DALLAS – North Texas’ Abou Ousmane and LA Tech’s Jordan Crawford earned Conference USA Men’s Basketball weekly honors. The 2022-23 C-USA Players of the Week awards are presented by Blenders Eyewear and are voted on by the league’s sports information directors.
 
Ousmane scored a career-high 37 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the Mean Green (10-2, 1-0 C-USA) to their fifth-straight win – a 78-54 victory to open conference play at UTSA last Thursday. His 37-point performance is the most by a Conference USA forward/center since 2015 and the most points scored by a UNT forward/center since 1999.
 
Crawford registered his first career double-double last Wednesday with 13 points and 12 assists in the Bulldogs’ (7-5, 0-1 C-USA) 108-52 win over Jarvis Christian to conclude non-conference action. His 12 dimes are the most by a Conference USA player this season and the most assists by a Bulldog in a single game since 2017.
 
Player of the Week – Abou Ousmane, North Texas – Forward – Brooklyn, N.Y.
Ousmane shot 15-19 in the win over UTSA, marking a career high for the junior forward and the most field goals made by a C-USA student-athlete this season. He accounted for 23 of UNT’s 34 first-half points, scoring 20 on his own and assisting on a Tylor Perry three-pointer in the opening 20 minutes. Five of his 11 rebounds came on the offensive end and generated seven second-chance points.
 
Freshman of the Week – Jordan Crawford, LA Tech – Guard – Ruston, La.
Crawford finished 5-8 from the field with 13 points, which fell two shy of his season high, along with 12 assists, four rebounds and four steals. He was well on his way to his first career double-double with nine points and six assists in the first half, propelling LA Tech to a 59-27 advantage. Crawford’s four first-half steals helped generate six of the team’s 29 points off turnovers.
