I'm using this spreadsheet to size how large a system to install. I want to figure out how much electricity I can use before a particular configuration should be upsized. Ideally,
2
I want to keep usage in the lower 3 tiers.

How to use the spreadsheet
5
estimate solar generation per month:
6
- pinpoint your location here http://mapserve3.nrel.gov/NREL_FlexViewer/index.html
7
- click the cube in the upper right, select locate, enter address
8
- click the cube again and select PVWatts tool, then click the approximate location of your house, creating a sun icon (you can drag it around to reposition)
9
- click on the PVWatts Tool overlay near the right top, another overlay will appear near your house
10
- click on send to PVWatts which takes you to the calculator
11
- fill in information about your array and location, click submit
12
- now copy the monthly solar production (AC energy column) to the correct column in the spreadsheet (the dark green text in the solar column)
13
14
next, fill in the red colored text under the rate season column (s=summer, w=winter)
15
fill in the red text in the top right of the spreadsheet specifying the maximum overall usage to get into that tier and the cost per tier for the rate seasons
16
finally, enter your monthly usage (typical usage/month), also in the upper right
17
everything else will be calculated for you
18
19
the spreadsheet has space for 3 different scenarios based on 3 different array sizes. you'll need to estimate solar generation for each scenario.
20
the last table is the data without solar
