Six From WCHA Earn All-American Status

Three WCHA Players Honored on each First and Second All-America Teams by CCM/AHCA

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. – For their excellence on the ice this season, the Western Collegiate Hockey Association had six student-athletes recognized as 2022-23 Women’s University Division Ice Hockey All-Americans by the American Hockey Coaches Association.

The six WCHA Players are among 12 of the nation’s best to reach All-American status. Four of the WCHA’s six honorees are repeat All-Americans as Ohio State’s Sophie Jaques and Minnesota’s Taylor Heise are now two-time First Team All-Americans for 2022 and 2023. Minnesota Duluth’s Ashton Bell is joined by Minnesota’s Grace Zumwinkle, as each were Second Team selections in 2021, now with Bell reaching First Team in 2023 and Zumwinkle repeating her Second Team honor for 2023. Earning their first All-America awards is Ohio State’s Jenn Gardiner and Wisconsin’s Caroline Harvey, while Harvey is the only freshman to earn All-American recognition this season.

The WCHA’s six honorees surpass the five of the 2022 campaign and are the most since landing eight on the All-American teams back in 2017.

Bell, Jaques, Heise, Gardiner, and Zumwinkle were all honored as First Team All-WCHA this season, while Harvey was named Second Team All-WCHA and WCHA Rookie of the Year. Four of the WCHA’s All-Americans in Jaques, Heise, Gardiner, and Zumwinkle were named as Patty Kazmaier Memorial Award Top-10 Finalists earlier this month, while Jaques advanced as a two-time Top-3 Finalist.

Ohio State’s Jaques and Gardiner, Minnesota’s Heise and Zumwinkle, and Wisconsin’s Harvey are all set to compete for a national championship at this weekend’s 2023 Frozen Four in Duluth, Minn.
