Karima Brown’s son vows to ‘live with conviction you bestowed onto me’

"She was my best friend, confidant, advisor, housemate. She's been my everything my whole life," Mikhail, son of veteran journalist and political analyst Karima Brown, said on Saturday.
Mikhail gave the final speech at his mother's memorial service at Sacred Heart College in Johannesburg.
Brown passed away from Covid-19-related complications last week.
The veteran journalist was described as ferocious, a fighter for truth and someone with an exceptional work ethic.
Various ministers also paid their last respects to Brown. t
Mikhail said although his mother sent him to good schools, she taught him the most valuable lessons in life.
"She gave me an education. She vehemently believed in education and although she sent me to a great school, I think the greatest source of knowledge, information and perspective came from conversation and debates from within our own home.
"With my mother," he said.
He said Brown taught him the power of integrity and doing the right thing.

Mikhail thanked his mother for teaching him "the real lessons in life".
"I will miss just hanging out with you. I will miss chatting to her, laughing with her and at her.
"Her laugh as the cutest most infectious thing. The act that I will never hear that naughty cackle again really breaks me inside.
"I am so grateful. I could not have asked for a better mom. I promise to live life with the conviction you bestowed onto me.”
Brown’s brother Zane said his sister was principled and committed to doing the right thing.
"Although it was not always easy, we have been privileged to share our sister with the whole world.
"It was an honour for us to share our sister with so many people.”
