Yes, Captain

Rate this book
A cruise ship captain with an unbreakable rule. A dancer who tempts him to toss the rulebook overboard…

Will Preston lives by one edict: don’t date staff.

But the new dancer onboard has the silver fox sailing into unchartered waters. Young, sexy, and with a penchant for lipstick and heels, the man pushes all Will’s buttons.

It’s not just the tropical sun that’s heating things up; their chemistry is sizzling.

Will’s been burned before. Can he throw caution to the wind and chart a new course with Eddie by his side? Or will an interfering crew-member steer them into stormy seas?

Yes, Captain is a stand-alone, steamy age-gap MM romance set on a cruise ship in the South Pacific, with a flirty dancer who loves pole dancing and his shy captain. Yes, Captain was previously published as Dance With Me. This re-release includes over 30,000 words of never-before-seen bonus content.

By day Ann Grech lives in the corporate world and can be found sitting behind a desk typing away at reports and papers or lecturing to a room full of students. She graduated with a PhD in 2016 and is now an over-qualified nerd. Glasses, briefcase, high heels and a pencil skirt, she’s got the librarian look nailed too. If only they knew! She swears like a sailor, so that’s got to be a hint. The other one was “the look” from her tattoo artist when she told him that she wanted her kids initials “B” and “J” tattooed on her foot. It took a second to register that it might be a bad idea.
She’s never entirely fit in and loves escaping into a book—whether it’s reading or writing one. But she’s found her tribe now and loves her MM book world family. She dislikes cooking, but loves eating, can’t figure out technology, but is addicted to it, and her guilty pleasure is Byron Bay Cookies. Oh and shoes. And lingerie. And maybe handbags too. Well, if we’re being honest, we’d probably have to add her library too given the state of her credit card every month (what can she say, she’s a bookworm at heart)!
She also publishes her raunchier short stories under her pen name, Olive Hiscock.

I like the cover, but the story didn't live up to my rather minimal expectations. The writing is clunky and rife with grammatical and stylistic issues.

There was no real plot or character development, and both MCs were so unprofessional, I was cringing.

Some steam, insta love, HFN.

I'm calling this one a miss.

This was an unspectacular but fun read. Your typical KU book, not something you would tell your friends about, but still okay.
First we are told that Will, one of our main characters is the captain of a cruiseship, and to avoid any problems he has a strict policy, to never date crew members. Then he meets Eddy, who comes on board joining the dance crew in the show lounge, and it seems the author forgot what she just told us, because literally hours later they start their romance - a little more hesitation and conflicting feelings would have been good for the story.
From then on, it's all love and fun and no drama (at all).
So, the whole story feels like it was endorsed and promoted by the cruise company of the "MS Dreamcatcher" erasing all conflicts before publication...
Short, fun but absolutely not memorable 3 stars from me!

I like the cover and the premise sounded interesting.
Unfortunately, the book (novelette) was way too short. This is another short story that would probably work better as a full length novel. It read like a rough draft with some good points but not enough substance.

1. I really need to go on another cruise
2. I need to find me a captain that is a sexy older man
3. I need a sexy dancer
4. I need to be allowed to watch them play.

This story is vivid and beautiful in all its descriptions. Not just in the characters but in the places they go and the ship their on. This is a beautiful story from start to finish and I will be reading it time and time again.

I’ve read this author before. This is a mm contemporary short story about Will the cruise ship captain and the new cruise ship dancer Eddie. Set on the high seas around Australia and the pacific. A sweet romancethat is not rushed.

A Heart melting love story

"There's nothing wrong with being attracted to boys, or girls, or both. God made you exactly the way you were meant to be ... "

YES, CAPTAIN
is a rework of Ann Grech's previously published short story Dance with Me. Having read the story of Will and Eddie, I was really looking forward to the changes/enhancements that Ms. Grech had made to their previous story. She did not disappoint. YES, CAPTAIN is the story of two men hurt in love yet willing to give it another try. It is the chemistry, the heat, the evolution of their friendship that makes their story exceptional, one that captured all my emotions. I found myself laughing and crying, cheering on these two men through every step of their journey.

"He was in trouble. Big, big trouble ... the man in front of him ticked every. Single. Box.

Eddie Taylor comes from a loving family, yet he endured a miserable childhood, constantly bullied and scorned for who he was. Yet, Eddie had a determination to succeed, succeed in his one love ... Eddie loved to dance. After working in the theatre, Eddie joins a cruise liner as a member of the entertainment crew. A decision that will forever change his life. Will Preston also came from a loving family, but after a disastrous and devastating relationship he throws all his energy and time into achieving his dream ... to be the Captain of a cruise liner. Will is a "silver fox", an openly gay man who ensures that he always follows his own rules. Rules that will be heavily tested when a broken shower leads him to an unexpected meeting.

"Will was spellbound, his feet fixed to the floor, frozen in a trance ... this man made him want to throw caution to the wind."

Ann Grech has written an absolutely beautiful story of two men who first find friendship and then love. Their chemistry and attraction is instant and undeniable, but it is the little things that they do for one another that show how much they truly care for each other. With every chapter my heart melted more and more for these men. Ms. Grech's development of their relationship was perfect, it wasn't rushed or forced, it just followed a natural progression. i adored both Eddie and Will, opposites destined for one another ... one flamboyant, outgoing, and loveable, the other shy, elegant and vulnerable.

YES, CAPTAIN is definitely one of my favourite MM books ever. Bravo Ann Grech.

So hot! Great characters, great setting. Eddie has so many things crammed inside of him! The performing, makeup, dresses, lingerie are all just part of who he is. And if I was going to sea, I’d want Will to be the captain.
Did I mention it was hot? It really is. The chemistry between these two is off the charts. They make a great couple both in and out of bed.
This story has a message of love and acceptance which we really need more of right now. Great job, Ann!

Decent read of believable characters who fall in love on a cruise ship. There is good chemistry between the leads and a lot of spiced-up scenes, it's a nice story, but it felt like there could be more going for it.

This was such a feel good story, it has restored my faith in love.
Also, there was so much sizzling chemistry flying around,
that it felt like the pages might catch fire.

The opening scene, where the two characters first meet had me thinking "OMG , wow"
That has to be one of the most lust filled, hottest opening chapters l have ever read.

The man in uniform is Will Preston, the Captain of the cruise liner MV Dreamcatcher.
He is a "silver fox" all strong and sexy , and is openly gay.
Eddie Taylor is a dancer, he joins the ship as part of the entertainment troupe.
He has a lust for more mature men, and when he meets the captain there are instant fireworks.

When a broken shower throws the two men together, and they fall in lust instantly,
someone needs to put the breaks on.
With a broken relationship behind him, and a wish for more with Eddie,
Will slows that train (or ship :D )
As Will made more and more romantic gestures, and sweet talked his man,
my heart just melted.

This was such a gorgeous short read, l loved it.
Not usually a fan of insta anything, the way the story developed,
and the deep feelings the characters had, made me very happy.
I look forward to more from this author,
Ann Grech knows how make my heart dance.

This cover is fantastic! Even better the story is sensational!

Will, the captain of the MV Dreamcatcher cruise ship, meets dancer Eddie on board and both immediately feel an instant attraction. This is their story.

I really enjoyed the fact that they didn't rush headlong into anything straight away but wanted to really get to know each other, this is far more realistic. That's not to say they weren't sexually hot, they were! But the depth of feeling meant so much more.

Eddie is such a fun, flamboyant character and totally loveable, you can't help but like him straight away. Will is the epitome of a cruise captain, class and elegance but he has a touch of vulnerability too. He also knows how to enjoy himself and let go which is good to see.

Dance With Me is a fast paced, easy to read relatively short story that will leave you feeling fantastic. I look forward to reading more in this series of books.

This book was perfect my Sunday afternoon read.

William is a captain of a cruise ship, his well respected and openly gay. Eddie is a new dancer on the cruise, he has a flamboyant side being a dancer, but just like everyone else he's looking for his special one.

I found their story an easy read, it has all the excitement of a new relationship, but at the same time a deeper feel to their connection. As hotness goes, this is steamy, made hotter by them trying to take there time, well a few dates lol.

I've never been on a cruise, scared of deep water but this has tempted me to consider trying a cruise, well maybe a short one just to people watch!

Silver Fox Cruise Liner Captain Will Preston who is openly gay and who never has had a hookup with any of his crew .... he then looks at Eddie Taylor ...
Dancer Eddie Taylor is an agile, graceful, loose-limbed, and extremely flexible, dancer especially on the pole where Will Preston got an eye full..
This book is extremely descriptive besides extra hot and steamy ... You visualize everything !
With Will being older than Eddie it makes no difference as Eddie prefers older men ....
They connect easily then can it work for them this love or is it just lust..
A great read... thanks Ann Grech for another wonderful book .

Sweet, very romantic...

I liked this - two confident, extremely attractive men from two slightly different generations, meet and find they're each other's dream come true. For Will, being older and hurt in a previous relationship meeting Eddie was literally dreamlike and a bit scary. Fortunately, Eddie's an old soul in his young, talented body, and quite well adjusted as the middle child out of five, and proves himself more than satisfactorily. Eddie and Will are beautiful together, and reading/watching their budding relationship, mutual respect, and finally falling in love is wonderful.

Dance with Me by Ann Grech will make you smile and giddy. A dancer on a cruice ship meets a the captain on the ship. One is flamboyant and the other likes to set boundaries. That doesn't mean that this can't work out. Both characters were great in their portrayal, but the story was truly a wonderful read. It wasn't a quick, dive into the sack romance. It had a build up that left me anxious to see how this would turn out. I absolutely loved it and give this story 4.5 stars. I highly suggest you pick it up and read it today!

This book has 3 of my favourite things...
Cruising, hot boys and a perfect love story!

Will and Eddie captured my heart right from the start and had the perfect story of getting to know one another, falling in love and finding their HEA!
It was sweet, pure and deliciously romantic and I loved every minute of it!
I would love to see a second story for them!
With Will’s grand gesture, Eddie told him he would need to do something big to top it.... Ann please let them top it ☺️😉😁😁

Dance With Me, was nothing I expected it to be. But that doesn't mean I was disappointed, on the contrary. I liked it, I thought it was an enjoyable and oh, so sweet read!

It was almost like I felt the chemistry between Will and Eddie! They where so adorable together. And they both where so insecure and afraid they would scare the other one off.

I highly recommend this book, if you're looking for something short, but sweet read!

Will is the captain of the cruise ship Dreamcatcher. Eddie is a dancer new to the ship.
I loved their first meeting. It was fun and flirty. I immediately liked both of these men and how they chose to get to know each other rather than jump into a relationship.
A great feel good story, I also think the cover is amazing!!

I may not have read very many MM books but this one certainly captured my heart. Will and Eddie are total opposites but that doesn't stop them from pursuing what they want most. If you are a lover of this genre then you will love this book.

Will, the captain of the MV Dreamcatcher cruise ship, meets dancer Eddie on board and both immediately feel an instant attraction. This is their story.

This new improved story captured my heart from the very beginning with the background of Eddie. I have to say, Eddie’s father is a wonderful character and I fell in love with his parenting, the same with his mother. The same with Will’s background, I could cheerfully have smacked the smugness from one particular character. The extension of Will’s journey in his career and his family story were a great addition showing us a deeper insight into him. Actually, both lead characters I believe, became more real and I felt like I knew them so much better. I especially enjoyed some crossovers with characters in this author’s other stories.

I really enjoyed the fact that they didn't rush headlong into anything straight away but wanted to really get to know each other, this is far more realistic. That's not to say they weren't sexually hot, they were! But the depth of feeling for each other meant so much more.

Eddie is such a fun, flamboyant character and totally loveable, you can't help but like him straight away. Will is the epitome of a cruise captain, class and elegance but he has a touch of vulnerability too. He also knows how to enjoy himself and let go which is good to see.

While this has such a lot of fun in it, there is a darker side of the story highlighting serious issues like bullying and prejudice. These are handled really well and realistically too.

Yes Captain is an easy to read story that will leave you feeling fantastic. I loved Dance With Me but can honestly say this is even better. I look forward to reading more in this series of books.

This book was a fun surprise. I was first told about it by the author when I posted a book request—in a Facebook book group—asking for books with a size difference between the main characters. I added bonus points if it bucked the stereotype of who fit what role in their sex life. This did indeed fit my request to the T. It also added a dose of swoon-worthy moments of tenderness.

When we first meet Will and Eddie, they are at very low points in their life. Then, throughout the rest of the book, we skip to different parts of their lives—up until they meet. I love how they became friends first. I enjoyed the progression and was happy when they took the next step. They were wonderful together, and sweet. Both men deserved happiness, so I was pleased when they reached their ultimate HEA.

I felt the way Ann Grech structured the story had a sense of uniqueness about it. I enjoyed it. I enjoyed learning about their past by experiencing it with them, instead of in conversation or internal dialogue. It kept me on my toes and gave me a broader personal of who these men were before and after they met.

This book is the second—well technically 1.5–book in the series, but can be read as a stand-alone. It was well written and full of great characters, minus a few... I definitely recommend it for a heartwarming read.

I really, really do not like the “narrative-type” of story telling. My god, there was paragraph after paragraph of narration. I began skipping (at the beginning) through it, wanting to get to some actual story. I love the “show” versus the tell. This was so much tell it was driving me crazy.

Then we have all the background of each MC. I was struggling to find out why we needed to read about them separately. When I read a romance, I want to see them together. I want to see their interaction.

OR, if you’re going to write their past, can it be interesting? Or relevant? This wasn’t either to me.

Then we have one of my dreaded pet peeves. I mean I just can’t stand it. A three-people relationship. It’s not my thing. Never has been my thing, never will be my thing. It bothers me so damn much that just a mere MENTION of it throws me off.

And yep, you guessed it: there was a mention of a woman in a relationship with two other guys. Like, all three of them were in a relationship. And that scene (even before the three-people showed up) felt incredibly pointless.

I stopped reading after that. I just couldn’t. I wasn’t going to waste my time on something like this.

I will not read more by this author.

The author knew how to hook the reader into being really invested in Will and Eddie's stories, because the book began with both of them at their most saddening, devastating points in their lives.

So, when Will and Eddie actually met, I was already in love with them and rooting for their happiness. Attraction ignited as soon as they saw each other, but insta-lust was only the beginning of their journey together. It became a battle of keeping their hands off one another and in the meantime they were given the chance to build on their emotional connection.

Beyond loving Will and Eddie, I found most of the secondary characters incredible. Their families were both delightful and the cruise ship's crew added to the story's entertaining level.

As a whole, this was a light, fun, absolutely smoking hot and intensely emotional book. A must read.

Yes, Captain was a phenomenal book written by Ann Grech, who is a brilliant author. When reading this book we are reminded it's ok to love who we love, no matter the gender.

When Eddie sees Will for the first time on the ship, he is struck with feelings, but he has a rule that he likes to follow—no dating staff members. Despite that, the more they get to know each other, the more he likes Eddie. Soon, Will finds himself breaking his rule.

This story was very well written, and will definitely open other readers' eyes on love. I could see myself being friends with both characters. This book was written with two different POV. The characters were very likeable. The storyline didn't drag at all, throughout the book. I highly enjoyed it.

I thought that the format for the beginning of the book was odd (going back 12 years, then 6 years, then 3, etc...) and not really necessary, but overall the story was cute and pretty low angst and fun with the cruise ship as their stomping grounds.

I also liked how even though the older MC was physically bigger and was the captain of the ship, there were no specific roles involved (even the other MC, Eddie, was a little surprised) which was refreshing.

I liked this enough that I'll look up some other books by the same author to give them a go.

I wanted to read and review a book that takes place on a cruise ship, and even better, one about the captain. So when the opportunity came to read and review Yes, Captain by Ann Grech, I signed up for the chance.

First off, the two main characters are very likeable. Will is an openly gay man who’s been burned by a past relationship. He also has a strict rule of never dating anyone on board his ship—and that includes the staff.

While the story took a while to get going, especially with it starting so far back to Eddie's school days and the time where Will's marriage failed, the connection between the two men was undeniable. I enjoyed the building of their friendship, which Will thought wouldn't lead anywhere because of his hard and fast rule not to date staff. But something about Eddie pulls him in, and their developing relationship was great to see. The ending was a bit cheesy, but all in all, a good story!!

I really enjoyed this story! I loved the slower progression from friends to lovers. I really liked how they became friends first instead of jumping into the deep end of love. Will and Eddie had an instant attraction, but Will has a hard rule that he doesn’t date staff. I really like how we got Will’s family background, I thought it made him more complex, actually both characters. Highly recommend. I’m voluntarily reviewing from an advanced copy that I received.
