Wilder Irish #13

Wild Chance

Rate this book
Can he make this moment last a lifetime?

It’s been three years since Padraig lost his wife and since then, he’s been sleepwalking his way through each day, focusing only on work and family, while hanging out with his best friend, Emmy.

The sum equivalent of Emmy’s experience with relationships is contained within the pages of the romance novels she writes while sitting at the end of the bar at Pat’s Pub. That is if she doesn’t count the secret crush she’s been harboring for Padraig since the first day she laid eyes on him.

When Padraig realizes he’s in love with Emmy, they fall into each other’s arms. However, adversity strikes and Padraig–terrified of loving and losing again–pushes Emmy away. It will take the combined romantic efforts of the entire Collins’ family to help him win the heart of his best friend…and his second chance at happily ever after.

I knew I would shed a tear or two with the Wilder Irish series ending and with this being Padraig’s story. I didn’t think I would cry like a baby.

First, thank you Mari Carr for allowing us the pleasure to be part of the Collins Clan. For letting us into their lives, feeling their fears, heartbreak and happiness. Thank you for giving us a family that knew how to love long and hard and a Pop Pop that stole everyone’s heart from Come Monday straight through Wild Chance … he was wise, caring and so in love with his Sunday, his children, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Thank you for giving us Pat’s Pub … a place where love and laughter abound. And, especially, thank you for the Collins Curse … we wouldn’t have had so many hours of enjoyable reading without it.

Padraig and Emmy. You knew, in the deepest recesses of your heart, that they were perfect for each other. Now, it’s time to convince Padraig that it’s okay to move on, to love again. Who better than Pop Pop to give him peace in his heart and mind to see what’s been sitting in front of him for this whole time. A woman who knows him, knows how strong and hard he loves, knows a part of his heart will always be with Mia but doesn’t know that he’s ready to move on … try to love again.

Emmy has been patient, kind and always there for Padraig. It’s time for her to start moving forward with her life since the man she loves is stuck in the past. She knows nothing of what happened in Ireland, of the soul searching he did. Until she walks into the Pub with the one man that put him right over the edge and finally got him to stake his claim. Padraig and Emmy’s love story was everything that I expected it to be. A little bit of drama and a whole lot of love. You knew there would have been something to freak Padraig out and you knew that he would finally succumb to the Collins Curse for the 2nd time. It was sad, it was happy … it was absolutely beautiful.

I’m sad saying good-bye. I’m sad that we won’t be reading Pop Pop’s words of wisdom. But, I am happy that I got to know each and every one of the Collins Clan. That I got to be a apart of the Collins Dorm. That I didn’t cry for the reason that I hoped and prayed it wouldn’t be. I look forward to the Moretti family and possibly getting caught up with the Collins every now and then. But, until then, I will treasure the time I spent with the Collins Clan and Pop Pop.

Get out the tissues, because you will cry sad tears, happy tears, excited tears, and once those emotions kick in, even silly things will make you cry (like wing etiquette!). This book was packed with emotions, as any series that has gone on this long would be, and it comes to an end. But it also has a second chance at love for a character when we knew all about his first love. This doesn’t distract from that in any way at all, it actually incorporates and builds on it. Padraig is the new Pop pop, in case there was ever any doubt, in so many ways, and in such amazing fashions. The love story that grows between Emmy and Padraig was years in the making, and we get to see the moments that made it happen. We get to be with them as they move from friends to lovers. We get to see how their pasts influence their present and how well everything will mesh. We get to see the whole family come together, and moments of our original Wild Irish siblings gathered, even though Killian and Sean simply showed up for the donuts! We get to see all of the second generation with their loves and lives they are living, working hard on making sure there will Collins for generations to come. We get to see Padraig have two great loves, and fulfil the wishes, dreams, and moments they both so dearly wanted for him. We close with Pop pop, doing what he does best, loving his family the way he knows best <3

I am sad. Yes, I am seriously sad after finishing this book by the talented Mari Carr. Why? Because she has dared to end this wonderful series. Plus she is a bit mean with things like this.

Sadly, this is the ending to a wonderful series that has for the most part taken place in Baltimore, Maryland. (I think Mari needs to open up a pub like the Collins clan has here in Maryland but not in Baltimore but a smaller town.)

The Collins clan has been through quite a bit. Padraig aka Paddy has shut his heart off from loving after the tragic death of his wife. He is living but just going through the motions of living. His family is concerned about him but he isn't willing to allow anyone in to help or care for him.

Emmy is a successful romance writer at a fairly young age. But she started writing to keep her head above water while dealing with a pretty bad homelife growing up. She was able to support herself on her writing after graduating from high school but it has been a struggle at times. Although Emmy writes about wonderful relationships, she personally has yet to have one. She hides that her parents are dead and that her only sibling is an prison. She also hides that she is in love with Padraig.

Emmy found the pub owned by the Collins family near her apartment and became a fixture there on the bar side. She writes her novels on her laptop and has become a part of the larger family. She has also fallen in love with Paddy. But she keeps this a secret because she is aware of Paddy and that he has shut himself off from living. Friendship is what Emmy and Paddy fall into and when things change and Emmy is no longer a part of his daily life, Paddy realizes things have to change.

This starts Paddy's path back to the land of the living. Although being a novel by Ms. Carr, this path is filled with struggles, backsteps, and bumps but Emmy is there to help him along the way. (But Paddy does make it back to the land of living fully.) Both Emmy and Paddy both have pasts that influence how they react and make decisions. In other words, they are human. They struggle with things. But immersing yourself into this wonderful novel is worth it. It is a great escape but it also makes you stop and think about the choices you yourself make each and every day.

But I am still upset that Ms. Carr dared to end this series, although she has a new one starting over the winter where I am sure we will see many of the characters and personalities from this series popping into and influencing how those plots twist and turn.

I did receive a copy of this novel in advance from the author in exchange for a fair and unbiased review. (To be honest, I think I own all of her novels and preorder as soon as I see a new one pop up no matter how long until the publication date.

I have been both anticipating and dreading this book, since I found out that Paddy was going to get a second chance at his HEA. Talk about mixed feelings! I was happy that Paddy was finally going to get his HEA, but Wild Devotion ripped my heart into tiny pieces. I just wasn't sure I could handle that again. I worried about how the author would handle the touchy situation of a much loved, recently deceased spouse. I worried if Paddy would ever be able to open himself up to the possibility of love again. However, she handled this story beautifully, gluing all of those little tiny pieces back together again!

Paddy had his chance at love. It was wonderful, amazing, beautiful, and perfect. It was also fleeting, and over way too soon. Now he is left with memories, of a bittersweet time. Paddy had love, and doesn't think he will ever be open to that again.

Emmy has had her share of heartache, spent more than her fair share of time alone. But a chance walk into a family pub led her to a second family, that would fill a hole in her heart. She has watched Paddy, over the years, deal with his pain. But what happens when you have feelings that the other person doesn't feel in return?

This book is emotional. There were a few tears, but mostly it was hope that I felt while reading it.
Hope for second chances. Hope that love will conquer everything. While this book is it's own story, it is also a continuation of Wild Devotion. Paddy loved, and lost, and then watched the rest of his family find their HEAs, while dispensing his own quiet advice when it was needed. Wild Chance is his ultimate chance for happiness and the future that he deserves. This book was everything I could have imagined for Paddy and Emmy, and so much more! A perfect finish for the Collins Clan!

5 Emotional Stars! - Book thirteen in the Wilder Irish series, this series is a spin-off of the Wild Irish series. Can be read and enjoyed as stand-alone. This big awesome family owns and operates a pub, so the secondary characters are throughout the series. I love how the Collins clan is so loving and supportive of each other. This is not Padraig’s first book, and I was so looking forward to his second chance at a HEA. Emmy who has also suffered her share of loss was the perfect friend for him to move forward with. Their story is sweet & emotional, and just perfectly told. I loved it and stayed up too late because I couldn’t put it down. I am sad to see this series of Collins come to an end!!!

Oh wow!

If this series has to end the this is the BEST way to end a series! Love this family and Mrs. Carr makes you become a part of their world with her story telling. These two have overcome so much and end up in the best life possible! I am in awe of this story and want to read it over and over again! I can wait to see what Mrs. Carr writes next. She has made a FAN out of me! I have literally read everything I can find that she has written and this is my favorite series!

Dear Mari,
On May 2, 2011, a little over 10 years ago, my life was changed forever. That was the day I downloaded Come Monday and the very next day, I downloaded the rest of the Wild Irish series. From that day on, I was forever a member of the Mar Carr fan club and an honorary member of the Collins Family. I have re-read the original series more times than I can count and I was thrilled when you began the Wilder Irish series. I have lived, loved, laughed, and cried through this series, commiserated with other readers, and fell in love all over again as we watched the next generation find the loves of their lives. I’ve always loved your writing, before the Wild Irish series I had read the Black & White series. Then Wild Devotion (formerly March Wind) released and as I cried my way through that book it dawned on me that your writing in that story was elevated to a higher level. I still maintain to this day that is your best book ever. But more than that it was discovering the selflessness in Padraig (Paddy) Collins as he helped Mia, a woman he only knew casually, make and knock things off her bucket list when she finds she has an inoperable brain tumor and in the process finds a love he never expected. I loved that the spirit of the Collins family was shown as they all rallied around Paddy and Mia. In that book we really began to see how much Paddy was like our beloved Pop-Pop which also made us worry that at some point he wouldn’t be with us anymore which led us to tell you, Mari, we couldn’t live in a world without Pop-Pop and I know you heard us and I thank you for that. On to Wild Chance, I know many of your readers felt that at some point Emmy would be Paddy’s next love and man you made us wait, but it was so worth it. I’ll also admit I kind of wanted to slap Paddy upside the head a couple of times, but I could also understand his reservations. I admired Emmy for putting herself out there with Paddy, for accepting his answer, and for making the decision to move on; it showed how much Emmy had changed since she first appeared at Pat’s Pub. Speaking of Pat’s Pub, I was devastated when the pub burned down, like ugly cried, because I truly believe that pub is somewhere in the world, real, as are the Collin’s family and I’m fine believing that and you should be proud that you’ve made me feel like that world truly exists. I enjoyed seeing Paddy and Emmy discover each other as lovers, realizing how much they understood and needed one another and fall in love. It wasn’t smooth sailing the whole time because it wouldn’t be a Collins’ family book if it was too easy, but it was perfect and beautiful, and most of all a wonderful ending to what has been an amazing series. Thank you Mari for giving us this family, Pat’s Pub, and this incredible world that you created, I think I speak for many of your readers you’ve given us more than you can ever imagine.
Love,
Sharon

If there is a way to end a series on a level that is beyond perfection Mari Carr has found it. I have read and loved every story of the Collins family and like so many others, Padraig holds an endearing spot in my heart. As much as no one wanted this series to end, Mz Carr has done it with such skill that she has left us (and all the Collins’s) not sad or unfulfilled but she has given us an ending that has left us basking in bright sunlight. Of course I’m sad the series has ended but re-reads are how we get to have do-overs. Having the sense of completion along with satisfaction that you can walk away from these stories with a smile even when you’ve done the whole ugly-cry-sobbing-blubbering mess is what an incredibly talented author can do for you — that is what Mari Carr has done for us.

I just finished Wild Chance and my emotions are still running high, the pile of tissues next to me is a testament to that, but Paddy’s HEA was worth us waiting for because Mari Carr absolutely saved the best for last. Pop Pop is firmly planted inside Padraig’s soul and I am sure each of us carry a bit of the Wild Irish with us now making us all all the better for for it. Thank you for giving us these bits of yourself and your real-life inspirations.

What a way to end a series!!!!

I have loved the Collins family since the first books, and have devoured each book. Padraig's story with Mia was one of my favorites, even though it broke my heart. Every story after gave little updates on Paddy's heartbreak, on how he was coping, or not coping with the loss of Mia. Then Emmy showed up, and the anticipation began.

I would highly recommend reading Wild Encounter first, which is the story of the day that Paddy and Emmy met. It is a quick read, and made me extra excited to read Wild Chance.

The primary storyline is Paddy moving on and finding love again, but there were so many other storylines in this book. All the family makes appearances in the book, which I loved. And in true Collins fashion they created some very fun laughs. My favorite part was the entire family trying to find out Emmy's pen name and then when the family found out, how they began reading all Emmy's books.

This is an amazing series, that I know I will read again and again. Mari Carr is an amazing author, and I cannot wait for the spin offs of this series with the Moretti brothers!

Although sad that this is the last book of the series, it was a perfect ending. A best friend to lovers and second chance at love romance read, Padraig’s got a chance with Emmy but he was fighting it to the end. I loved how their romance blossom from friendship to a love worth fighting for. It was enduring to see Emmy’s presence in Padraig’s life from the first time they met and how it blossom to so much more. There was tears of pain, heartbreak and love that will have you flipping the pages until the end. The storyline was bittersweet and heartfelt, but so worth the wait and a definite must one click.

Finally Paddy & Emmy HEA!!!

After Wild Devotion (aka March Wind), Padraig need his final HEA.

This picks up where Wild Dreams left off with Tris, Pop Pop & Paddy and eventually Colm on their Irish trip while Pat's Pub is being rebuilt. It was great to read Paddy realize what's right in front of him.

Can't wait for the Moretti Brothers in 2022!!

Rocks

This was one of the best second chance stories I have read. Ever since Paddy lost Mia and met Emmy I anticipated their book. What I most enjoyed about this book was the way the author handles recovering from loss and moving forward. Glad Pop Pop is still around.

A great second chance love story

We finally get to see Padraig Collins get his second chance at love and you’ll need to have tissues ready as this beautifully written story will give you all the feels. I devoured this book all in one sitting, my heart so full of love for Padraig, Emmy and the entire Collins family especially Pop Pop. I have loved the Wild Irish series since the beginning and I couldn’t think of a better way to end this series by coming full circle.

This is the final book in this series and I am so sad to see it end. I have not read every book but the ones I have read are ones that I loved and will keep re-reading over and over. One of the books I did NOT read was the one where Padraig met Mia and married her. I just felt it was too sad a book and couldn't deal with that. So this book is really the first book I have read that Padraig starred in.

Padraig is a 31 year old hot, widower. He met the love of his life, Mia four years before and fell in love instantly and they had one happy year together before she died. This story is 3 years after her death and Padraig is still mourning her when this book starts.

Three years before this book starts, Padraig met Emmy at the bar he works at and he and his family brought her into the fold. She is his best friend and they met when her parents died so they both have understood each others pain. But now Emmy wants more and she asks him if he is interested, when he turns her down, she decides to start dating and meet someone who can give her a family and love.

I absolutely LOVED Emmy. She is all alone in the world and she becomes this awesome romance writer who has a huge success professionally but personally her personal life is not going anywhere and she decides to get one. She asks Patraig and when he turns her down she moves on. Even when Padraig leaves her at a pivotal time she doesn't wallow, she is a mature and strong woman and I adored how she takes life and faces all her fears and moves on.

Padraig was a harder character for me to like and love. He is definitely hot when he finally confesses to his feelings for Emmy and he is definitely very alpha and possessive which I also loved. But he has also built a shrine to Mia and he is so afraid to fall in love and truly move on. To some degree I felt he missed the real message of Mia and that is that life is worth living every second and you hold on and love it without regrets and fear. The lesson he took from Mia is that life and love is precious but also to fear letting someone truly into his heart and he learned to run from love because something can happen to them. And I was angry at the younger him and Mia because that one year really ruined him and did irrepairable damage to him. He really needed some counseling and no one ever mentioned that might be a good idea.

The book ends on a wonderful note. I loved getting a glance of the future and the children that the Collins family has in their future, I hated seeing this series end and I cried many tears for Padraig and Mia in this story. It was a really heartfelt story and I love the Collins family. But the real star in this story was Emmy. I adored her so much.

I received a complimentary early release copy of this e-book from the author prior to release and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Wild Chance is the last book in the Wilder Irish series by Mari Carr. Both this series and the original, Wild Irish, have been sole of my favorites for a while. I adore the Collins family and all of the different relationships they have with each other. That being said, Paddy has been a favorite character of mine since his first book, Wild Devotion. I've loved Emmy since she first showed up as well. Normally, I would say any of these books could be read as a stand-alone, however, to really grasp the beauty of this one, you have to know Paddy’s history. Then there's also little scenes leading up to this book between both Paddy and Emmy in previous books that just add that little bit of extra if you've read them before jumping into this one.

I was a bit hesitant about what Paddy’s second chance would look like since reading Wild Devotion. Not many authors can successfully pull off what Mari Carr has here, she's given us the story of two loves, and both are beautifully written.

The Collins family is a near and dear one to me. They are ones I would read forever and love to see more of but if this is the last one forever, then it was the best ending possible. I received this book in exchange for an honest review.

This was absolutely the best book to end the wonderful Collins family’s stories with…if there is indeed a best way to say goodbye to them!
I avoided Padraig’s first book, Wild Devotion, because I didn’t think I could handle it. It wasn’t until I knew that he was going to get a second chance at a lifetime of love that I finally gave in. So I was extra emotional when I started this book.
Friends to lovers is my absolute favorite trope, so I was so very glad that Emma was a friend to Padraig long before they fell for each other…or finally admitted falling! And I’m also glad that she did not personally know Mia, Padraig’s late wife!
I can’t say enough great things about this pairing. But I want to mention another pairing that has been such a joy to watch throughout this series…and that’s Pop Pop and Paddy. I have loved their relationship since the cousins’ books were introduced. Having had such special relationships with my grandparents, I was as enthralled with Pat’s bonds with his grandkids as I was each couple themselves. Mari Carr did a marvelous job of letting Pat and Paddy…and the rest of the clan…be friends as well as grandpa and grandson.
So while we say goodbye (maybe just for now, not forever??!) to the Collins, I’m so glad the journey ended like it did in the pages of this book…full of love, hope and family!

An Era Comes To An End With The Perfect Couple!!

Padraig "Paddy" Collins lost the love of his life years ago and has pretty much closed himself off to everyone with the exception of his best friend Emmy and his family. As he watches everyone in his family meet and fall in love he has been happy that they found their one, or in some cases, two, but he still cannot let go of his pain and loss.

Emmy, remembering the stories that her parents told her about Pat's Pub, walked in and found a kindred sprit in Paddy, the man who would become her best friend. Emmy on that first day managed, without even trying, to do something the Collins Family did not think was possible, she got a genuine laugh from Paddy. Emmy didn't realize it but she fell in love, first with Pop Pop, but she also fell in love with Paddy too.

Emmy finally decided to ask Paddy out, he declined, so she decided it was time to move on. Right about that time Paddy's family, well Pop Pop, decided to give him a little nudge and Paddy realizes that Emmy is his and takes a chance on love. But when Emmy receives some not so great news, Paddy runs and hurts Emmy in the process. It will take the Collins family to help Paddy and Emmy get their happily ever after.

I loved this book and I loved both of the series with the Collins family; first the parents and then their children. All good thing must come to an end.

Paddy tends bar at the family's bar/restaurant. A few years ago, Mia, his wife, died. He has been a ghost of himself since. No smiles, until one day, Emmy walks in.

Emmy is a romance writer who just made the best sellers list. Both of her parents are dead and her brother is in prison so there is no one to celebrate with. She has also been in a rug with her writing She takes her laptop and goes out for a walk, happening upon the Collins' bar, which is also where her parents went on their first date. She takes a seat at the bar and conversation starts with her and Paddy, as well as Paddy's grandfather. She enjoys herself and the stories so much that she decides to keep coming back.

As Emmy and Paddy get to know one another, their friendship grows. But Paddy is afraid to love again. When tragedy strikes and Paddy doesn't have Emmy at the bar every day, he starts to think about his life. But can he overcome the pain of Mia's death and allow himself to love again?

If ever a book was worth the wait this was it. I knew This was going to be an emotional journey for me. After reading Padraig’s first love story I was an emotional wreck for a few days! I wanted his second love story to be incredible and of course Mari delivered. Padraig had a world-wind first love and lost her to cancer. Almost 3 years later he is still missing her like crazy. He has his big crazy family, they are rebuilding the bar after the devastating fire and he has his best friend Emmy. Emmy is a bestselling romance author and has a major crush on her best friend Padraig. She knows he is still mourning the death of his wife but she holds out hope that they can be more. This was so well written, we had the gut wrenching emotions of him missing Mia, we had his realization that he truly loved Emmy and his family’s reaction that he could be happy again. What a rollercoaster ride this was but ohhh so worth it! Don’t get me wrong it wasn’t all tears there were several laugh out loud moments also. Then to visit with this amazing family again. The drunk singing, the great advice they love to give and of course fighting over the last chicken wing. I seriously will miss them so much. When can we start on the next generation? As always I look Forward to seeing what Mari Carr bring to the table next. Because I’m never disappointed.

I waited until the last possible moment to read this book because once I did, the series would really end. And how could that happen to a family we’ve come to love and cherish!

Paddy has loved and lost, just coasting day in and day out, until Pop Pop gets him to see that he needs to move on and find love again. Maybe with someone who’s been right in front of him all this time. Emmy has secretly been in love with him but unable to do anything about it as it appears he still pines for his deceased wife.

Paddy’s HEA was at first something that came easy for him and Emmy, but then some news brings in all the turmoil his heart can’t handle. But Pop Pop comes to the rescue again and Paddy will have to do some groveling.

This is the last story in the series and what a way to end it. Mari Carr takes us on an emotional roller coaster. The Collins Clan is a family you wish you knew, wish you could attend one of their parties, count on them as friends that prank on you but also have your back.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced copy of this book.

As a huge fan of the Wild Irish/Wilder Irish series, I was both excited and upset to finally get to Wild Chance. Upset because this is the end of an amazing series, but so excited to get Paddy's story. Anyone who has read the series definitely cried over Paddy and Mia's love story. Ever since then, I couldn't wait for Paddy to find true love again. Mari Carr couldn't have done a better job with this final book in the series. Paddy and Emmy's story is funny, romantic, and HOT!!!! I loved how this book brought the entire Collins family together so we could see their happy endings. As sad as I am to see this series end, I am so excited to see that Mari Carr is continuing with the Morretti Brothers that have been in the most recent books (Layla's overprotective brothers from Philly). They will be featured in her next series and I'm keeping my fingers crossed that we see many of the Collins family show up in them. If you haven't read the entire Wild Irish/Wilder Irish series, you are missing out!!!

Wild Chance by Mari Carr is the long awaited and beautifully written close to the heartwarming and beloved Wilder Irish (and Wild Irish) series about the incredible Collins family.

Padraig Collins has loved and lost and determined he’s been there and gotten the t-shirt. He’s satisfied to be pulling drinks and staying behind the bar at his family’s pub. Emmy Martin wanders into Pat’s Pub one afternoon after she’s hit the NYTimes Best Sellers’ list, and after reflection, realizes it was meant to be that she celebrate that milestone where her late parents had met years ago.

Wild Chance is the story of two wounded spirits who find the courage and inspiration to reach for happiness, and the loving circle of friends and family who ensure they don’t screw that opportunity up entirely. Paddy and Emmy are meant to be, and it’s a sweet joy to catch glimpses of the entire Collins clan. Pop Pop forever!

I have been waiting for Padraig's story for what felt like forever. I loved how his and Emmy's story goes and how emotional it is. Paddy was not living until he decided to move on. Then that is when his best friend, Emmy, comes in who he now views differently. But they have their own issues to deal with so delving into a relationship is not an easy journey for these two.

So there are a lot of self-made obstacles by these two. I would have liked it more if Emmy made him work/grovel more once he changes his mind. And not just accept it immediately. After what he put her through, I think she deserves more than just apologies.

A most beautiful & fitting final book in our beloved Wild Irish series gives the journey of grief transcending into the 2nd chance at the love of a lifetime as Patrick helps them all along the way. Grab a cup, comfy chair and settle in for the laughter, tears, anger, sadness and chemistry but MOST OF ALL....LOVE❤❤❤❤❤.

Wild Chance is a beautiful, emotional book. I love this series, and Mari Carr did an awesome job giving Emmy and Padraig their happily ever after. I was captivated by this book from the beginning, and I could not put it down. Can Padraig move on from his loss to love again? Emmy is the person to try to make that happen. I treated up several times. The chemistry is explosive between these two. The story is rounded out by Pop pop and the wonderful Collins Clan. It was so good that I couldn’t pick up another book. This was a fabulous ending to the series.

I was so looking forward to Padraig and Emmy's story, it's been a long time coming, and Mari Carr does not disappoint with this story. I loved watching Padraig finally accept he could love someone else. Although I was thrilled for this story, I am very sad to see this series end.
