Hers to Tame

Rate this book
Maggie Emerson has known Colin Rhett since meeting him in her friend’s swimming pool her freshman year of college. Everyone knows the playboy with the movie star looks. They also know he goes through women with barely a second thought. So what does she do when he appeals to the literature teacher in her? She gives him a book, of course. What about when he doesn’t stop at one? Maybe the Colin everyone thinks they know is really much deeper than anybody gives him credit for. If she looks, really looks at him, will she find the man of her dreams or that same playboy she thought he always was?

Colin is a successful attorney with a different woman every week, but what he really wants is the one woman he can’t have. All he has wanted since that fateful day in the swimming pool six years ago is to be her hero, but there was always a reason holding him back. Will this finally be his chance to prove to her that he can be the man she needs? If he has to read every damn book in the bookstore, he’s going to fight this time for that right.

Universal

When her friend's older brother, Colin, suddenly seems to show an interest in her, Maggie's understandably hesitant to give in. After all, they've known each other for years now and he's never looked at her beyond being his sister's friend. A friend he barely noticed all this time. Or so she always thought. Now that she's older, though, the alpha in Colin is ready to finally act on his feelings. The question is, will she believe he's changed from the manwhore she's always thought of him as? Changed to a man who deserves an amazing woman like she?

I love it when the player is brought to his knees by the love, how he fights it, how he doesn't know what to do with it. Colin was most definitely flailing around, getting himself into trouble with his typically clueless male behavior, but I could feel how much he cared about Maggie. The two of them were adorable together - her schooling him in the art of literature reading, the way they just seemed to fit together seamlessly. I've been really liking this series, Hers to Tame just made it all the better.

With such a title and such a summary, I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed in the end. Sure, Colin changes a lot to win Maggie’s affection, but it was clearly NOT the taming I was expecting.

But I enjoyed the story. There were scenes that seemed unnecessary and too much, but all in all, the relationship between Colin and Maggie was fun to watch growing. I’m still not convinced that it wasn’t just lust at the beginning–in the various memories of their time together, they didn’t seem to interact that much, and I’m wondering why the vibe changed when it did. Yet, the witty banter between them, the conversations about literature, Colin’s slow seducing, and the obvious attraction between them, made me root for them.

It is kind of a slow burn, but that doesn’t mean that there’s no fire here–the shower scene, anyone? Of desire there is plenty. To the point that they become almost indecent, and I didn’t especially liked their lack of inhibition and restraint. I felt it was disrespectful.

It starts weirdly, continues with cringy moments, and it feels like it never ends, but it was still a nice relationship to read about, and there’s a handful of unforgettable scenes. Don’t deny yourself a good time.

Quickie

- Series: Sideswiped #3 (can be read as a standalone)
- Hashtags: #best friend’s brother #age gap #long pining
- Triggers: mild violence and abuse
- Main couple: Maggie Emerson & Colin Rhett
- Hotness: 4/5
- Romance: 4/5
- + I loved the slow seduction
- – some scenes/elements seemed over the top and a bit too much

From the first books, I have to admit I didn't think Colin would be a favorite. And Maggie is more of a side character, so I didn't know a ton about her. But, I think this book is my favorite in the series, though it may tie with Alex and Claire.

Colin was way sweeter and a much nicer guy than he's seems like earlier in the series. I loved that he had a very soft spot for Maggie and that he regretted not going after her sooner. I think that he's still kind of a hothead and that he tends to solve everything with fists, but he's still a good guy. Maggie was not superficial at all and I loved that they shared a love of many things, including comics, that they weren't aware of before they really started hanging out. And I like that it was her telling her calling him out with how she saw him that really gets his attention. I also really liked that they were equal participants in this relationship.

Samson does a great job with dialogue. The conversations between Colin and Maggie seemed very real and fun and Colin was hilarious with the stuff that comes out of his mouth. Alex and Claire have a hard time topping this one. Maybe I'll call it a tie.

Though this is the third installment in the Sideswiped series that shouldn't stop readers who haven't read this series before from picking this one up. Delightful dialogue, steamy interactions, and a connection teeming with sexual tension fuels this story and kept me fully engaged from the first page to the last. By the turn of the final page I was ready to dive into more books by Ms. Samson, ready to be charmed even more by her crackling banter and sweet and sexy exchanges.

At the start of this story Colin Rhett doesn't make a good first impression as I found him to be an arrogant manwhore early on, a lawyer who's a bit quick to anger. I couldn't picture a man like him paired up with the kind and likable Maggie, but once he committed to making her his he went above and beyond to win her over in a journey of text messages, heartfelt talks, and other endearing actions that put a smile on my face. Throughout their time together Colin slowly won me over too. He'd been attracted to Maggie for years, but with her being younger he held off in claiming her. Once he sees her again though, after years apart, he commits to claiming her in an endearing journey of second chances that made for a charming romance. It's a charming connection that brought out his protective side, brought out a flirty and playful nature that just felt right.

Maggie Emerson is best friend to Lily which means seeing Lily's brother (the sexy playboy Colin) from time to time. From the moment she first laid eyes on Colin, Maggie has always been attracted to him, even though she knew he was not the commitment type and lived far away from her which made commitment even more difficult. She can at least admire him from afar though and does so from the moment he decides to woo her in a journey of text messages and literary flirtations. Theirs is a romance full of sexual tension with their interactions growing ever steamier amidst their verbal foreplay. Through it all Maggie was an immensely appealing heroine, a straightforward young woman who brought out the best in Colin in a journey that warmed my heart.

This was a quick read, one with witty banter and sweet and sexy interactions. It featured two apparent opposites who made an entertaining and endearing match in a romance that was decadently delightful and that still has me smiling long after the final page was turned.

This is my first time reading this author and this series. It appears to be book 3 in the series and as I am new reader I have not read the others in the series. Their were many couples mentioned and I did not know who they were or back story. But it was not an issue for me as they were featured only as supporting characters in this story.

Colin has a sister named Lily and her best friend or one of them is Maggie. Colin is older and a manwhore and a lawyer. Maggie is 22 and a new English Lit teacher in a private school. They run into each other at at a party and thats when Colin realizes how much he likes Maggie. But Maggie is not willing to take a risk on him and even if she was they don't even live in the same city.

And so Colin decides he wants more and so he uses texting and books to try and get Maggie to give him a chance. I loved their text messages and conversations and Colin won me over as he did Maggie. This was very much a story where the manwhore chases the good girl he has always wanted.

It was a fast read and I enjoyed reading it. At first I did not like Colin but as the story progresses he grows on me as he grows on Maggie. I liked how spirited Maggie is as she tries to resist him and I loved how in Colin is and his adorable text messages with Maggie.

"Well I am a little bit disappointed in myself that this is the first ever book I have read from Avery Samson. Simply put it was outstanding. I know I now have to go back and read the previous books in this series, and even though the past characters feature heavily in this book I can guarantee that this story reads as a stand-alone.
What made this book so special to me is a storyline that I cannot get enough of - an absolute player who becomes the man he was meant to be once he finds his queen. In Colin’s case he met his person seven years ago. He knew Maggie was too young so he had to bide his time. I loved, loved, loved when these two finally got together and the story, if at all possible, only got better from there. It goes without saying I will definitely be reading more from this author in the future. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book." ~Sharon

This is the first from this author and I enjoyed it thoroughly. It was well written and had a storyline I really enjoyed. I did expect a little more from the title but I guess in a way Maggie did turn the bad boy. Colin just kept biding his time, not telling everyone what he was really feeling or thinking but when the time came...He jumped all in.
Enjoyable to the very end! ~Jen

My absolute favorite part of this book is Colin yelling at himself for making a mess. That part completely sold me on Colin and Maggie. Don't get me wrong, I loved them already prior to this scene. However that scene right there made them feel real and I love a book that makes its characters feel like real people I could sit down with.

This author was new to me and I went into the book blind. I truthfully enjoyed it and if it hadn't been for life interrupting I would have devoured it in one sitting. Maggie and Colin were fun! They had witt and enough banter to keep me going for days. Colin was a bit of a caveman when it came to Maggie and he blew a lot of smoke. But it came from a good place. Who wouldn't want a white knight rescuing them every now and then. I loved how Maggie tamed this wild crazy man. She has become a new favorite!

If your looking for a new author take a chance on this book. You never know, you may enjoy it as much as I did.

*I voluntarily read an advanced copy of this book for my honest and unbiased review.

Colin has loved Maggie from afar from the moment he saw her five years ago. Losing himself in a string of women hasn't eased the ache, and it's getting harder and harder to stifle the voice in his head that's encouraging him to seriously pursue her. But Maggie's not like the other women he's had, and though it's not easy, he's finding that being the man she deserves is better than anything.

Maggie's not sure that Colin's seemingly sudden interest is genuine. She tries to turn him off at every turn, but soon realises that Colin has quickly become the best part of her day. But between her shaky ability to trust and her past reappearing with no warning, their not-quite-a-relationship relationship may be over before it even starts.

This was a good read with a bit of a slow burn, with a good dose of humor and great female friendships. The pacing was perfect for the storyline, and I did enjoy it. I recommend it, too.

Unknown to Maggie Emerson for the longest time was that Colin Rhett was not only besotted by her, but was in love as well. She couldn’t fathom the perpetual playboy not only being attracted to her like she was him, but that he genuinely cared for her. Colin protects those he loves and Maggie brings the caveman out in him in spades. They live in two different cities, but eventually they get to be together for the rest of their lives. Maggie brings out the best in Colin and he gives her everything she wants and then some. While they have a age gap which isn't all that much, they teach each other that there is more to life then what they were used to. Maggie is also best friends with Colin's sister Lily. They are known as the crazy Rhett's, but they mean well.

This was my first time reading this author and I got to say it was a great way to spent a snowy day.
Maggie and Colin have a history together which have prevented them to act on their attraction. But now Maggie is finally available and Colin sees the opportunity to finally make her his.

This story was full of funny banter, sexy and steamy time but also all the swoon-type of moments that will leave you with the cheesiest smile on your face. I'm not sure what I expected when I picked up this book but I did not expect it to be such a feel good book.

I'm definitely coming back to this author because if this is indication of her writing is A MUST.

Colin and Maggie have had me curious about their relationship since the first book in this series. In the previous books I was was having a hard time seeing the debonair playboy attorney in a serious relationship with the high school literature teacher.

Well, Avery not only matched these to up in one swoony, romantic and super sizzling story she brought emotional depth to Colin and made him out to be one amazing male character. I loved how Maggie came alive with Colin and he just seemed to get happier the more he could be with her and focus on her openly.

I’m looking forward to Claire’s book and learning how she meets her sexy Scot Alex!

I received ARC from the author and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is the 3rd book in this amazing series and is Colin and Maggie’s story. Maggie is one of Colin’s sister’s best friends and they first meet at a pool party in freshman year at college. Colin is now a playboy, womanizing attorney, while Maggie is an English literature teacher at a private school, and there has always been an attraction between them which Colin now wants to prove to Maggie that he is the man for her. This is a well written story which is fast paced, humorous, steamy, and with witty banter which all leads to an entertaining and all-consuming page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend for all.

Hers to Tame is my favorite book in the Sideswiped series! I loved it! Colin has wanted Maggie since he saw her at a party, but she’s his sisters friend and she’s aware of his playboy reputation. He is going to do everything he can to prove he’s changed. I love how they connect through books. Their wit and banter is very entertaining. I was rooting for their relationship to work. It was fun to watch Maggie tame Colin. They were great for each other. I’ve loved the Sideswiped series! Hers to Tame is a fantastic book! Read it and I’m sure you’ll love it too!

Ms. Samson is a new author for me! My interest is definitely piqued!

Colin and Maggie's story is a typical plot, but one I never get tired of. It's how the author takes us from beginning to end. Making us change our minds about the characters!

Maggie's young, but not so young to question her friend's playboy brother's intentions are honorable! Well, maybe not so honorable all the time, YEAH!!!!

One-sitting read that I really enjoyed, and I'm definitely checking out more by this author!

This was an interesting story with all the book references and the witty banter. I liked Maggie's sense of humor and was glad when she came to her senses. Colin needed to clean up his act, but he went all out to win Maggie's heart and prove himself to her. There were some moments of tears, plenty of giggles and laughs, and a lot of sighing. I enjoyed this book, and I recommend it.

I received a copy of this story through Elle Wood Promotions, and this is my unsolicited review.

A sensuous tale of deep emotion. Samson sets out to tempt the senses and ends up reawakening the heart. Maggie and Colin are powerful combination. Hidden in the fine print is a romance full of misconceptions and heartache. Hers to Tame is a lesson in life, love and second chances.

This is my first Avery Samson novel that I have read. I liked it but it didn’t live up to what I was expecting.

Not a huge fan of Colin’s, but I really liked Maggie. I did enjoy the progression of their relationship once Colin decided that Maggie was the one for him. Samson made the dialogue between them very relatable which I enjoyed. It was a good story, but wordy.

I am not sure if I would have felt differently if I had read the first two books. Still a good book and I recommend.

This book is fun, entertaining and HOT! The witty banter and humor was great as Colin and Maggie got to know each other better. I did feel like the book kind of dragged on at the end a little bit but I am happy that Colin and Maggie got their HEA. I enjoyed reading this book and look forward to the next book in the series.
