPH Times
McLaren is speculatively quoting the Spiders 0-60 time at 3.0-seconds, but seeing as we escorted the earlier, slightly less powerful 2023 Artura Coupe to 60 mph in just 2.6 seconds, we have reason to believe real-world testing might shave a tenth or so from that figure.
Fuel Economy and Real-World MPG
EPA estimates are not in, but McLaren is claiming 19 mpg combined and 45 MPGe for the 2025 Artura Spider. That’s a small improvement over the 2024 Artura Coupe’s EPA estimates of 17 mpg city, 21 mpg highway, and 39 MPGe, but we’ll update this story when the EPA sets its numbers in stone. We're also hoping to run one on our 75-mph highway fuel-economy route, which is part of our extensive testing regimen, so we can evaluate its real-world mpg. For more information about the Artura's fuel economy, visit the EPA's website.
Interior, Comfort, and Cargo
Inside, the Artura demonstrates McLaren's function-before-fashion approach. However, the cabin is dressed up with snazzy materials, such as leather and microsuede. There's also less visible carbon fiber than is typical on other McLaren models. Still, the company is known for its minimalist cabin designs that limit the presence of physical switchgear and steering wheels that are free of buttons—and the Artura is no exception. It comes standard with power-adjustable seats, and looks to have excellent outward visibility to help drivers place the car precisely on the road or the racetrack. While it's not as capacious as the McLaren GT, the Artura boasts 6 cubic feet of luggage space in the front trunk.
Infotainment and Connectivity
Although the infotainment system in a McLaren is typically an afterthought for shoppers, the Artura boasts a prominent 8.0-inch vertically-oriented touchscreen with customary features. This includes Bluetooth connectivity, standard Apple CarPlay, built-in navigation, SiriusXM satellite radio; wireless charging is an option for 2025. Those who want to keep their car as light as possible will prefer the standard five-speaker setup while others might want to upgrade to the available Bowers & Wilkins 12-speaker surround sound audio system, which comes as part of the Technology Pack; the new Spider gets an additional speaker to optimize sound reproduction for open-roof motoring.
Safety and Driver-Assistance Features
Despite its supercar status, the 2025 Artura is actually available with several driver-assistance technologies—a rarity in this segment. However, its limited production and exotic nature mean it won't be crash-tested by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) or the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS). Key safety features include:
- Standard lane departure warning
- Standard road-sign recognition
- Available Blindspot Monitoring and Cross-Traffic Detection
